End of the World
25 Apr 2007
Australia shattered the Proteas’ World Cup dreams with a crushing seven-wicket victory in St Lucia.
This was a truly abysmal performance from a South African side that spoke a great game beforehand. Unfortunately, when it came time to actually deliver the goods on the field, they froze like a deer in the headlights.
The Proteas were guilty of overconfidence following their victory against England — a side ranked seventh in the world. All of a sudden they believed they could beat Australia (based on what?) and told anyone who cared to listen that they had a great shot. Like during their last tour Down Under, when Graeme Smith had so much to say, that bravado backfired badly.
When Smith won the toss on Wednesday and decided to bat first, he knew the pitch would offer the bowlers something early on. The captain must have regretted his decision the moment he was castled by Nathan Bracken for 2, playing an overly aggressive shot.
Having watched his captain throw his wicket away, key batsman Jacques Kallis went in similar fashion to Glenn McGrath for 5. AB de Villiers and Herschelle Gibbs played sensibly, before the opener, on 15, edged a Shaun Tait delivery to Adam Gilchrist.
It soon got a lot worse.
Ashwell Prince had a brain explosion when he chased a wide delivery from McGrath and edged it to the ‘keeper. Mark Boucher then nicked the first ball he faced to Matthew Hayden at first slip to leave the Proteas’ innings in tatters at 27-5.
Gibbs and Justin Kemp temporarily halted the carnage, adding 60 runs for the sixth wicket, before Tait had Gibbs (39) and Andrew Hall (3) caught behind. Shaun Pollock then gave Brad Hogg a simple return catch and the Proteas were 103-8.
Andre Nel, to his credit, managed to stick around for a lot longer than most of the established batsmen. However, the tailender stupidly chose to exchange words with Shane Watson, which is acceptable if your team’s on top, but only makes you look like an idiot when you’re in major trouble. In any event, Nel scratched his way to 8 off 41 balls, before lobbing an easy catch to Micheal Clarke off Tait.
Having made virtually no impact during the World Cup either with bat or ball, Kemp kept going at the other end. He was given a life on 48 when Tait dropped a sitter on the boundary, only to be prevented from reaching fifty when Watson bowled Charl Langeveldt to close the innings at 149.
South Africa needed early wickets to fight their way back into the game, and they struck early when Langeveldt bowled Gilchrist. Australia should have been 6-2 when Prince dropped Ponting, who raced to 22 before having his stumps rearranged by Nel.
A 66-run partnership between Hayden and Michael Clarke settled any nerves Australia may have had, before Hayden mistimed a drive off Pollock and was caught by Smith for 41.
Clarke (60*) and Andrew Symonds (18*) then finished the job with 111 balls remaining.
South Africa 149 (43.5 overs)
Justin Kemp 49*, Herschelle Gibbs 39, Shaun Tait 4-39, Glenn McGrath 3-18
Australia 153-3 (31.3 overs)
Michael Clarke 60*, Matthew Hayden 41, Shaun Pollock 1-16
Australia won by 7 wickets

25 Apr 2007, 11:44 am
Hi Pietman
Saffa_guy, we have the batsmen and fielders. Today our bowlers need to be creative and frustrate the ex-convicts into playing poor shots
25 Apr 2007, 11:48 am
well, we’ve been the form team in the past and have been pipped at the post, so perhaps by just scraping into the semis we’ll nail them. yes, i think that will happen. 2-0 SA.
25 Apr 2007, 11:49 am
aussies will win
25 Apr 2007, 11:51 am

SA by 38 runs or 3 wickets!
25 Apr 2007, 11:53 am
In RWC 95, the All Blacks destroyed all comers. In the opinion of many they were the best team of the tourny. That said, on the day of the final, passion and guts prevailed. May it once again be repeated today.
25 Apr 2007, 11:53 am
I say it again. If Polly can do some damage upfront we WILL beat them. Lets hope it does’nt go the wrong way like last time though.
25 Apr 2007, 11:53 am
#11 – the race to the toilet?
25 Apr 2007, 11:55 am
We must win, previous WC has been so unfair to us
Go SA!!
25 Apr 2007, 11:58 am
If we win the CWC, we will just brush aside the problems that lie beneath for the next year or so. Get rid of that Bear, Arthur and his captain, Graeme “We will peak at the WC” Smith
25 Apr 2007, 12:00 pm
Die Aussies gaan ons opf#k. Hulle is man vir man beter as ons. Aanvaar dit en beweeg aan. Kom ons hoop net dit is nie ‘n slagting nie.

KANGAROO PIE! GET YOUR KANGAROO PIE HERE! FRESH OUT OF THE OVEN!
25 Apr 2007, 12:01 pm
If we bowl first we will need 3 or 4 wickets within the 1st 15 overs. Only then can we hold them back from getting 300+
If we bat 1st we will need at least 270 on the board!
25 Apr 2007, 12:02 pm
GO PROTEAS GO
25 Apr 2007, 12:02 pm

25 Apr 2007, 12:03 pm
Koos, wat rook jy?
25 Apr 2007, 12:03 pm
Bertus moenie so pessimisties wees nie.
25 Apr 2007, 12:04 pm
Come, all you boets and swaers out there – do the cricketing world a favour and klap those pesky Aussies.
25 Apr 2007, 12:06 pm

25 Apr 2007, 12:11 pm
as long as Pietersen doesnt play we fine
he cant even turn the ball on a gravel road
25 Apr 2007, 12:12 pm
Good form is not perpetual, Ausies were almost too good in the run-up. They have to fail sometime and they know it. Now is the time. Man will we hand over that “chokers” tag with pride! Ceremony will be right here, same time, tomorrow.
25 Apr 2007, 12:13 pm
#30 Shooter, kom hie lat ek jou bliksem, Bertus is ‘n trotse naam akomstig vanaf die Romeine, jou tappit.

Rook niks Bertus.
Is net positief!
25 Apr 2007, 12:21 pm
Hierdie is nu fun sonder Tickles nie.
25 Apr 2007, 12:21 pm
Nervous as sin about this one.
The only certainty is that every SA player will need to play their part to get a win here.
25 Apr 2007, 12:22 pm

Sal nie sommer vir Tickles sien vandag na gisteraand nie!

Topcat well he is playing unless you willing to do something about it. I do’nt thinl Nel will like it though
25 Apr 2007, 12:51 pm

Murali is simply the best bowler you need not worry about him,you should be worrying about the new chucker on the block-Tait.He might be a factor today with the old ball.
25 Apr 2007, 12:55 pm
JL1
I think Ntini will be the best option today,he usually produces his best bowling after bieng rested/dropped.

A South African was sitting with an Aussie and an Englishman in Saudi Arabia, sharing a smuggled barrel of beer, when all of a sudden the police entered and arrested them. They were initially given the death sentence but contested this and were finally imprisoned for life. But as it
was a national holiday, the Sheikh decided they should be released after each receiving 20 lashes of the whip.
As they were preparing for their punishment, the Sheikh suddenly said: “It’s my first wife’s birthday today and she asked me to allow
each of you one wish before your whipping, but you can not wish to not be whipped!”
The Englishman thought for a second then said: “Please tie a pillow to my back before whipping.” This was done but the pillow only lasted 10
lashes before the whip went through. The Englishman cried in pain.
The Aussie saw this and said: “Please tie 2 pillows to my back before whipping.” This was done and lasted for the whole 20 lashes.
The Aussie stood up smiling.
The South African saw this but before he could make his wish, the Sheikh said: “As you are from South Africa with all that crime, a cricket team who is always losing in a final and a rugby team who can’t win anything, you are permitted to have two wishes!”
The South African thought for a second, then said: “Thank you most Royal and Merciful Highness. My first wish is to receive a hundred
lashes with the strongest, toughest whip available.”
“If you so desire,” the Sheikh replies with a questioning look on his face, “and your second wish?”
“Tie the Aussie to my back”
25 Apr 2007, 13:33 pm
Struck on the hand by a beamer? What is it with those fuckers? Think they own the road.

Miskien moet Roger the dodger inkom vir die groot games! NOT!!
25 Apr 2007, 14:29 pm

Vrou maak hom klaar lol

Dankie vir foties!
Kyk jy die krieket daar?
25 Apr 2007, 15:23 pm
Why did we choose to bat first?
Haven’t these pitches helped the bowlers early on?
And since when do we have the balls to bat aggressively without the “freedom” of chasing a monstrous total?
25 Apr 2007, 15:23 pm
Pietman , nee maat , sal so 4 uur sluit en huistoe gaan. Ons kan dit ding doen vandag/
25 Apr 2007, 15:24 pm
we only lost games chasing…
25 Apr 2007, 15:24 pm

25 Apr 2007, 15:27 pm
of live op cricinfo, wisden se site
25 Apr 2007, 15:28 pm
Reports here (UK) says the pitch will wear out and become more difficult to bat on (hence Smith’s decision to bat first). Other reports claim that pigs will soon be able to fly and that Tony Blair is growing in popularity….
25 Apr 2007, 15:29 pm
Dankie Pietman
25 Apr 2007, 15:29 pm
You can also follwo the match on video commentary on BBC’s Sport page

25 Apr 2007, 15:52 pm
Brilliant thx Wallabie !
Surprised you watching … surely your boys just had to turn up?
25 Apr 2007, 15:52 pm
Kallis / AB / Gibbs / Boucher / Pollock / Prince
We only need 3 of them to fire….
25 Apr 2007, 15:53 pm
Very slow on this thread today…must got to do with confidence.
The game is not over people it is only one wicket.
25 Apr 2007, 15:54 pm
Lol
Very soon Wallabie will be prattling away to himself.
Chatting away with no one listening.
25 Apr 2007, 15:54 pm
Just imagine Gibbs and AB getting it on with Boucher to finish.
Maybe even Kemp can come to the party today…
25 Apr 2007, 15:54 pm
2 down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 15:55 pm
Wallabie you twit.
Everyone’s gone home.

25 Apr 2007, 15:56 pm
Ja, today Kempie BETTER come to the party !!! This teaboy-disguise is a lot of ****.
Fark, Kallis gone too ! def going home to watch this.
Well, as long as the wind keeps blowing when they bat i guess! Except it’ll prob rain and they get DL advantage!
25 Apr 2007, 15:56 pm
Ooh dooie donner
25 Apr 2007, 15:56 pm
Remove Kallis from the above posts, I think we are fucked…
25 Apr 2007, 15:57 pm
Bringback
Yea, I am gonna watch prob about 20 overs and will see whether I should go to bed.
The comp restarts at the knock out phase so SA are still in it.
Aus still has to reply.
Both batsmen played very poor shots.
25 Apr 2007, 15:57 pm
Kom huistoe boys , as dit so aangaan kan julle maar huistoe kom. AB en Gibbs sal nou moet fire.
25 Apr 2007, 15:58 pm
198- not even to a slow rate mate. looks like not at all.
25 Apr 2007, 15:58 pm
Dawn
Go and take a chill pill.
25 Apr 2007, 15:58 pm
Weer te min gesuip eergisteraand !!!
25 Apr 2007, 15:59 pm
well, we’ve got the 2 right boys at the crease … if they can follow the ball, but after them, we might all start going to bed.
25 Apr 2007, 15:59 pm
I am not happy, 2 down. Time for AB to make go of it
25 Apr 2007, 16:01 pm
I must say I really like watching Gibbs play when he is on fire.
Him and Gilchrist are from the same cricketing cloth.
25 Apr 2007, 16:02 pm
problem is with the wind blowing so hard, it might put his fire out (too)
25 Apr 2007, 16:07 pm
Nog nie eers ‘n uur se spel nie en ons is al klaar in ons moer in!
25 Apr 2007, 16:08 pm
215 go the ABs
25 Apr 2007, 16:08 pm
Devilliers is a good batsman!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:08 pm
Province 2 down and two to go. Thank goodness we have another 7 players!
Chukka Tait is on……
25 Apr 2007, 16:10 pm
3 down
Oh dear!! its trouble now.
25 Apr 2007, 16:10 pm
Rustig bly manne, dis te vroeg om te panic. O hel, daar gaan AB….
25 Apr 2007, 16:10 pm

