Cheetahs to keep it clean

The Vodacom Cheetahs will not retaliate to dirty play by the Blue Bulls in Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup final.

Erasmus told Die Volksblad that some of their opponents this season seemed to regard dirty play as the recommended tactics against his team.

The Bloemfontein-based newspaper pointed out that Richardt Strauss (cuts on the face), Jannie du Plessis (stiff arm), Kabamba Floors (head), Darron Nell (fist) and Bevin Fortuin (fist) have all been “victims” of dirty play.

“Top players enjoy a hard game, as long as it remains a clean game,” said Erasmus. “I am confident that referee Jonathan Kaplan will not allow any transgressions.”

The coach said he would also instruct his players to remain within the limits of the law.

As they have been all season, go Cheetahs!

  • 2.ciccino: Reply to this comment

Now this is amaizing. They are trying to play the same trick with the same ref. We won’t be intimidated. In fact it’s cheetahs who play dirty. But I’m sure Kaplan will make sure cheetahs have an advantage.

Is there any other way to injure your fist besides using it?

I’l defeinately be backing the cheetahs for this one!!!

  • 5.Hoops: Reply to this comment

The bulls get away with far too many niggles…like pushing players heads into the ground after the whistle gone!!!! Pathetic to think any bulls fan think the cheetahs are the dirty ones!!!!!

  • 6.ciccino: Reply to this comment

Yes JC, Bulls are guilty for having their ribs too tough so that poor cheetahs boy are injuring their fists!

  • 16.ciccino: Reply to this comment

It’s in report a couple of cheetahs players have fist injuries and I assume it’s due to other players’ strong ribs or cheekbones.

  • 17.tackler_of_note: Reply to this comment

They don’t have fist injuries read it again. They have been hit with fists, stiff arms, head butts etc.

  • 18.Koos: Reply to this comment

ton, wasting your time, ciccino reads what he wants, not what is actually printed. The poor fellow never got over last years loss, still bitter with Kaplan and anything with a tint of orange. His shrink said it may take a while…

  • 19.ciccino: Reply to this comment

First write reports properly. One player have cuts in the face it’s an injury I assume and then it goes on in the same manner (stiff arm), (fist) any normal person would assume it’s the same line = injuries.

  • 20.ciccino: Reply to this comment

I just don’t understand the only players that are singled out are bulls. and the rest teams are poor little boys in pink scirts? I don’t think so. It’s just the way cheetahs are trying to manipulate kaplan again that makes me sick. I don’t mind when bulls loose games when opposition played better like agains sharks at loftus or against WP at newlands. You won’t find a singe complain about ref after that games. But when bulls loose becouse of ref’s incompetence or cheating that makes me mad.

  • 22.pieterman: Reply to this comment

    Ciccino
Chill out brother, your team is still in with a chance on Saturday, save the squeels for after the game.

  • 23.ciccino: Reply to this comment

It doesn’t matter if i reffed or not those guys are professionals. If a player plays badly he gets dropped, whereas refs become untoucheble. It’s not right.

  • 24.Swapo: Reply to this comment

Jannie du Plessis probably got what he deserved, he is frequently involved in off-the-ball “incidents”…and if Philip Burger gets ‘n klap, its because he was looking for it…

  • 25.ciccino: Reply to this comment

    Pieterman,
It’s final any team has chances, I just hope those chances won’t be determined by ref and we would be able to enjoy the game.

I think everything will be cool come Saturday and we’ll have a great ball game. Don’t worry.

I don’t disagree with you Ciccino,

All I’m saying is you should have a go sometime, it’s WAY harder than it looks from the couch.

Replays and Slowmo are great for armchair critics but trying to watch 5 things at once and make the right call every time is really hard.
Getting it wrong occasionally makes you human, not a cheat.

  • 31.ciccino: Reply to this comment

Ricane. I understand that it’s not easy. But they are paid to do difficult job. ANy one would have been reffing if it was easy. My point is that noone can critisize refs, public don’t see any evaluation of ref’s perfomance, and when they don’t do well they get rewarded and not dropped.

  • 32.ricane: Reply to this comment

    What do you mean
“noone can critisize (your spelling) refs”

Everyone criticizes them, which is probably why the evaluation reports are not made public.

