Joubert to run with Lions?
JP Joubert is currently training with the Lions squad and there’s a good chance he’ll play for them in the Super 14.
According to Die Volksblad, there is a dispute between Joubert and his current franchise, the Cheetahs, over the validity of his contract. An arbitrator will decide on his future on 21 January, but according to the newspaper, Joubert is already involved in pre-season training with the Lions.
Alwyn Myburgh, Joubert’s legal adviser had earlier indicated that Joubert’s Cheetahs contract is invalid because according to him, clauses were changed afterwards.
If Joubert manages to free himself from his contract, which allegedly runs until October 2011, he will start at No 9 for the Lions while Jano Vermaak recovers from injury.

You mean THAT JP Joubert? Not the other one?
December 4th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Actually, who on earth is JP Joubert, anyway?
December 4th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Good heavens the poaching and scandal continues unabated….blood on everyones hands it seems….
And i reckon a lot more to happen over next few weeks…..
Muir is doing his homework….
December 4th, 2009 at 9:27 am
So someone is actually taking legal action to go and play for the Lions.WTF!
December 4th, 2009 at 9:27 am
@grant10: Where are all the Lion fans who were name calling the Sharks and WP? Isn’t this the case of the pot calling the kettle black?
December 4th, 2009 at 9:29 am
@Sharksgirl: agree….blood all over the room….everyone got it on there hands it seems….
Poor Cheetaks….ai it must be frustrating for them!
Any news out the Sharks camp? Seems it may be Plumtrees last season there?
December 4th, 2009 at 9:38 am
@grant10: Grant not much, Plum is under pressure at the Sharks and his contract ends this season (2010). Cooper has now stated that he is leaving the Canes, a position Plum has always wanted. Plum coached the Wellington Lions to some success, so may get the position. This leaves the Sharks, there was talk sometime back that Mitchel was wanting to come to the Sharks, as his contract with the Force also ends in 2010. Boydd is coming back to the Sharks for this S14, could he be earmarcked to take over from Plum? Unfortunately we know very little and Oom does not like the media so we are treated a bit like mushrooms. I just hope that whoever coaches is good and comes with new ideas, ’cause this season barring a few matches the Sharks were clueless
We also need a proper backs coach!!!!
December 4th, 2009 at 10:01 am
@Sharksgirl: Head coach at Sharks is a peach of a job so best Sharks employ the very best of the best. Without doubt the Sharks have been struggling with a game plan….backs at time poor , probably a lack of real quality depth. Barritt, Steyn are huge losses, not easy to replace. Murray and Adi had form amd injury problems and terblanche must be nearing the end. Ludick will assist to a degree, but still shy of some true gamebreakers in the backs….
You know how i feel about the Smit at 3….if he is earmarked for a move to 2 that is going to open a can of worms for Plum as well….then the Ruan Pienaar story too….so it is interesting times down your way!
Stormers need to sign CJ or BJ…..then its game on!
December 4th, 2009 at 10:10 am
@grant10: That is the thing Grant, Plum is a specialist forwards coach and knows little about back play. He leaves all the back’s training to Bash, (I know this from a coach at the Academy that I had the great fortune of meeting during the BIL test in DBN, we were at the same box) Bash in my opinion may have been a good player etc. etc. but our backline is clueless and powerless, we need someone there that can get our backs to fire, and a head coach that realises that that is what is missing at the Sharks.
We have just signed Stemmet from you guys, do you watch varsity cup? How good is he?
Waylon is staying with the Sharks till the end of this season, it will all depend on how his season is going to go, but I believe we may see the old Waylon back as he will want to fight for his jersey, or earn himself a new one
Barritt was our single biggest loss, and I said so at the time.
December 4th, 2009 at 10:14 am
@Sharksgirl: Jean Stemmett is very capable….may take a while to find his feet at the higher level. Waylon is a class act, pity about the injuries….Barritt simply the best 12 imo…..a huge loss.
Hope the Marius Joubert talks bear fruit , he has been tremendous in France.
Best of luck….i will be watching the drama unfold with interest.

December 4th, 2009 at 10:33 am

December 4th, 2009 at 10:53 am
@Sharksgirl:
If we cant get Campese again….We should should use a legend of the game like Henry “lem Honibal!
Were is he by the way?
December 4th, 2009 at 11:01 am
@usualsuspect:
Farming bananas near Bergville.
December 4th, 2009 at 11:03 am
@usualsuspect: Wouldn’t that be great? Honniball and Teichman, both with successful businesses in KZN! Teichman is in engineering contracting, my company has used him on ocasion Honniball a farmer, Juba as well, owns Minolta here, and is involved with the Sharks in some manner, would really be great to have legends back at the Sharks.
Campese really got our backline going, didn’t he, we have not looked the same since he left, yet the players are the same. Or at least were the same till Fransie and Brad left.
December 4th, 2009 at 11:10 am
@Sharksgirl:
The Rolls Royce Himself OWNS Minolta?Wow,these guys are realy coining it hey!We should realy get these guys in,even if it is as consultants!Look at what slap chips did at the blue bulls!These guys are so highly respected by the players,they bring more than jus the rugby skills!
What ever happned to Jeremy Thompson?
December 4th, 2009 at 11:18 am
@usualsuspect: The Rolls Royce’s business is in Umgeni road a stone throw from the Stadium (near Makro). Juba, Honniball, and Teichmann are repsonsible for getting me hooked on a. Rugby and b. Sharks, still my heroes! Remember in 95 WC when Juba played with a broken finger? I have no idea where Jeremy Thompson is.
December 4th, 2009 at 11:47 am
@Sharksgirl:
I remeber,in the rain,in Durban,he was playing with a broken Hand!
They also got me hooked on the sharks,and eversince then i have been a loyal supporter!The center Pairing of **** Muir and Jeremy Thomson was one I also loved to watch!We had James Small and Kobus van der westhuizen as our wings!Marks Andrews ho went to my school in East London was another hero of mine!Back then,I would like to think the sharks had it all!I remeber watching this team playing in East London,and they we just God’s gift to Rugby in my eyes!
December 4th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

December 4th, 2009 at 1:43 pm

Jeremy Thompson is involved with a sports clothing company I think, in Durban. Fast man on a mountain bike. Also seen on mountain bikes (not very fast though) are Wayne Fyvie and Rob Kempson – cycling as a team. Feel sorry for the bikes, big lads both of them. All 3 could be useful in Sharks coaching.
December 5th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
who’s he?
December 6th, 2009 at 8:11 am
@husky:
Each one of the 1990-1995 could have played a role in the Sharks coaching team today: Stransky, Jamison, Botha and Visaggie, Lud Muller, John Allen, Aitken, Atherton, Fyvvi, Kempson or Guy Kebble.
They seemd to me today a much more technical in their approach to the game, they did the basics right, can someone REALLY compare Ndungane and Pietersen to James Small and Cabus or Tony Watson for that matter?
Power, Speed, hands, passes?
December 6th, 2009 at 8:13 am
@Hondo:
Forgot to mention Whal Bartman, he certainly could help with the forwards
