Habana doesn’t haunt Sharks
21 Oct 2008
Sharks backline coach Grant Bashford says they’ll be making a fundamental error by focusing too intently on blunting Bryan Habana.
In 2007, Habana stole a victory for the Bulls over the Sharks in the Super 14 final with a sensational solo try at the death. On Saturday the Bulls winger will return to Kings Park with the wound he inflicted still gaping, despite the Sharks’ assertions to the contrary.
Habana has had a relatively quiet season by his standards, scoring just three tries in the Absa Currie Cup. He does, however, remain a player for the big occasion and is certain to punish the hosts if granted space and time.
However, while Bashford concedes that the current IRB Player of the Year is capable of moments of brilliance which change the course of matches, he was adamant that they haven’t centered their attention on nullifying him.
“Habana is world class and it would be crass of us to dismiss his threat altogether. But we haven’t thought about Habana as an individual threat at all. We haven’t targeted him for special attention,” he told keo.co.za.
“Rugby is a game of cause and effect relationships. If we dominate in the forwards, the effect is that their backline finds it difficult to play. So cutting his supply is an obvious method of limiting his influence.
“That said, he has scored many points when his team didn’t have possession [through the intercept], which speaks volumes about his ability to read the game. When a player has that ability it makes him very dangerous for the opposition because he’s not relying solely on his inside backs to create opportunities for him.
“But again, I have to stress that our focus is on the collective and not an individual.”
Speaking of the Blue Bulls’ backline as a whole, Bashford said he was “very impressed with their evolution in recent years.
“They used to be one of the most predictable backlines in the sense that they posed little threat outside of big strike runners playing off their 10,” he said.
“That was relatively simple to defend against because they posed a limited threat in terms of attacking a range of different channels. But Pieter Rossouw [Bulls backline coach] has built on the progress they’ve made in that facet of play in recent years and they are now possess an unpredictable edge.”
Bashford continued by saying that the primary catalyst in that evolution has been Morné Steyn at flyhalf.
“They often had their flyhalf slip back into the pocket to try and control games with the boot,” he said in reference to the now departed Derrick Hougaard.
“But Morné has come on brilliantly this season and the biggest reason for that is that he has a range of different options to select from when he’s in possession.
“He’s also got the likes of Fourie du Preez and Wynand Olivier on his inside and outside respectively and both those players have had very good campaigns to date, which has made his job a lot easier.
“That’s why I say to isolate Habana would be a grave error because they have a number of game breakers, and if you fix your attention on one you run the risk of being hurt by the others. We don’t want to run that risk so we’re covering all our bases.”

On his current form he could not haunt a 2-year old.

Jp is in better form and a bloody outstanding player, so w/e.

Of course not – but in rugby your pace means nothing without the ball or not using it at all.

Nooooooo !!! Come on Keo. Not another currie cup related thread.
I need my half hourly Watson saga fix. The name calling, the finger pointing.
Calling my fellow bloggers closet racists and yellow belly liberals.
The rehashing of the same old arguments. Hearing the same point fervently debated for the 100th time.
I haven’t had to watch “sewende laan” once for the last week to get my dose of drama, passion and back stabbing.

# PissAnt:
Yes, sadly with any young man you throw in money and fame with no financial education and things go pear shaped. That and the fact that he seems to be suffering from a reoccuring injury, his form has been really poor of late.
But I have no doubt he will “find” himself and get back to form. Wether it will be in time for the final is another matter

I am putting money on the Lions tour myself until we see the best of him.

Let’s admit it, seeing that boy in full flight is electrifying! I cannot wait until he gets back to form, even if I’m not a Bulls fan

#10 Richie_7:
Yeah, there is only one Habs.
21 Oct 2008, 10:24 am
And I could not care less who he plays for provincially – I want him in electrifying form for the Boks.
21 Oct 2008, 10:24 am
Forget about Habana!!! JP is the dangerman now…

Meisiekind to score a brace!

#14 Kerneels:
Now there is a guy in good form.
21 Oct 2008, 10:31 am
I saw Habana’s tackle on England’s winger Saki in the WC final again last night in the gym. It makes one feel all warm inside. The guys were all heart on that Stade France field…. he basically lifted him off his feet through sheer forward motion in the tackle and carried him back a good 3-4 meters.
Does anyone know if you could buy the final on dvd?
21 Oct 2008, 10:33 am
#15 PissAnt: I agree – after JdV the best by a mile this year…but I just want him to score to piss off all those Meisie-haters! LOL

#3 Bagel: When was the last time we actually saw Habana at pace ?
21 Oct 2008, 10:33 am
JP would still be wondering on which side Brian passed him long after Morne has converted!
21 Oct 2008, 10:34 am
Well, he still haunts me. Him and Wicus, and Steve Walsh.

