Stormers to stay local
18 Dec 2009
Severe water shortages in the Southern Cape have seen the Stormers cancelling their camp at Pinnacle Point during the first week of January.
According to a statement, the team will remain in Cape Town, where they will prepare for the coming season at their High Performance Centre in Bellville. The Stormers will again assemble on 4 January to continue with preparations ahead of the Super 14.
New recruits Bryan Habana and Jaque Fourie will also join up with the squad on 4 January. Other new faces include Fabian Juries and Lionel Cronje who have both signed for WP from the Cheetahs, and Argentinean international prop Eusebio Guinazu will eligible for the Stormers squad after recently signing for Boland.
Conrad Jantjes, Morgan Newman, Nick Koster and Dylan Des Fountain will still be on rehabilitation programmes in January following long-term injuries.

Guinazu will be vital.
Along with him, the Stormers – with Brok Harris, Wicus Blaauw, JC Kritzinger and JD Moller – finally seem to have some decent prop cover.

it must be said, WP have signed just about everyone availible in SA rugby.(Except earl rose)
A strong looking squad.
Having spent that sort of money, I’d EXPECT to see trophies next season in the Cape.
but as has been the way for many seasons, WP is the death of flyhalves. And you need a good pack and decent flyhalf to win the S14.

Allister Coetzee confirmed that Nick Koster will still be used as a winger. WTF???

@Brigadier Van Zyl:
The WP pack looked pretty decent against the much-vaunted Bulls pack in the Currie Cup semi-final.
@grant10:
Guinazu is a tighthead who also plays hooker – he was called up to the Argentine squad in the 2007 World Cup after Mario Ledesma was injured to cover exactly that position.
With Tiaan Liebenberg, Deon Fourie and now (potentially) Eusebio Guinazu, also means lots of cover at hooker.
Locks are looking decent for once, and at loosie we have more than enough talent and depth.

@wpw: I read a while back that Koster has chosen to stay at wing!!!!

As someone who is not up to date with the Western Cape water situation, what has the water shortage got to do with the Stormers camp?
18 Dec 2009, 16:56 pm
Dantalion, no water to go with their wiskeys. No water to wash and spike their hair etc
