Horan out of Ireland squad
7 Nov 2009
Prop Marcus Horan has been ruled out of Ireland’s squad for their Test against the Springboks.
Horan will miss all the November internationals due to a head injury and he’ll be back within eight weeks.
‘Following further tests this week, Horan underwent a routine medical procedure and will undergo a period of rest over the next number of weeks,’ said an IRFU statement. ‘It is expected that he will be available to Munster and Ireland after the New Year.’
Jerry Flannery has been included in their squad to play Australia next week, to alleviate their hooker problems with Rory Best out.

#3 Lions_Soutie: The problem you have got is that we didnt beat them in the six nations!!

Bad news for Ireland, they have ZERO front row depth. They would kill to have people like Wian Du Preez, WP Nel and Wicus Blaauw.

Yip, England did not beat them last year but in 2008, my mistake.

#5 fran1807: agreed. Its a big problem. We do fortunately have a young guy (just 21) called Cian Healy who was possibly going to get the nod ahead of horan for the boks game anyway. Hes very good and will only get better but we need more depth at prop in particular.

#7 AlanD: Ja ja I know him, plays for Leinster. He’s a converted centre so he’s mad quick. Certainly very talented but still very green though. Is Hayes still banned?

Good news! Now Smit can boss around the rookie loosehead! Healy’s probably Ireland’s answer to the Beast, but not as good as the Beast!

#8 fran1807: hayes ban is over this weekend so he will be playing next week v OZ and on 28th against Boks assuming no injury. I’d be interested to see Smit try boss Healy – it may happen but I doubt it. He is young and green but he has more than held his own against some good props around europe

#10 AlanD: If he does hold is own in the autumn tests I think its best they pick him above Horan. Same with RO’G, Johnny Sexton should be the Irish fly-half in my opinion.

I’m sorry for Marcus but this is great news for Ireland as it forces Kidney to choose Healy who has arguably been the best prop in Ireland recently. He’s only 21 and he’s already held his own with the best Europe have to offer e.g Martin Castrogiovanni, BJ Botha, Adam Jones, Vickey, Sheridan, Hayes etc. Mark my words, this lad is destined for stardom.

#13 jockstrap: Now now Jock that is not good to wish an injury on a player
Don’t worry, I pray for one everytime Andries Strauss starts for the SHarks