I think its Jongi Dawn.

Jongikhaya to be precise.
21 Oct 2008, 10:39 am
Good: Jongi Better: JP Best: Habana
21 Oct 2008, 10:39 am
#22 PissAnt: Nah, Meisie is a good player – the fact that he looks like a Ken-doll and plays for the Bull does not help him much… IMO he should play 13 with Julies at 12, but that is just me.
21 Oct 2008, 10:40 am
Jongi’s better.
21 Oct 2008, 10:41 am
#27 Sniper: goed beter botter.
21 Oct 2008, 10:41 am
#28 Kerneels: …but that is just me…. are you Olivier?
21 Oct 2008, 10:42 am
#25 PissAnt: No man its Jongi Nokwe not Jongi Dawn.
21 Oct 2008, 10:43 am
#31 Sniper: Nope. He is spending the day at Gary Rom getting ‘the do’ ready for the big day.
21 Oct 2008, 10:43 am
#28 Kerneels:
He obviously worked on his game, has a good boot which helps a lot, and on current form deserves a look in – did not think so last year though.
But respect to a guy that works hard on his weaknesses, his defense has improved a lot and his distribution now finds his players and not the guy in row 3G.
Deserves a look-in for the national team, unlike some other guys which so much fuss has been made about now and in the past like Barritt, Brits and of course Lookie.
21 Oct 2008, 10:43 am
#32 anderkantdiewater:
Jongi Nokwe is better.
21 Oct 2008, 10:44 am
#32 anderkantdiewater:

21 Oct 2008, 10:44 am
#33 Kerneels: Do you work for Gary Rom?
21 Oct 2008, 10:45 am
#28 Kerneels: I also prefer Meisiekind playing at No 13, rather than at No 12……….
Bulls have a slight centre problem at the moment…. Marius Delport at No 13 is below par….. Julies, after good form last year is below par at No 12…
Bulls need a mudda-farker centre for next year……… and no not the Ninja-JP-clueless-Nel farkerrrr.
21 Oct 2008, 10:46 am
#35 Dawn: Havent seen Jongi Dawn play so cant really comment..
21 Oct 2008, 10:47 am

21 Oct 2008, 10:47 am
#37 Sniper: No, the pressure will kill me.
21 Oct 2008, 10:48 am
#38 grootblousmile: In my humble opinion – the Bulls have performed much better without him. Can’t believe he is on his back to the Bulls. Will they take him back?
21 Oct 2008, 10:49 am
#41 Kerneels: Phew. A bit concerned there.
21 Oct 2008, 10:49 am
Of course Habana does not haunt the Sharks.
But Jaco van der Westhuyzen haunts most of us.
21 Oct 2008, 10:49 am

21 Oct 2008, 10:50 am
#44 WP Till I Die: thanks for the memory.
21 Oct 2008, 10:50 am
I hope the bulls play Julies. He’s a lot less threatening for us!
21 Oct 2008, 10:51 am
#38 grootblousmile: I agree – 13 always seems to be an issue for the Bulls, the worse the player is, the bigger thug he becomes in an attempt to hide his shocking lack of talent!
We should have bought Jacque F years ago…
21 Oct 2008, 10:51 am
#42 Sniper: He might be in the squad… but I’ll definately not play JP Ninja Nel again…..
21 Oct 2008, 10:52 am

I really hope the sharks bring their A-game on saturday and they have forgotten the past. I would start John just to calm the nerves.

Man for man, I see the match-ups in the final as follows:
Sharks have best front row and front row bench players
Bulls Have best locks
Loosies should be about equal
Scrummie… even stevens
Fly Half… even stevens
Inside Centre… mmmmm exciting tussle between Meisiekind and Fransie Steyn
Sharks have the better outside centre
Wings….. even stevens
Full back… Stefan Terblance is in awesome form, but Mangweni can make magic… if Bulls choose Kirchner it’s advantage Sharks
Let’s see what happens !!

The players I’m wary of inn the Sharks set-up is, Kanko, Pienaar and most of all Adi Jacobs.
Just looking at the players that are suspect to likely to implosion, Kermit, Steyn and Terreblanche. Bismarck is due a yellow/red card too.

