Cape clobbering on cards
29 Aug 2008
The Bulls will mark their 70th anniversary with a victory over the southern rivals Western Province while the Sharks should be too good for Boland in Wellington.
Keo.co.za previews this weekend’s Absa Currie Cup fixtures.
Boland v Sharks, Friday, Wellington 4pm
With rain predicted, Boland will fancy their chances of an upset, but that is unlikely against the Sharks who field five Springboks in their run-on side. Conditions will ensure this will be a forward-orientated contest which the Sharks should dominate in the loose and set phases. Handling will be made difficult for the backline, but marshalled by Frederic Michalak and Brad Barritt, they’ll have enough quality to trouble Boland despite conditions that won’t promote an expansive brand of rugby.
Sharks by 10
Boland - 15 Justin Peach, 14 Danwel Demas, 13 Cornell Hendricks, 12 Lionel Cornelius, 11 Alvin Hugo, 10 Isma-eel Dollie, 9 Neil Papier, 8 Dries van Schalkwyk, 7 Angelo Brinkhuis, 6 Zolani Mofu, 5 Bradley Mockford, 4 Frikkie Spies, 3 WP Nel, 2 Clemen Lewis, 1 Janro van Niekerk.
Subs: 16 Harry Vermaas, 17 Jean Botha, 18 Nico Esterhuyse, 19 Whalied Heyns, 20 Danie van der Merwe, 21 Elgar Watts, 22 Deon Scholtz.
Sharks - 15 Stefan Terblanche, 14 Chris Jordaan, 13 Riaan Swanepoel, 12 Bradley Barritt (captain), 11 Waylon Murray, 10 Frédéric Michalak, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Keegan Daniel, 7 Jean Deysel, 6 Jacques Botes, 5 Alistair Hargreaves, 4 Albert van den Berg, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Skipper Badenhorst, 1 Deon Carstens.
Subs: 16 Craig Burden, 17 Melusi Mthethwa, 18 Steven Sykes, 19 Skholiwe Ndlovu, 20 Rory Kockott, 21 Andries Strauss.
Blue Bulls v Western Province, Friday, Pretoria 7pm
Western Province last won at Loftus in 2006 but don’t expect them to replicate that result on Friday. They will field an experienced pack, including 19-year-old tighthead JC Kritzinger and 22-year-old loosehead Wicus Blaauw. Expect Springbok prop Gurthro Steenkamp to school Kritzinger, while Rayno Gerber will be at Blaauw all evening. The Bulls also boast Springboks Wikus van Heerden and Pedrie Wannenburg in their loose trio and will have a distinct edge in this department. Province will be competitive at the lineouts but will struggle beyond that, particularly with their backline set to receive poor quality ball from scrum time. They’ll slump to their fifth defeat in six matches, plunging their semi-final hopes further into doubt.
Bulls by 15
Blue Bulls - 15 Tiger Mangweni, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Wynand Olivier, 12 Wayne Julies, 11 John Mametsa, 10 Morné Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pedrie Wannenburg, 7 Wikus van Heerden (captain), 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 4 Juandré Kruger, 3 Rayno Gerber, 2 Derick Kuün, 1 Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Subs: 16 Bandise Maku, 17 Werner Kruger, 18 Dewald Potgieter, 19 Jacques Burger, 20 Heini Adams, 21 Burton Francis, 22 Marius Delport.
Western Province - 15 Gio Aplon, 14 Wylie Human, 13 PJ Vermeulen, 12 Gcobani Bobo (captain), 11 Tonderai Chavhanga, 10 Joe Pietersen, 9 Bolla Conradie, 8 Nick Köster, 7 Francois Louw, 6 Pieter Louw, 5 Ross Skeate, 4 Adriaan Fondse, 3 JC Kritzinger, 2 Schalk Brits, 1 Wicus Blaauw
Subs: 16 Deon Fourie, 17 Schalk Ferreira, 18 AJ Venter, 19 Conraad Britz, 20 Dewaldt Duvenhage, 21 Matthew Rosslee, 22 Morgan Newman.

The Sharks/Boland game could be decided by which team has the best swimmers.

#4 It is just a game:
and flipper size!!!
#5 EEE: Those NASA designed swimsuits used in the olympics can also help.
29 Aug 2008, 08:42 am
Wp don’t look to bad on paper ekse , but they can’t play rugby. Back to the drawing board for next year and please find a decent coach.
Waar is WP se jong talent ? Eish ,
29 Aug 2008, 09:32 am
Bulls will put 50 points on W.Problems….
WP and the Boks have the same problem…… Introduction of a coach of colour purely because of the colour of his skin rather than his ability to do the job…. And before the scribes start yelling Racialist at me understand this clearly that I don’t give two flying “F’s” what the hue of a coaches skin is as long as he is capable to do the job.
29 Aug 2008, 09:37 am
WP gaan goed op hulle moer kry.
29 Aug 2008, 09:38 am
#10 Andre_WP:
No they are not too interested in the CC, Coetzee said as much – Super 14 is what it is all about for them and Rassie in particular.
CC is used to develop depth and if they do well like reach the semi’s, its a bonus.
Rassie is already coaching the CC side ,and picking the players.
willing to make a white flyhalf , but not choose ones of colour
#18 World Cup: En Meyer gaan nog ‘n paar spelers lok daai kant toe dis verseker.
29 Aug 2008, 10:33 am
#15 stigo: #16 World Cup:
Agree Stigo. Rassie must take the blame together with AC.
World cup, maak nie saak hoe hard jy dit probeer ontken nie, Rassie speel net so groot rol daar as AC! Weereens Rassie. Albei maak droog.
29 Aug 2008, 10:36 am
#19 Andre_WP:
Hoe gaan dit in Harrismith my vriend?
29 Aug 2008, 10:40 am
A 4pm game? Am i the only one who works?

