Sharks snub Solly again
8 Feb 2006
Springbok flank Solly Tyibilika still can’t find a way into the Sharks match 22.
Coach Dick Muir has gone with veteran loose forward Warren Britz at No 6 and named Samoan import Daniel Farani on the bench for Saturday’s match against the Chiefs in Durban. It is a selection that will no doubt irk Bok coach Jake White who has spent the last two years trying to convince the Sharks that Tyibilika is good enough to play in the Vodacom Super 14.
Tyibilika earlier in the week told keo.co.za that he needed regular game time ahead of the World Cup and was in the best form of his life. In Bok conditioning tests held over the last year, Tyibilika was always the fittest loose forward in the squad.
While Muir’s decision to play Britz and AJ Venter on the flanks is understandable, he will have a hard time defending the selection of a foreigner ahead of a black Bok.
However, Britz’s selection is subject to a fitness test after he obtained a mild strain at training on Tuesday evening, when he was pulled from training as a precautionary measure.
Should he be unable to play, his position will be taken by Jacques Botes with Farani moving to eighthman, and Tyibilika taking his place on the bench.
Britz’s inclusion should be finalised at training on Wednesday evening.
Sharks team to play Chiefs:
15. JP Pietersen
14. Dusty Noble
13. Gcobani Bobo
12. Andries Strauss
11. Henno Mentz
10. Percy Montgomery
9. Ruan Pienaar
8. Jacques Botes
7. AJ Venter (c)
6. Warren Britz
5. Johann Muller
4. Johan Ackermann
3. Brendon Botha
2. Skipper Badenhorst
1. Heinke van der Merwe
Reserves:
16. Jody Jenneker
17. Brent Moyle
18. Albert van den Berg
19. Daniel Farani
20. Sandile Nxumalo
21. Bradley Barritt
22. Brent Russell

Simon he was the fittest out of only nine players who were actually fit enough to get to the testing.
8 Feb 2006, 14:14 pm
Dusty Noble, great name. Could be an Aussie
8 Feb 2006, 14:14 pm
Maybe they chose him for the “A-side”?
8 Feb 2006, 14:15 pm
Dont worry sol rest up the sharks will get relegated then u can return to ur roots and play for the spears.
8 Feb 2006, 14:15 pm
Is Dusty Noble family of 80′s Natal wing Christie Noble?
Robd? Sharks fans?
So here my one selection in Fantasy league is getting a run…. good good looking good.
8 Feb 2006, 14:15 pm
DavidSp
He was the fittest at the start of last season too when they tested all the boks.
8 Feb 2006, 14:16 pm
sharks will get relegated if they dont stop making stupid selections.Jacques Botes? Who the hell is that?
8 Feb 2006, 14:16 pm
A “Black” bok nogal! I just saw him as a BOk. Interesting Simon, stirring the pot hey?
8 Feb 2006, 14:17 pm
Only the Sharks will keep the 2nd choice Bok fetcher on the bench… LMAO. But then again, so too did WP with Shimmie. What next?
8 Feb 2006, 14:17 pm
Would love to see the sharks play beter this year. They got some great names in there team. Bobo will score a few tries this year. Venter will also stand out for the sharks if he stays injury free Good luck Sharks
8 Feb 2006, 14:17 pm
Is Dusty Noble family of 80’s Natal wing Christie Noble?
Dont think so i believe he is the son of some former wp or boland player and he is the cousin of JP Pietersen.
8 Feb 2006, 14:22 pm
Christie is Dusty’s uncle
8 Feb 2006, 14:25 pm
DavidSp, I think he is family.
Wpw, Botes played 8 for the Sharks the whole of last year. He is very good.
8 Feb 2006, 14:32 pm
so x-fire, who was bad last yr? I mean the sharks did end last didnt they? If he was so good, who was bad. I would say the 10 and centres. Maybe the tight 5 too?
8 Feb 2006, 14:37 pm
solly should just leave the sharks, coz quite clearly **** muir is no fan. im sure the cheetahs, or even the stormers could do with someone of this mans calibre
8 Feb 2006, 14:38 pm
Botes is ok – good skills and mobility but he’s a bit short of the mark physically imo. no need to get too excited about solly being out – it’s a long tourney and he’ll make his mark.
anyone seen much of strauss at 12? how good is he?
