Valke tighthead Philip Lemmer will take no further part in this year’s Absa Currie Cup after being found guilty of dangerous play.
The big No 3 was sent off in the match against Vodacom Western Province for a spear tackle on centre Corne Uys. A South African Rugby Union disciplinary committee has since handed him a three-match suspension as punishment.
This means that Lemmer will miss the Valke’s last two Currie Cup games against the Pumas and the Sharks, as well as the first match of next season.
Uys suffered an injury as a consequence of this tackle, but word from the WP camp is that he should be alright for the match against the Lions at Ellis Park this weekend.
