Maxwell calls it quits
7 Mar 2006
All Blacks and former Crusaders lock Norm Maxwell has quit rugby at the age of 30.
Maxwell has been troubled by injury in the last two years and despite taking a year off from Super rugby, his body did not respond to the physical demands of international rugby.
He was expected to play out his career in Japan, but he has decided enough is enough after just a few months in Japan.
“It gets a lot harder when you can’t give as much as you want to, so it’s time to give up,” said the 36-test veteran and winner of four Super 12 titles with the Crusaders. “All of it was an awesome experience. The Test matches are always going to be stand out in the mind.”

Have your say
