Saru adopts new constitution

Saru have adopted a new constitution and have unified the amateur and professional arms of the union.

At an extraordinary general council meeting of the South African Rugby Union (Saru) on Monday, SA Rugby Pty (Ltd) dissolved, with their current functions and commercial assets transferred to Saru.

The new structure will be governed by an interim committee formed from the board of SA Rugby (Pty) Ltd and the management committee of Saru.

‘There was a robust debate around some items of the constitution but I am very pleased that we had unanimous agreement,’ said Saru president Oregan Hoskins.

‘We will have a more streamlined and responsive structure as a result of this change and it bodes well for the future of South African rugby.’

The new organisation will be governed by an executive committee. Elections will take place at the Saru annual meeting in March 2010.

MY OPINION . Saru can do no wrong in my eyes. They have won us a world cup and a tri nations trophy . Whatever they do we should support because they are always right.

This is an oportunity for these Keo scribes to really dissect and analyse the full meaning of this new Saru initiative.

How will this assist Black rugby?

Will be beneficial to smaller Unions?

Will this resolve the issue with whites only controlled Unions and more importantly white control of franchises?

Is this merely a case of same notes but different musical chairs?

Will this ease Supersport monopoly on Rugby coverage?

What about Vodacom’s pimping (not MTV pimping)of Rugby?

Please do something more in depth. It does really have to focus on the issues I raised.

What does this mean? 4th stringers of unions will be chosen for Springbok squads as apposed to 3rd. And SA Rugby will go to ****.