25 Apr 2007, 16:10 pm
Ab Out to Tait
25 Apr 2007, 16:11 pm
Oh dear as in this semi final is peetering out to a no show by SA.
Come on put some fight into it.
25 Apr 2007, 16:12 pm
Wallabie,
Will put some fight when Tait straightens his arm!
25 Apr 2007, 16:12 pm
They’re not even putting up a fight. What an inept World Cup performance this has been.
25 Apr 2007, 16:12 pm
26/3 in 8.5ov
I’m too scared to drive home to watch it on box in case I miss our innings!
25 Apr 2007, 16:12 pm
Aaaaag wat geen probleem nie, ons gaat hierdie game maklik wen!!!!!!
Hel maar hierdie Valiums gemeng met Prozac werk fanatsties.
25 Apr 2007, 16:12 pm
We are blowing it.. Why Bat first why?
25 Apr 2007, 16:14 pm
right Gibbs, forget the 6×6′s … go for a 175+ instead!
25 Apr 2007, 16:14 pm
#231,
Coz when we bowl second in spinner’s conditions, Smith is gonna look good! Well, not actually.
Maybe Woolmer had an inkling of what was going to happen?
25 Apr 2007, 16:15 pm
Hmm,Zollie Gibbs and Princess to pull us out the kak?
25 Apr 2007, 16:15 pm
Bloody good question, jannes. Smurf obviously has a plan up his sleeve.
25 Apr 2007, 16:15 pm
175
That’s just about 30 sixes.
25 Apr 2007, 16:15 pm
Prince out to McGraw!
25 Apr 2007, 16:16 pm
4 down
This is getting silly!!!
At least the bantter was exciting… lets call it the pre game warm up.
25 Apr 2007, 16:16 pm
This is embarising
25 Apr 2007, 16:16 pm
Fark, batting first was a bad choice
We’ll need runs to put them under pressure to play risky shots, and thats prob not happening.
25 Apr 2007, 16:16 pm
As a matter of interest, what’s the bookies odds of SA not getting past 100 and Oz to win in 10 overs?
25 Apr 2007, 16:17 pm
chokers
25 Apr 2007, 16:17 pm
I am beginning to feel sorry for you guys.
5 down
25 Apr 2007, 16:17 pm
Boucher out first ball!
25 Apr 2007, 16:17 pm
27 for 5
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
You put four wickets in the first 10 overs down to deciding to bat first?! I’d say it has more to do with inept batting, and no BMT.
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
There is some good fishing on espn
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
Oh shite, now its going titts up!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
ooh fok, thats the last time i comment on a cricket channel…is there any point in carrying on with this sport in sa?
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
what a bunch of wankers. Too much “I’ve never seen the team so confident” instead of playing the freeking game!
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
Oh ah Glenn Mcgrath.
25 Apr 2007, 16:18 pm
Guess SA is making a statment like Province have been doing in rugby……..
25 Apr 2007, 16:19 pm
it seems as if someone can’t handle the truth
25 Apr 2007, 16:19 pm
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We talk about controlled agression and brave cricket yet here we are at 27/3 as our three top run scorers are all out playing stupid/poor shots.
This makes me sick, who cares if we were number 1 for a while, who cares about the score we chased down in Jo’burg over a year ago. Teams are judged on World Cup’s, and we have won none, heck we have’nt even made the finals. SA have no excuse for this, they won the toss so they controlled their fate there and none of the dismisals have being down to poor umpiring – just poor batting!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:19 pm
There are going to be some ery sorry saffas tomorrow.
25 Apr 2007, 16:19 pm
Yawn, need I say anymore 26/4, what is it with the Protea’s?
They should be flogged at dawn!
Can anybody explain to me why Smith selected to bat?
Even the online comentators were like WTF?
Ponting must be pissing in his pants with laughter!
25 Apr 2007, 16:20 pm
I’m not allowed to say chokers twice – shame
25 Apr 2007, 16:20 pm
Ahhhhhhhhhh ******* hell!!!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:20 pm
Smith = too much balls, zero brains.
25 Apr 2007, 16:21 pm
Gibbs caught behind but not given.
25 Apr 2007, 16:21 pm
438 game means something – ha ha ha
25 Apr 2007, 16:22 pm
I need to find a way to delete some of my posts…
25 Apr 2007, 16:22 pm
Why are so many players criticizing Smith for batting first. They should be batting better than this in the middle of the night!
25 Apr 2007, 16:22 pm
Your captain must just give up and start again another time.
25 Apr 2007, 16:22 pm
Fark : there’s very sorry saffas today!
25 Apr 2007, 16:22 pm
We win bloody more games batting second.. you know what i think we should have just given the game 2 england cause the way we are playing we dont deserve to be in the semi final.. Aussies are having a field day shame we cant say the same about their rugby..
25 Apr 2007, 16:23 pm
Bloutoria, which ones would you like to delete?
25 Apr 2007, 16:23 pm
262
25 Apr 2007, 16:23 pm
The only reason SA got as far as they did in the last two world cups was Klusenar.
Smith don’t like Klusenar so what you expect was going to happen?
25 Apr 2007, 16:24 pm
MATCH fixing!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:24 pm
This is what happens if your primadonna captain selects the coach…
25 Apr 2007, 16:25 pm
As the Oz commentator is saying “Nothing to do with the pitch”…………
25 Apr 2007, 16:25 pm
This has nothing to do with batting first – we are just kak! Look at the shots Smith, Kallis and Prince played! All the commentators and the guy doing the pitch report and BOTH captains would have batted first!
SA team are chokers!
25 Apr 2007, 16:25 pm
35/5 ???????????????????????????????????????
25 Apr 2007, 16:26 pm
266
Aus – 3 world cups in cricket and 2 at rugby = 5
We may just add another on saturday…maybe
SA – 1 world cup rugby and 0 in cricket = 1
25 Apr 2007, 16:26 pm
27/5 Boucher out McgRath on hatrick.
Wow Graham you really sorted that puzzle out, chop!
25 Apr 2007, 16:26 pm
hehe looks like we agree OCO
25 Apr 2007, 16:26 pm
#267
My post number 33 is hilarious right now.
25 Apr 2007, 16:27 pm
yeah, drunkmonkey, I agree. The aussies have a remote-controlled ball or something.
1) Think we can get 100?
(in that case I might run home to catch the tv)
2) Thank we can defend 100? After all, its only the aussies, not bangla.
25 Apr 2007, 16:27 pm
DM,
No! What would ever make you think that? Smith should be finished after the W/C, Gibbs is alreay known for it. Kallis was in the ‘match fixing’ teams of the past.
All from the same Province. Do you think that there is possibly any collusion?
25 Apr 2007, 16:27 pm
Gibbs is still there so anything can still happen.
25 Apr 2007, 16:27 pm
and im such a sucker for punishment that i keep watching this ****…
25 Apr 2007, 16:28 pm
WTF is happening to us???
25 Apr 2007, 16:28 pm
Ooh, yeah post 33 is quite good. Maybe Keo should write an article on post 33.
25 Apr 2007, 16:28 pm
Who was it that asked all fans to stay up to watch the game? Kallis or Pollock? At this rate, we would still have time for a braai afterwards…
25 Apr 2007, 16:28 pm
walla
There is no-one left to bat with Gibbs through 50 overs…we will probably get about 110 maks!
25 Apr 2007, 16:29 pm
scar
I think he meant the Aussies fans…
25 Apr 2007, 16:29 pm
Zhak, you are not soothing my pain.
25 Apr 2007, 16:29 pm
lol … it was kallis
25 Apr 2007, 16:30 pm
I bet they are sorry Ntini is not in the team … as a batsman!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:30 pm
Imagine Gibbs hitting 200 runs in 150 balls! I can wake up now…
25 Apr 2007, 16:30 pm
At least some of you guy are keeping your sense of humour.
Bloutoria
25 Apr 2007, 16:30 pm
Well Smith has his good and bad days… i think selection before the worldcup was really ****.. players like dale steyn, morkel should have been chosen. i think telemarkes or something like that that was choosen for the worldcup hasnt played 1 game.. i mean wtf..
25 Apr 2007, 16:30 pm
has the carnage stopped? am shitscared to refresh the page to see another wicket has fallen.
can we get some drink and weed onto the field? gibbs’ gummy-berry juice is our only hope.
25 Apr 2007, 16:31 pm
I smell a comeback. What’s that, 10 runs without losing a wicket?
25 Apr 2007, 16:31 pm
That’s all we have Wallabie, all we have had for some time ….
25 Apr 2007, 16:31 pm
well at least we beat the lowest score at 36 … we can still make the lowest semi-score if we try really hard i guess!
25 Apr 2007, 16:32 pm
4 Wides down leg side. Best SA 4 of the day!
25 Apr 2007, 16:32 pm
The commentators think this pitch will do more later on.
If SA can get 200 and bowl well we may have a contest.
25 Apr 2007, 16:33 pm
I don’t understand how people can blame bowling selections and choosing to bat first. There is no way they should be playing so badly under any circumstances!
25 Apr 2007, 16:33 pm
look at the positive side, we’ve got gibbs and kemp there … they never really get much of a chance, so lets give them a chance.
25 Apr 2007, 16:33 pm
Where is Joe Maher aka thunderdownunder????
The freakin bluntest tool in the shed!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:34 pm
Not even in the dark – sorry, that has been said already
25 Apr 2007, 16:34 pm
Wallabie,
Any sort of contest was decided against before the SA team even packed its’ bags.
25 Apr 2007, 16:34 pm
bringbacktheboks, with kemp’s record so far you might be asking a bit much
25 Apr 2007, 16:35 pm
How many runs will come off this partnership between Gibbs and Kemp.
I’ll guess 100. Then it’s down hill.
25 Apr 2007, 16:35 pm
Wallabie, your soothsaying makes it worse. Some of us have a bit of pride left.
Joining the minnows…
25 Apr 2007, 16:35 pm
Here is some classics by the Proteas:
“We know two good performances can make us world champions”. – Smith
“We want them to play as well as they can, and then beat them,†he said, adding, “They will know they’ve been in a match.†-Smith
“They must know we will give nothing less than 100%,†– Kallis
“We want our supporters to be proud of us. That is why we are as ready as can be for this match. We have also had messages from the Bulls and Sharks rugby teams to wish us well. We know what it means to the people back home and we can assure them we will do anything to ensure they will be proud of us.†– Mickey
25 Apr 2007, 16:35 pm
true cmm, but this is turaround day so far, isn’t it?
25 Apr 2007, 16:35 pm
..turn-around day..
25 Apr 2007, 16:36 pm
299, well unless it’s going to open a crack big enough to swallow the entire Aus batting line-up, it’s not really going to help us much.
25 Apr 2007, 16:36 pm
see … he just got 5 (wides)
25 Apr 2007, 16:36 pm
why is everyone getting so worked up?
What, did you really expect SA to wind today???? Come on
25 Apr 2007, 16:36 pm
50 up (for 5)!
25 Apr 2007, 16:37 pm
bringbacktheboks, hehehe. I like your enthusiasm. Wish you were coming out with me to the pub instead of this loud mouth aussie….
25 Apr 2007, 16:37 pm
The only way we will get 200 is if Ponting ang Gilchrist bowl the rest of the over – and even that will be close!
25 Apr 2007, 16:37 pm
yes ! 50 ! go boys !
Can’t understand the commentators – they think aus has won!
25 Apr 2007, 16:37 pm
Well tbh.. if we had chosen to bowl first atleast we would have known what target to reach.. i think aswell as that depending on our fielding a little less presure when batting..
25 Apr 2007, 16:38 pm
316 overs
25 Apr 2007, 16:38 pm
Look on the bright side, historically (at least since ‘re-admission) it’s the tail enders that have always pulled us through.
25 Apr 2007, 16:38 pm
313
I didn’t expect them to win. I expected them to put up a fight.
25 Apr 2007, 16:39 pm
At least Gibbs is trying! He deserves some cannabis after the match!
25 Apr 2007, 16:39 pm
lol yeh
25 Apr 2007, 16:40 pm
313
We Saffas are always optimist – just to be let down…
25 Apr 2007, 16:40 pm
In some perverted way I am enjoying this. Am I a bad person?
25 Apr 2007, 16:40 pm
Zollie Gibbs taking the fight to the opposition, fire it up son!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:40 pm
Time for Smith to go. He is sooooooo stupid. Dancing down the wicket against a quality bowler with a new ball thats swings
Thought he could carry on where he left off against England. Never realised that the Aussies r 2 times better than those poms.
25 Apr 2007, 16:41 pm
well the aussies need something 2 cheer about.. their rugby days are long gone..
25 Apr 2007, 16:41 pm
We really needed Gibbs to be in smoking form.
25 Apr 2007, 16:41 pm
Come on Gibbs, smoke those Aussies.
25 Apr 2007, 16:41 pm
Cant believe there is still 35 over to go! If we bat through them it will be great! Ag damn…im being too optimistic again!
25 Apr 2007, 16:41 pm
You gotta get your prvious coach back. To beat the windies soundly is awesome but then the team got back to SA and for the first time ever a player selected a coach and SA slid down the rankings in the tests.
Gibbs is playing well a competitive score rests on his shoulders.
25 Apr 2007, 16:42 pm
fark cmm, if he’s an aussie you got to ditch him fast. develop a headache or something!
50 in 86 balls … think that is better than SL yesterday, and they did ok
Com’mon boys, you can do this!
25 Apr 2007, 16:42 pm
Where there’s a smoke, there’s a fire.
25 Apr 2007, 16:42 pm
Kemp has 2, has he passed his total for the tournament yet?
25 Apr 2007, 16:42 pm
The Lions were never the CATS… The Proteas were the CATS!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:42 pm
well, am sorry, i remember watching all those dipshit austalians eating a bucketload of poo as the 434 match unfolded – but with such a poor start, gotta be buggerall chance of getting back into this one?
25 Apr 2007, 16:43 pm
And the Australian attack went up in Gibbs’ smoke.
25 Apr 2007, 16:43 pm
Ah ****! Watson bowling to Gibbs, thats all we need. Gibbs will go for the 6×6′s becasue of Watsons bad-mouthing.
25 Apr 2007, 16:43 pm
ja I’m starting to look very ill. Should be an easy sell
25 Apr 2007, 16:44 pm
Alan border reckons that SA was going to try and dominate our bowling but have not played the conditions too well.
25 Apr 2007, 16:44 pm
Hi everyone.
I just returned from Dresden back to Leipzig. I thought I would be back in time for the start of the match. Well, my train was delayed.
This is the first time I have a chance to look at the scoreboard.
Now I always thought that I did not have a hearing or seeing problem, but with the score at 55/5 I am convinced I need help….
Where is a good optometrist guys?
25 Apr 2007, 16:45 pm
That one was smoked throug the covers.
25 Apr 2007, 16:45 pm
The Lions were never the CATS… lol last years super 14 begs to differ
25 Apr 2007, 16:45 pm
Cannot decide what’s worse, wilted Proteas or the South African Commentators on Radio 2000
25 Apr 2007, 16:46 pm
I think this is a good omen,Zollie Gibbs and Hemp rolling the Ozzies
25 Apr 2007, 16:48 pm
I know a team of champions who you guys can support.
25 Apr 2007, 16:48 pm
I think Kemp and Gibbs are just wonderful at the moment. We are surely going to win. What a splendid day.
25 Apr 2007, 16:50 pm
Perhaps I should just go do something useful while Kemp and Gibbs complete their demolition job and subsequently bring home the World Cup trophy. Being a South African, I have no idea what the WC trophy looks like, but I’m sure it’s splendid.
25 Apr 2007, 16:50 pm
cmm, problem is the ******** know how to hook you in … start offering free beers and ****! You’ll have to make sure is a free dozen, because after that the bashing is irrelevant.
aussie supporters are quieting down now, that means they’re shitting themselves
Come on manne ! 60/5
25 Apr 2007, 16:50 pm
I think I know what’s going on. These guys are trying to unsettle the fielders and bowlers by inducing uncontrolled laughter.
The whole of South Africa is behind them… carrying whips and clubs.
25 Apr 2007, 16:51 pm
Gibbs to get his first 200 in ODI’s! Making up for the dropped catch in 1999. SA go on to win the world cup!
25 Apr 2007, 16:51 pm
Wallabie : there’s only one Tickler out there.
25 Apr 2007, 16:51 pm
lol at bloutoria
25 Apr 2007, 16:51 pm
Zhak lol.. dont worry come the rugby world cup we’ll have a trophy for sure
25 Apr 2007, 16:52 pm
SA looking strong…
25 Apr 2007, 16:52 pm
352, why 200? Why not 400? Why not 600? ****, when you think about it, Gibbs can do anything. He’s like a virtual demi-god.
25 Apr 2007, 16:53 pm
Jannes
And if its not the Rugby world cup, we will definately take the tabletennis world cup!
25 Apr 2007, 16:53 pm
i’ll be happy if we get a decent score atleast around 250..
25 Apr 2007, 16:53 pm
well supa, waugh reckoned Gibbs might put his hand up…still we’re in huge kak, lowest semi score ever is 93 which the poms made v aussies.
25 Apr 2007, 16:53 pm
Hogg is clearly a useless bowler, Kemp is still there.
25 Apr 2007, 16:53 pm
or the jikskei world cup
25 Apr 2007, 16:54 pm
seriously – Gibbs is playing some nice strokes…
25 Apr 2007, 16:54 pm
SDB #352,
Gibbs didn’t drop it. He threw it on the gorund when he realised what he’d done.
Still time for him to offer the same courtesy to Ponting too!
25 Apr 2007, 16:54 pm
Supa Die Bloubul, lol yeh look at the bright side of things
25 Apr 2007, 16:54 pm
Yessssssssss
Kemp is taking Hogg apart .. got 3 runs already – in 2 balls! Go Kempie !!!!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:54 pm
Mickey Mouse Arthur and Smiff…. you are the weakest CATS. F#$K OFF!!!
25 Apr 2007, 16:55 pm
cab
With Gibbs there we might just get to 93!!! Luckily the Aussies have a **** batting line-up…its only Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting, Clarke, Symonds and Hussey.
25 Apr 2007, 16:56 pm
with Nel power anything can happen
25 Apr 2007, 16:56 pm
Just like to see some dark brown stains on the ozzies pants with maybe a yellow patch in the front, well at least a wet patch.
Wonder of Oz wear yellow so the stains don’t show?
25 Apr 2007, 16:57 pm
OCO
Gibbs caught it and then realised the bookies wont like that…
25 Apr 2007, 16:57 pm
#368
Supa, you are cracking me up.
25 Apr 2007, 16:58 pm
I hear SA is using the “element of surprise” – Smith will open the bowling with Prince!
25 Apr 2007, 16:59 pm
Pollock has had a fairly quiet world cup. Maybe, just maybe, he can turn it around this time? Expect the Aussies to ‘go at’ him and Pollock now will be wise to this – may just be the difference at the end of the day.
Hope burns eternal!
25 Apr 2007, 16:59 pm
I need to go home now, but I’m afraid I’d miss the end of the innings.
25 Apr 2007, 17:00 pm
Bloutoria 372
Im sorry, when im nervous i make weak jokes!
25 Apr 2007, 17:00 pm
SDB #371,
Yup, that’s my take on it too. I have a feeling that Gibbs hasn’t been offered the same ‘terms’ this time round and may just have a point to prove.
25 Apr 2007, 17:01 pm
well we’re 5 down at 69/5 in 18th over. The sides are pretty evenly matched right now, so its game on.
Gibbs and Kemp at the crease with30 overs left… Kemp moving into double figures.
Its a saffas dream!
25 Apr 2007, 17:01 pm
I we just bat through 50 overs ill feel a lot better!
25 Apr 2007, 17:02 pm
Bloutoria @ 375 : I’ve had that dilemma since match start! Still sitting here!
25 Apr 2007, 17:02 pm
Man, OCO, Pollock is going to have an amazing game! He’s going to get a hatrick in his first over. With Pollock, anything can happen. Pollock is a genius with the ball. If he hadn’t taken up cricket, he would surely be a nobel prize winner.
25 Apr 2007, 17:03 pm
eish..and i was so looking forward to this match! At least now i can watch the lions/sharks game on Saturday without switching to the cricket every 5 seconds…
25 Apr 2007, 17:04 pm

