Sharks search for next JP
Despite a resurgent performance in the Vodacom Super 14, the Sharks are not resting on their laurels ahead of the Absa Currie Cup.
Sharks coach Dick Muir has called a trials match so that he can get a good look at the next tier of talent in the province before the Absa Currie Cup, which starts late next month, the Mercury reported.
At the moment, Muir is missing 20 players who have been called up to either the Springbok training camp or the South Africa U21 squad.
The trials will takes place at King’s Park this evening and will involve mostly club players. Muir held trials soon after he took over from Kevin Putt last year and unearthed players such as JP Pietersen and Waylon Murray.

Very original indeed from **** Muir. The club players at least know that if they play well Muir may give them a look in. If the Super 14 is anything to go by the threat to the other teams will be from the Sharks this year.

Haaie sal goeie finaliste wees net om uiteindelik teen die Bulle te verloor. Maar van al die spanne, verdien hulle die meeste om in die finaal vas te val…

i just wish the lions could do the same seeing that club players never get a chance and get bought by the smaller unions like the falcons and pumas

Muir has got his head screwed on right, wish the other Provinces can do this. It gives the club players more hope that someone will see them.

I don’t understand what all the fuss is about around JP – I personally think he is a average player and I don’t see him ever making the Boks…

I think one one of the many reasons club rugby is dying is because the coaches treat club players like they have some sort of virus or something so if ur a late developer maybe 22 yrs old and u havent gone through some sort provincial academy or played craven week u have very little chance of making it to s14 and bok level its nice to see **** muir gives these players a chance.

Good to see a SA franchise following trend of scouting and not resting on a season that may have been, good on the sharks.

Bigg – that is why you sit and read Keo everyday and are not allowed near a rugby field!

good idea by ****, our top coaches should be talent scouting more often.
