The Bulls coaching staff know what kind of pattern they want to play & actually contract players that can execute that specific game plan, not like the SA coaching regime that believes that a good player can play anywhere, as if when they put the green & gold over their shoulders the miraculously turn into Super Rugby player that can turn into a world class tight head.
De Wet Barry will be able to fill the shoes of a Wynand Olivier as they play very similar. The Bulls know that the PDV propaganda machine has kicked in and with the help of secret agents ala Tim Noakes & John Robbie pushing the fatigue thing into the red, they the Bulls will be forced to rest their Spring Boks. The Bulls actually like winning ( and rightfully their fans demand it) so they must have constituency plans in place to snooker any possible scenarios.

Barry might just have one last blast with the correct training and mental coaching and the younger players can learn a lot from him.

Sometimes age is overrated: Frank Bunce was 30 when he made his debut for the AB’s. He went on and played 55 tests and at 36 was the anchor of the AB backline. Together with Walter little they formed one of the best centre combinations of that era.

Linford Christie was 36 when he broke the 200m indoor world record (20,25s).

Who knows… if he bites on his teeth and lift up his balls and train with believe… he can make a valued contribution from the bottom end of the payroll?

That is all the bulls need now a wp has been he was an arsehole with province and he won`t be any different with the bulls except he will be slower if that is possible.Saturdays game proved a couple of things john smit is DEFFINATELY not a tighthead and never will be,as soon as he went to tighthead on saturday the irish began to take the upper hand in the scrums and up to that point the boks had the upper hand,and i thought bj botha had a good game at tighthead.Another thing that stood out for me that giraffe bekker will NEVER make a test lock he is ok for the 2nd raters at newlands but he is not ok for the boks.Who will take over from bakkies when he retires from test rugby as he was sorely missed on saturday.The one lock who i think could become the next bakkies used to play for the bulls until they let him go to northampton and i still cannot understand why and he is Juandre Kruger i think he is a terriffic prospect and i hope he comes back to the bulls,another lock i was impressed with played for sarries v boks and he is marius botha and i think he is worth looking at.

CJ VD Linde is one of the most overrated props to ever play for SA.

If he isn’t hanging around on the wing, he is getting nailed in the scrum. He is not our answer to the tight head position!!

Personally I’d start with our more mobile and lineout orientated front row and have 2 beast scrummers on the bench. No hooker (stupid). If things are going pear stick on BJ and Wiaan/Heinke (not sure we have beastly loose heads?)

@grant10: Ireland will not win the world cup at all, so bank that genius. What are their odds. Safe prediction. Good news about BJ, CJ has a similar bodyshape to JS, we need our 2 THs in the 22 to be completely different. BJ, a typical tough scrummager and a larger less technical Smit (or CJ).

@grant10: If you recall that game, Danie actually packed down on the TH side to help CJ out. Also this year. JS vs Sheridan, no retreat. JS vs Jones, no retreat, JS vs Woodcock (3 times), no retreat.

@justrugby: I wonder if Ireland are panicking about their poor scrum. Surely Irish hearts are scared now that they have been bested twice in the scrums. Gert Smal must be fearing the axe? Note the dripping sarcasm please. Also many people on this site were deeming this a strong selection, yet we lost to Ireland. Personally I believe the French were a better side. They would have beaten most sides that day.

@Ratel Brussow (MSIUR): Smit must compete for 2 spot at Boks…if he is good enough [ personally i think he is ] then he must play.

CJ,BJ or WP Nel at 3…never Smit….he is and never will be a tighthead international prop.

If the Sharks want to play him at 3…cool…no stress for me….if boks play him at 3 i fear for my health….heart may fail!
