Sharks whack Waylon
8 May 2008
Adi Jacobs will partner Frans Steyn in midfield, with Waylon Murray watching from the wood for the Sharks’ crucial match against the Cheetahs.
Sharks head coach Dick Muir has built a reputation for rotating his players and the latest move should come as no surprise to those familiar with his selection philosophy.
Jacobs, who has played the majority of the season off the bench, will front the Cheetahs in the most decisive game of the Sharks’ campaign to date. This despite their Springbok midfielder, Waylon Murray, being available for selection.
When JP Pietersen was axed for their match against the Highlanders on 11 April, Murray was utilised on the wing, with limited effect. Pietersen was then brought back for their next match, which saw Murray dropped to the bench and Steyn occupying the outside centre berth.
Murray’s form hard hardly warranted the cold sting of the axe and to see Jacobs included ahead of him in a match of this magnitude is perplexing. Murray will be joined on the bench by Brad Barritt, who has recovered from a shoulder injury, with Ruan Pienaar and Steyn forming the 10-12 axis.
The Sharks will also be without captain Johann Muller, who hasn’t recovered from a calf strain. His place in the second row will be taken by Johan Ackermann who will be partnered by Albert van den Berg, with Steven Sykes providing lock cover.
The Sharks will, however, have the services of Bismarck du Plessis, who has overcome a sternum injury. The hooker was in very good form before the injury ruined his Australasian tour and his return will bolster the side significantly.
Sharks - Stefan Terblanche, Odwa Ndungane, Adi Jacobs, Frans Steyn, JP Pietersen, Ruan Pienaar, Rory Kockett, Ryan Kankowski, AJ Venter (c), Jacques Botes, Johan Ackermann, Albert van den Berg, BJ Botha, Bismarck du Plessis, Tendai Mtawarira.
Subs: Craig Burden, Jannie du Plessis, Steven Sykes, Jean Deysel, Keegan Daniel, Brad Barritt, Waylon Murray.

Adi Jacobs – now there’s a liability on defence.
8 May 2008, 15:15 pm
mmmm….interesting…
I hope it works!! Noe AD is getting his chance as a few people here have been asking and lets see how he goes. He sure loves to attack.

“Sharks whack Waylon”
Sounds a little off, dont you think Ryan?
8 May 2008, 15:17 pm
What do you mean by “off”?
8 May 2008, 15:18 pm
#6 Agreed. Sounds like he did something he shouldn’t have and the management has driven him to Sea Cow Lake and shot him.
8 May 2008, 15:19 pm
#7 Perhaps a bit inappropriate or misleading?
8 May 2008, 15:19 pm

****:”Hey Gino! Have you wacked that Waylon yet?”
Gino:”Not yet Boss”
Some kinda Godfather scene!
Or you could have a filthy mind and look at it like that! But just a note thats all. Dont take me too seriaaasly!

Are you going to make me shout for the Waratahs?

#11. Cool name choice. I bet Gino wears a white suit, black shirt, white tie and shoes, perspires excessively, and packs a .357 Magnum.
8 May 2008, 15:28 pm
Still no announced team yet. Will see when they announce it. **** always changes his mind!
8 May 2008, 15:29 pm
Muir is going into panic mode. Yes Jacobs deserves a start, but in place of Murray? Rather drop Steyn who has done fark all this season and play Jacobs and Murray.
Can it be true that the Sharks must bring Ackermann out of retirement in the Cape to play at lock this weekend? Is there not one decent lock in KZN who can be used? What about Hargreaves?
Panic has set in, Cheetahs to win.

#15 THE MAULER: No ways in hell lol , no the cheetha’s will never make it

Yeah! **** talking in that same voice as Marlon Brando! He He! Gino talking like a real Italian Gangsta. Joe Peci in the Background yelling he will do it!
8 May 2008, 15:31 pm
Sheez man I certainly hope that **** doesn’t go doing the same that he does with the Shark backline in the Springbok setup. He has messed them around, just look what stability does for form, watch the Stormers.
8 May 2008, 15:32 pm
#17 Andre_WP:
Ok thats better! Go Stormers!

Its amazing how last year he kept playing the same team week in and week out. As Loosehead said….PANIC!

#7 Ryan: You and your colleagues need to venture away from the alliteration nest.
I’m surprised you didn’t opt for “Muir moers Murray”.

