De Villiers stars in Munster show

Jean de Villiers scored Munster’s third try in their impressive 37-14 away win against Perpignan.

De Villiers had been dropped for the past two matches, but came on as a reserve for Lifeimi Mafi with 18 minutes to go and starred in their bonus point win in France. With the score at 23-14 with 10 minutes to go, De Villiers beat four tacklers to produce one of his trademark breaks to secure the result.

Munster couldn’t score a try last week in the same fixture, but produced an outstanding bonus-point performance to knock the French side out the group.

In other results, Gloucester beat Glasgow 19-6 and Stade Francais defeated Ulster 29-16.

    did BJ play for Ulster?

reaching grant (the author not G10) he only played 18 minutes and Munster were on top but it was a good finish and does his chances of a starting place no harm.

@grant10: he did but it wasn’t televised, Ulster went down in Paris to Stade.

But as Mr Hit mentioned above, Munster were well on top.

Still good to see from Jean. Classy player.

interesting perspective on the nz stuff site about all blacks dominate the decade, and it includes the top test team of the decade. stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/3179823/All-Blacks-dominate-decade-sans-World-Cups

the team includes, fdp, matfield, juan smith and john smit. honourable mentions for percy, jaque fourie, jdv, bakkies, os and burger.

worried that we havent had a prop really dominate for a very long time!

Now this is the Munster De Villiers signed up for, the side that can thrash the French Champions away from home. They’re back baby.

Yes I meant to say bad form for not mentioning the best SA player on the pitch Wian Du Preez, he was impressive today. Hopefully Munster can hold on to him after his two months are up, which honestly wouldn’t surprise me. Players who go to Munster always seem to stay longer than they’re supposed to.

Every time I see Wian du Preez on screen for Munster, I keep having to ask myself who he is, forgetting that he’s in for Horan. Good player, carries well.

JDV’s try was immense – his power is truly astonishing. Mafi hasn’t justified his place in the last two matches and, as many of the commentators stated at the time, Jean needed that try to properly establish himself as a Munster player.

Tony McGahan was very complimentary of his reaction to being dropped – he seems like the consummate professional, which is something you might not always get with somebody who’s achieved everything such as himself. Here’s hoping he sticks around in Ireland until the end of the season (and this coming from a Leinster fan!)

It takes time for a new player to fit into a team especially when it is a completly different culture and playing style and enviroment. This can be seen in all sports. Freddie was absolutely rubbish for the Sharks at first but slowly got into it.

@grant10: John Smit is probably itching to get your advice on front row play grant, get down to that next book signing, our country needs you to explain to john how “turbo reverse” is bad and playing any prop at 3 ahead of him, whilst not ensuring victory, at least prevents you from having nightmares

while you are there, just whisper “luke for captain 2011, whaddayathink smitty?” in johns ear and i am sure you will get all the honesty you require.

    lmao!

  • 22.grant10: Reply to this comment

Smit is no fool….doesent need my advice….only needs to read the latest SA Rugby Magazine to see what the rugby intelligentsia are saying.

Bur sharks go ahead and play sMIT AT 3….PLEASE DO, ESPECIALLY AGAINST STORMERS….

wOULD BE NICE TO GET A 3 RD WIN IN A ROW OVER THE SHARKS.

  • 23.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @grant10: :lol:

super 14 grant, thats where its at.

in the games wp won, was smit there or not?

remind me the stats this year when smitty was playing for the sharks vs wp in the s14 please?

again, give smitty advice at the book signing, go for it!

after all, you played at a high level, even if it was in the backline, and you obviously were close enough to the pack to master the intricacies of front row play.

you and sarah, go tell the turbo reverse sp-ecialist to leave luke alone and play 2 because, because, because!

he is a nice guy, i am sure he will heed your advice

  • 24.grant10: Reply to this comment

the mere fact that you Rangerman still indicate the view that Smit at 3 is even remotely a good idea shows your complete lack of rugby acumen , hence my preference not to engage with you on rugby matters…..

i listen in awe with your wildlife and related tales…..but when it comes to rugby i would sincerely rather talk to my Retriever than you …..you are , together with Ratel Brussow or whatever his nick is, undoubtedly the most 1 eyed, brainwashed ,idiot i have ever encountered on this blog.

