Brumbies eye S14 title
15 Dec 2009
Brumbies skipper Stephen Hoiles believes the current squad are strong enough to win next year’s Super 14.
Two-time champions the Brumbies last won the tournament in 2004 with a 47-38 victory against the Crusaders, but the Canberra-based franchise have suffered a slump in recent years as they failed to make the semi-finals since then.
However, major changes have been made to boost their chances next year.
The Brumbies have bolstered their squad with the signings of Matt Giteau, Rocky Elsom, Josh Valentine and Justin Harrison and have also launched a new kit to give the team a fresh-look.
While they will have a formidable squad, Hoiles believes his team will need to work hard to triumph next season.
‘We’re expecting big things from this side next year,’ Hoiles told rugbyheaven.com.au. ‘But just by having a good list and expectation, it doesn’t mean you can be complacent. We’d be fools to think that just by signing some players and finishing in the top half of the comp last season is going to win us the competition in 2010.
‘We’ve got to do a lot of work, we have to be smart about it and understand how we want to play, and I think we’re on track to doing that.’

@klippies101: Too true. Probably my one concern is there is a lot of current Wallabies in that team who won’t be allowed back to training until January.
That only really gives them a few weeks to train with the rest of the squad before the season kicks off.

Looks like they may be the best Aussie side next year, toppling Tahs. Both very strong contenders for playoffs along with the Bulls, Sharks, Crusaders and Hurricanes.