#22 billy:
Will they show this game on DSTV? The 4pm one?
Hierdie AC is nowhere!!!
#24 Hoops: Amper so belaglik soos dat Piet snor nog daar is….
#27 EEE:
Hulle was net lucky in die s14
29 Aug 2008, 11:00 am
#29 It is just a game:
Thanx, ek is naby die wildtuin vir die naweek, sal maar n plek moet soek wat dit wys…
29 Aug 2008, 11:26 am
#24 Hoops: Come now, “pak gee” is a VERY VERY bold statement, it was a bonus point loss (as far as I recall) for the Bulls thanks to a somewhat questionable try that could have gone either way. The other game the Bulls lost was by 3 points to a highly motivated Lions side. (Point being that no side in this CC has dominated the Bulls)
Having said that I fear that Rassie has the Bulls number. They should take this though. Piss Ant I for my sake you’re right but have a sneaky suspicion you might be wrong.
I can’t wait for this stupid 3N to finish so that we can be spared the embarrasment of the Friday Night games. I think the Bulls performances are relatively poor during the Friday night games. Seems the players arent’t awake at that time of night. The only good thing from these games is it might teach our younger generation to play later games as the do in Europe when we get pummeled.
29 Aug 2008, 11:46 am
WP moet tog nou net die overrated bulle vanaand ‘n pak gee. Die Leeus was 20 punte beter as hulle.
29 Aug 2008, 11:49 am
The Sharks might just come unstuck in Wellington tonight.
WP on the other hand [Darren] will be lucky to lose by 30.
29 Aug 2008, 12:02 pm
Any idea where Sicknote Chilliboy Rapelele is?
29 Aug 2008, 12:07 pm
#34 Loosehead: YOu forget our boys live by the sea they know how to swim, unlike the Cheetahs who nearly drowned
How are you Loosehead? Any idea why Plum may have changed the two props around, Cilliers at Loosehead and Carstens at Tighthead?
Cyborg Chilliboy is with the Boks.
29 Aug 2008, 12:13 pm
Sprinboks have real big problems, guys. Ha! ha! ha!
Simon ‘Bulldog’ Dickson
29 Aug 2008, 12:20 pm
#36 Sharksgirl: No, he didnt make the bulls squad for the weekend.
29 Aug 2008, 12:24 pm
Watch Nick Koster… very good player
29 Aug 2008, 12:27 pm
#38 K9_BaasPatrolliehond:
I thought I read somewhere that he was assisting with the Boks? I must be getting really confused!
29 Aug 2008, 12:28 pm
#39 AWESOMESTORMER: Holy moly ,how many players in the WP forwards are older than 21?
29 Aug 2008, 12:28 pm
#34 Loosehead: The Sharks will win this one and the CC. I’m saying this because their Bok players looks to be the least affected by PdeV’s coaching.
29 Aug 2008, 12:28 pm
If we had Deon Fourie at starting hooker that would be a very scary thought.
29 Aug 2008, 12:32 pm
41 Its rising empire anmd besides thats not an issue.. remember the bulls in 20003
29 Aug 2008, 12:33 pm
#36 Sharksgirl: Hi, from what I understand Carstens is at Loosehead and the Michaelhouse Old Boy is at Tighthead.
The Boland pitch will be terrible, it rained here again this morning, expect a mud fight for your boys.
Chilliboy, when last did he finish a game? He is amore injury prone than Big Joke, Andre Pretoors and Jacques Fourie combined. Snor should have called Willie Wepener up to the Bok squad.
29 Aug 2008, 12:35 pm
#42 It is just a game: Thats right, they could catch, pass or tackle even before Snor got his hands on them.
29 Aug 2008, 12:35 pm
Province look good for the future
29 Aug 2008, 12:36 pm
#46 Loosehead: Damn I left the not out.
29 Aug 2008, 12:42 pm
#45 Loosehead: He’s just helping out running the drill etc, pulling Wepenaar out of the Lions setup would be kinda disruptive to them don’t you think.
#47 AWESOMESTORMER: I agree, Deon Fourie is a really exciting prospect.
29 Aug 2008, 12:47 pm
Hallo almal.
