De Villiers stars in Munster show
20 Dec 2009
Jean de Villiers scored Munster’s third try in their impressive 37-14 away win against Perpignan.
De Villiers had been dropped for the past two matches, but came on as a reserve for Lifeimi Mafi with 18 minutes to go and starred in their bonus point win in France. With the score at 23-14 with 10 minutes to go, De Villiers beat four tacklers to produce one of his trademark breaks to secure the result.
Munster couldn’t score a try last week in the same fixture, but produced an outstanding bonus-point performance to knock the French side out the group.
In other results, Gloucester beat Glasgow 19-6 and Stade Francais defeated Ulster 29-16.

well done Stormer
20 Dec 2009, 19:00 pm
did BJ play for Ulster?
20 Dec 2009, 19:08 pm
reaching grant (the author not G10) he only played 18 minutes and Munster were on top but it was a good finish and does his chances of a starting place no harm.
@grant10: he did but it wasn’t televised, Ulster went down in Paris to Stade.
20 Dec 2009, 19:17 pm
@Big Hit: thanks BH
20 Dec 2009, 19:33 pm
Was a brilliant individual effort.
But as Mr Hit mentioned above, Munster were well on top.
Still good to see from Jean. Classy player.
20 Dec 2009, 19:52 pm
Saw it! AWESOME JEAN!
but no seriously, it’s time to come home
Grant, Smit has another book signing tomorrow… you should come
20 Dec 2009, 22:35 pm
Great stuff Jean bugger!
All class that guy. Come back bud the Stormers need you!
20 Dec 2009, 23:07 pm
interesting perspective on the nz stuff site about all blacks dominate the decade, and it includes the top test team of the decade. stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/3179823/All-Blacks-dominate-decade-sans-World-Cups
the team includes, fdp, matfield, juan smith and john smit. honourable mentions for percy, jaque fourie, jdv, bakkies, os and burger.
worried that we havent had a prop really dominate for a very long time!
21 Dec 2009, 00:01 am
Now this is the Munster De Villiers signed up for, the side that can thrash the French Champions away from home. They’re back baby.
21 Dec 2009, 01:17 am
Yes he played well while he was on
But wonders what they are thinking makeing him as a reserve???
55 boks caps ????
21 Dec 2009, 01:44 am
WP du preez played well to.
Scrummed well did what he was asked to do
21 Dec 2009, 01:50 am
@CoachPete:
Yes I meant to say bad form for not mentioning the best SA player on the pitch Wian Du Preez, he was impressive today. Hopefully Munster can hold on to him after his two months are up, which honestly wouldn’t surprise me. Players who go to Munster always seem to stay longer than they’re supposed to.
21 Dec 2009, 02:11 am
@grant10:
You are an idiot!
21 Dec 2009, 02:17 am
the munster coach is not in awe of jean de villiers and he is not afflicted with the same prejudices as the saffa s14 coaches.
21 Dec 2009, 02:54 am
@Pearl Rose:
Well then he should not have brought him over to Munster
21 Dec 2009, 03:15 am
@Pearl Rose:
Who’s he in awe of? Earl?
21 Dec 2009, 04:51 am
Every time I see Wian du Preez on screen for Munster, I keep having to ask myself who he is, forgetting that he’s in for Horan. Good player, carries well.
JDV’s try was immense – his power is truly astonishing. Mafi hasn’t justified his place in the last two matches and, as many of the commentators stated at the time, Jean needed that try to properly establish himself as a Munster player.
Tony McGahan was very complimentary of his reaction to being dropped – he seems like the consummate professional, which is something you might not always get with somebody who’s achieved everything such as himself. Here’s hoping he sticks around in Ireland until the end of the season (and this coming from a Leinster fan!)
21 Dec 2009, 07:28 am
It takes time for a new player to fit into a team especially when it is a completly different culture and playing style and enviroment. This can be seen in all sports. Freddie was absolutely rubbish for the Sharks at first but slowly got into it.
