Jake calls on Britz

Western Province utility forward Gerrie Britz will join the Springboks Down Under to cover for Bob Skinstad.

The Bok captain suffered a broken rib in the 25-17 loss to Australia and will be out for the next four to six weeks. Either Jacques Cronje or Pedrie Wannenburg will move to No 8 for next week’s match against the All Blacks, with Britz likely to play off the bench.

WP coach Kobus van der Merwe has used Britz as both a lock and a loose-forward this season, and Jake White utilised the big man as a blindside flanker in the successful 2004 Tri-Nations campaign. He will provide cover in both the second and back row.

    “Utility forward”?

No Watson, thats not weird…..So loosies for Sat are 6. vHeerden, 7(8).Cronje, 8(7). Wanneburg.

vHeerden is the only acceptable player there from the 3, i’d rather fly Spies down as he sorely needs match practice at 8, id even rather get kankowski at 8, one thing that the squad does miss though is fetcher cover for vHeerden, if he get injured this week then it will be wannenburg, britz and cronje, what an average loose 3.

mmm, forgot about floors. id rather play him above cronje and wannenburg.

Can’t understand bringing in another player. Have enough loosies for one downunder and also you should replace a player with a similar player instead of a totally different one. For me, Kankowski should have been called up if anybody. Not with a view to WC selection but beyond, i.e. getting used to the professionalism etc. he is a talent to be nurtured!

Gerrie Britz……how the hell does that lummox stay in favour with JW? How could anyone pick him ahead of Kankowski, who should have been there in the first place. And I’d definitely play Floors ahead of Britz. He does nothing. Zero. Zilch. About as useless as Greg Rawlinson.

Don’t worry Ansie, I read somewhere Brits is going to France where they’ll hopefully teach him how to play.

Having watched the CC over the last week or two I would have sent Baywatch instead.

  • 10.ansie: Reply to this comment

Definitely Baywatch ahead of Britz, but seems we need a ball player, which Britz aint and Kankowski certainly is.

Baywatch is a good player!! I am not the biggest watson fan but I do have this one question. How do you pick a guy to go on tour, replace him because he is injured, then send someone else as a replacement when he has been declared fit to play????

He is cover for loosie and lock cab.

So I guess the thinking was looking at back-up for Ackers too by calling up Britz.

Apart from AJ (who is retired) there are not many players that can play both.

    And of course…

    He is already capped…

Yes PA he is, but can he fetch beers?

  • 16.PissAnt: Reply to this comment

    He is pretty quick loosehead…

I’d employ him as a barman for sure in my place!

With that kind of hairstyle I would trust him between so much alcohol.

With an average loosie pack – how in the heck are we going to play So-oily, McCaw and Collins????????????????

  • 21.upnunder: Reply to this comment

As pubnnishment for absolute stupidity Muller and Botha should alternate as flankers against NZ so Jerry and McCaw can knock some sense in.
2 yellow cards cost us that match without a doubt. Silly errors that just didn’t need to happen. We got off lightly against the Aussies I fear that this Saturday is going to be like watching JAWS on a portable dvd player on your surf board floating around seal island.

13, watson played alongside britz this weekend, not injured.

  • 24.PissAnt: Reply to this comment

    23,

And he never appeared again in the second half because of the injury that kept him at home in the first place.

  • 25.girshin: Reply to this comment

This was a great chance for JW to call up AJ Venter.Pity.

Wonder whether ole AJ will head to Europe like so many of the Bokke are plannig to.Does’nt need to I suppose with him being occupied with his various business ventures.’