8 May 2008, 15:36 pm
But evryone on here bleated when Jake stuck with the same players week in week out. Now **** gets creative by playing various players in different positions each week, he gets slated as well.

I always say keep consistancy! Even with Jake.
8 May 2008, 15:39 pm
#26 THE MAULER:
Of course I agree with you.
8 May 2008, 15:40 pm
#26 The only area of consistency the Sharks have shown this year is their consistent inability to be creative.
8 May 2008, 15:44 pm
Murray is only rated by the Durban surfers.
8 May 2008, 15:45 pm
#21 THE MAULER: He was doing this with Steyn before they started losing though! So not sure what his thing is this year.
Who is your team?

#29 K9_BaasPatrolliehond: Lets talk again if your team actually manages to do us a favour and beat the Chiefs!
#4 THE MAULER: Adi breaks the line, I think this is in an effort to score tries remember we need to win but we also need the 4 tries. I think he is trying to get more attacking play at the cost of Defence.
8 May 2008, 15:58 pm
RYAN!!!
8 May 2008, 15:59 pm
**** muir will drop everyone in that backline but not f steyn.he is trying new combinations all the time .he should drop steyn and see how that combination works.
8 May 2008, 16:00 pm
Murray has been woeful on attack all season. A real pity, cos we were hoping he would really put his hand up this year. With Mossie out, he could have established himself as the first choice 13, but he’s gone backwards.
8 May 2008, 16:00 pm
#32 Dawn: And Adi is White? Don’t think he would be happy with you Dawn!
8 May 2008, 16:03 pm
I think that **** has picked a strong side. Sure Murray is unlucky, but Jacobs has played well this season when given a chance. Steyn is retained in one of the 2 positions he shows real class (fullback is the other one, not an outside centre and not enough vision or distribution for 10). Ruan could be an exciting prospect at 10, given game time. AJ adds a tough streak at the break-down that just doesn’t exist with a backrow consisting of Kanko, Botes and Daniels. I mean Smith would savage those guys. Also Ackerman is a class enforcer. Side would be better when Barrit returns and Frans goes to fullback, but Stefan isn’t a bad filler. Shouldn’t have been starting every game though.
8 May 2008, 16:04 pm
What are you lot on about?
Murray has been totally **** this season, I have not seen him make or create one line break. Jacobs, however, looks dangerous every time he touches the ball.
This might just be what the stagnant Sharks Backline needs.
8 May 2008, 16:07 pm
Dicks back-line woes stem from trying to find space for Steyn. He should have played 15 all season and 12 when Barrit was injured, those are his best positions. As an outside centre I rate Murray and Jacobs above him and he should stay away from flyhalf altogether.
8 May 2008, 16:08 pm
#40 Mistral: My thoughts exactly, all the Sharks need is someone to set the spark, I think Adi may very well prove to be that! Very relieved to see Bissie is fit to play.
8 May 2008, 16:09 pm
Other than Percy in, who started and finished with jake in the same backline positions over his four years??? Some much **** gets spewed here.
**** has had 3 seasons in Super 14 – 5th, 2nd and POSSIBLY a worst placed 5th again. Who else can boast a better record. I d however have my concerns over Adi’s defence, but like girllshark says they need to score tries in this game!
8 May 2008, 16:10 pm
Finicky Vrede forsakes Fireman’s firm.
8 May 2008, 16:13 pm
I think PDV may want to check Adi having a full game. Other than Fourie (hasn’t played, but still the best) not many 13s putting their hands up this season. Jacobs defence does worry me, but has improved.
8 May 2008, 16:16 pm
#34 GirlShark: How do u know who my team is? But btw…Lions by 40…u heard it here first
8 May 2008, 16:17 pm
Why is it always a “black” player for a “black” player. One would swear there were quotas.
8 May 2008, 16:17 pm
#35 Dawn:
what you getting in a tiz about?
#40 Mistral:
His defense has been ok, but his attack has been feable.
8 May 2008, 16:18 pm
#46 K9_BaasPatrolliehond: I have followed your posts! I really hope the Lions win, and not only becuase they will do the Sharks a favour (of course that is a part of it) but I think these young guys need the win! Despite their log positions they never play dead, they need to win at least this one.
8 May 2008, 16:21 pm
#49 GirlShark: I will ask them nicely…just for u and the Sharkies.
Who knows…..somewhere they’r going to cause an upset. Two games left. Rather this weekend.
