Dumond preferred at pivot

The Sharks have named Monty Dumond at flyhalf for their Currie Cup game in Kimberley this Saturday.

Brad Barritt has played at 10 in every fixture so far, but coach John Plumtree has elected to go with Dumond’s superior kicking game when they face Griquas.

Barritt is struggling with a hip injury but is expected to play at No 12 inside Waylon Murray. Grant Rees is on standby should Barritt fail to prove his fitness.

AJ Venter returns to captain the side after a rib injury and Beast Mtawarira is included in the starting line up after missing the Brakpan bout with flu. The big No 1 takes the place of Kees Lensing, who has linked up with Namibia to prepare for the World Cup.

Skipper Badenhorst will play his last game for the Sharks before he also joins Namibia, while Stefan Terblanche is rejoining the Ospreys after Saturday’s clash.

I suspect Dumond is being tried-out and that Barritt would be relieved to return to his best position. Should Dumond bear up well enough then Barritt should be allowed to fully develop in that position. The Sharks, and SA, will need Barritt to be at his best at inside centre in the future!

In truth, for the sake of SA rugby, the Sharks No 10 jersey should eventually go to Steyn. In truth it is a conundrum for the Sharks coaches that Michalak will have the inside lane to that position for the Sharks.

    horses for courses, i reckon.
kimberley is hard and dry – kicking flyhalves hold sway.
sharks gameplan with barritt at 10 is direct rugby approach, ball in hand, run ‘em silly!

Steyn is not a 10 – Looses his cool to easily. Even before last night’s game I thought Pienaar is our best option at 10 for the future. Interesting to see that Whyte recons that if he stays as Coach Pienaar would be his 10. Steyn should specialise as 15 because we do not have anybody to take over from Monty.

PS Interesting to see that Rassie does not seem to be able to draw players to Province – First Jannie Dup and now Alberts turning a cold shoulder.

Does anybody know of players who have indicated that they will be moving from one province/franchise to another internally?

What a great call….barrit is just tooooo slow for no 10…

Although Barrit had a few good breaks in the game vs the Valke…the Sharks backline had just that extra yard or two when Dumond came on…and he had a great break of his own to score under the posts….

I will play Adi at 12….or if Plumtree is concern for too much change in structure then start with Barrit at 12 with Adi comming on…

As great as the Sharks scrum was vs the Valke…is it gonna suffer vs Griekwas….