8 Feb 2006, 14:39 pm
wpw, yes, the centers were a problem, and it looks like might be again this year (hope not). In general, the whole team lacked basic ball handling skills, defence and being able to retain posession. The reason why I said that about Botes is that he is the only forward (too my knowlege) that really stood out last year.
8 Feb 2006, 14:41 pm
mickeyj,
I only saw Strauss at Sun City. He did look quite solid at 12.
8 Feb 2006, 14:52 pm
Simon
Are you a racist?? By the sound of things you are??
8 Feb 2006, 14:53 pm
**** Muir is his own biggest fan, He doesn’t give a damn about anyone else.
What i want to know is why the hell is he not playing bismarck?
Skipper is an idoit. And Jody jenneker need alot of dissipline, he’s a hot head.
Don’t worry Mr. T, i still love ya!
8 Feb 2006, 14:54 pm
Solly is wasting his time at the Sharks.
8 Feb 2006, 14:58 pm
Warren Britz has one Bok cap – given to him by Straueli (when Krige was injured) just after Straueli joined the Boks from the Sharks. Then dropped him. Britz then fled to Newcastle in UK, and they opted not to renew his contract – I see a trend here. Britz was fortunate in that he played with good players in the Sharks backrow (Teichman, Venter). This decision baffles me – it’s not very forward-looking at all.
8 Feb 2006, 14:58 pm
Agree … think he sould look at a move to the cheetas … him in tandum with Jaun could be exiting …
8 Feb 2006, 15:02 pm
Perhaps his minor injury is keeping him out.
Keep an eye on Brendon Botha. A possible future Bok.
8 Feb 2006, 15:05 pm
No wonder the Sharks are so kuk – they do this all the time, wrong selections… **** Muir’s first name says it ALL…
8 Feb 2006, 15:05 pm
jondood
i think you should just wait atleast 6 weeks before you call someone a bok!!!
8 Feb 2006, 15:14 pm
I reckon Boibo could fulfil the wing role pretty well. His distribution skills are not all that good, , but he is big and strong. We don’t have big strong Ray Mordt style wings playing at the moment for us. Yes fast and agile, but we don’t have buldozers in the mould of Ray Mordt and Niel Burger. I sincerely believe that moving Bobo to wing would do his career a hell of a lot of good.
8 Feb 2006, 15:14 pm
Amazing how Daniel Farani, another capped international is also left on the bench.
8 Feb 2006, 15:16 pm
hobo
“i think you should just wait atleast 6 weeks before you call someone a bok!!!”
Never stopped quota selections, innit?
8 Feb 2006, 15:16 pm
hobo – if you actually watched any rugby at all, you would know that jondood is on the money when it comes to BJ Botha. Kees Meeuws rates him as the toughest oke he’s ever scrummed against.
Have any of you so-called experts actually watched a game that Warren Britz has played in the last two seasons?
8 Feb 2006, 15:17 pm
Frankly, I am not so sure Solly T would make the Western Farce’s bench.
8 Feb 2006, 15:18 pm
I think Bismarck is holding an injury cause he has got to be better than “scoringa try on the 5m line” Skipper. BJ Botha is slowly becoming of the best tightheads in the country. I also believe in the horses for courses strategy and I don’t think Solly’s style of play suits this match.
8 Feb 2006, 15:19 pm
Solly’s problem is his defence , he is to small to put a guy back.
8 Feb 2006, 15:19 pm
robdylan
Have you seen him play super 14??? I dont think so….
8 Feb 2006, 15:20 pm
I reckon that Farani should actually start at 8, with Botes on the bench. We need a quick loosie to come on in the 2nd half. Bash first, then run.
8 Feb 2006, 15:22 pm
hobo, you tonsil. Nobody has ever played Super 14.
What sort of idiot are you?
