Sharks cruise to comfortable win

The Sharks moved up to second place on the Currie cup log with a 44-15 victory over the Leopards in Rustenburg on Friday.

The coastal boys initially struggled to break down a determined Leopards outfit, but once fatigue set in for the hosts, the Sharks began to cut loose running in six tries.

The Leopards’ fighting spirit meant the defending champions had to wait until nearly half an hour’s play before they eventually went over for their first try, scored by scrumhalf Charl Mcleod from a quick-tap penalty.

Flyhalf Juan Hernandez gave a good account of himself in his first outing. Unfortunately he suffered a dead leg early in the game, and despite playing through the pain, he was replaced after half-time by youngster Guy Cronje.

Despite the lose of Hernandez the Sharks dominated the second stanza scoring 31 points. Chris Jordaan, Jaque Botes, Craig Burden and Stefan Terblanche all crossed the line for the sharks, while Mcleod bagged a brace.

While the bonus point victory sees the Sharks progress up the table, the Leopards stay rooted to the foot of the table and still searching for their first win of the season.

    Cannot comment on game as it was not televised. Watched the Bulls vs Cheetahs and I still want to know what the fuss about Hougaard is. Looks more like a hothead than hotshot. Kabamba showed that he really gets a raw deal at Free State. I still maintain Naka is way out of his depth.