21 Dec 2009, 08:13 am
@SpringbokSarah: LOL….Only if i can have an honest few minutes chat with Smit…
@The Analyst: Thanks..
21 Dec 2009, 08:18 am
@Tomsta:
Mils Muliaina at fullback is a absolute joke!
21 Dec 2009, 08:30 am
@grant10: John Smit is probably itching to get your advice on front row play grant, get down to that next book signing, our country needs you to explain to john how “turbo reverse” is bad and playing any prop at 3 ahead of him, whilst not ensuring victory, at least prevents you from having nightmares
while you are there, just whisper “luke for captain 2011, whaddayathink smitty?” in johns ear and i am sure you will get all the honesty you require.
lmao!
21 Dec 2009, 08:36 am
Smit is no fool….doesent need my advice….only needs to read the latest SA Rugby Magazine to see what the rugby intelligentsia are saying.
Bur sharks go ahead and play sMIT AT 3….PLEASE DO, ESPECIALLY AGAINST STORMERS….
wOULD BE NICE TO GET A 3 RD WIN IN A ROW OVER THE SHARKS.
21 Dec 2009, 08:46 am
@grant10:
super 14 grant, thats where its at.
in the games wp won, was smit there or not?
remind me the stats this year when smitty was playing for the sharks vs wp in the s14 please?
again, give smitty advice at the book signing, go for it!
after all, you played at a high level, even if it was in the backline, and you obviously were close enough to the pack to master the intricacies of front row play.
you and sarah, go tell the turbo reverse sp-ecialist to leave luke alone and play 2 because, because, because!
he is a nice guy, i am sure he will heed your advice
21 Dec 2009, 08:47 am
the mere fact that you Rangerman still indicate the view that Smit at 3 is even remotely a good idea shows your complete lack of rugby acumen , hence my preference not to engage with you on rugby matters…..
i listen in awe with your wildlife and related tales…..but when it comes to rugby i would sincerely rather talk to my Retriever than you …..you are , together with Ratel Brussow or whatever his nick is, undoubtedly the most 1 eyed, brainwashed ,idiot i have ever encountered on this blog.
21 Dec 2009, 08:51 am
you the only guy i know that believes a auto turbo boost reversegear scrum is a good thing…..bloody hell man….
anyway, off to the Waterfront to do some shopping, Rangerman, have a good day. If i do bump into Smit i will be sure to tell him that i believe he must go back to hooker if he seriously harbours the desire to go to WC 2011 …..and certainly will mention hat the Luke jibes were, in my opinion, uncalled for.
21 Dec 2009, 08:57 am
@grant10: thats just fine grant.
me, i think you have some very good points but you tend to get your teeth into an idea and then harp on about it until the very sight of one of your posts makes a lot of people ill as we are subjected to the 112th repetition of the same thing from you.
you have called for smits retirement, for his removal from the 3 position, for luke to be captain for 2011 wc and you think i am brainwashed?
btw, dont get upset man, you were saying to sarah that you wanted an honest chat with John and i just encouraged you?
what gives?
21 Dec 2009, 08:59 am
@grant10: have a nice day grant, and i look forward to JS once again turbo reversing your ideas on his suitablility for the no 3 position, as he did in hamilton……
21 Dec 2009, 09:05 am
my final take on Smit for everyones clarity.
He must move to 2 if he wants to remain in contention for a Bok spot, he is not an international class 3.
I am happy that he start as Bok 2 , but Gary Botha and Bismarck will obviously push him hard here. Right now i would choose Smit if i was coach.
If PDV says Smit needs to compete for the 3 jersey, i would, if i was Smit, retire.
Luke Watson would, in my opinion, become a Bok skipper contender if anything had to happen to Matfield, if both Matfield and Smit were not to make the 2011 WC that is.
Watson would be in a similar difficult position as Smitis, in that he may not be the best in the 6 or 8 jersey. Spies and Brussow still the best currently in my opinion.
Spies should not be unfairly judged, that scrum in turbo reverse made life difficult for him…
outta here now.
21 Dec 2009, 09:09 am
Here is wishing everyone a very Happy Holidays.