8 Feb 2006, 15:24 pm
You go Rob D, good one, sounds funny…
8 Feb 2006, 15:24 pm
roddylan
No bigger then you for calling him a bok?? **** the guy has just started his career and as soon as he moves to Cape Town he will be KAk again….
8 Feb 2006, 15:26 pm
I think we will only really know where we stand on after this weekend. Come monday morning this site is gonna be full of humble pie and I told you so’s…
8 Feb 2006, 15:27 pm
hobo, BJ has not just started his career…
8 Feb 2006, 15:28 pm
What a disgrace. Bring on the quotas. The poor man has not played a poor game for years but is getting abused year after year. Britz is a good player but he seemed to have lost his edge when he came back from Quins
BJ is a proper prop wasted in Durban. Jake can do a lot worse than him…
Watch out for Strauss he has lots of potential…
8 Feb 2006, 15:29 pm
There is still 12 weeks to go.
He will get enough game time.
Same as with the bulls with Kuun and the other loosies.
8 Feb 2006, 15:29 pm
x-fire
In MY EYE`S HIS HAS….
8 Feb 2006, 15:30 pm
RobD – what do make of a Solly not included? I think it’s a f&*$ up and the Sharks will not progress if they keep on making the wrong decisions… I actually feel pissed off and feel sorry for the loyal Sharks fans like yourself…
8 Feb 2006, 15:32 pm
well, hobo, open your eyes then and watch the tele sometime…
8 Feb 2006, 15:33 pm
Hobo,
You sure do make a lot of friends!
Change your blue and white and come join us in the winners circle in Orange buddy.
8 Feb 2006, 15:35 pm
ag my liewe fok.
Can you guys not note that there was a minor strain mentioned.
Perhaps that is why he is not included.
Like Stan said there is still a whole season left and I am very positive that Tibby the Tiger will get a lot of game time.
Have faith my friends.
8 Feb 2006, 15:36 pm
BoksForever
More like blue, white and brown. Cause they are so KAK.
8 Feb 2006, 15:36 pm
hobo – you are a tosser. x – I think this one deserves to be ignored.
nielsm – Britzie played for Newcastle Falcons
8 Feb 2006, 15:38 pm
RODDYLAN
You are just like all the bulls fans right?? Maak die bulle almal rokke….
8 Feb 2006, 15:39 pm
bigg – I certainly don’t believe that picking Britz ahead of Solly weakens the team. For one thing, Britz’s defence is 100% better than Solly’s, which is comforting when he’s playing against Lauaki the freak.
Solly will get his chance – no way Britz is going to play all 13 games!
8 Feb 2006, 15:43 pm
hobo
You KWV and munkiboi must be friends.
***** the whole lot of you.
8 Feb 2006, 15:46 pm
hobo – not quite. We’re talking about a single player here and the consensus among those who actually know something (not you, in other words) is that BJ is one of the most underrated players in the country.
8 Feb 2006, 15:47 pm
rob, you mean all 15 games? 13 games plus 1 semi and one final?
8 Feb 2006, 15:47 pm
RobD yes I agree about Britz but **** could play him on the other flank… I dont know, ity does not hurt to have to specialized fetchers playing two different roles. At least put him on the bench… Sorry Rob D but **** has got this wrong first round… Solly needs game time…
8 Feb 2006, 15:48 pm
X- Fire… you mean the Stormers, yes we will play 15 games…
8 Feb 2006, 15:51 pm
bigg
comical
lol
8 Feb 2006, 15:52 pm
bigg, ja the stormers will play 15 games including the CC…
8 Feb 2006, 15:53 pm
x – I’m definitely buying you a beer on Sunday for that one!
bigg – I’m tempted to agree with you. A combination of Solly and Britz with a hard guy like AJ would probably work. I’d probably go with that over the Britz/Botes combo. I’d still prefer two big guys (AJ and Farani or maybe an in-form Breedt) with a specialised fetcher. In my opinion, the pecking order is clearly Britz, then Solly. Botes to me is a good impact player. Great skills and vision, but he’s too small for 8 and hasn’t mastered 6.