Zhak #381,
Pollocks got an uncle (and father) in the furniture business so anything’s possible (like he may ‘deliver on time’?
25 Apr 2007, 17:05 pm
Only 16 runs left to beat the lowest semi score ever! Go Proteas!
25 Apr 2007, 17:05 pm
dialled that number but you didn’t answer
25 Apr 2007, 17:06 pm

Ek wens EGOLI wil begin – cant take this anymore!
25 Apr 2007, 17:08 pm
It’s bad enough having to contend with hail storms here in North Texas, now we have to cope with Kemp sending in missiles from the Carribean.
25 Apr 2007, 17:09 pm
nice one kempie … need about 20 more !
50 parnership up!!! 08600GOMANNE !!!

25 Apr 2007, 17:10 pm
Zhak,
In SA we call them hail Storms, in Texas they’re called Tornadoes.
25 Apr 2007, 17:10 pm
I’m afraid Kemp needs to be a bit more ambitious. He should try hitting a 7 next time.
25 Apr 2007, 17:11 pm
4 gibbs!
25 Apr 2007, 17:11 pm
#405, LMFAO
25 Apr 2007, 17:11 pm
Gibbs playing well.
25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm
If Gibbs go on to make a 150 and we win this match – he should be allowed to smoke dagga wherever he likes!
25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm
Zhak,
it is possible to hit a 6. He just has to ask the bowler to bowl a no-ball at the same as he hits a 6
25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm
janee, daai Tickles is ‘n aasvoel .. een wat moer-ver weg-hardloop as dit nie goed gaan nie!
25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm
Thank goodness I support the Lions because after this Protea performance if I didn’t have the Lions I might just kill myself… Good grief!!!
GO SRI-LANKA!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm

25 Apr 2007, 17:12 pm

Andrew Hall, with his back against the wall. Don’t I feel like a poepol?
25 Apr 2007, 17:14 pm
SDB #409,
It’s not too late for us all to start smoking dope……….
25 Apr 2007, 17:14 pm
Gibbs gone I dont think it is too soon to say that he takes the world cup hopes of SA with him..
SA certainly know how to talk up a game pity they dont know how to deliver….I was hoping for a close game.
25 Apr 2007, 17:15 pm
arg FARK … might as well stay at the office.
25 Apr 2007, 17:15 pm
Gibbs goes up in smoke.
25 Apr 2007, 17:15 pm
Well, at least that’s the end of the WP contingent. Perhaps we can now start to play cricket.
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
423 Too true.
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
Gibbs to play flyhalf for SA in the RWC as he is about to announce his retirement from cricket and give the Boks a go.
He feels that SA are short of good players.
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
422 oco
Whats the use? When i sober up, it will just hurt TICE as much!
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
Tait smokes Gibbs.
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
Wallabie,
So were the rest of us neutrals. This is car-crash cricket!
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
#423
You might still get one…if SA gets 170 it will be close.
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
isn’t there a rule if you’re out in under 25 overs, you can start batting over? If not, why?
25 Apr 2007, 17:16 pm
Langeveldt to make his first 100!
25 Apr 2007, 17:17 pm
Everytime you smoke someone, you smoke everything that that person has smoked. So Tait just smoked a lot of stuff.
25 Apr 2007, 17:18 pm
Ponting is doing fielding at suilly point without helmet or shin-guards. What an insult…
25 Apr 2007, 17:19 pm
SDB #429,
The idea is not to stop! It’s like getting drunk, if you sober up it hits you so why sober up?
25 Apr 2007, 17:19 pm
Hopefully we can finish our innings around 87. I think the guys are trying to teach Ernie Els and Retief Goosen a lesson in golfing.
25 Apr 2007, 17:19 pm
Pollie to make his last game a memorable one with a century!
25 Apr 2007, 17:20 pm
I meant second last. Off course there is still the final!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:20 pm
Kemp and Hall … we need another 138+ partnership from them now!
Kemp, remove Pontings front row (of teeth).
25 Apr 2007, 17:20 pm
Commentator says:
Aus pulled SA into trying to their type of game, and they were not quite there with skill level or mental preperation.
Ouch
25 Apr 2007, 17:20 pm
scar, is Pollock going to score a century, or give up a century? Somehow the latter seems more likely.
25 Apr 2007, 17:21 pm
Zhak #438,
It’s always good to keep a sense of humour (sorry, humor if you’re in the US(less)).
25 Apr 2007, 17:21 pm
what chokers??????
25 Apr 2007, 17:22 pm
Die Aussies is nou maar net bleddie goed in krieket!
25 Apr 2007, 17:24 pm
Daggles #445,
Woolmer knew SA were a bunch of chokers in his final moments.
Whoever did it I’ve got some new ‘contracts’ for you starting with Miff and Farter.
25 Apr 2007, 17:24 pm
Bye maters. Try hierdie verskoning: Die Ausies het nie die game gewen nie, die Proteas het hom verloor.
Werk vir my!
25 Apr 2007, 17:24 pm
Smith after the game:
“At least we cant be called ‘chokers’ anymore, i mean, we were 27/5 and we went on to reach a 100!”
25 Apr 2007, 17:25 pm
Bloutoria #448,
Werk vir my ook!
25 Apr 2007, 17:25 pm
It’s time for Graeme Smith to stand up and be counted as a captain, like Corne Krige. Perhaps he will accidently throw the ball in Boucher’s face during a runout attempt. Boucher will subsequently be stretchered off with concussion.
25 Apr 2007, 17:25 pm
What ****. just tuned in. i can’t believe it !!!
This is embarasing. You guys have been watching Tell me I am dreaming.
25 Apr 2007, 17:25 pm
Was at SAPPHIRE booth in Atlanta yesterday, and met up with some Sri Lankan business partners, was too funny, they couldn’t wait for the customers to be done talking so they could jump back onto cricinfo….me thinks cometh Sat SRL will be champs, and how much will that mean to these blokes, they are cricket lovers per se.
25 Apr 2007, 17:26 pm
#447
Shame on you.
Not something to joke about.
25 Apr 2007, 17:26 pm
of nog n verskoning:
“Die proteas het beserings, ons speel met ons B-span.”
25 Apr 2007, 17:26 pm
Smith said they hae removed the chokers tag after the last game.
Ponting has found another one and strapped it around Smith neck well and good this time attached a bell to it.
25 Apr 2007, 17:27 pm
Impala #452,
No it’s reality. We’re actually doing so well under Smith. I can’t believe it either!
Vaughn resigned because of the dismal English display. Wonder if Miff wil do so too?
25 Apr 2007, 17:27 pm
Wait for the roar from the SA supporters when the proteas reach 100.
25 Apr 2007, 17:27 pm
Sa is still the only team to chase down a total of 434!
hall out!
25 Apr 2007, 17:27 pm
7 down
25 Apr 2007, 17:27 pm
455,
There are no excuses… In typical SA fashion, we did all our talking off the field and nothing on it.
PATHETIC!
25 Apr 2007, 17:28 pm
459
25 Apr 2007, 17:28 pm
Mickey Arthur should be scared for men with towels when he goes to his hotel tonight. They might give him a good rubbing
25 Apr 2007, 17:28 pm
Smith after the game: “Like we’ve been saying all along, in this competition you need luck to win. Why have Australia won so many World Cups over the years (?) – luck. Why have Australia been demolishing everyone in this WC (?) – luck. Clearly all the luck has been with Australia.”
25 Apr 2007, 17:28 pm
Smith after the game:
“I am proud of how the boys kept fighting. We will take lessons from this, and come back stronger. We just want to also thank our supporters back home, because we do it for them and our great country”
25 Apr 2007, 17:29 pm
459
Sri lanka has the record total.
25 Apr 2007, 17:29 pm
They like the freakin stormers! LWLWL!
25 Apr 2007, 17:29 pm
#466
Sri Lanka batted first, hence they could not chase down the total….
25 Apr 2007, 17:30 pm
walla
Pls read – SL didnt chase 434 down! The batted first!
25 Apr 2007, 17:30 pm
Willie #454,
They haven’t pinned the murder on anyone yet. Just waiting for the culprits to exit the World Cup before pouncing. Let’s see what happens shall we?
25 Apr 2007, 17:30 pm
464
It’s all in the toss….this time its graeme smith who is the toss.
25 Apr 2007, 17:30 pm