May you share a safe, festive and blessed holidays with your family!!!
21 Dec 2009, 09:16 am
@PissAnt: Thanks PissAnt and have a great one yourself.
21 Dec 2009, 09:22 am
@grant10: nicely put grant, i dont agree with you on it and cannot actually believe that you are mentioning gary botha all of a sardine, just because he is coming back to the bulls?
gary was shown up when js got injured and he was 1st choice for about 7 minutes.
he is about as likely to play in 2011 as butch james is.
luke will not be on the wc train so how can he be captaincy material?
take off the province glasses my friend.
it has been pointed out to you, ad nauseum, that we did not “turbo reverse” the whole year but you have chosen to ignore anything that threatens your take on things.
we also had the most successful year ever and strangely, when your saviours bj and cj played, we lost (even when we achieved scrum dominance)??????????
go figure.
oh well, i wish you and yours happy holidays man!
plenty of time for our rugby theories to be put to the test next year eh?
PA, right back at you mate!
21 Dec 2009, 09:22 am
Agree with Grant, Smit’s best position is at 2, end of story.
21 Dec 2009, 09:25 am
@bok1906: and you are entitled to your opinion mate.
who would you have in place of JS at 3 considering the restrictions on overseas based players?
21 Dec 2009, 09:36 am
ok, i am out.
again, best wishes for the holidays people of the keosphere!
21 Dec 2009, 09:54 am
@whatever: world cup winning coach jake white is in awe of earl! he has said publicly that he rates earl very highly and can be our own steven larkham if given an extended run at 10. What do u say to that whatever? Should the world listen to you when it comes to recognising talent of someone like jake?
@rangerman: since we do not need a good tighthead, they should have jannie du plessis at 3, him and smit have a lot in common, they both play for the sharks and are super PAP at tighthead.
21 Dec 2009, 11:30 am
@grant10: I got few minutes with him yesterday to as him some questions, you can too
21 Dec 2009, 12:42 pm
@rangerman: whatever i say to you will mean nothing…..you deem me anti Smit so my opinion is kryptonite to your superman persona.
So instead of engaging with me do yourself a favour and buy the latest SA Rugby Magazine and read what numerous expperts have to say on the subject…..not just an aging flyhalf who knows sweet f all about the front row.
21 Dec 2009, 12:44 pm
@SpringbokSarah: i just got back from Waterfront now….his only there at 14 h30 to 16 h30….i wasnt too keen on a 2 hr wait….the blonde would of decimated my cr card!!
Anyway, i really would of liked to have had a chat to him…..but next time. What did you say to him?
21 Dec 2009, 13:11 pm
@grant10: hey grant don’t be such a miser, let the blonde burn that card!!
Otherwise i hope you’re having a good time whatever you’re up to…myself i’m amongst the rolling hills of the transkei absorbing nature & listening to her quiet whispers…
21 Dec 2009, 13:28 pm
@Transformation:
As long as you’re staying away from the Umya
You can smoke some Umfincafincane though, no problems there…
21 Dec 2009, 13:54 pm
@WP Till I Die: that goes without saying, i got a puff of some of the skunk from the pondoland @ an umgidi i went to on saturday… :p
On wednesday i will most definitely lighting up some of the potent piff in port st johns!!
21 Dec 2009, 14:12 pm
@Transformation:
I don’t even want to know what else went down at that umgidi…
21 Dec 2009, 14:14 pm
Is de villiers ***???
21 Dec 2009, 14:19 pm
@wallabie.: 43 – Walla, Huh?
Why you up so late again Walla? Are you on your summer holidays yet?
21 Dec 2009, 14:28 pm
@Puma:
I am doing a little research on a client that I am going to trial my products early next year…..long story.
so been doing this now I am winding down and have a chat with some people who are in the middle of their day.
You up to much for Christmas?
21 Dec 2009, 14:28 pm
Whats the difference between Tiger Woods and Santa Claus?
21 Dec 2009, 14:34 pm
@wallabie.:
Santa stops after just three ho’s?