8 Feb 2006, 15:53 pm
Get a wake up call — stop being emotional, Solly, was never teh best fetcher after SCHALK & if you are honest you will accept this. We know why Solly was picked so stop beating around the bush.
He has deficiencies in his play which the “staff” have told him about & he has to work on this. The Sharks are trying to stay out of the “RED ZONE” SO WHY NOT PLAY WHAT **** DEEMS HIS STRONGEST TEAM.
PLEASE, guys, see the picture.
8 Feb 2006, 15:57 pm
I think that Britz at 7 and Solly at 6 will work, but not not againts the Chiefs. The Chiefs are going to be really physical, especially their loosies. Maybe in another game.
8 Feb 2006, 15:58 pm
RobD – well I hope for the Sharks fans that all goes well… good Luck and I will be rooting for the Sharks believe it or not… By that I should be pissed coz we would have watched the Stormers game, watching at Peddlars on the bend – a great pub in Cape Town…
8 Feb 2006, 16:03 pm
agreed, x. I still would’ve gone with Farani or Breedt ahead of Botes for this game, though.
8 Feb 2006, 16:04 pm
bigg – last time I was at peddlars they had to carry me out! Awesome spot. That and Forries are my two favourite spots to watch rugger in Cape Town
8 Feb 2006, 16:07 pm
As a Sharks fan i’m a bit pissed about this – not that Britz got the nod ahead of Solly, but that Solly didn’t even make the natch 22.
Come home boys Solly @6; Gerber @ 7 and Watson @ 8 and captain for the Spears next year.
8 Feb 2006, 16:08 pm
robd,
Have to agree – BJ Botha has been handing most looseheads’ asses to them on a plate. He’s one helluva scrummager.
Off the topic, I hope the Sharks come good this year. Its sad to see the team that has been the flagbearing SA franchise struggle so much.
8 Feb 2006, 16:08 pm
robd when last have you been at kingspark?
8 Feb 2006, 16:12 pm
robd.
Where is Nico Breedt?
8 Feb 2006, 16:12 pm
Geez Mountain Goats …
A New 70 000 capacity stadium …
You must be so excited , now you’s can hold The 3N Final …
The Cape Carnival …
and the *** Pride march on the same day in the same venue …
Moerse lekker vir julle !
8 Feb 2006, 16:14 pm
Yeah Botes is proabably a better super sub with Farani at 8. But who knows maybe when Farani does come on we could get the Chiefs worried…. Not Solly’s game this one.
8 Feb 2006, 16:14 pm
So the question is asked – who are the top 4 loosies at the Sharks? For me, AJ is definitely no 1 and would be part of any combination. I pick Britz at no 2.
nos 3&4 need to be a combination of a big guy and a little guy – so you can’t really have Botes and Solly filling in those places. You need one of them with a guy like Farani, Breedt or Immelman in the other spot.
Now we all know that **** has a soft spot for Botes and to be fair, the guy has better ball skills and vision than Solly T does. Solly has a lot of pace, fitness and heart, but Britz and Botes have those attributes too, plus something extra.
8 Feb 2006, 16:14 pm
Murp,Dawn is gonna kak you out for targeting ****.
8 Feb 2006, 16:14 pm
i have said it before i will say it again super 12/14 is there to bridge the gap between currie cup and test match rugby it is another step in grooming our players into world beaters we should invest in our own players. i don’t mind bringing experienced foreigners in to pass on knowledge and experience, but who is this samoan chap?
the only conclusion that can be reached here is that muir would rather develop samoan rugby than south african rugby. solly is a test match quality player, why is it that only jake white seems to acknowledge this fact? perhaps we should send our coaches on a life skills course with an emphasis on racial equality.
continued decisions like this will only damage sa rugby and invariably the sharks will get relegated.
8 Feb 2006, 16:15 pm
RobD – well come this saturday. We will be sitting at the table next to the doors leading to the beer garden… Pull in!!??
8 Feb 2006, 16:15 pm
Kevin W – we agree on something for a change… With you on Solly…
8 Feb 2006, 16:16 pm
ktb – I think it’s fair to say Solly has been judged (by the muppits supporting him) on his Bok performances – and they have not been bad. One game against the Argies, when J Cronje did nothing and put a tremendous workload on Smith & Solly was his worst show.
