Ludeke to direct Lions

Frans Ludeke will be the Lions Director of Rugby in the Currie Cup and will stay on as head coach in the 2007 Super 14.

SA under 19 coach Eugene Eloff will be the Lions head coach, having worked as Ludeke’s assistant for the last five years. Any talk of Ludeke being axed will go nowhere because the union cannot afford to can the coach and there isn’t a performance-related clause in his contract. He is in for the next five years at R1.2 million a year.

Suparugby website reported that Loffie would be given the coaching duties to allow Ludeke breathing space after the disasters of the Super 14, in which the Cats have won just two matches and are placed 13th out of 14th with just one match to play.

The Cats play the Cheetahs in the final match.

Ludeke is a disgrace and should have done a Snyman a long time ago.

Ludeke will do a better job then Mallett. Look at Straueli he is doing an excellent job at the Sharks. Similar things were said about him when he was appointed in Durban. Shame Keo, why you always trying to fry people who don’t have you on their payroll. I bet you would like a slice of that R1,2 million a year.

Caveman Straueli didn’t do anything for the Sharks, Muir and Campo should be applauded for their efforts instead.

  • 8.capeflatsboy: Reply to this comment

Read this past weekends Sunday Times and you will see who pulls the strings at the sharks. Muir did not even know about the signing of Lensing. What did Mallett give the Stormers? Huia Edmonds. What a joke.

everybody would like a slice of 1.2 million, for doing nothing. nice guy but bad coach. would like to see his record of winning games printed. it is actually a shame that young coaches have to coach overseas because the same guys keep coaching in sa with hardly any success.

Go loffie GO!! At least you have two world cup wins and one third place under the belt before team Van Rooyen jeopordised your efforts by changing the team in the beginning of the year.Do not be surprised if the lions take the cup this year. Luckily for Loffie no Bok will be playing and he can therefore concentrate on players that will give 100%. He also has the right Mental make up. and who knows when Jake bow out before next year’s world cup, Loffie should be the new BOK coach. ludeke should go

Ou Snakes & Ladders. Loffie will do a good job. He will sign a lot of his ex youngsters. I’m looking forward to seeing him re-uniting Delport & Dollie next season.

Ok, your team is 2nd last, you cannot coach, and you get a promotion, hmm, their must be life on Mars after all.

How the hell did they sign up a coach like Frans Ludicrous, or anyone for that matter, WITHOUT a performance clause in the contract? Did someone have a brain explosion or does SA rugby always do this sort of stupid thing?

  • 14.reds: Reply to this comment

It will be very difficult for Loffie to sign new guys without money? Remember this is a professional game and players must get paid. Hope the Lions have some money to buy a few new players as most of them are useless at the moment!!

  • 15.bliksem: Reply to this comment

This is the ******* problem in SA Rugby. All ************* boetie boetie. Why wasnt the post advertised so that top class coaches, even overseas ones apply.Yes i am upset.

  • 16.reds: Reply to this comment

Bliksem…no money to advertise and no money to pay new guy!!!!!!!!!

  • 18.bliksem: Reply to this comment

reds think of all the money they can lose if this downward trend carries on.

  • 19.bliksem: Reply to this comment

reds just pay the useless players less, management as well.

why can’t they fire him? No performance clause!? Frans is obviously talented in contract negotiations not rugby:)

Come to America bro, here we just have restructuring lay-offs and we get rid off the deadwood.
The funny things is, the deadwood is so dumb they never realise it is because they are not good enough. They believe it is because of the economy or whatever.

Eloff is the right man and can take the Lions to CC success. I am glad that he gets his thoroughly deserved chance at last. But is he really the man in control or is this just changing decor? To me it seems like the same old with new titles – all to keep the sponsors and fans off their backs.

My question now is who’ll be the assistants. I hope at least here the GLRU have some courage and vision to contract in fresh faces. Timmmy Goodwin and Ian McDonald have had zero success with the Vodacon Cup side. But the buddy buddy system will probably just steam ahead as usual.

The poor Cats! They are stuck in the mud for five years. No hope there. It’s unbelievable that a franchise can be run like this. No performance clauses. Ludeke has landed himself the ultimate job.

Go LOFFIE!!! Sometimes it takes the darkest times to remind how good the good times are.Ludicrous has provided the darkest and perhaps Loffie will be the light. There is huge talent at the Lions and why they don’t just play S14 as the Lions, who knows.I am sure that if the “supporters” in JHB would get out to the games and show themselves in the dark days, not just when the Lions are actually managing to win a few it might help there cause.Still hoping **** and Rudi can tempt Wikus to the coast.

They always say you have to give a coach time, how many seasons do you recon is enough to say, hey ou pel laat jy MOVE!!!

  • 25.rednik: Reply to this comment

Ludicrous has no excuses now. As director of rugby he controls all in Jo-burg.

This is going to be a costly decision.

billy I just wish that the old ring leader would stick his head in the mouth of a Lion having a bad day.

Tackler (post 13) I’m embarrassed to say it but it seems that the SA-admin is stupid enough to keep on doing it.

  • 30.the_raging_rhodent: Reply to this comment

south african teams need to start looking overseas for coaches. i hate to say it but we dont have enough quality coaches in this country. bring in foreign experts to reinstall a professional world class work ethic in our players

  • 31.RedCard: Reply to this comment

rodent, I think that Loffie Eloff is right guy. He had paid his dues, coaching the junior Bok sides.

  • 32.Silent Bob: Reply to this comment

    Spot on, Raging Rhodent,

I think a careful study of what John Mitchell has done with the Force this year should be a prerequisite for any coach or administrator in SA.

They may not be the end product yet but they are improving with almost every game and you can see a real sense of purpose in their play. Some of their individual players (especially in the backline) may not be Super 14 material in the long-term but they have already paoched Drew Mitchell and Matty Git which will help them next season.

I have seen no pattern and no improvement in the Cats play this year and inconsistency is the hallmark or either a very young, inexperienced team or poor coaching … in this case the latter.

    Ha ha ha !

Serves the Cats right ! From the top to the very bottom this Union is screwed. What Union in this day and age contracts a coach WITHOUT a performance clause ?

The biggest investment the Cats can ever make is to rake the money together and buy out Frans Ludeke. Oh, and to fire the attorney that drew up the contract as well. Take out a bond on Ellispark, but please fire the coach !!! Otherwise the Cats will remain the laughing stock of the Super 14 for the next 5 years…

  • 34.Rudebud: Reply to this comment

I moved house recently. When i switched on the television the Cats were on top of the Super 14 log ! It was then that i realised the TV were upside down…

  • 35.Bloem Leeu: Reply to this comment

Its only in SA that one can get a job promotion when you failed horribly doing your job and get paid millions for doing it!!!!!

    Where’s the light?……

I’m going to tell my boss he is a doos right now piss on his reports and finally tell him I’ve been banging his wife and daughters since last November. Wonder what increase I’m gonna get?

  • 37.Lang Giel: Reply to this comment

The Cats can now move their headquarters to Helpmekaar Hoërskool. They will be able to accommodate all their fans with ease.

So much for Ferreira’s performance appraisal system!

  • 38.RedCard: Reply to this comment

    Lang Giel,

The Headmaster there is a German bloke who doesn’t stand for any mediocrity and slapgat houdings.

He’ll sort them out. So you idea is a bloody good one.

The back page of today’s Star carries an article to the effect that the senior players are revolting (AGREED) and that many have not igned new contracts.

Do Cats supporters laugh or cry?

  • 40.RedCard: Reply to this comment

    Sarky,

The revolting bit, is it because they dont go for as many facials and manicures as their Cape Town colleagues?