21 Dec 2009, 14:38 pm
@WP Till I Die:
Santa does not pay for his Ho’s.
21 Dec 2009, 14:38 pm
@wallabie.: 45 – Here in Umhlanga like always this time of year. Have my daughter coming over and my sister and her family. The normal stuff. Should be good.
You watched any of the crici Walla? Jeeper it was exciting towards the end of the game yesterday.
Normally watch Oz this time of year too but have not seen too much. Been a bit hectic. Heard WI are playing some good crici again even though they got beat.
21 Dec 2009, 14:39 pm
@Puma:
No summer holidays for me this year.
21 Dec 2009, 14:40 pm
@WP Till I Die: @wallabie.:
21 Dec 2009, 14:42 pm
@wallabie.: 50 – Walla, I would miss my summer holidays this time of year. Kinda get used to having a holiday in December.
When is the best time to take holiday there? Thought it would be in December like here. We have a similar climate.
21 Dec 2009, 14:43 pm
@Puma:
I was surprised with the WI. The first game was **** and I thought this years summer of cricket was gonna be a non event it changed suddenly.
It was fascinating to watch how some of the windies got under some of the australian players skins.
Nice to see some biff!
21 Dec 2009, 14:46 pm
@Puma:
It is best to take your holidays about now if you are a beach and bush person. The heat is generally not that bad. january gets too hot.
Some love going to resorts…then one can go anytime.
I am saving my leave for a big trip to RSA and Zim late next year.
21 Dec 2009, 14:51 pm
good night all!!
chat later
21 Dec 2009, 14:54 pm
@wallabie.: 53 – Walla, It is great that WI are starting to play well again. Cricket really needs a strong WI side. Too few countries play cricket and when one of the great cricket sides drop way down it is not good for cricket. I remember them in the 80′s BRILLIANT side. So it is good to see them on the up again.
Walla good save your money and come over here for your holidays. I have never ever been to Zim. One country I wished I had visited years back.
21 Dec 2009, 14:54 pm
55 – Walla Cheers mate.
21 Dec 2009, 20:11 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
please tell me that wasn’t you with the team watson t-shirts….
21 Dec 2009, 21:43 pm
@grant10: we chatted, he showed me an sms conversation between him and Luke, he signed a team watson t-shirt
21 Dec 2009, 21:44 pm
@gunther: ok
21 Dec 2009, 22:10 pm
Pity I missed the *** debate.
It seems that the identity of *** rugby players are protected.
I was reading that thread in the hope of new names emerging.
Im not in a position to judge anyone but I dont agree with the *** lifestyle, I think Ive mentioned this before.
22 Dec 2009, 01:15 am
Just a quick hello again.
A lot have been said about the other site here. One thing is true, that is a nice place to be.Just came to say enjoy your blogging here , long ago it was nice to be part of you here.
Skoppie i read your views on the *** debate , all i can say is BRAVO. I agree with you there.
Enjoy your festive season
22 Dec 2009, 02:02 am
PC dogma says that you shouldn’t care if the guy packing down next to you might fancy shagging your dad or son, but the reality is you do (and maybe you should). It’s different and more complicated than the thought that they might like to shag your wife or daughter. Because engrained into the issue is the fact that it is simply unmanly to allow that column to slip into that cavity, and manliness is still a rugby virtue.
22 Dec 2009, 04:33 am
@superBul: What is the other site?
22 Dec 2009, 04:46 am
@Sheriff: What is the “*** lifestyle”? Many **** behave towards each other in exactly the same way women and men behave towards each other. In some cases their lifestyle is no different to ours. Sometimes it involves love and mutual respect, and other times promiscuity and violence.
Or do you mean “*** ***”?
The first view is ignorant, and the other is bigoted.
I dont think that *** *** sounds particularly interesting or sexy, but don’t “disagree” with it..