8 Feb 2006, 16:16 pm
bliksem – not since the tri-nations test in 02. KSA – he’s in the squad. Just hasn’t been selected for this one.
8 Feb 2006, 16:17 pm
My predictions for Saturday at Kings Park.
Sharks to lose.
Lots of pissed chicks at One Stop.
bigg where are you watching the game?
8 Feb 2006, 16:18 pm
Im going down tomorrow night, obviously not for the game especially.Gonna be a good jol I reckon should be a couple of people with false hope at the start of the season pitching up.
8 Feb 2006, 16:18 pm
Bliksem – i came to work this morning in a real bad mood… I read your post re Mac hitting rock bottom and writing for Keo is rock bottom…**** that was funny… LOL You made my day and I am still laughing about it… So you recon Simon is a kuk journalist??
8 Feb 2006, 16:21 pm
Bliksem – I am watching the rugby at Peddlars on Saturday. I go there all the time and you?
8 Feb 2006, 16:21 pm
Simon is.He doesnt realise that he is busy creating his future career wise.He is a very shortsighted young man,a very short man as well.i dont think keo hires people that are taller than him. Then he drags my mother into the whiole thing.Simon, both my parents were murdered 2 years ago so at the next Muppit evening in Jhb me and you are going to have a serious ****** talk.
8 Feb 2006, 16:22 pm
I think you all in for a surprise this weekend. Hurricanes, Brumbies, Cheetahs, Crusaders, Waratahs, Cats and Sharks. Looking forward to the One Stop chicks though : )
8 Feb 2006, 16:22 pm
where is peddlers?I am watching the game at Kingspark this weekend from the Quins box,and getting plastered.
8 Feb 2006, 16:23 pm
Fawlty are you going to one stop?
8 Feb 2006, 16:23 pm
Bulls – Cheetahs game on Sky Sports 3 at 5pm for us UK dwellers on Friday.
Sharks – Chiefs on at 6pm on Sky Sports 2 on Saturday.
Stormers – Waratahs on next Saturday.
8 Feb 2006, 16:24 pm
bigg – would love to, but I live in Jozi.
Dee Dah, you plonker, you’re missing the fact that Farani and Solly play completely different roles in the loose trio. It’s pointless trying to compare them to one another.
BTW – the relegation debacle makes it each man for himself. The Sharks (and any other SA team for that matter) must play whatever players they see fit to ensure them of suceess. SARU has created this fuckup, so they must live with the consequences.
8 Feb 2006, 16:29 pm
cheers guys I’m off like a jewish foreskin
8 Feb 2006, 16:31 pm
Afternoon boys
long time no see.
8 Feb 2006, 16:31 pm
Bliksem Fok – you make me laugh… Peddlars is in Cape Town Constantia, best place to watch rugga…
8 Feb 2006, 16:31 pm
Looks like I am going to the game now so I will definitely be breazing through One Stop for one drink…..ok maybe 1 drink 2 many
8 Feb 2006, 16:31 pm

So why is Solly not in ****’s squad?
As for my *** life… healthy at present – and it will stay that way after the wedding. with or without her… (joke)
8 Feb 2006, 16:44 pm
rob – just a shared mortgage and a cat cost me my sexlife. and she’s talking kids – engagement hasn’t even come up as a topic yet.
8 Feb 2006, 16:44 pm
Had supper at Die strandloper one evening, R140 bucks pp for a 9 course meal, jeepers I’ll go back any time. Stayed in Paternoster, not a shabby neck of the woods.
8 Feb 2006, 16:46 pm
Eish
8 Feb 2006, 16:46 pm
Next time you are there – try “Die Boesmanlandplaaskombuis”. I think they are better than the Strandloper. Bit cheaper, but atmosphere is unbelievable. they start you off with a Vaaljapie when you enter…
It’s also in Langebaan – just passed the Mykonos turnoff.
8 Feb 2006, 16:47 pm
Veltie you know why the ladies smile when they walk down the isle?