  • 33.ciccino: Reply to this comment

No if coach or player or anyone from the team’s management criticizes (thanx) he get’s in trouble. Rugby code of conduct does’t alow ctiticizm of refs.

The BB are a bunch of bully losers, and when they cannot bully they cannot win, simple as that, and like all bullies they fold when anyone actually stands up to them…and that is mainly WHY Freestate will and MUST win, so that justice can be served and righteousness restored to our national game, which is run by losers for losers…only Freestate can save SA rugby…VIVA Cheetahs !!!!

Here in NZ if we ever have Kaplan as a match official we consider this an priviledge.

He is rated the best Ref in the world by many of Our Journo’s.

Bulls and Cheatahs should be extremely familiar with his style—–So whats to complain about?

You are lucky to have such an Official for the game. Be proud, he is respected “BIG TIME’ everywhere else in the world.

  • 38.ciccino: Reply to this comment

  • 40.ciccino: Reply to this comment

    cane,
He might be respected but this year he wasn’t the best ref in the country, in my view Jubert was. Kaplan gets to ref the final just becouse he is respected. that is not the right way. Last year he was absolutely manipulated by cheetahs and everyone had an impression tha in fact Naka was the ref.

2 weke terug bulls/ cheasers het falie oelshig jaco engels se kop in die grond gedruk, binne 1 minuut na die afskop, maar niemand het ‘n woord hieroor gesê nie.

    ciccino,

you’re wasting your time with these one minded tossers, they hate the bulls and will never admit they are the best. remember the tallest trees catch most of the wind (or something like that)

The main reason why the BB are despised is their negative BAD rugby, which with the dirty play has dragged all SA rugby down for a decade, now with the Freestate on the up and set to take control all SA supporters can slowly regain pride and confidence in the national team, albeit only after the coming world cup fiasco…

Verder, Muskadel, hoe is dinge daar teen jou berghang?

  • 63.Fred: Reply to this comment

As I said before the bulls play on the edge and rugby is not for sissies. It is about absorbing pressure. I believe the cheetahs will be in the bulls’ faces early on to try and unsettle them like they did with the sharks (and the bulls did with the sharks). I also expect Rassie to appoint one or two enforcers – but not guys you will expect it from, to catch the bulls off guard.

I think the bulls have kept their composure well in the last number of matches, expecially since Gary Botha has been captain. If they can give what they receive – within the laws – I don’t think they will be unsettled again. Lobberts may play a major role here.

The team who obtains territorial advantage together with applying pressure on the opponents will win. Pressure will cause mistakes, mistakes will cause scoring opportunities. Defence will play a major role in exerting defence. The cheetahs did this well against the sharks last weekend, but the bulls have a few aggressive tacklers who i am sure will exert pressure on the cheetahs as well.

It doesn’t matter who you support in this match it will be a cracker. And hopefully the bulls will be the team to absorb pressure better.

Two players with injuries to their fists???

Sure! I’m also a victim of bullying when i went to hatfield one night and someone hit me in the fist with their face.

Just watch the Cheetahs play this weekend. They are gonna do exactly what they did last year in the final and a few weeks ago. They play rough and pick fights with the Bulls players so that the Bulls loose discipline. Thats the only way they know how to beat the Bulls. Ryno vd Merwe is gonna churp every single player untill one snaps and headbutts him in the chest.

  • 66.CC-Sors: Reply to this comment

How stupid one can be- If Rhyno is chirping- everyone is chirping,by the way- why be so stupid to retaliate? The Bully boys only know one gameplan. Their forwards want to bully their opponents. Ek het nuus vir hulle.

Difference is the Cheetah’s didn’t allow it, to detract their focus.

Bulls lost the final, stop squelling like a bunch of mofs, and focus on the final, else ollie will be lighting up another Cuban

What a bunch of sore losers!!

    couldnt agree more;

    bulls are constantly guilty of dirty play, more so in pretoria than at other grounds, almost like a gang of chickenshit schoolboys;
catch them alone and they shake in thier boots put them all together in the cauldron of loftus with 50 000 one-eyed patriots
screaming the latest steve hofmeyer song and they will bully you into submission!

If one has ever been to watch a game in pretoria, you’ll know what im talking about!

must be something in the klipdrift, or the water…

different story saturday, i think they will come unstuck.
