Matriculants added to SA U20 mix

Carl Wegner, Nizaam Carr, Siyamthanda Kolisi and Heinrich Marcus have been selected for the SA U20 trials.

Wegner (Grey College), Carr (Bishops), Kolisi (Grey PE) and Marcus (Excelsior) are incorporated into the 46-man squad following their outstanding performances at this year’s Craven Week. The training camp will run from 5 to 10 December in Saldanha.

Wegner, Carr and Kolisi were involved in SA Rugby’s U18 High Performance squad and are selected in the SA U20s trials following their consistent performances for the SA Schools in internationals against the England U18s and an Italy XV earlier this year.

Marcus, who was one of the outstanding players for Western Province in the Craven Week, also represented the SA U18 High Performance squad in international friendlies against France and Namibia.

Golden Lions U19 centre Wandile Mjekevu, another participant in the SA U18 High Performance programme, has also been selected to the Saldanha trials.

‘This camp will be conducted by the SA U20 coaches, management and the national selectors, who will select a squad of 32 players at the conclusion of this camp to tour the UK and France in January next year,’ said Mervin Green, Saru Manager – Playing the Game.

‘Our strategic plan is to ensure that our U20 players gain international exposure against the world’s top teams. We had a tour to the UK and France arranged this year, but had to postpone it due to the U20 Six Nations competition.

‘With next year’s IRB Junior World Championship in mind, we are trying to expose our team to play in as many international friendlies as possible to gear themselves up for next year’s event.’

Kene Okafor is a lock, not a hooker. Bloody retards!

You’ve left out the names of Sibusisu Sithole, Shaun Malton and Monde Hadebe as well.

Why take children to war? No way that they are in the same condition as players that have played u/19 this year. The Bulls played with children in the u/19 semi’s against the Lions and got “klapped”

I also heard that Sbura made the squad.

Garth April (Florida Hoerskool), Lulama Mdzoyi (Pearson High), Siyasanga Mkunku (Harmony Sports Academy), Lubabalo Mthembu (Dale College) and Louis (Rick) Schreuder (Paul Roos Gim) are also still in Matric. Let the other kids have some spot light as well.

Come now JC. I know that and this isn’t even my job. Gotta be more comprehensive than that.

Nizaan Carr is gifted….A future Bok for sure,a trye blindside. Also suited to playing 8 as well.

Siyamthanda Kolisi is a powerhouse.A man amongst kids.great hands too.Another future Bok prospect.

Both kids will acquit themselves well.

Actually mshini, Carr is an openside mate. Not a blind side, but anyway, he’s an equally good 8.

He plays to the ball and is very good at the breakdown