8 Feb 2006, 16:47 pm
Heard that one, yup.
8 Feb 2006, 16:48 pm
So gentlemen
What are the predictions for the Stormers game on Sat?
8 Feb 2006, 16:50 pm
I’ve heard about it, sounds awesome. I’m not too sure that I will get back to the west coast very soon again, lady love has a son, which I am proud to say, is just about mine as well, and there is not too much for laaities to do.
It’ll bore him shitless!
8 Feb 2006, 16:50 pm
Veltie – your right hand will become your best friend!
8 Feb 2006, 16:50 pm
I predict a nervous afternoon running between a Six Nations game and internet commentory on RSG.
Stormers – just, possibly by 2 in a poor game.
8 Feb 2006, 16:50 pm
Veltie – Cats to win by 2
8 Feb 2006, 16:51 pm
Veltie I’ve got the Cats by 5, Bulls by 7, Chiefs by 10 (sorry rob), Crusaders by 10, Blues by 10, Brumbies by 15 and Waratahs by 20.
8 Feb 2006, 16:51 pm
RC
what do you mean man? There are lots of stuff for the laaities to do. Diving, fishing, dunesurfing, quadbiking, swimming.
But when you are there again – try it out. worth every cent.
8 Feb 2006, 16:51 pm
Also check out Strand Kombuis in Yezerfontein….pretty sweet
8 Feb 2006, 16:53 pm
And old IG pops up like pimple, howzit boet?
8 Feb 2006, 16:55 pm
RobD
LMAO – but I’m left-handed. Honest
Ja, I’ve got to agree with the predictions. I don’t have too much faith in my moutain goats. The backline looks lekker. I havn’t seen this new winger of ours – not Nokwe, the other one – but I hear he is blitsvinnig.
8 Feb 2006, 16:55 pm
That’s ok, RC. Hope you’re wrong. You coming on Sunday?
8 Feb 2006, 16:56 pm

8 Feb 2006, 17:07 pm
SHOT Ig, you’re on. Beer it is then. Have to run chaps keep well!

We should change it to: Moer die Aussies net met stokke.

Ig – Do you know if its possible to log on to a server in the States from Europe, and access sites from the other server? If this is possible, perhaps the rest of us could also take advantage of the kuduclub option to see all the games.

with floors getting game time at freestate, could he eclipse Solly as SA’s no 2 no 6? well, 3rd choice really. Jake would play Big Joe there before Solly in a big test match.

So **** has lost the plot and the Super 14 hasn’t even started yet. Crazy bugger. If this carries on the Sharks will be stuck at the bottom of the log and relegated at the end of the Super 14. No Springbok captain in next years Super 14.
8 Feb 2006, 19:15 pm
**** Muir is a conservative ********. For this the sharks must go down and Solly must jump ship before they do. Solly is a waste of a guy with one of the best attitudes towards the game.
Death to the Sharks!

plus wats so great about warren britz????
8 Feb 2006, 20:26 pm
Simon,
Why when Brent Russell is dropprd there’s no protest from your side
Muir only became a vilain when dear Solly is dropped, why?
Solly was subbed at half time against Wales and dropped altogether against France by JW for being ineffective at the breakdown, it only happened 3 months ago.
8 Feb 2006, 21:13 pm
Shame, Solly is such a nice guy … No, really. His always the first at every ******* breakdown point, so that he can cheer on the guys who can fight for the ball on the ground … WTF … Who needs cheerleaders, when you have Solly, because **** knows what else he is suppose to do on the field. Sorry guys, he just ain’t strong and BIG enough to be a good forward. So unless you wanna irritate the opposition into submission, I suggest we let Solly be.

could be a hellse side this sharks side, i like ackerman, muller, BJ and AJ all in the same side. Mofo what a pack, throw John Smit and Daniel Farani in the mix and that pack is going to steamroll many a team.

Veltie,
What does Anton Leonard do after leading the bulls to their 4th successive Currie Cup title?
He turns off the playstation and goes to bed.
The ‘Staters loved me, the Bulls wanted to hang me.