25 Apr 2007, 17:32 pm
This is so emboerissing
25 Apr 2007, 17:32 pm
468
i did not say they chased the total total down I indicated that they had the record total.
25 Apr 2007, 17:32 pm
Tickler, the CWC chokers lost yesterday (5 semi’s lost already) … we’re just playing our natural potential – we’re #2 on ICC at the moment as you know.
25 Apr 2007, 17:33 pm
well, didn’t we get them all out for 113 in the final day of the sydney test a while back…get some pressure on them and watch them poep same as everyone else.
25 Apr 2007, 17:33 pm
#473
Howzit TheTackler!
25 Apr 2007, 17:33 pm
Smith must go as Captain
25 Apr 2007, 17:33 pm
With Pollock on, anything can happen. Pollock is a brilliant cricketer, and possesses a kind, charming personality. No one knows as much as Shaun Pollock. Pollock is very knowledgeable. Also, Pollock is good at cricket. By the way, I think SA is going to win.
25 Apr 2007, 17:33 pm
#481
111
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
It would be nice to at least give our bowlers something to aim at.
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
Die Aussies are the ONLY team to score 434 and LOSE the match!
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
I am getting tired beginning to repeat myself.
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
484 – are you gerook?
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm

25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
Zhak,
You are drunk and Polly is married. Move on!
25 Apr 2007, 17:34 pm
488- well, you don’t have to be here repeating yourself now do you wallabie
25 Apr 2007, 17:35 pm
111 ! We can do that, come-on manne !!!
Go polly!
25 Apr 2007, 17:35 pm
The difference between SA selection and Australia is that if you don’t perform you get dropped.
In SA you have to be on the wrong end of the race/province (hell that fits well) stick to get dropped.
Look at Pieter Kirsten 18 months of **** and he had to drop himself. Say a lot for Pitere, always knew his limitations/form. Pitty that the selectors don’t have the same foresight/fortitude/facing of reality.
25 Apr 2007, 17:35 pm
It’s ANZAC Day. The Aussies will not fold, as much as I want them to.
25 Apr 2007, 17:35 pm
487
The saffas are the only team to hold the #1 ranking and look like they will compete well against uganda and lose in the semis.
25 Apr 2007, 17:36 pm
Is it only Oz cricket that`s simply too good or is it the Vroteas that are just simply K@K?
IMO its a big BOTH!!!!
Dankie en totsiens.
25 Apr 2007, 17:36 pm
#495
On that pitch anything is possible.
Cricket is a funny game.
25 Apr 2007, 17:36 pm
OCO 457
The problem is that the captain is not part of the selection process like in the days of Hansie.
Now he is not held responsible. the coach is also not held accountable. There is no one who is at fault and no one is crapped out.
Who was the temporary coach? the one just before Arthur. Now he sorted the players like Boucher out. And we turned from pathetic with Simons to a fighting crowd.
Now we are a bunch of wets and nobody does anything about it. Time to change the coach and the system. The captain must pick his team.
What do you say?
25 Apr 2007, 17:36 pm
Whoever is stupid enough to say that this will make us stronger is talking a load of bull.
Half our current team are not going to be around for the next WC, so how is this going to make us stronger. Pollock, Boucher, Kallis etc won’t be around. Prince is never good enough to be international. Ntini has lost it! We are screwed!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:37 pm
483 bullet
And replace smith with who??
He is the best option we have
25 Apr 2007, 17:37 pm
494 vetkoek
I can go to bed and be back tomorrow to turn the screws on some saffas.
25 Apr 2007, 17:38 pm
Zhak #484,
Pollock is full of himself. Have met him but that was when he was at the top of his peak. maybe he has mellowed somewhat over the yers. Hope that he can justify his high world ranking today!
25 Apr 2007, 17:38 pm
Why can’t we have Chinese umpires. The know as much about this game as the Proteas.
25 Apr 2007, 17:38 pm
#501
You serious? You would give Graeme Smith MORE power he already has?
He has Arthur exactly where he wants him, under his control.
Smith is a dictator in our cricket. And he is only 26 years old.
25 Apr 2007, 17:38 pm
If the Aussies lose this from here i will laugh my gat off!
25 Apr 2007, 17:38 pm
Pollock has already survived 8 balls! That makes him one of the most successful batsmen for South Africa. I think he should be man of the match.
25 Apr 2007, 17:39 pm
not the 1st time we’ve held that ranking either, been at the top for years, its sacriledgous we aren’t picking off these tournaments.
25 Apr 2007, 17:39 pm
Howzit willievz … glad to see you’re here to support too
come-on Kempie : 100′s required!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:39 pm
four!
25 Apr 2007, 17:40 pm
508, way to go, Supa. Don’t you know that you need to keep your wish a secret for it to come to pass?
25 Apr 2007, 17:40 pm
Hoesit BBTB! Yes man, always, and times have never been this tough!
I am still adament that 170 is a very, very competitive score.
25 Apr 2007, 17:40 pm
Well, they say at 30 overs you can double your score – so we are looking at about 200??
25 Apr 2007, 17:41 pm
dj,
I ddo not know all the answers, but clearly its not him. He is too arrogant with his big mouth and he cannot perform when he should.
Every loosing team at a World Cup invariably looses their Captain as he has not done his job.
THe players, I feel, do not play for Smith. He has stabbed Polly in the back once before, and I think that there are better players who should still be there, but are not becuase of differences with Smithy!
He should be a batsman, no doubt, but not skipper.
Way too outspoken, with no subsistance to back it up with.
25 Apr 2007, 17:41 pm
Oh, wow. When Kemp is in this kind of form, there’s no stopping the Proteas. We’re well on our way to victory.
25 Apr 2007, 17:41 pm
willie
170 might be competitive, but we wont get near that.
25 Apr 2007, 17:41 pm
NZ and SA playing for 3rd and 4th place again…now where have I heard that before???
25 Apr 2007, 17:42 pm
I thought they were in the West Indies?
25 Apr 2007, 17:43 pm
They should make Roger Telemachus captain – he is the only one who didnt screw up once in the scup!
25 Apr 2007, 17:43 pm
11 boundaries in 98 is high. It’s the 1′s and 2′s that are missing.
25 Apr 2007, 17:43 pm
My assessment:
Proteas and Stormers have same issue. Prima donna players need to be put in line.
Answers: Mallet and Jennings. Strong characters, who will tell the Smith’s to FI / FO.
25 Apr 2007, 17:44 pm
Iets om ons te troos – die Aussies sal nie n span in die s14 semi he nie!
25 Apr 2007, 17:44 pm
508
I would laugh as well as who loses with this advantage.
8 down
25 Apr 2007, 17:44 pm
SA will be all out for less than 120
25 Apr 2007, 17:44 pm
I tend to agree with you impala.
Mickey Arthur with all his “brace cricket” talk and “calmness and patience” sounds like a freak tree hugger instead of a tough personality who can stand up to the demands of international cricket.
I would like to see someone who doesn’t accept second best and is prepared to tell people to feck off if they cant stand the heat in the kitchen
25 Apr 2007, 17:45 pm
Supa
Keep the dream alive, think positive, think 170
25 Apr 2007, 17:45 pm
527 -> Jennings
25 Apr 2007, 17:46 pm
Well SA it is all over at least your pre game warm up is competitive.
I will freekin laugh at myself if Aus lose from here.
25 Apr 2007, 17:46 pm
Maybe Charl Langeveldt can take 5 wickets in a row?
25 Apr 2007, 17:46 pm
Pollock is out. Typical! I have always maintained that Pollock is a hopelessly overrated player.
25 Apr 2007, 17:46 pm
Skim, so then we only loose by 5 wkts
25 Apr 2007, 17:46 pm
willievz,
you been popping those Germna strength pills again. How are those dreams in “happy land”?
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
Ja willievz, at 170 it might be possible, comfortabler at 200. But right now thats far off!
Can’t say till the other side bats, but the way it reads on cricinfo, pitch is a *******.
Fark Polly!
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
It’s better than 10….
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
Impala #501,
Non of the ‘old guard’ thought Smith was good enough and their comments are being amplified today.
Since ‘readmission’ the SA top order have been dominated by WP players (at least 60%). If you believe that in 15 years the batting has been properly dominated by one province then statistics will prove you totally wrong. SA’s previous performances in one day matches has been dominated by the lower order – in bowling and in batting. The ‘facts’ are there if you care to take a look.
Smith is not good enough. The comentators that I listen too are very negative as regards Smith’s cptaincy.
He isn’t good enough. Full stop. Any worthwhile selectors (including the captain) would not have the team as it is.
It’s about time all SA times are picked on merit, black or white, WP or otherwise.
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
wallabie,
Oz will make their total with the loss of only one wicket, just to drive the nail home!
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
Well there is always the RWC to get our hopes up …
25 Apr 2007, 17:47 pm
Zhak,
You’re a champ. Got you now
25 Apr 2007, 17:49 pm
Maybe, if Australia get off to a bad start they will panic about not winning the match with 40 overs to spare. So they’ll collapse.
25 Apr 2007, 17:49 pm
Kemp moet nou maar n paar sesse probeer slaan.
25 Apr 2007, 17:49 pm
Supa Die Bloubul,
Why wait for the RWC? There’s still a S14 trophy up for grabs and as many SA fans have been telling em this year, it’s got a South African franchise’s name on it…
I’m just unsure of when the Crusaders were bought by SARU
25 Apr 2007, 17:49 pm
It all started with that **** shot by Smith…
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm
chokers chokers chokers
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm
Die Valium en Prozac begin nou uitwerk – nou begin ek stress!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm
Supa,
I think Smith needs to go off an practice his tossing
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm
Wallabie the ARU can’t even select a board or a CEO. The Bumblies will be your top-placed team in the S14 at about 8th. Where do you get off and on ANZAC Day I must remind you that Diggers lost Lone Pine Hill twice and the Kiwis got it back.
And, you have a PM who is nearly as smart as George W Forest (Gump).
My father fought you in Korea and your troops have the ethics of…. Australians. With apologies to the Chappels.
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm
hehe stodders…and another good thing – there will be no Aussies in the s14 semis!
25 Apr 2007, 17:50 pm

547 stodders
I bet he even sucks at that!
25 Apr 2007, 17:51 pm
Graeme Smith is the Luke Watson of SA cricket. NOBODY LIKES HIM!
25 Apr 2007, 17:51 pm
Supa,
According to Minki he did hehehe
25 Apr 2007, 17:51 pm
Well, we all know that our tail enders are really our strength. With players like Nel and Langeveldt, we can really bolster our innings in the last 20 overs.
25 Apr 2007, 17:51 pm
no skim, it all started when Smith was born…
25 Apr 2007, 17:53 pm
Not even Paris Hilton sucks as much as the Proteas!
25 Apr 2007, 17:53 pm
This should serve Keo good for his previous threat on kiwis thats will choke in both CWC and RWC.
Its seems that what he is predicting is actually what will happen to Vroteas and Boks
Bwhoooohaaaahahahahahah!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:53 pm
Is he a tosser or a sucker?
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
go Nel !!!!!!!!!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
Boeta Dippenaat (met sy helse avg. in WI) – waars jy nou?????
O sorry ons het vir Loots daar – kom Lootsie my ou maat – die kalf is innie put!
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
548 Aidoc
Yeah the NZers are back on Lone Pine Hill wandering what the hell happened in the semis.
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
namblack
You are scaring the children on this site!
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
Willie 507
What I am saying is that whoever the captain is he should be held accountable for the performance of his team. For him to be held accountable he needs to be 100% happy with who is playing for him. If anyone feels they don’t need to listen to him he can leave them out of the team. It will give him player loyalty.
If the team does poorly now you axe the captain. The next captain plays to the same rules. Coach and captain move together.
I don’t think Smith is the right guy. someone said it earlier. He is to windgat and cannot perform on the field. He might do as a batsman though.
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
wtf is anzac day? the aussies and kiwis really must have insipidly memorable history to nationalise such non-events.
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
Namblack, the Proteas are not chokers. You only choke if you are trying to win! Clearly we weren’t really trying to win the WC.
25 Apr 2007, 17:54 pm
Hel maar nou vlieg die posts.
25 Apr 2007, 17:55 pm
My father fought you in Korea and your troops have the ethics of…. Australians. With apologies to the Chappels.

