The Cats have been boosted by news that Conrad Jantjes’ achilles injury is responding to treatment and will not require surgery.
Coach Frans Ludeke told keo.co.za last week that Jantjes had a week to respond to conventional treatment, otherwise surgery would be the only option.
To his reflief, Jantjes has progressed well, and will start running again this afternoon in a bid to regain full fitness in time to face the Stormers in Johannesburg, the opening fixture of the Super 14.
“The past week has made a big difference,” Jantjes told keo.co.za. “I’m a bit scared of an op, so I’ve favoured intensive rehabilitation and thankfully it’s working. I’m starting running today, and depending how it goes, I’ll aim to be back to full training by Monday. That’s D-Day if I want to play the first game.
“At this stage I’m confident I’ll be fit to play.”
Ludeke confirmed Jantjes’ optimism.
“I’m very positive Conny will be fine for the Stormers. He’s reacting to treatment and it’s obviously a big relief to us that we’re not losing him for any substantial period.”
