Lote eyes Bok clash

Lote Tuqiri would love to make his Leicester debut against the Springbok XV on Friday.

The Tigers announced the Tuqiri signing on Monday, but coach Richard Cockerill is yet to name his side for the Boks opening match of the tour. Tuqiri is expected to be on the bench and he would relish an opportunity if it came his way.

‘I thought I’d got away from the South Africans but first game back and they stick me up against the world champions,’ Tuqiri told BBC Sport. ‘Hopefully Cockers [Cockerill] will throw me in there somewhere and I’ll see how I go.’

After his Australian contract being terminated for disciplinary reasons, the winger is looking for a fresh experience before he is likely to return to rugby league in his home country.

‘I live for the big stage and Leicester are a big club,’ he said. ‘At this time in my career, I want to be in a competitive team and Leicester is that.

‘Leicester as a club has to take a pat on the back, they have a real good name internationally.’
