Tasman trounce Auckland
27 Sep 2009
Kiwi minnows Tasman humbled Auckland 12-8 in Nelson on Sunday.
The win sees Chris Jack’s side move into fifth place on the New Zealand Cup log, while Auckland have slid to seventh.
A try by Tasman captain Andrew Goodman saw the underdogs go to half-time with a 7-3 lead. They scored a second after the break through Blair Cook.
Auckland’s reserve hooker Pat Leafa scored with five minutes remaining to set up a dramatic finish, but Tasman were able to hold on for a deserved win.

Are my eyes deceiving me?
Since when was a 4 point win a trouncing?
Tasman has had a tremendous season and Auckland a very average one. Its a great win for the Makos but not that unexpected I dont believe.
For one thing Tony Johnson will be happy

hehe, yesterday Ryan stated “In Saturday’s other match Hawke’s Bay edged Manawatu 32-20.”
A trounce is smaller than an edge.
A great result though. Will be interesting if the NZRU can’t eliminate a South Island side. I think that we will have 14 teams again next year

#4 WP_: Yep. The score in the last 10 minutes of that thriller was NZ 21-17 Japan. Close enough…
