Carter skips Cape Town
4 Feb 2009
Dan Carter will not attend the Cape Town Tens at Hamiltons this weekend, after picking up a serious Achilles tendon injury.
Carter, who is currently on a sabbatical from New Zealand rugby at French club Perpignan, will be out of action for six months after suffering the injury in the 79th minute of his team’s 13-13 Top 14 draw against Stade Français in Paris.
In a double blow for the 26-year-old All Blacks flyhalf – who just last week had signed up to join the Cape Town Tens as a tournament ambassador – he will also finish his intended six-month club career in France having played just five matches for the Catalan club.
“It was the last play of the game,” said Carter. “I just tried to push off my foot when suddenly it felt like somebody had kicked me in the Achilles… One of my first thoughts was, ‘What about the Cape Town Tens?’, and I sent a text to Ron Rutland from hospital telling him I had hurt myself, but I wasn’t able to say for sure whether I would make the Cape Town Tens or not.
“As it turns out it was actually a partial tear of my Achilles and I will return to Paris on Thursday for surgery. I will spend a few days there after my operation and we’ll see afterwards where I will do the majority of by rehab. It’s a real bugger; as all injuries are, but I’m confident I can make a full recovery and be back playing some good rugby for the All Blacks in a few months’ time.”
Carter has yet to decide whether he will stick around in France, instead of returning to New Zealand to undergo rehabilitation.

Simon (or is that Simian?)
Way behind the times mate. He f**ked his Achilles last weekend. I suspect that “Hamiltons” was the last thing on his mind! He was probably more thinking of the several millions of Rands he won’t earn from “Les Frogs” now.

Dammit I hate dragons. Thwarted. Number 2 yet again.

Number 3…

I would think one of his first thoughts would be oh shite Perpignan and not Cape Town 10′s. Anyway , major setback for the 10′s , wonder who will replace him ?

Shame, he’ll be gutted! I was reading rcently that he couldnt wait to get to Cape Town to enjoy some nice summer weather and refered to it as “one of his favourite cities in the world”.

Simon
I had a 3 Ton tank dragged up my leg (University, don’t ask) and all I was thinking was, where the hell is my sun-glasses. Ends up I had to get a re construction operation on my leg and knee and will prob start using a cane at the age of 45.
Strange **** goes through your head in an accident. A friend of mine totaled his car when he rolled it over 3 lanes of incoming traffic, and all he was thinking of was, where the hell is my siggies?
If the guy said that was what he was thinking of, thats what he was thinking of.

Maybe Dan might pitch up to be at one of the world’s largest, wildest full-on two day fancy-dress parties, viz. the Wellington Sevens! What a sharp festive contrast with that dull, dreary snorefest SA annually puts on in that dull little sleepy-hollow village of George.

#16 TheTackler: Such a bright, positive person aren’t you?! Yep, that’s what people say “there goes good ol’ Tackler, such a cheerful oke, no matter how hard it gets he still manages to stay so positive!”.

#17 Crouching Tiger Hidden Bokke: Face it, Wellington ROCKS and George absolutely sucks. It’s high time to move the SA Sevens to a buzzy city like Cape Town or, if not, to party-friendly university town where there is some sort of atmosphere better than that of a dull retirement village.

Stellenbosch. Facilities, GORGEOUS scenery/girls, thousands of supporters and a big rugby culture…