You tighten my NUTS with this comment…can I call you my SPANNER??
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
On a positive note, I see that your disabled athlete Oscar Pistorius is making waves in the sporting world.
Maybe Jake White can get him in to give the able bodied Boks an uppercut and remind them what it is that they are playing for again, and remind them of what sort of guts and work ethic it takes to make it to the top?
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
Some bookie must’ve paid all our batsmen to perform poorly!
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
he sucks batshit from cavewalls..
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
I can see Mickey Arthur’s plan now. It’s quite brilliant really: lose the World Cup and then lull all your opponents into a false sense of security going into the next season.
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
ek sien wallabie praat darem met aidoc/tackler.kom ons hou dit so manne, ignoreer.ek kyk al vh1 se eigties vireos.
25 Apr 2007, 17:56 pm
Hierdie lyk soos die o/19 final vs die Aussies en die bestuur was baie tevrede met die performance daar?
25 Apr 2007, 17:57 pm
Cab 565
easy now!!!
It is a good holiday.
25 Apr 2007, 17:57 pm
Impala 564
Sure….I believe that, in any sporting code, you select your captain after you have announced your starting team.
The captain can never reside in an ivory tower of sport. He should not be treated special when it comes to selection.
That is just my opinion. I know that it probably cannot apply to the era of professional sport. But it certainly is a pitfall of global games.
25 Apr 2007, 17:58 pm
Cab,
I suggest you have a trip on google before you say something insulting that you may well regret. It may be a non-event to you, but to many families who lost husbands, brothers, fathers etc. down under, it certainly isn’t.
25 Apr 2007, 17:58 pm
Congrats Proteas! Egoli is starting and you are still in! You exceeded my expectations!
25 Apr 2007, 17:58 pm
lol wallabie, must admit enjoyed your 568 – even if our noses are being forced into it at present.
25 Apr 2007, 17:58 pm
The ANZACS is in rememberance of NZ and Aus soldiers dying at gallipoli.
Proably about the same time when the english were teaching the locals in the very south of africa a lesson.
25 Apr 2007, 17:59 pm
Kom SLanka!!!! Chuck hulle stukkend – Murili! Wie’t gesê Murili chuck – noooooit!
25 Apr 2007, 17:59 pm
Seems like this will be the first thread in some time to reach 1000 posts
25 Apr 2007, 17:59 pm
Wallabie,
I guess ANZAC doesn’t really have any real meaning for you. That’s fair enough. I guess after so many years the rawness of what it represented to many would have been lost on the younger generations…
25 Apr 2007, 18:00 pm
come come stodders, put your violin away, look at their comments above mr. neutral. i suggest u re-examine that neutrality.
25 Apr 2007, 18:00 pm

Probably not Willie – The aussies wil get the runs in no time…
25 Apr 2007, 18:00 pm

Wonder how many F$%^ SMITH comments there will be….
25 Apr 2007, 18:02 pm
568. Whatever turns you on. I have seen Taylors Square and Oxford Street, where I believe your coach is searching for a front row. Probably will come up with Dikes on Bikes, the real men of Australia.
25 Apr 2007, 18:02 pm
Fern
I will speak to you tomorrow because there are some sensible people here.
It is about your cricket team.
25 Apr 2007, 18:02 pm
Ons moet die coach en kaptein fire – aka G Smith – hy’s mos sommer altwee.
MA sit net die stoel vol – hy kannie afrig om sy lewe te red nie.!!
25 Apr 2007, 18:02 pm
568. Did you watch 4Corners this week?
25 Apr 2007, 18:03 pm
Cab,
Fair enough…
25 Apr 2007, 18:03 pm
stodders,
there’s very little google can teach me about gallipoli, i saw mel gibson’s take on it, who followed it up with cinematic masterpieces like braveheart and the patriot – for some reason the poms are always the bad fellas.
25 Apr 2007, 18:04 pm
Fern is not a sensible person. First he called me a Chink then Tackler, whatever that means.
Fern is a pretend Kiwi.
25 Apr 2007, 18:04 pm
Eishhh – die reenboognasie kry pak.
25 Apr 2007, 18:04 pm
Smith after the game:
“I think it’s better for us to have lost this World Cup than to have won it. I think this experience will teach us to handle pressure situations better, and I’m not sure we would have gained that valuable experience with silverware in the trophy cabinet. I kind of feel sorry for the Australians who have won everything so comfortably, and don’t know what it’s like to be under pressure.”
25 Apr 2007, 18:04 pm
wallabie, you speaking to me?think I give a **** if you speak to me or not?prefer it when you dont.

25 Apr 2007, 18:07 pm
Fern knows bugger all and he does not even know how to banter. probably because he knows bugger all.
25 Apr 2007, 18:07 pm
cab,
That’s because in those times the Poms were a pretty bad bunch. But no more so than previous dominant empires I suppose.
I always thought the best abd guys were the Saffas in Lethal Weapon 2
25 Apr 2007, 18:07 pm

25 Apr 2007, 18:08 pm
Graeme Smith won the toss and decided to bat first on a pitch he knew would offer the bowlers something early on.
25 Apr 2007, 18:08 pm
fours coming now … 170 on the cards willievz !!!
25 Apr 2007, 18:09 pm
THUMP!
25 Apr 2007, 18:09 pm
stodders,
ah lethal weapon 2, every foreigner worth his salt either does the ‘blick’ accent or asks if we all have flamethrowers on our cars.
eh, must check the score, think we might be competitive with 120 on the board.
25 Apr 2007, 18:10 pm
Smith after the game:
“I think it’s fantastic that we have lost so badly in the World Cup semifinals because that has left so much room for improvement. Now we don’t have to worry about being under pressure for the next four years, and can slowly improve our game. We can then proceed to loose the 2011 WC as well, which will further conceal the value and talent that we have in our team, and cause other teams to underestimate us.
“I feel sorry for Australia. No one underestimates them anymore, and after this WC peformance, they have no more room for improvement. They have nothing to aspire to now, nothing to look forward to, and in each match from now on they will be under the weight of so much expectation…
“I really feel sorry for them.”
25 Apr 2007, 18:10 pm
613 fern,
los maar die filistyn.
25 Apr 2007, 18:11 pm
I wonder if the French play cricket…..
25 Apr 2007, 18:11 pm
609. Well we agree about something.
610. The blonde one?
Quote from “The Cruel Sea”; “You think I know bloody nothing. But I tell you I know bugger all”. Allegedly spoken by a Soviet soldier on the wharf.
25 Apr 2007, 18:11 pm
cab,
And don’t forget the “Seth Efrican” accent
I see there are a fair few movies being produced with a sOuth Africa flavour these days. They aren’t very sympathetic to the white man. History has a habit of painting those in power as the oppressors. Muchy like the English were portrayed as complete devils because of the actions of a few.
25 Apr 2007, 18:12 pm
Fern
You a saffa going by the name of a kiwi. We call these type of people cowards because you cannot make a stand.
I bet ya you tell all your kiwi friends you support NZ and here you pull on the saffa team shirt.
You crack me up…get a spine!
25 Apr 2007, 18:12 pm
Aai dit gaan nou seker onpatrioties klink…

We got 120…next milestone 130, then 140….
170 here we come!
25 Apr 2007, 18:14 pm
Why don’t they declare so they can get the Aussies in on this pitch?
25 Apr 2007, 18:14 pm
yeah, we’re on a plan. That Smith is a crafty bugger …. threw a few wickets to make Aus think they got it under control !
25 Apr 2007, 18:14 pm
Smith after the game:
“This performance puts us firmly under the radar – and that’s where we want to be.”
25 Apr 2007, 18:15 pm

anyway, lets hope saffa pulls one over those oppresive sheep-knobbers…a 434 result in reverse, come on, the script is setup for some mamoth chocking…
25 Apr 2007, 18:16 pm
Fark … that wind is coming again … i suppose Hayden is standing near the pitch again?

25 Apr 2007, 18:18 pm
Do you know how they spell sheep in Golbourn ?(That’s where the “Big Merino”, a Spanish sheep, is)
They put it down the back paddock and don’t shag it for a month.
25 Apr 2007, 18:19 pm
think the fat lady just let off a wind … breeze is blowing again !
25 Apr 2007, 18:19 pm
Look at it this way – we only have india (125) and aus (129) to overtake as the best lowest (eh?) wcc score ever. (per cricinfo)
Any consolation? Will keep me interested for another 7 runs any way.
25 Apr 2007, 18:19 pm
Hey nou posts almal minder/stadiger – go BIG or go home!!
25 Apr 2007, 18:19 pm

A 434 score in reverse is still 434.
25 Apr 2007, 18:21 pm

Kan daai Ausies dannie boul nie?
25 Apr 2007, 18:21 pm
Smith after the game:
“This is the greatest underdog performance I’ve ever been involved in, and I’m really proud of the guys. Everyone loves an underdog, and nothing confirms our underdog status like our performance today. I just can’t believe how happy I am.”
25 Apr 2007, 18:23 pm
Graeme smith after the game
“where is minky?” “Why did she leave?”
25 Apr 2007, 18:23 pm
Walla … guess you’d know that.
thecentre, think 93 in a semi was the lowest : England to Aus.
Well, right now that Aus 111 all out will do it for us, so from here on, we’re in the lead !
25 Apr 2007, 18:23 pm
wallabie, such subtle mindfiddling is out of character.

25 Apr 2007, 18:25 pm
Smith after the game:
Australia may have beaten us today
but I have only one thing to say to them
We are the champions my friend
And we’ll keep on fighting ’till the end (tears streaming from his eyes)
We are the champions, we are the champions…
Team psychologist drags him away.
25 Apr 2007, 18:25 pm
How do you manage to be rated as the best one day team in the world and only manage to play like it on the odd occassion.
25 Apr 2007, 18:25 pm
Right it is time for bed.
Hopefully I wont wake up to us having lost the game.
25 Apr 2007, 18:26 pm
Nel has faced 36 balls for his 7 runs.
Not his job to bat.
If that is not fighting spirit I do not know.
25 Apr 2007, 18:26 pm
655 Impala
cause we were no 1 only on the odd occasion.

I hope your TV is better now. We at least can steal satellite TV, except for cricket channels.
I watched the Australian Network (aka ABC) tonight (4Corners). It is a real shame that Aussie and Limey reporters cannot pronounce Beijing or Wen Jia Bao. But I am now watching a replay of NZ b BIL which I recorded a couple of years ago. No matter how often I watch, the Kiwis are too good, even with Australian and Israeli referees.

Smith after the game:
“I think we can be proud of the fact that we are the best unssuccessful World Cup team in the world. No other team has been so unssuccessful during the World Cup, and been so successful the rest of the time. We wouldn’t have wanted to go on to win the WC, and destroy our proud record. I think that would just have been stupid.”

660 Fern,
Ander manier is die foelie manier maar nie so lekker vir my nie.

Fern, ek sou hom net-so gaarmaak.

I honestly think that the Australians are going to lose. They are going to get nervous when they realise they’re chasing such a small total, and they are going to completely collapse. The Australians only know how to score a lot of runs. They don’t know how to score a small amount of runs.
That must obviously have been Mickey Arthur’s plan going into the match.
25 Apr 2007, 18:41 pm

I got my masters degree in Melbourne before going to Duke and UCLA for my PhD’s. I love cricket and rugby. They are sporting with few perforance enhancing substances.. if you accept Grogan’s caffeine. Basketball (Yao Ming is a saint) is almost as boring as baseball (Go Yankees) and NFL (Go Cougars and 69ers) I also love the AFL (Go Blues) which is also known as knock on football.

Breaking news: LOL suckers South Africa!
The popula television program, Laugh Out Loud, have pulled off their biggest prank yet. They have suckered the whole South African public into watching an underperforming South African cricket team bow out of the World Cup.
Smith after the game:
“Man, you guys completely fell for it. We nailed you good and proper. I can’t believe you guys actually thought we were going to try to win the World Cup. You should have known that South African teams historically try to underperform during the WC. This competition is a non-event, really.”
Smith beamed as Pollock ran up to hand the trademark LOL lollipop to bemused looking journalists.

I had a wonderful professor at Duke. Marty Groeder. He could not complete a sentence without saying f..k. What a man! Volunteered for prison service to escape Vietnam and he made a difference. He made so many prisoners see a better way of life that they sacked him. They were scared that they would all be out of work.

25 Apr 2007, 18:52 pm
Watson to Kemp, 1 run, driven straight to Tait at long-on, it went high but right to him. he caught it , dropped it, juggled the rebound before ending up in a big heap with the ball next to him.
Has he just dropped the World Cup.

