Sharks snub Solly again

Springbok flank Solly Tyibilika still can’t find a way into the Sharks match 22.

Coach Dick Muir has gone with veteran loose forward Warren Britz at No 6 and named Samoan import Daniel Farani on the bench for Saturday’s match against the Chiefs in Durban. It is a selection that will no doubt irk Bok coach Jake White who has spent the last two years trying to convince the Sharks that Tyibilika is good enough to play in the Vodacom Super 14.

Tyibilika earlier in the week told keo.co.za that he needed regular game time ahead of the World Cup and was in the best form of his life. In Bok conditioning tests held over the last year, Tyibilika was always the fittest loose forward in the squad.

While Muir’s decision to play Britz and AJ Venter on the flanks is understandable, he will have a hard time defending the selection of a foreigner ahead of a black Bok.

However, Britz’s selection is subject to a fitness test after he obtained a mild strain at training on Tuesday evening, when he was pulled from training as a precautionary measure.

Should he be unable to play, his position will be taken by Jacques Botes with Farani moving to eighthman, and Tyibilika taking his place on the bench.

Britz’s inclusion should be finalised at training on Wednesday evening.

Sharks team to play Chiefs:

7. AJ Venter (c)
6. Warren Britz
5. Johann Muller
4. Johan Ackermann
3. Brendon Botha
2. Skipper Badenhorst
1. Heinke van der Merwe

16. Jody Jenneker
17. Brent Moyle
18. Albert van den Berg
19. Daniel Farani
20. Sandile Nxumalo

Is Dusty Noble family of 80′s Natal wing Christie Noble?

    Robd? Sharks fans?

He was the fittest at the start of last season too when they tested all the boks.

  • 8.RedCard: Reply to this comment

A “Black” bok nogal! I just saw him as a BOk. Interesting Simon, stirring the pot hey?

  • 9.wpw: Reply to this comment

Only the Sharks will keep the 2nd choice Bok fetcher on the bench… LMAO. But then again, so too did WP with Shimmie. What next?

Would love to see the sharks play beter this year. They got some great names in there team. Bobo will score a few tries this year. Venter will also stand out for the sharks if he stays injury free Good luck Sharks

Dont think so i believe he is the son of some former wp or boland player and he is the cousin of JP Pietersen.

  • 12.Simon: Reply to this comment

    Christie is Dusty’s uncle

  • 13.x-fire: Reply to this comment

DavidSp, I think he is family.

Wpw, Botes played 8 for the Sharks the whole of last year. He is very good.

  • 14.wpw: Reply to this comment

so x-fire, who was bad last yr? I mean the sharks did end last didnt they? If he was so good, who was bad. I would say the 10 and centres. Maybe the tight 5 too?

  • 15.boooi: Reply to this comment

solly should just leave the sharks, coz quite clearly **** muir is no fan. im sure the cheetahs, or even the stormers could do with someone of this mans calibre

  • 16.mickeyj: Reply to this comment

Botes is ok – good skills and mobility but he’s a bit short of the mark physically imo. no need to get too excited about solly being out – it’s a long tourney and he’ll make his mark.

anyone seen much of strauss at 12? how good is he?

  • 17.x-fire: Reply to this comment

wpw, yes, the centers were a problem, and it looks like might be again this year (hope not). In general, the whole team lacked basic ball handling skills, defence and being able to retain posession. The reason why I said that about Botes is that he is the only forward (too my knowlege) that really stood out last year.

  • 18.x-fire: Reply to this comment

    mickeyj,

I only saw Strauss at Sun City. He did look quite solid at 12.

**** Muir is his own biggest fan, He doesn’t give a damn about anyone else.

What i want to know is why the hell is he not playing bismarck?

Skipper is an idoit. And Jody jenneker need alot of dissipline, he’s a hot head.

Don’t worry Mr. T, i still love ya!

Solly is wasting his time at the Sharks.

