Ospreys resist Clermont fight back
Clermont rebounded strongly in their European Cup match against the Ospreys but it wasn’t enough to avoid a 25-24 defeat at the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh side had established a commanding 22-3 lead at the break, having crossed the whitewash thrice through Tommy Bowe, Ryan Jones and Dan Biggar.
But the French club hit back strongly thereafter, scoring three converted tries in 12 minutes after half-time to take the lead. However, Biggar sunk a penalty to edge his side ahead, and they wouldn’t relinquish that lead.
In Sunday’s other match Stade Francais registered a valuable 29-27 away victory at Bath. Julien Dupy kicked 21 points in his team’s win, including a last minute penalty.
The hosts led 21-12 at the break and 27-21 with just four minutes remaining, before Ollie Phillips gave Stade hope thanks to a superb try.
The former Newcastle winger supplied a fine finish after impressive hands out wide provided a hint of an overlap. Dupy missed the conversion, but made sure with the decisive penalty.