710. Truth is stranger than propaganda? Mao said that he who controls propaganda controls the world. But first power comes from the barrel of a gun. Obviously he had never met Rupert Murdoch. His concubine is so hot.
Great revolutionary but hopeless ruler.. He smoked cigarettes that cost 200 rmb a packet. In Shaghai cigarettes cost from 1.3 RMB for 20RMB. Mine cost 7.5 RMB. $1 USD is 7.8RMB and falling.
The average income in China is about $1,000 a year and 3.3 times the country wage in the city. As 2/3 live in the country this is hard for most.
Being a prof I can cheat like hell, according to western ethics, but nor ours, and I make more that $3,000,000 USD a year from dodgey (western thinking) ventures. I don’t accept bribes, only commissions and directors fees.
PS An American film on DVD costs $0.40 here. A blank disk costs more.
MS Office costs 5 RMB or $0.40 USD. Beats paying $1,500 AUD doesn’t it?

I think the best strategy to win is to lull them into a false sense of security by letting them score their first 100 runs in ten overs. Then they’ll panic when they see that they don’t have much runs left to score. They’ll choke – guaranteed.
There are others who will say that to defend 149 you just have to play extremely well and be extremely lucky, and that strategy is largely irrelevant. Don’t believe them. They’re a bunch of retards.

778. Ya zi? In China the meat allegedly from sheep is often from goats. (The word for sheep and goat is the same in Chinese). I sometimes have NZ rack of lamb, which costs about $20 USD but it is often from Mongolia and not so tasty. NZ lamb is almost as good as Argentinian beef but NZ honey is the bees knees.
You must try da bin jia niu rou which is better than lebanese version. A bit like Peking duck but with beef.
If you write to me at ruisheng224 at hotmale *** I will send it in Chinese so you can take an order to a real Chinese restaurant. You may also like gung bao ji ding which most westerners like (Chicken with peanuts and chilli)
25 Apr 2007, 19:41 pm
All Aus have to do is , smash a few 4′s in the first 5 overs , then watch the RpO figures turn in their favour …

25 Apr 2007, 19:44 pm
Our problem is we fawn over our sportspeople like superior beings, but the ANZACS are wedded to the “tall poppy” syndrome and keep them cut down to being human.
As much as I couldn’t bear to live in a Nanny State like Ozzie, they’re dead right in that aspect.
Graeme Smith needs to be fired as captain and a velskoen suppository Frans Steyn drop-kicked up his 0.
His Mickey Mouse winkie-wipe must go too, and a no-nonsense coach must be brought in to teach our little Protea darlings all about “pressure”.
Then maybe they’ll play they’ll be able to play frontline cricket.
25 Apr 2007, 19:45 pm
Did someone say chicken?
25 Apr 2007, 19:45 pm
PS MSG is not bad for you. It is a CIA plot to balance the inefficient American farming industry trade deficit.
I am an asthmatic, well who wouldn’t be with this air, and it does not hurt me. Mind you I smoke because it is the only way I can can get reasonably clean air. Those filters are cool. South Carolina invention?

Graeme Smith was in a reflective mood during the post-match press conference:
“The fact is we were well beaten. Australia had our number from beginning to end.”
Smith finally admitted, “we were beaten fair and square by an inferior team on the day.
“There won’t be any whining and complaining. We just didn’t play well enough. Australia really strutted their stuff, and sometimes it doesn’t matter how inferior you are, you are going to win if you play better than your opponents.
“We definitely had the players to win today,” continued Smith. “But I’m not going to say what if this person didn’t underperform and that person didn’t underperform. I’m just going to accept the fact that we were beaten fair and square by an inferior team.”
Smith continued by saying he expected his team to retain the top spot on the ICC rankings “with ease.”

801. Actually I think my Kiwi professor friend met Francois three years ago. He lives in Shenzhen, which is a long way from here and he is from the RSA.
Francois has not written back to him since he suggested the Springbok captain lacked skills and ethics and could eventually take Eddies job as chief whinger of Australia. I remember it so well. Francois got annoyed when the Prof suggested that the RSA team was going ok except for passing catching, tackling, running, kicking, and playing fairly.

what Im meaning is , the SA team & managemnt was going on and on abut being #1 and that as #1, we’r the favourites, we’r the best side in the world , this and that …
then the constant reference to THAT 437 GAME(Oh WOW..conviently forgetting we only JUST won the that series, were trounced in the Pro 20′s and 3-0 in the tests …. 437 is an isolated case )
Instead of , pointing out that Aus had a blip and we’re still very much THE TEAM to beat
we needed to focus and admit our short comings and adjust our exspectations accordinlgy

25 Apr 2007, 20:07 pm
Actually I believe that Ranking No 1 is better than winning a WC lottery. To be No 1 you must be consistent, even when there are Australian umpires involved. Although it must be those who can perform under pressure who prevail. Like Susie.
The WC is just a tournament.
Susie. Susie…. and I don’t mean Nancy Kwan, whom I admit used to be hot.
Tell me guys. Do you think that Lucy Liu is hot? We Chinese don’t think so. But our education system is not so hot. We think that David Beckham is hot.
25 Apr 2007, 20:08 pm

She was hot, 4 years ago … ut that chick from Crouching Tiger / Rush Hour II / New Jet lee movie /Kill Bill movies is HOt .. dont know her name ..
I also agree, being # genrally is good, Im cool with winning a henk of a lot of matches inbetwwen tournements , but I want the trophies as well ..
The All Blacks, no one can argue are the greatest franchise/Team in World Rugby .. hands down ..
Home/Away Wins ratio , Tri Nations, Friendlys etc etc
but winning the RWC again is realy the CROWN of it all ..
so yeah .. its best to do both at the end of the day ..
eg: Brazil(#1 for many years) and 5 Soccer World Cups
25 Apr 2007, 20:17 pm

Smith: “We won’t choke again.”
At the post-match press conference, Graeme Smith was defiant.
“Today we have absolutely demolished the chokers tag. I have strong message to the rest of my team mates, our choking days are over. I am very much tired of the choking, and from this day forward, we will always play to our potential.
“In this particular tournament we had lapses against teams like the West Indies and England. But from this day forward, we will over-perform again.
“Today we have set the standard. We have set the bar low, and we don’t ever intend on falling above that level.”

25 Apr 2007, 20:24 pm
hang onto the belief of an unlikely collapse now !
25 Apr 2007, 20:26 pm
This is exactly as I thought. Australia can’t help but score lots of runs. They’re only good at that, and can’t score at a slow rate. Their inablity to score a small amount of runs will be their undoing.
25 Apr 2007, 20:28 pm
YESSS NELLAAA!
25 Apr 2007, 20:29 pm

25 Apr 2007, 20:37 pm

25 Apr 2007, 20:39 pm
Need to get Hayden out, to have ANY chance!!
25 Apr 2007, 20:40 pm
Has Australia’s bottom 3 even batted in any of the WC matches??
25 Apr 2007, 20:41 pm
No, scar, they have not, and they probably will not.
25 Apr 2007, 20:42 pm

You’re right scar. Getting Hayden out is our only chance of losing by 7 wickets.
25 Apr 2007, 20:42 pm
Wait for the finaL. Go Sri Lanka
25 Apr 2007, 20:43 pm

25 Apr 2007, 20:46 pm
Sri Lanka has never beaten South Africa in a WC final either!!!
25 Apr 2007, 20:46 pm
Reds won the toss~
25 Apr 2007, 20:49 pm
Graeme Smith at the post-match press conference:
“This is the best performance I have been involved in. I know the result is dissapointing, and you guys may not have realised how good the performance was. On television you can’t always tell how hard players are working, and boy did the guys work hard today.
“I’m just so proud of they guys for their gutsy effort today. There was just so much skill and brillian stroke play. And that wicket from Nel, did you see THAT wicket. It was truly a masterpiece. I must say I was very impressed.”
Smith said that a lot of hard work lay ahead for the team after being knocked out of the world cup, but that right now he was just focusing on the parade.
“We really need to get ready for that. There will be a lot of people that want to welcome us home, and celebrate with us after, what I think, was a special WC performance.”
25 Apr 2007, 20:49 pm
jene aidoc/tackler ek sien jy het n lang gesprek met jouself gehad.aag shame eensame/siek p**ss.

25 Apr 2007, 20:50 pm
AUstralia has never beaten South Africa in a semi-final either
25 Apr 2007, 20:50 pm

Which will make today’s result all the more surprising.
25 Apr 2007, 20:54 pm
F this. I’m going to start watching baseball from now on…..
25 Apr 2007, 20:55 pm
The South African baseball team is almost as successful in big competitions as the cricket team, so that’s probably a good call.
25 Apr 2007, 20:56 pm
As long was we retain our number one spot in the world rankings, I am satisfied. The statisticians can’t be wrong, can they?
25 Apr 2007, 20:57 pm
After today’s peformance I’m sure retaining number 1 on the rankings will be all to easy.
25 Apr 2007, 20:59 pm
#909, Lost that number 1 spot two weeks ago china. Plus, Aus actually are a better side than us. The scoreline is an accurate indication of the psychological difference between the two sides.
Nauseates me to say it, but its sickeningly true..
Chelsea vs Liverpool 0-0
25 Apr 2007, 21:02 pm
907
From the one-dimensional to the soul-destroying
25 Apr 2007, 21:02 pm
we’ve lost the number 1 spot a long time ago…
25 Apr 2007, 21:03 pm
Well, number 2 is not too bad.
25 Apr 2007, 21:06 pm
How pathetic can 11 men (mice) be
I hate this losing feeling
Aidoc have you got space in your building for me?
25 Apr 2007, 21:07 pm
Australia aren’t even halfway yet. I bet they’re going to start panicking. If they keep going like this they’re only going to win by 20 overs. I’m sure that would be devastating to Australian morale.
25 Apr 2007, 21:07 pm
JL1,
Like I said before, this is how Eng supporters must feel like!!
25 Apr 2007, 21:07 pm
907 They have always said that cricket is baseball on Prozac
25 Apr 2007, 21:09 pm
Scar this is pathetic
I would hate to be part of the English set up
25 Apr 2007, 21:10 pm
Headlines , Gream bedank as kaptein, Yippeeeee
25 Apr 2007, 21:10 pm
man, this is going down fast!
How can the pitch change so much in the lunch break?!
25 Apr 2007, 21:11 pm
Hoekom praat julle engels vanaand , almal gesuip ?
25 Apr 2007, 21:11 pm
Graeme Smith can remain captain, but then Rassie Erasmus has to make decisions on bowling and field placements with his disco lights.
25 Apr 2007, 21:11 pm
See JL1, something to feel positive about!!
25 Apr 2007, 21:12 pm

Andre
Your headline is not gonna happen, the systems sucks canal water
Smith will be there and more players will play for England (ough the thought sends shivers down my spine)
25 Apr 2007, 21:12 pm
922
I can only speak English when I am sober. Lack of reasons to drink…
25 Apr 2007, 21:13 pm
Ek kyk eerder Egoli en Binnelanders wat ek getype het. Wie wil sulke krieket kyk. Useless bunch , miskien het hulle te min gedop
25 Apr 2007, 21:13 pm
Rassie’s job will also be to motivate and inspire players with the use of aesthetically effective lighting combintions.
25 Apr 2007, 21:13 pm
#923
I like that
What will Rassie do with a powerplay
25 Apr 2007, 21:14 pm
JL1 , asb , Gream is the worst captain this country have produce. He’s useless and we all know it. Sorry don’t want to jump down your trout but he’s not a captain.
25 Apr 2007, 21:14 pm
Chelsea and Liverpool r going to score more goals tonight than the Aussies’ wickets lost.
Goal Chelsea!!!!!
25 Apr 2007, 21:15 pm
as ek maar net SKY gehad het kon ek ten minste krieket gekyk het
25 Apr 2007, 21:16 pm
Andre dont get me wrong I have met this little a-hole. He is arrogant and clueless
25 Apr 2007, 21:16 pm
I could never support a team with the name liver-pool. That’s a bit too uncultured to my tastes.
25 Apr 2007, 21:16 pm
#932
Agree.
25 Apr 2007, 21:18 pm
It all those little things that killed us:
1. Terrible inconsistency of our opening batsmen.
2. Pollock’s perfect line and length is no longer respected.
3. Am I wrong or was Ntini regarded as the best bowler in the world a couple of months ago.
4. It seems that whenever Graeme Smith fails the entire team follows suite.
5. The stupid decisions our captain and the rest of the senior players make.
25 Apr 2007, 21:18 pm
#936 What about ars-enal
25 Apr 2007, 21:18 pm
dunno why guys, but i’ve got a feeling we may loose this one
25 Apr 2007, 21:18 pm
If it wasn’t for Graeme Smith, then de Villiers, Gibbs, Boucher, Prince, Pollock, Hall, Langeveldt, and Nel would all have batted much better. I agree totally.
25 Apr 2007, 21:19 pm
farking aussies … so useless, they can’t even collapse
25 Apr 2007, 21:20 pm
Gream must do the best thing in life , retire from all sorts of Cricket ! finish and klaar. This was the last time we had to win this CW. Remember guys , next year all south african teams will be 30-70 , 30 white and 70 other colour
25 Apr 2007, 21:21 pm
Scar, vandag kan jy goed voel dat jy nie Sky het nie. Glo my, jy wil nie hierdie masssacre sien nie.
25 Apr 2007, 21:21 pm
Thank god walla is not here tonight.
25 Apr 2007, 21:21 pm
maybe the WC would be remembered for Halls 4 wickets in 4 balls in the Final…. Cheez, I am trying, I am trying.. .. where did the straws go??
25 Apr 2007, 21:22 pm
944
esp. dit is net so erg om dit te luister
25 Apr 2007, 21:22 pm
Only 149 runs? Not very good, was it? And this from a side “all fired up” for the match of their lives?
Smurf is a mere kortbroek cricket captain on a good day. On a day like today he’s all mouth and absolutely zero trousers!
Well, you can’t say I didn’t warn you this would be the outcome!
25 Apr 2007, 21:23 pm
walla was here earlier … lost interest
25 Apr 2007, 21:23 pm
Aaaw this isn’t fair. For the Protea’s match fee can the Ozzie batsmen tie one hand behind their backs?