Wel ek staan op vir my span!
Slappes

They may have stumbled over the words to Shosholoza, but the small group of men gathered outside Parliament on Monday to protest against the proposed culling of the controversial Springbok emblem, stirred debate among passersby.
The Springbok emblem is once again at the centre of a storm after a recent national sport indaba in Durban, where a number of people, including prominent politicians, called for it to be scrapped.
On Monday, eight people marched from the top of Roeland Street in the CBD to the gates of Parliament, waving a Springbok flag and wearing shirts and hats depicting the now-endangered bokkie.
One man waved a placard bearing the words, “Springbok – symbol of unity and peace”.
The protesters launched into a chorus of Shosholoza, but one man interrupted: “Who knows the words?”
Several pupils passing Parliament debated the merits of keeping the Springbok emblem. They giggled at the protesters’ rousing rendition of the national anthem – a song to which they all knew the words.
The latest round of threats to the emblem is causing an outcry on the popular social networking website, Facebook. Several groups named Save the Springbok! have been created.
The biggest had 3 214 members and was advertising National Springbok Emblem Day on December 1. Supporters are asked to wear anything displaying the Springbok emblem.

21 Oct 2008, 12:38 pm
#204 grootblousmile:
21 Oct 2008, 12:40 pm
#207 Staal:
Waar het ek oor hom gepraat? ou Staal , hy moet vokof so ver van my span af as moontlik. Ons het genoeg loosies.
21 Oct 2008, 12:41 pm
#203 Slappes:
Ek verkies Steyn op 10.
Wil saam Staal jou vra: Gaan jy regtig nog WP ondersteun as Luke in die span is?
21 Oct 2008, 12:41 pm
#207 Staal: Staal, ek dink WP / Stormers gaan vir Lulu so stil-stil uitwerk daar… tot hy die eerste beste oorseese offertjie aanvaar……..
21 Oct 2008, 12:41 pm
#208 Slappes: Hier is my 5 cents worth.
Sharks se gif sit op 12 – Jacobs is ‘n spelskepper, like him or not..
21 Oct 2008, 12:42 pm
#208 Slappes:
21 Oct 2008, 12:42 pm
#207 Staal: Hoe lyk die diere vandag ? die weer hier by ons is maat so-so
21 Oct 2008, 12:43 pm

