In a R25 million deal with SA Rugby, Castle has been named as the title sponsors of the British & Irish Lions tour.
This agreement is the richest in Springbok rugby history and through the weight of money has now affected the tour to be coined as the ‘Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series’. CSA09LS for short.
Saru president Oregan Hoskins appears delighted to be lying on the mammoth bed of funding. The realisation that such a lucrative sponsorship could give this tour the backing required to treat fans to a previously unforeseen spectacle is not lost on him.
“The British & Irish Lions tour is a like a mini Rugby World Cup to me,” said Hoskins at the SAB World of Beer in Newtown on Wednesday. “Its significance makes the tour important for SA Rugby and the nation, and we are honoured to host the team. We think this will be the best Lions tour yet.”
As Springbok team sponsor in the past and, more recently, as a main sponsor of the 1997 Lions tour to South Africa, SAB’s return has given Saru an easy sponsorship solution and left Hoskins eager to tout the brand.
“We are very pleased to have such a reputable sponsor on board for this tour and excited to see Castle Lager reunited with the world of rugby once again,’ said Hoskins.”SAB and SA Rugby have a relationship dating back several years and its brand support is important for rugby and everything it stands for.”