25 Apr 2007, 21:27 pm
To have any Smit/Smith as captain doesnt work for our sport.
25 Apr 2007, 21:28 pm
After this no-show captaincy dear Graeme won’t even get laid by tannie Evita, never mind long gone Minki.
25 Apr 2007, 21:29 pm
Just who did you warn now Tackles? We all have wise warnings in hindsight….
25 Apr 2007, 21:30 pm
I just successfully chased 150 on http://www.stickcricket.com. It reminded me of how feeble the Proteas are. If Australia doesn’t beat them, atleast I did.
25 Apr 2007, 21:31 pm
Idiot!! So, gaan hierdie nou bydra tot ons reputasie as chokers?

25 Apr 2007, 21:42 pm

25 Apr 2007, 21:43 pm
I don’t think the US would beat Al Queda at cricket. It would be a great way to relieve bin Laden’s testosterone levels.

25 Apr 2007, 21:45 pm

Quite frankly, no…
A Malinga stunt is possible, but not with 7 wickets remaining.
We should have applied pressure at 1/1.
Die Currie Cup kom weer boys. Moenie huil nie. En moenie treur nie.

you guys forgot McGrath. can’t stand the bugger but you gotta give him credit…most wickets in the world cup in his swansong tournament – not a bad feat. Was kinda hoping for the same from Pollock, the world’s best pre-WC. WTF was I thinking???
25 Apr 2007, 22:11 pm
1 run needed.
guess its done then.. Well played Aus, you outplayed SA completely.
25 Apr 2007, 22:13 pm
Congrats Australia, good one Wallabie, you guys have been most consistent for the tournament !
25 Apr 2007, 22:14 pm
GIVE THE AUSSIES PROPS!!! THEY DESERVE IT!!!! SA ARE GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE AUSSIES…THEY KNOW HOW TO ADAPT TO DIFFERENT SITUATIONS AND JUST VERY POOR PLANNING ….SA WAS THE ONLY TOP TEAM WITHOUT A VARIANCE BOWLING ATTACK….OUT OF THE TOP 6 TEAMS SA WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH ONE STYLE BOWLERS….WE DESERVE…JENNINGS FOR COACH!!!!!JENNINGS WAS SPOT ON… I GUESS MICKEY DOES NT BELIEVE HORSES FOR COURSES…LET HOPE JAKE WHITE BELIEVES THAT!!!!!

25 Apr 2007, 22:21 pm
Ja F0k, if only we had strike bowlers in this coutry… but nevermind, we have four years now to build for the next WC…. This looks all too much like what I believe our Rugby WC is going to be like.

I hope Sri Lanka slaughter the Aussies the weekend. Malinga must take the top order out in one over. All decent South Africans must stand behind Sri Lanka this weekend.
25 Apr 2007, 22:38 pm
bbtb,
Front up mate. Front up.
For all your boasting prior to this game, and all you empty claims that SA were over the mental scarring from ’99, you now have mud on your face.
For all your claims that SA’s bowling attack was not one dimensional, what do you have to say for yourself now?
Out-classed, out-thought and out-played. Choking is becoming a national pastime for your cricket team.
25 Apr 2007, 22:38 pm
Kepler is cricket through and through,he is miles ahead of feartherweight Mickey Arthur, whom i remember playing cricket at Ramblers in a defence game back in the late 80`s weigh that against what Kepler and Jennings knows, after all Kepler was playing Aussie cricket and excelling as a youngster against top international sides !
25 Apr 2007, 22:39 pm
hey robo, like you, my heart is wth the boks, but the recipe is the same. We’re going to destroy the English second team and just cruise thru the 3 Nations. When the WC comes the moment will just be too big.
25 Apr 2007, 22:39 pm
smith messed it up for sa – trying to hit the 5th ball for a six – what the ****
25 Apr 2007, 22:40 pm
Factors which led to South Africa’s downfall. 1. The sacking of Ray Jennings. 2. The appointment of Smith as Captain (he does not get on with Klusener which resulted Klusener’s exit out of international cricket). 3. Not taking a decent spinner along. Why was Harris left behind!!.

The problem is that we set ourselves up to fail through our selection policy. We get excited when we win a few consecutive matches, yet we never know whether it’s our strongest team. It’s alien to Australia to lose a few matches, but we expect to lose a few now and again. At least the two best teams are in the final. For us it’s another 4 more years and another coach and selector.

25 Apr 2007, 22:46 pm
Hey Keo,
Guess you can eat your own words regarding your jibe at the Black Caps for crashing out of the semis.
25 Apr 2007, 22:47 pm
Some observations:
Graeme Smith must first learn to walk the walk before he talks the talk. He made a lot of brave noises prior to the game, none of which came to fruition. So much for claiming no longer to be chokers because they thrashed England. By highlighting this, you actually admit more than you dismiss!
SA took the wrong approach to the game. They tried to play us at our own game and failed miserably. Had they played their own game, instead of trying to take us on at our game, I suspect the game may have been a real contest.
Smith has no idea how to be innovative in the field. He is obviously not a thinking captain as he didn’t try anything innovative on the field.
SA has to develop a world class spinner. You cannot go into big games like this with little variety in your bowling attack.
SA need to develop a stronger mindset. Part of this means not trying to play like your opponent, but learning to play your own game. For example, what was Kallis thinking?
Don’t get into a verbal war if you can’t back it up on the field. It only entrenches the perceptions you are trying to avoid!
More consistency is needed-especially in the lesser games.
As I said in a previous post, Aus had to have an off day for SA to win-that was never going to happen, not on ANZAC day!
Finally, tough luck guys. There’s always 2011.
25 Apr 2007, 22:50 pm

Yes, point taken. But what is there without hope? You know as well as i do that even as an individual, respect is given to you if your national team succeeds. Man it sucks. I live in the UK and at 27 for 5 today, the poms were bashing me big time, even after we’d spanked them the other day. Huge respect last week has instantly turned to disgrace.
25 Apr 2007, 22:51 pm
Ian, glad you got that of your chest, now, go tell someone who cares.
25 Apr 2007, 22:54 pm
Ian @ 1009 : And here I though you ignored my posts!
Plenty of mud in my face though. Well done to you, we weren’t in it. Last time we were, and the one before that definitely, but not this one. Wrong plan badly executed, and not recovered.
25 Apr 2007, 22:56 pm
Gotta admit the one thing that did stand out from this tournament was that our captain leaves a lot to be desired. He was out-thought by Fleming and the Black Caps, made really stupid decisions all the way through the tourney, and JUST managed to scrape through into the semi’s, more by luck than planning.
Against the Aussies, and if we are to ever have a REAL shot at being the best in the world, we need a captain who has a thought process and bothers to plan, not just the man with the biggest mouth and false bravado who can present a face of defiance to the world. When Hansie was captain, you really got a sense that they had done their homework, and that they knew how to approach each game, and how to change their play when and if circumstances dictated it.
Hansie was no angle, but he did know his cricket, and he did do his homework.
Maybe less time in pub, and more time poring over the oppositions strengths and weaknesses, and expected field conditions, and planning?
It is time for Smith to go (as captain anyway). Maybe if his captaincy is taken away, he will return to his double century form?
25 Apr 2007, 22:56 pm
robo @ 1020 : my sympathies … btw: it helps to remind them they have the record lowest in a semi at 93 runs … worked for me anyway!
25 Apr 2007, 22:57 pm
thanks Ian – wise words indeed. I wonder if your words would be as wise if and when Oz don’t do so well at the Rugby world cup. You obviously had a point or 2 to make with such a long post. Hang on, didn’t your team win???
25 Apr 2007, 22:57 pm
esp,
If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t be on this site!
Your team was beaten by a much better team. Take on the chin. If you dish it out, you must also be able to take it.
25 Apr 2007, 23:00 pm
Ian is 100% correct, but we saffas are too bone-headed and self-glorifying over ****-all to listen and learn.
25 Apr 2007, 23:00 pm
Robo,
Quite honestly, I don’t think we have a hope in the rugby WC. Our rugby is the weakest it has been for years. We do not have the depth of NZ or SA and with so many players injured, we are in BIG trouble.
25 Apr 2007, 23:00 pm
I’m sorry Ian, but I disagree. I think South Africa was beaten by the inferior team on the day.
25 Apr 2007, 23:02 pm
Yeah Robo, sorry to hear about those blerry poms. their star bowler, Gough, was playing beach cricket while his team was going down the drain…
25 Apr 2007, 23:02 pm
Zhak,
And that kind of thinking is exactly why you haven’t won a cricket WC and we’ve won 3.
25 Apr 2007, 23:05 pm
citizenc,
speak for yourself
25 Apr 2007, 23:07 pm
esp,
Gough good but don’t think he woulda made a difference
25 Apr 2007, 23:07 pm
Ian, guess I will swallow that one. We were definitely beaten by the better team, but it sounds to me like rubbing it in is your main purpose here. If that’s the case…. Go tell someone who cares!
25 Apr 2007, 23:08 pm
Graeme and Mickey must do the honourable thing and fall on their swords now. Graeme has a future still as a batsman but his captaincy is poison. Mickey can re-invent himself as Straueli is doing.
Kallis for captain, he showed enough as a stand-in for the injured Graeme, and Ray Jennings or Omar Henry for coach.
25 Apr 2007, 23:10 pm
jeez I wish the sa team was reading this thread, all I want is to say is YOU ARE F*CKING SH*T and Mr Smith, sorry bru but Kevin Pieterson is right, you are a complete ‘tw*t’!! a while ago a friend told me how he met a young dipenaar whilst sa were on tour in australia and when asked about the thumping they were getting from Australia he admitted that they were ‘too good’ – nothing has changed.. we are in a holding pattern of KAKNESS against Oz.. the world cup is how we should measure ourselves and we have failed misserably. #1020 I agree with you, smith is ALL TALK AND NO ACTION, beat England and pump it up in the media.. nice approach you mental banana .. 1999 was bad but we were good, failing in 2003 broke me for a week, in 2007 I sneeze in their general direction.
25 Apr 2007, 23:11 pm
Ian,
Fair enough, at least you seem realistic about various country’s strengths, etc. And I am fully aware that today we weren’t only beaten by a better team team on the day but a better team full stop. Still smarts though.
25 Apr 2007, 23:15 pm
esp,
No, I’m not trying to rub it in. Right near the end of the game, I actually felt sorry for Smith, if only fleetingly. However, if SA want to win a WC, and there’s no reason why they can’t, they need to take a long deep look at themselves and make some changes.
For example, when we lost the Ashes in 05, we did some soul searching and the results since then speak for themselves.
If SA have the courage to acknowledge some of the issues, and seek to put structures in place to address them, then they can win a WC. But if it’s head in the sand, then there’s not too much hope.
25 Apr 2007, 23:15 pm
youwha
My ma knows someone who’s an anger management guru, just let me know….
25 Apr 2007, 23:18 pm
youwha,
then go support your local netball team. We need people who have something constructive to say. But I suspect that this is a painful verbal backlash from you for a totally dire performance today and on some other occasions during this world cup. Most of us feel your pain – don’t give up hope! I Don’t think you’d be here if you didn’t care.
25 Apr 2007, 23:19 pm
Why myself Robo #1032?
I learnt long ago that other people’s advice – or mistakes – are there to learn from, my life is too short to repeat that pain.
But as a proud saffa who has visited and enjoyed ozzie/nz several times, but would never want to live there, I get frustrated at the uninformed arrogance that keeps our teams from the top podium.
25 Apr 2007, 23:20 pm
Ian, well said and agreed, Like I said earlier in this thread it’s those little thing that killed us. (See 938)
25 Apr 2007, 23:22 pm
You can only get so much milage from a freakich 400+ run chase and a theoretical #1 ranking, before you have to wake up and realise your shortcomings. How thick must Smith be to shoot his mouth of all the time only to have eat humble pie afterwards?
25 Apr 2007, 23:23 pm
Robo,
I really do feel for all the SA supporters-they deserve better. They promise so much, then fail to deliver. However, I have a feeling that SA will contest the rugby WC final with France!
’99 was though and it didn’t seem right for a team to be eliminated because of a draw. The game should have been replayed.
25 Apr 2007, 23:23 pm
howzit esp, thanks but my mom always said ‘better out than in’. I have to vent, I’ve stayed up all night in Oz watching this kak, I’m tired, pissed and pissed off, cheers
25 Apr 2007, 23:26 pm
Youwha,
All the best.
25 Apr 2007, 23:27 pm
esp,
I hadn’t seen your post (#938). You make good points.
The other thing that Aus does slightly differently is that we have more straight out bowlers. I noticed that only Langeveldt and Nel were out and out bowlers, whereas for us, McGrath, Bracken, Tait & Hogg are bowlers. It does weaken out batting depth, but give the attack more firepower than having batting all rounders who bowl (e.g. Hall, Kemp & Kallis).
25 Apr 2007, 23:28 pm
Maybe Smith and Mickey Arthur can fetch Jake White some beers !
25 Apr 2007, 23:30 pm
“I know there will be a lot of disappointed people at home, but I hope that in four years’ time we can pay them back for their support.” Graeme Smith.
Is this all we can do these days – hope. Hope we make it in 4yrs, hope the AB’s implode at the WC. Can we not rather do something to effect these things rather than hoping for some kind of devine intervention?
25 Apr 2007, 23:32 pm
Smith and Mickey are too busy busy fetching beers for themselves right now – no doubt they’re paying for their own drinks tonight.
Now if someone smart (and sober) will just hire them a pedalo and point them in the general direction of SA at 4am tomorrow morning…
25 Apr 2007, 23:33 pm
I should be excited, but how can I be?? Beating a cricket minnow in a semi-final is nothing to be proud of.
25 Apr 2007, 23:34 pm
youwha, sorry man, I feel for you, but don’t worry, come the rugby wc we’ll give them hell.
25 Apr 2007, 23:38 pm

“However, I have a feeling that SA will contest the rugby WC final with France!”
Very kind of you. And I know you harbour a certain hope for OZ in the rugby. Just coz they’re your team and I for one, would never right them off, the smart buggers that you are. Who knows: Oz vs SA final? Green and gold vs Gold and green…

time to get FRESH blood in there now, who’r the guys we have coming up … is there any so called ‘black’ talent ..