21 Oct 2008, 12:43 pm
21 Oct 2008, 12:44 pm
#215 Supa Die Bloubul: Wie’s op 10? Francis?
21 Oct 2008, 12:44 pm
#211 grootblousmile:
Ek hoop so, maar ek twyfel.
#212 common sense:
Agree, Jacobs has proved me wrong. He is playing exciting, good rugby.
21 Oct 2008, 12:45 pm
#216 common sense: As J Smith opkom, neem hy die kaptein oor? anybody? of bly Muller?
21 Oct 2008, 12:45 pm
21 Oct 2008, 12:45 pm
#213 Supa Die Bloubul: check 209
Ek wil nie oor hom praat nie , hyt genoeg blogtyd gehad!
21 Oct 2008, 12:46 pm
#215 Supa Die Bloubul: Sorry, is deesdae out of touch met die ruggas. seker te doen met my arme span…
21 Oct 2008, 12:46 pm
#218 common sense:
#216 common sense: daai ding is n monster, beste haker in die land by a country mile! Imo.
21 Oct 2008, 12:47 pm
#222 Slappes:
Net ja of nee.
Sal jy WP/Stormers ondersteun as Luke in die span is?
21 Oct 2008, 12:48 pm
#221 grootblousmile:
21 Oct 2008, 12:48 pm
#220 shooter: Seker Smittie. Muller nie dieselfde klas leier nie.
21 Oct 2008, 12:48 pm
#89 grootblousmile: “Fly Half… even stevens”
You’ve got to be kidding about that one!
Morne Steyn as good as Michalak?? in your dream perhaps…..
21 Oct 2008, 12:49 pm
#221 grootblousmile: #219 Supa Die Bloubul:
So hyt nog n geldige kontrak, en hulle sit hom oppie bench of vodacom cup – hy sal vanself verdwyn.
Ek sal bly n wp ondersteuner!!!
21 Oct 2008, 12:49 pm
Ek sal altyd teen daai span skree.
21 Oct 2008, 12:49 pm
#224 Supa Die Bloubul: OOPS!
21 Oct 2008, 12:50 pm
#230 Slappes:
So jy support Luke as hulle hom kies?
21 Oct 2008, 12:51 pm
#229 itachi25: Yes and no. Michalak inconsistent, could also throw it away under pressure. And there will be pressure.
21 Oct 2008, 12:51 pm
#232 common sense:
Ja, ek wens die Bulle wil hom kry. Sal hom en WO saam geniet. JAcobs is ewe goed op binne-of buite senter.
21 Oct 2008, 12:52 pm
#229 itachi25: I’m not kidding… Michelak is a mere shaddow of the player he was last season, whereas Morne Steyn has come on nicely and if all things were equal, which they’re not, he would have been in the reconing for Bokke honours during this end of year Tour…
21 Oct 2008, 12:53 pm
21 Oct 2008, 12:54 pm
#236 grootblousmile:
Agree, Michalak is overrated. He has been doing better the last few feeks, but he sturggled in the s14 and in the first part of the ccup.
21 Oct 2008, 12:55 pm
#233 Supa Die Bloubul:
21 Oct 2008, 12:56 pm
#237 Supa Die Bloubul:
en as hy by die bulls sou gaan speel
party ek eers!
21 Oct 2008, 12:56 pm
#238 remember to wear your springbok gear on the 1st december!:
ek **** jou, en ek ondersteun die Bokke, nie Luke nie, maar as Luke ooit weer n Bok trui oor sy kop trek, ondersteun ek die ander span. Ek kan nie n span ondersteun waarin Luke speel nie.
21 Oct 2008, 12:57 pm
#239 common sense:
Ja, dit hom net lank gevat om reg te kom. Die ou speel al 8 jaar en nou begin hy eers uitstaan. Wens hy het dit jare terug gedoen!
21 Oct 2008, 12:57 pm
#242 remember to wear your springbok gear on the 1st december!:
Dan kyk ek nie meer rugby nie.
21 Oct 2008, 12:58 pm
#242 remember to wear your springbok gear on the 1st december!: Daasie ‘n foookin kans dat die Bulle vir Lulu sal kontrakteer nie………. nie ‘n foookin kans nie !
21 Oct 2008, 12:58 pm
21 Oct 2008, 12:59 pm
Ok rugbykenners en Luke fans (Slappes lol),

Go Bulle!!!!!!!!!
21 Oct 2008, 12:59 pm
#243 Supa Die Bloubul:

luke sal beslis nie gou weer ñ springbok trui aantrek nie
inteendeel
21 Oct 2008, 13:00 pm
Manne gou uit – so terug oor n uur -sien later julle luke bewonderaars!
21 Oct 2008, 13:00 pm
#241 Slappes: yip – tyd sal leer. Gaan moeilik wees om van hom ontslae te raak maar ek is eerlik as ek sê daar is beter loosies in die kaap as hy.
21 Oct 2008, 13:00 pm
#246 grootblousmile:

Yeah it is unlikely that Habana will be able to pull off that sort of stunt.
When a new player comes onto the scene, especially someone with the talent of Habs, he has in his favour the element of surprise.
However, opposing players develop that extra motivation to tackle him. Same for the likes of Carter, McCaw and so on. Slapgatjips is actually the ideal person to coach Habs having played wing as well. From what I could gather with Allister bullsh*t Coetzee there he was pretty much left to his own devices. Was guilty of overrunning the ball time after time. Even Breyton Paulse was a better anticipater of the ball than Habs. But Habs the better finisher and better all round. Breyton tackled only if really really really necessary.
Always felt he (BH) needs to expand his game and actually manufacture tries more than scoring himself, which is why I was not oppose to the idea of playing him at 13. He needs to stay calm when he senses the move is on.
But he is young and gifted enough to make the necessary adjustments.
21 Oct 2008, 13:41 pm
Sorry chaps…but the prediction is Sharks by 9, with Olivier the best player for the Bulls.
Bakkies is broken, so the advantage at lock wont be there, might even be Sharks by 15!!
21 Oct 2008, 13:41 pm
#266 Sheriff:
Habana came on to the scene in 2005. The final was in 2007. The Sharks must be very dumb if it was still the element of surprise that caught them napping.
21 Oct 2008, 13:43 pm
#267 4man:
Sharks by 15?? You must be kidding…but its ok, we prefer the Sharks making these big predictions. But I will tell you one thing – there is NO WAY that the Bulls will lose by 15 points on Saturday.
If they lose, it will be close…
21 Oct 2008, 13:47 pm
#234 common sense: Michalak has surely been quite inconsistent in the Currie Cup so far!
Oh and can you tell me how many games Michalak really singelhandedly lost for France during his career?? i don’t think there are that many.
21 Oct 2008, 13:49 pm
#267 4man: The game is way open… can go either way……. with the Sharks slight favourites.
Funny, I see very few Bulls supporters being overconfident BUT a lot of Guppy supporters and cohorts being very brazen and predicting a landslide victory….
Time will tell gentlemen… time will tell !
21 Oct 2008, 13:50 pm
#270 itachi25: Michelak is a tail-gunner of note !
21 Oct 2008, 13:51 pm
#268 Supa Die Bloubul:
Was not really referring to the element of surprise for the 2007. Read again, I made a general observation.
They knew him well by then, but there was a feeling in the air that it was game over. It was the 82nd min after all. I think I saw replays of the tries from a few angles and I dont think that he planned to have a go himself.
A (critical) player shifted which opened a gap which should not have been there. Well he immediately sensed it and backed himself. And scored the try that made Heyneke Meyer the only SA S14 winning coach.
Heyneke should be transferring pounds to Habs’ account on a monthly basis while Ricky J should also collect a brown envelope from PdV every month.

