McCaw out of June Tests
29 May 2009
All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw has been ruled out of his country’s June Test series with a knee injury.
The Kiwis face two Tests against the French in Dunedin and Wellington before fronting Italy in Christchurch, and having already lost flyhalf Dan Carter for the rest of the season, the All Blacks will now have to get the job done without their inspirational captain.
Scans revealed the McCaw strained ligaments in his right knee during the Crusaders’ semi-final defeat to the Bulls last weekend. The flanker will now look to make his return to action in the Tri-Nations in July.
While the injury is similar to the one he suffered against the Highlanders back in early March, it is believed the injuries are not related and surgery will not be required.
‘The scan revealed he had a torn ligament on the postero-lateral corner of his right knee,’ All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson told Rugbyheaven.co.nz.
‘He will have a period of complete rest and once the swelling and pain have subsided then he will be able to get into some bike work before he can resume running and rugby training.’
All Blacks coach Graham Henry now faces a selection dilemma with Hurricanes openside flanker Scott Waldrom also facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking bones in his back during last week’s other semi-final.
‘It’s incredibly disappointing news for Richie,’ said Henry. ‘As everyone knows, he is an outstanding and influential player and the leader of the All Blacks and we will be giving him every support he needs over the next few weeks.’
Hurricanes skipper Rodney So’oialo will in all likelihood take over the captaincy from McCaw, having deputised for him last season.

The rest will do him good. Poor old Soóialo he has played a massive amount of rugby this year.
29 May 2009, 08:42 am
As with all previous players with knee injuries/ops…… am i wrong or is he getting slower and slower? Pity…cause he is a monster.
He was not – as certain people predicted he would – such a factor in the semi’s vs the Bulls…. imo.

McCaw on one leg is still the best player in the world, in my opinion.
29 May 2009, 09:02 am
He will be missed but in Adam Thompson and Thomas Waldrom they have some very good players waiting for their chance.
29 May 2009, 09:56 am
#4 Kerneels: Parisse is the best player these days in my opinion, injuries are slowing McCaw down.
#5 Corndog: Waldrom has a fractured back.
29 May 2009, 10:37 am
#6 Big Hit:
Corndog is talking about Thomas Waldrom not Scott Waldrom.
29 May 2009, 10:45 am
#7 Yetirat: Was talking about Thomas but was not aware his injury was that serious. Either way there are some very good no. 7′s to cover for McCaw. McCaw is still a great player, did he play with an injury on Saturday, if so maybe that is one of the reasons he didn’t make such a big impact.

Hope he’s back for the 3nations, im keen as chips to see him live.

#12 Hurricane:
We can be sure of one thing Hurricane, Parisse in bound to be twice the player, of any Pom in the current Lions Team.
29 May 2009, 11:47 am
#15 cane: are there Poms in the Lions team ?? didnt think any were good enough to be honest…

Since when have the ProteaBoks been the 2nd Best Team in the World?
2008 Tri-Nations Table.
New Zealand 19 points
Australia 14 points
South Africa 10 points
Forget the Double Points Chicanery of the last WC. Australia are #2.
29 May 2009, 11:54 am
#16 poppa69:
They have a Hurricane reject….. Rikki Flutey……Poachers.
29 May 2009, 12:02 pm
#17 Corndog: was he knighted too ? and is he the only one? if so perhaps they need to drop the British part of it altogether
29 May 2009, 12:03 pm
#5 Corndog:
Adam Thompson was possibly the best player in the tournament S14 this yr.At least for the first 7/8 weeks he was outstanding.
Thomas Waldrom is a No.8,cant play any other position. He will not be an AB.Even though he had an impressive season.Primary skill is as a ball carrier,AB’s have plenty in that category.
Tenarau Latimer is going to be an AB’s,has long been touted as a future replacement for McCaw-even was recruited by Robbie Deans at the Crusaders before he was transfered to Chiefs.Has has an immense S14
Liam Messam is also going to get an extended run in the Black jersey after he made his debut in the EOYT last yr.Great potential there,a physical specimen-had all the tools to be a superstar. He has been the Chiefs best player in 2009
29 May 2009, 12:04 pm
#13 Hurricane: Munster put two tries past the ABs, NZ had to load the team to save themselves from goin down to a club 2nd XV and then relied on an froggie/irish ref to get them out of trouble at Twickers by making England play with 12 men
29 May 2009, 12:08 pm
#22 Big Hit: need some tissues big hit
lets compare how many times Munster have played the ABs and how many times Eng have, Munster probably have the better record in that regard
bwahahahaha
29 May 2009, 12:16 pm
#22 Big Hit:
hahaha we loaded our team did we.Here is the AB team on that night
Team: Cory Jane; Hosea Gear, Anthony Tuitavake, Isaia Toeava, Joe Rokocoko; Stephen Donald, Piri Weepu (captain); Liam Messam, Scott Waldrom, Ross Filipo, Jason Eaton, Adam Thomson, Ben Franks, Corey Flynn, Jamie Mackintosh.
Replacements: Hikawera Elliott, John Afoa, Brad Thorn, Kieran Read, Alby Mathewson, Richard Kahui, Mils Muliaina.
So tell me where is our loaded team,i mean come on not even the 5th best flanker McCaw was playing, not even the 6th best fly half Carter was playing, get a grip
29 May 2009, 12:18 pm
#22 Big Hit:

So Lawman you’re still alive and well here in Keoland.
Glad you made it.
But ***** me,……… You, Piet and Groot (The Unholy Trinty) were lucky.
But, let us not dwell on the past…..Go the Chiefies.
8).
29 May 2009, 13:28 pm
#24 Hurricane: when the game was going Munster’s way and they were gonna win you brought on Thorn, Muliaina and Afoa whereas Munster only had 3rd string players on the bench with 11+ Irish internationals couldn’t play. Poor show.
#34 Hurricane: NZ and Aus had the rules changed before that series to rob SA of their strengths. Let’s face it, under normal rules it would’ve been 2-0 to SA on NZ soil if they hadn’t brought in ELVs.
29 May 2009, 13:29 pm
#30 cane: moi?
29 May 2009, 13:40 pm
#41 Big Hit:
In a thousand phuckin years, it has never been 2-0 against NZ, in NZ, by any team.
And an extreme rarity, on a home and away basis.
I do however agree with you, that Munsterites show far more spirit than the National Team of England.
It is indeed rare, for us to come to some form of consensus.
29 May 2009, 13:53 pm
Funny, this news does not devastate me!
29 May 2009, 13:59 pm
#41 Big Hit: Do you support Munster in the Heineken Cup cos I haven’t seen such an affinity with a club side before. Funny that as I thought you would support an england side?
29 May 2009, 14:01 pm
Hopefully McCaw will be back for the Tri-Nations, I don’t want any lame excuses when we whip you this year.
All we need now is the right selections from snorre…
29 May 2009, 14:06 pm
#46 Blouste: have to agree Blouste, the Kiwis will waa waa waa if Mc Caw doesnt play.
Bring him on, they are there for the taking ths year.
29 May 2009, 14:10 pm
#46 Blouste:
If you want “lame excuses” Bluoste….Your Own ProteaBok supporters come up with them week after week on here.
or should that be Week after Weak?
29 May 2009, 14:13 pm
#48 cane: You sound like your describing Ritchie Mc Caw now, what with using words like Lame and Weak?
29 May 2009, 14:18 pm
#48 cane: we have to use them here.
on silverfern you either have to have had a frontal lobotomy, be a supercilious pedantic pimple factory or squeal like a cane rat in a leopards jaws when your side loses but saffas can ***** off.
we are much more tolerant here at keo.kkk.anc
