USA claim RWC spot

USA have qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup after a 27-6 second leg victory against Uruguay.

Lions loose forward and USA skipper Todd Clever grabbed a brace as his team beat the South Americans 54-28 on aggregate.

The Eagles will find themselves in Pool C alongside the Wallabies, Ireland and another European qualifier.

This means American head coach Eddie O’Sullivan will face his former side, Ireland, who he guided to third place on the world rankings.

Uruguay will still be able to qualify through the repechage, where nations have a second opportunity to qualify for the competition in New Zealand.

Hey. Will be great to have them there. They just need to learn you can’t win the game by having 15 bodybuilders on the park. They need to find a good balance.

Number of SA, NZ and Canadian players will have a chance at the WC again. :)

Can you imagine if the Yanks took it seriously and started pumping some of the resources into rugby over there that they do for other sports? World rugby would take on a different look…

Can’t wait For Ireland to use the bench and blood some new players against the USA

Something steady Eddie never seemed to feel the need to do with Ire

I hope Russians will join Yankies in WC along with Georgians, of course.

Just imagine if early rugby had a fixed set of rules instead of everyone experimenting with their own rules. It would have yielded one global game – no gridiron, league, union etc and countries like the USA and Canada would also have been powerhouses, Australia stronger and NZ and SA not as dominant.

    @Yetirat:

That day is coming closer. USA-Rugby just brokered their first nationwide coverage of domestic rugby this year which should be online in 12mths, next season. This will allow local-based players to be fully-pro albeit humble money compared to those in other US-sports. Its growing as a niche sport, atleast awareness is there with Ivy League players being prevalent in NYC and D.C.

This move apparently was the 1st hoop USA-rugby had to jump thru if they ever (which seems inevitable) wish to join the Super competition in future.

    USA-Rugby has an exciting future.

Its that Ngwenya oke – he’s looking to have another run at (around)Habana :-)

Todd’s S14 experience (even with the lowly Lions) seems to have helped him

@The Dude: I like it! As long as its in that order ;-)

Congrats to the Eagles I am glad to see you there, good luck hope you guys can knock over the Wallabies. But you will need to play a few top line teams before you come to NZ so you can come upto par with the strong rugby nations, otherwise youll be just making up the numbers. You should play the Junior All Blacks or Aussie A or the Emerging Boks or the B squads of the 6 nations so you can get the speed up.