#269 Supa Die Bloubul: I tend to agree, I was not speaking to the cogniscenti such as yourself. Close game, with probably a lower number of tries than normal. But I think 9 is realistic, just more than 1 score. lets hope they both dont defend too well, so at least we get a game worth watching.
lekker wees

#271 grootblousmile: got the same feeling……I for one am not over confident….I just know one thing and that is of the bulls pull this one off…..what does that say about the sharks?
21 Oct 2008, 13:53 pm
#271 grootblousmile: The Sharks supporters arent renowned for hiding their light under a bushel, the motto normally is “go big or go home”. I reckon the Sharks are 55% and Bulls 45% and that is because of home ground, on the field they are pretty evenly matched. Only weakness in the Bulls at this late stage is the fact that Bakkies is injured, but theire are two other good guys there, so no huge loss.
21 Oct 2008, 13:58 pm
#269 Supa Die Bloubul: There is actually one horrible habit that Natal has never got 100% out of and that is playing until the final whistle. They tend to sit back on a big score and tend to consider it “game over” close to the end. Lets hope Plumtree has mbeat that out of them now.
if the surf is good Natal will battle, the guys minds will be elsewhere…its just a game after all

Manto the bartender
Article By: http://www.hayibo.com
Thu, 02 Oct 2008 10:48
Former health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang has denied reports that her new job as Minister in the Presidency will be limited to serving double vodka tonics to visiting heads of state and cooking African potato snacks for President Motlanthe.
Her spokesperson also denied that she had been asked to return the new liver she received while health minister.
Speaking to journalists from the Presidency where the Salvation Army was loading the last of Thabo Mbeki’s belongings into a van, spokesperson Clitoris Labuschagne said that just because Tshabalala-Msimang would not have any specific responsibilities, it didn’t mean that she would have no responsibilities whatsoever.
“Mostly she’s there to keep the mood up,” said Labuschagne.
Witches and showtunes
“Tell witty stories about how antiretrovirals turn people into witches, play showtunes on her ukulele, that sort of thing.”
However, she conceded that there would be a limited bartending role for the minister, and confirmed that Tshabalala-Msimang had been entrusted with the Pik Botha Memorial Brandy Decanter.
However, she said this would be a ceremonial position and would not involve much actual drinking, “at least not until everyone goes home at five”.
She also rejected allegations that Tshabalala-Msimang would be a personal chef for President Motlanthe.
“While the Minister does make a delicious quiche using African potatoes, garlic, beetroot, olive oil, denial, belligerence and lingering death, President Motlanthe has indicated that his culinary tastes tend toward more ascetic dishes.”
She said that Motlanthe was trying to cut down on carbs, and that his diet now consisted almost entirely of stem-cells and capitalists.
Labuschagne also used the opportunity to deny that the minister would have to return the liver she received in a 2007 transplant. She attacked the “general belief” that Tshabalala-Msimang “only got the liver because she was health minister at the time, and that she pulled rank to jump the queue”.
She said the people who were calling on her to give back the organ were misguided and racist.
“There are two reasons we can’t give back the liver,” said Labuschagne.
“Firstly, the only three surgeons qualified to do the operation have just emigrated to Australia.
“And secondly, and more importantly, there’s the issue of a replacement donor. We’d need to find a suitably healthy young woman, ideally one who had once supported President Mbeki, kill her, and remove her liver; and ethics approval for that kind of thing can take weeks, even for someone in the Presidency.”
Minister Tshabalala-Msimang could not be reached for comment as she was reportedly preparing a Screaming ****** for Jacob Zuma.