Warren Britz has one Bok cap – given to him by Straueli (when Krige was injured) just after Straueli joined the Boks from the Sharks. Then dropped him. Britz then fled to Newcastle in UK, and they opted not to renew his contract – I see a trend here. Britz was fortunate in that he played with good players in the Sharks backrow (Teichman, Venter). This decision baffles me – it’s not very forward-looking at all.

Agree … think he sould look at a move to the cheetas … him in tandum with Jaun could be exiting …

  • 24.jondood: Reply to this comment

Perhaps his minor injury is keeping him out.

Keep an eye on Brendon Botha. A possible future Bok.

  • 25.bigg: Reply to this comment

No wonder the Sharks are so kuk – they do this all the time, wrong selections… **** Muir’s first name says it ALL…

  • 26.hobo: Reply to this comment

    jondood

i think you should just wait atleast 6 weeks before you call someone a bok!!!

  • 27.DavidSp: Reply to this comment

I reckon Boibo could fulfil the wing role pretty well. His distribution skills are not all that good, , but he is big and strong. We don’t have big strong Ray Mordt style wings playing at the moment for us. Yes fast and agile, but we don’t have buldozers in the mould of Ray Mordt and Niel Burger. I sincerely believe that moving Bobo to wing would do his career a hell of a lot of good.

  • 28.DavidSp: Reply to this comment

Amazing how Daniel Farani, another capped international is also left on the bench.

“i think you should just wait atleast 6 weeks before you call someone a bok!!!”

    Never stopped quota selections, innit?

  • 30.robdylan: Reply to this comment

hobo – if you actually watched any rugby at all, you would know that jondood is on the money when it comes to BJ Botha. Kees Meeuws rates him as the toughest oke he’s ever scrummed against.

Have any of you so-called experts actually watched a game that Warren Britz has played in the last two seasons?

  • 31.3rdday: Reply to this comment

Frankly, I am not so sure Solly T would make the Western Farce’s bench.

  • 32.Fawlty: Reply to this comment

I think Bismarck is holding an injury cause he has got to be better than “scoringa try on the 5m line” Skipper. BJ Botha is slowly becoming of the best tightheads in the country. I also believe in the horses for courses strategy and I don’t think Solly’s style of play suits this match.

  • 33.Narnia: Reply to this comment

Solly’s problem is his defence , he is to small to put a guy back.

  • 34.hobo: Reply to this comment

    robdylan

Have you seen him play super 14??? I dont think so….

  • 35.robdylan: Reply to this comment

I reckon that Farani should actually start at 8, with Botes on the bench. We need a quick loosie to come on in the 2nd half. Bash first, then run.

  • 36.robdylan: Reply to this comment

hobo, you tonsil. Nobody has ever played Super 14.
What sort of idiot are you?

  • 37.Charlie: Reply to this comment

You go Rob D, good one, sounds funny…

No bigger then you for calling him a bok?? **** the guy has just started his career and as soon as he moves to Cape Town he will be KAk again….

  • 39.Fawlty: Reply to this comment

I think we will only really know where we stand on after this weekend. Come monday morning this site is gonna be full of humble pie and I told you so’s…

  • 40.x-fire: Reply to this comment

hobo, BJ has not just started his career…

  • 41.nielsm: Reply to this comment

What a disgrace. Bring on the quotas. The poor man has not played a poor game for years but is getting abused year after year. Britz is a good player but he seemed to have lost his edge when he came back from Quins
BJ is a proper prop wasted in Durban. Jake can do a lot worse than him…

Watch out for Strauss he has lots of potential…

  • 42.Stan: Reply to this comment

There is still 12 weeks to go.
He will get enough game time.
Same as with the bulls with Kuun and the other loosies.

    In MY EYE`S HIS HAS….

  • 44.bigg: Reply to this comment

RobD – what do make of a Solly not included? I think it’s a f&*$ up and the Sharks will not progress if they keep on making the wrong decisions… I actually feel pissed off and feel sorry for the loyal Sharks fans like yourself…