I have much more hope for our rugby boks in September, Barring injuries to key players such as Schalk, AP, Frans Steyn, Fourie du Preez, Matfield etc., we’re in witha great chance.
At least Jake does learn from his errors, albeit slowly and reluctantly. Just wish he’d get over his Smittie obsession, though I suppose it’s too late now for this WC.
So embarrassing when Bismarck comes on for Smittie and adds so much value.
25 Apr 2007, 23:56 pm
yeah, I just sit back and laugh sometimes…had to get a little involved tonight. So much hope yet so much disappointment…

Good morning and congratulations to Australia.
Well called, Ian, and enjoy the moment, best wishes for the final.
At least this time rund, there can be no arguing and gnashing of teeth, with neither rain nor a brain explosion leading to our exit.
This time, the harsh reality is that we were comprehensively beaten by a considerably better side.
One side walked the talk, the other continued talking, froze in the advancing headlights.
Again, our inconsistency was a feature.
Ah well, enjoy yourselves, Australia.
Fellow saffas, while it’s no time for recriminations, if anything good is to come from this, we need to learn the harsh lessons.
We need to pick genuine one-day sides, we need to find variety in our attack, we need a spinner of some note, and we need a decent coach if we’re to persist with a greenhorn captain.
Anyone placed the call to Duncan Fletcher yet?
No?
Why am I not surprised?
Cheers
26 Apr 2007, 00:12 am
Thanks Joe, tough luck. I suspect our roles will be reversed come the rugby WC
What makes SA’s situation even more difficult is that they cannot pick their best team due to AA.
They need a captain in the mould of Hansie (except for his betting). Graeme Smith does not cut it. He has a lot to say before games, but does not consistently back it up on the field. Until he can, he should learn to keep his mouth shut.
There must be a better coach than Arthur?
26 Apr 2007, 00:19 am
keo, bru, great webpage, seriously. fantastic. mba from harvard, no jokes, and your webpage among the best compared to anything.
26 Apr 2007, 00:20 am
well done aus. did anyone actually expect us to win?
the manner of defeat is a pity though. we cant be too harsh on the team. aus were just better in every department. there is no shame in losing to a better team.
26 Apr 2007, 00:20 am
Congrats Ian, great performance by your team ably assisted by a SA team doing their utmost to yet again talk the talk but not being able to deliver…
26 Apr 2007, 00:21 am
Oh and Joe, the needs that you listing above, how many has changed in the last…oh say 6 years?!
26 Apr 2007, 00:22 am
Thanks Koos,
I was disappointed that SA didn’t perform better. They’re a better team than their loss today. I feel for the SA supporters. Another disappointment-they deserve more, especially from a team that promised so much, but delivered so little.
There’s always the rugby WC
26 Apr 2007, 00:23 am
Graeme Smith not a bad player but bad captain we need someone more humble not quite sure who though!
26 Apr 2007, 00:26 am
Morning Ian
The irony is that an exceptional young black spinner, Thandi Tshabalala, and an experienced and useful “black” batsman, JP Duminy, were left at home (as were Johan van der Wath, Lance Klusener etc).
Also Omar Henry, the first “black” spinner to play for SA and a disciplinarian coach (and ex-selector)could justifiably coach the team.
But I suspect SA cricket politics is complex and these personalities/players aren’t currently “in” with the powers that be.
Africa is a continent with a history of rule through patronage, and I gather that our SA cricket is no different, which obviously keeps our best side from ever being assembled. Young Graeme seems to have inordinate influence – but don’t ask me why!?
26 Apr 2007, 00:32 am
citizenc,
It seems crazy to leave behind an exceptional young spinner-as the saying goes, “if he’s good enough, he’s old enough.” Petersen was never going to cut it. They should have gambled as we did with Tait.
26 Apr 2007, 00:40 am
Tshabalala will probably walk into the SA pro20 squad for that “World Cup” later this year, based on his performances through the season. Rather sad he wasn’t given the opportunity earlier. Peterson is brave but just isn’t up to it (like a million amateurs like me
)
Tait was magnificent to watch – what a replacement for McGrath!

Wifey is complaining and the boerboel starting to **** and snore, so I’m out of here for tonight.
Congratulations Ozzie for a thorough victory, but I am rooting for Sri Lanka on Saturday.
26 Apr 2007, 00:54 am
Citizenc, I can understand you farting but how do you get the snores in whilst blogging?
26 Apr 2007, 01:09 am
Go back and read the first 20 posts on this marathon thread and laugh at the rubbish spoken!
26 Apr 2007, 01:43 am
Tackler are you a fluffer ?
26 Apr 2007, 01:47 am

Hoezit!
Kakkerige krieket, ek se. (Dis apartheid se skuld!)
Bokker dit, ons kyk maar rugby verder.
26 Apr 2007, 02:17 am
More Pete and wp, lekker kuk game this morning! I made a point of not getting my hopes up thorughout the tournament and I think I did well, still does not make the loss any nicer…
26 Apr 2007, 02:39 am
Tickler, at least the first 20 had guts to post instead of hiding away until it’s all in the bag as ‘others’ do!
26 Apr 2007, 02:41 am
Morning Koos
Yip, disappointment.
We have to gun for the rugga now.
26 Apr 2007, 03:09 am
I warned you all WEEKS ago that the Aussies would wipe the floor with SA! Exactly what happened!
And I’ll tell you now that NZ will win the RWC final and that they won’t be playing the Boks in that game.
26 Apr 2007, 03:16 am
Well Tackles, no surprises in anything you say…really. If the ABs’ do manage to fark it up though(and past history tells us it is very possible) I hope you will still be around.
26 Apr 2007, 04:04 am
This will help the typical Aussie sports fan forget that rugby exists. Aussie TV will aslo show 1000 hours of cricket coverage/discussions this week and only briefly comment on the rugby and any other sport they are not winning.
Losers!
26 Apr 2007, 04:08 am
chch
Maybe they won’t have much coverage, after the final!!!
26 Apr 2007, 04:10 am
chch, they don’t show a lot of rugby fullstop
26 Apr 2007, 04:16 am
Ah chch do you live in our wonderful country then? Isn’t it a marvellous day?
26 Apr 2007, 04:20 am
Koos I’ve spoken to you before about how you are in denial about your love for all things Gold and your secret desire to let rip a few Aussi, Aussi, Aussi … Oi Oi Oi’s. With the Saffa’s gone, you can now embrace the glorious gold!
26 Apr 2007, 04:24 am
Alas, time for a new cricket captain.
26 Apr 2007, 04:38 am
Smith is such a dumb **** bag.
Always shooting off his big mouth, and never dilivering, and have eat humble pie over and over again.
It puts unnecessary pressure on the rest of the team and the rest is history.
As they say, the fish rots from the head….
26 Apr 2007, 04:38 am
Clyde you muppit, you forgot about the green in front of the gold yet again!!!
Anyway, this game called ‘cricket’, what is it all about, can you tell me a little more Clyde…? Don’t know much about it…
26 Apr 2007, 04:38 am
Hi Koos and Clyde, latest news boys, Reds to to keep most of their tight Five, good news,
as for the cricket, i can’t say its my No1 sport but when that team gets into the grove its not a ? if they will win or not but by how much, and thats with Warne out.
Sri Lanka are going down big time
26 Apr 2007, 04:40 am
Shellby, just got it, its a vicious circle, his poor form as captain is because of his weight problem, his weight problem in turn is due to all the humble pie he eats, he eats all the humble pie because of his poor form…and so it carries on!
26 Apr 2007, 04:42 am
SAus, all made undone by the news that they will also keep their coach…
26 Apr 2007, 04:44 am
Oh as for the final, I will not put the house on the Aussies but they will be the better bet you have to think. Having said that you take SL to light at your own peril. They have been quietly getting the needed results to get them to the final and the Super 8 game left Oz with nothing to go on. Lets hope for an enjoyable and close final…
26 Apr 2007, 05:57 am
it not about drafting young players its finding the right balance of bringing new players with a mentorship program…….. protea’s should pick a coach first , then the captain not the other way round. ..bringing jet!!!!!! and let him bring neil mc kenzie!!!
26 Apr 2007, 06:10 am
I can’t see Sri Lanka knocking off Aus. The Aus momentum is just too great. Sri Lanka’s biggest hope is their chukka (Murali).
I think Aus will win the final comfortably.
26 Apr 2007, 06:22 am
Ian, that is the way it looks but beware old Slinga Malinga Vaas, they do damage when least expected…
26 Apr 2007, 06:24 am
Oh…’and Vaas’
26 Apr 2007, 06:44 am
SAussie it is indeed very good news about the Reds. If it came to a choice I would rather Horwill than Mcmenimem, I think the latter is just too injury prone to produce any kind of consistent excellence, but Horwill has the potential to be world class.
Re the cricket, Aus confidence is sky high and that will set them well if things get tight/start of wrong in the final. I look forward to reading the surge of joy from all you lovers of Australian cricket on this site should we win.
26 Apr 2007, 07:10 am
morning all.
this is the first 1000+ thread in months. look, the proteas were shocking. they tried to emulate the aussie gameplan from the round-robin match where the aussies targeted the new ball bowlers esp. shaun pollock. but this was a different type of pithc and a different occasion. it called for circumspection. the stage was too big to be charging the new ball. what it called for was for the batsmen to play themselves in as we saw with the innings from clarke, hayden and kemp.
the captain graeme smiff set a bad example. a really wild shot that started the rot. and as for jacques kallis, this is a low in his career. the media has “got” him. the incessant criticism has caused him to crack and play a game that he is not accustomed to. it all started in that match against australia earlier in the WC. since then all his dismissals and actual style of play have been out of character.
there are a few options. accelerate the exit of the over 30 club (pollock, kallis, boucher, gibbs), or hire a new coach amongst other options. smith is not a great leader. look at past WC winning captains-they were all tough ******** e.g imran khan, steve waugh, ranatunga, the WI guy (clive something). compared to these guys, grame smith is a schoolboy.
mickey arthur has hit his ceiling.
we need some out and out quicks and 15 years after re-admission we still haven’t produced a world-class spinner. and transformation has faltered as evidenced by the fact that makhaya ntini was the only black african member of the squad.
there’s plenty of work to be done. panicking won’t help.
the real problem is that a lot of the aussie greats are about to retire. so aus will be forced to field the next generation. the q. for us is who are the next generation of proteas. i bet the aussies have identified their new players. and we haven’t.
26 Apr 2007, 07:18 am
#1105 Clyde, glad to see you say should and not when…and of cause we will be around to spread the joy!
26 Apr 2007, 07:28 am
Well done aussies – you deserve it!
26 Apr 2007, 07:39 am
We have to enjoy the cricket Koos as I can’t really see us doing the same at the RWC. We’ll be lucky to get to the semi final on current form.
26 Apr 2007, 07:42 am
#1109,
same applies to the boks. on current form we should’nt make the semi’s. hopefully the rugby WC will be a catalyst of positive change and long-term planning for both the wallabies and the boks.
26 Apr 2007, 07:44 am
Morning folks – i need to kill this thread, it is placing to much strain on the system. Apologies
26 Apr 2007, 07:46 am
For the first time ever I will blame Smith! Has he not seen that allmost everytime he fails – the team fail! The shot he played when he lost his wicket was, given the circumstances, the worst shot I have ever seen played in a cricket match.
I think it is save to say that the Proteas are CHOKERS!
Also don’t see SL beat the Aussies in the final. The Aussies have being playing fantastic cricket and deserve to win the WC.
Have your say