#279 grootblousmile: The beers are sitting chilling as we speak, Grolsch and Heineken.
unfortunately the silent majority in any fan base are the ones that dont get heard, the guys who make the noise are how the rest of the fan base is judged and that is a mistake. I have said it before the fan base at Loftus is more knowledgable about rugby than any other supporters in the country. The Sharks invented rugby as “family entertainment” in SA and there are always high expectations from the more recent additions to the fan base. Well…the more money that gets made all the better for rugby, so power to all the supporters. On that note, my team gaan jou team bliksem kom Saterdag

Saru using Springbok illegally
2008-10-21 15:42Email | Print
Johannesburg – SA Rugby is using the Springbok emblem illegally because it failed to renew its licence to use it, Sports Minister Makhenkesi Stofile said on Tuesday.
SABC radio reported that Stofile told parliament’s portfolio committee on sport that his department was the rightful owner of the Springbok and Protea trademarks.
While presenting his department’s annual report to the committee, Stofile said legal action was underway to recover royalties owed by SA Rugby for its use of the Springbok emblem.
The Springbok emblem has made news headlines more than once in the past weeks, first when sports committee chair Butana Komphela suggested that it be abolished because it divided the nation.
The ruling ANC, however, said it wanted the Springbok to stay.
Last week, Springbok player Luke Watson said he wanted to vomit on his Springbok jersey because he believed it represented a lack of transformation.
His statement sparked rumours that his fellow players had vowed to boycott their upcoming European tour if he was part of the team.
21 Oct 2008, 16:15 pm
#328 Dawn: Neeeee man, Glynis se sussie se vissie !
I’ve always wondered who this fat lady really was…. suppose we might see on Saturday !
21 Oct 2008, 16:19 pm
#327 grootblousmile: i am as sure as any supporter can be. The team are on the crest of the wave and they need only to carry their form into the final to clinch it.
Think about it.
The bulls travel really bad, we all know that. – no blue flags or steve hof over the loud speakers…..no cheers from 50 000 strong supporters, no blue flags. It’s all going to be a little bit too much for them i’m afraid.
The way i see it, there’s only one way the sharks can stuff this one up and that is if they play a structured slow game. But i don’t think they will.
Kichner is in for a hell of a day me thinks……
21 Oct 2008, 16:20 pm
#329 SharkMarine: O boy…. another Mak (Makhenkezi) mank moerrrrrrr van ‘n Stofpielle……

21 Oct 2008, 16:23 pm
Anyone have any views on the Shark new signing, Leonard Olivier?
21 Oct 2008, 16:24 pm
#331 Windhond_Sharks: You may be right, but if you’re wrong you’ll have egg all over your face….
Not many gave the Bulls a chance in the S 14 final last year either.
Finals are funny things… an event or 2 during the game can sway the result either way.
I have to admit though that the Guppies are favourites to win….
I’ll wait till the game is solidly won or lost… predictions are difficult on this one !
21 Oct 2008, 16:27 pm
Dis so goed soos ‘n patent…….. daarsie twyfel nie !

Slightly off the topic… have you seen this PUMA breaking news ?
Scanning the newsvines I see the PUMA’s are considering planting THEIR flag in SA by annexing a province neglected by SARU !
The Eastern Cape is the original home of Mike Catt and Danie Gerber + 9 million Saffers out of mainstream South African rugby. The province has, since 1980, been left to die a slow rugby death thanks to normal SARU infighting and backpocket lining, but has caught the attention of the Puma’s who apparently are HAPPY to take it off their hands.
Could we witness a new era of PLANTER international rugby ?
Apparently the EPRU (Eastern Province Rugby Union founded in 1888) will now become the Eastern PUMA Rugby Union and feature a hybrid Saffer/Argentinian squad playing against their OWN countrymen !
The new EPRU will purchase the stadiums based in Buffalo City, Nelson Mandela Bay and George from SARU and will see 9 million in the province OPT OUT of South African Rugby Pty Ltd (ie SARU).
????? A case of USE IT or lose it … ???? The only chance the Eastern Cape has is to get OUT of SARU and most Eastern Capers would rather shout for the ePUMA’s than the Zimboks…