  • 25.grant10: Reply to this comment

you the only guy i know that believes a auto turbo boost reversegear scrum is a good thing…..bloody hell man….

anyway, off to the Waterfront to do some shopping, Rangerman, have a good day. If i do bump into Smit i will be sure to tell him that i believe he must go back to hooker if he seriously harbours the desire to go to WC 2011 …..and certainly will mention hat the Luke jibes were, in my opinion, uncalled for.

  • 26.rangerman: Reply to this comment

    @grant10: thats just fine grant.

me, i think you have some very good points but you tend to get your teeth into an idea and then harp on about it until the very sight of one of your posts makes a lot of people ill as we are subjected to the 112th repetition of the same thing from you.

you have called for smits retirement, for his removal from the 3 position, for luke to be captain for 2011 wc and you think i am brainwashed?

btw, dont get upset man, you were saying to sarah that you wanted an honest chat with John and i just encouraged you?

    what gives?

  • 27.rangerman: Reply to this comment

@grant10: have a nice day grant, and i look forward to JS once again turbo reversing your ideas on his suitablility for the no 3 position, as he did in hamilton……

  • 28.grant10: Reply to this comment

my final take on Smit for everyones clarity.

He must move to 2 if he wants to remain in contention for a Bok spot, he is not an international class 3.

I am happy that he start as Bok 2 , but Gary Botha and Bismarck will obviously push him hard here. Right now i would choose Smit if i was coach.

If PDV says Smit needs to compete for the 3 jersey, i would, if i was Smit, retire.

Luke Watson would, in my opinion, become a Bok skipper contender if anything had to happen to Matfield, if both Matfield and Smit were not to make the 2011 WC that is.

Watson would be in a similar difficult position as Smitis, in that he may not be the best in the 6 or 8 jersey. Spies and Brussow still the best currently in my opinion.

Spies should not be unfairly judged, that scrum in turbo reverse made life difficult for him…

    outta here now.

@grant10: nicely put grant, i dont agree with you on it and cannot actually believe that you are mentioning gary botha all of a sardine, just because he is coming back to the bulls?

gary was shown up when js got injured and he was 1st choice for about 7 minutes.
he is about as likely to play in 2011 as butch james is.

luke will not be on the wc train so how can he be captaincy material?
take off the province glasses my friend.

it has been pointed out to you, ad nauseum, that we did not “turbo reverse” the whole year but you have chosen to ignore anything that threatens your take on things.

we also had the most successful year ever and strangely, when your saviours bj and cj played, we lost (even when we achieved scrum dominance)??????????

    go figure.

oh well, i wish you and yours happy holidays man!

@rangerman: since we do not need a good tighthead, they should have jannie du plessis at 3, him and smit have a lot in common, they both play for the sharks and are super PAP at tighthead.

PC dogma says that you shouldn’t care if the guy packing down next to you might fancy shagging your dad or son, but the reality is you do (and maybe you should). It’s different and more complicated than the thought that they might like to shag your wife or daughter. Because engrained into the issue is the fact that it is simply unmanly to allow that column to slip into that cavity, and manliness is still a rugby virtue.

He is a glowing example of a true Zulu warrior. Girls are there to be bedded and this is testament to our manhood. HIV is the white man’s evil. We do not trust their nonsense.

this fool is no zulu nothing, he is just another @rsewipe that thinks it is funny to imitate black people on a rugby blog. For the record you are so transparent little man…

first there was a julius now we have a malema. It seems like the president of the anc youth league is very much the subject of a lot of people’s neuroses. All this effort to mimic him on a rugby blog nogal when everyone knows the said president knows fcukall about rugby.

JDV scores another good try to grab a last minute bonus point against Connacht.
