Barry’s not a Bull

De Wet Barry will play in the 2010 Vodacom Cup for Eastern Province and only be called upon by the Bulls in case of emergency.

This was the official line from the Bulls, who were responding to media reports that the former Springbok inside centre had joined in the franchise for their 2010 Super Rugby campaign.

They sought to clarify the situation, saying, ‘Barry is going to train with the Bulls in George [at the pre-season camp], but he will play for Eastern Province in next year’s Vodacom Cup and they will continue to pay his salary. If the Bulls need him, say for instance in case of injury, they will be able to call on him.’

Wynand Olivier will be the incumbent 12 for the tournament, with cover being provided by Stefan Watermeyer.

De Wet is a better No. 12 than Wynand, any day of the week, even in his advanced years.

@grant10: Just when I thought I was beginning to understand you Saffas!! :-)
I’m doing fine, Cape Town sounds a whole lot better than here, mist like Croake Park yesterday and driving rain today!
Lunch in the sun with staff sounds excellent…..enjoy!

@Transformation: Tricky one, perhaps call it a ‘first name’ in that case!

  • 15.Sharksgirl: Reply to this comment

@Dawn: Doesn’t look like it has a chance to. Its raining and not a little piece of blue sky and not a wif of a breeze to push the rain away. It looks set :( I am starting to feel like I am in Europe and not in the normally sunny KZN!

@Sharksgirl: That will not be helping your all over tan!! ;-)

    Bring on the sun!

@gunther: However, no offence to Eastern Province…..London does sound a bit more ‘exciting’!!

  • 19.carol: Reply to this comment

@Dawn: Our players are used to playing in the damp conditions, they should not be subject to a type of ‘Morne Mist Moment’ during play. It could favour our players……
Wet balls are quite common!! ;-)

@carol: De Wet came to our church in London and our pastor was telling me that he was sending out the usual welcome letter to new people but thought this oke had filled in his details wrong (being a saffa and all that) so he writes to him “Dear Barry De Wet” and sends it off without checking with one of us. Anyway, needless to say he felt lick a bit of a ***.

    @Sharksgirl:

All cricket matches should be moved to Cape Town.

    Forthwith!

    No Duckworth Lewis!

@Dawn: That is fine by me Dawn, don’t watch much criket, just cannot understand it, and I have a short attention span, cannot sit and watch the same test for 5 days. Limited overs do sometimes attract me if there is no other sport to watch.

    @gunther: A bonus….!
    London, England is hard work!!

@SpringbokSarah: Have you missed the school bus or something?

@zimshark: So now if I meet Fourie du Preez I now find out I do not call him Fourie!! This is all too much!!
    I do call Victor Matfield, Victor don’t I? ;-)

  • 27.zimshark: Reply to this comment

@carol: As long as you don’t say to Frans Steyn “Steyn Frans” (see what I did there?)

  • 28.carol: Reply to this comment

@zimshark: On the ball today!!

Wonder how Fransie is coping with Lingo! I watched Percy in his early days playing for Perpignan and he was waving his arms about like a traffic cop as his French was not so hot!

  • 29.zimshark: Reply to this comment

@carol: Frans used to wave his arms around playing with the Sharks and Boks so probably still doing the same – he’s probably taught them all afrikaans by now

Now why would anyone want to lick De Wet Barry? Weird pastors in the UK if you ask me.

  • 31.Karoolander: Reply to this comment

@skopskiet: Yes, any day of the week, except on Gameday.

With that comment i came to the conclusion that you are nothing but a Stirrer.Hence i will no longer take you seriously. Not that i did in any case.

Does Keo reward you some way? You know, for trying to keep the hits up?