22 Dec 2009, 07:02 am
@kwas: Rugby-talk dot com
22 Dec 2009, 10:52 am
@superBul: if it is such a nice place why do you need to come here to the not-so-nice place to tell us and then write the web address? You are pathetic man, you are no different from TheTackler who leaves south africa and then feels it necessary to disparage it at every opportunity he gets. Why can’t you be happy with the decision you made to “emigrate”? Enjoy RT, stop looking back, you are not missed over here and certainly you do not get people posting Keo’s new web address on rudi geldenhuys’ rugby blog!
Have a very merry christmas and a marvellous new year SuperBul.
22 Dec 2009, 11:09 am
briefly looked over “the other site” (don’t know why it must be referred to like that… sounds Voldermort…”he who must not be named”)
looks cool, prefer keo’s colour scheme though
22 Dec 2009, 11:19 am
@SpringbokSarah: lol… funny you should say that, they refer to keo as “Voldy” as in Voldermort.
22 Dec 2009, 11:23 am
@Pearl Rose: roflmao, I didn’t know that… that’s odd… why?
22 Dec 2009, 12:34 pm
@Pearl Rose: Pearl you never talked to me when i was a regular here so dont judge me , you dont know me. I had great friends here and at times still come here, i gave a straight answer to someone who asked where, thats all.
Rangerman, Tacitus, Soda Joe and many many more decent bloggers here was also upset with the state of afairs here, i decided to go and whatever you call me i am happy with my new home rugby site. Skopskiet and me had many thing we agreed too, like the hype about Jake …
I never resigned here and was never chased away here so if that is your way to send me packing , maybe you must go and look why so many is leaving, maybe it is because of people like you.
22 Dec 2009, 12:47 pm
Site looks like **** to me. Very amateur web page design and look and feel. Enough to put me off it.
22 Dec 2009, 13:55 pm
@superBul:i know you superbul, you say you have friends here, the why constantly bore your friends about how **** the old pub is and how nice the new pub is? Why can’t you come here to talk about rugby or cricket and leave all that does not concern you or interest you to those that blog here?
You think Pietman, GBS, Ed the lion, Porra, Bul-Bhloo left because of me? The next time you blog with you blog with Pietman ask him what he said to Grant10 and about black people in this country before he left this blog? South Africa let alone keo’s blog does not need the likes of Pietman.
@SpringbokSarah: “he who must not be named”
22 Dec 2009, 15:57 pm
congrats rangerman on the birth of your little lady….cool stuff!!
22 Dec 2009, 16:04 pm
Rangerman, congratulations on the birth of your first child!
Hope mother and child are both well?
22 Dec 2009, 16:36 pm
Congrats Rangerdad!
22 Dec 2009, 17:35 pm
@superBul: I for one appreciate your contributions, your posts have always seemed very balanced, don’t feel you have to go anywhere.
@Slappes: lol, I didn’t see his post but would like to echo the sentiment, congrats Ranger and have a great Christmas.
@SpringbokSarah: I saw the team watson photo sarah, were you there with your dad?
22 Dec 2009, 17:53 pm
congratulations mzingeli! all the best with you little bundle of joy! You have 15 years to perfect the mean-***-dad personality!
siyakubongela Ranger inkosi ikubusise nomndeni wakho!
22 Dec 2009, 18:05 pm
@Big Hit: hi big hit, with all due respect. I wasn’t suggesting that superBul must leave the blog, only that can he please spare us all his rambling about how nice it is where ever else he is blogging. he was never bothered and never felt like leaving the blog when all those he calls friends were being blatantly racist here, he stayed on, never dared to challenge them, he cowered under it…
22 Dec 2009, 19:15 pm
@Pearl Rose: I know you weren’t saying he should leave, just making sure he wasn’t taking it that way. With regards to the racist arguements, whilst I see your point of view and agree to an extent, some people just don’t like to get involved with that stuff and are only here for the rugby, superbul was one of them. He isn’t really a biased Bulls fan either so I always had time for his posts. Keo.co.za has nothing to fear from rival sites, it’s nationally and internationally known amongst rugby fans.
22 Dec 2009, 19:45 pm
@Big Hit: My dad was there ja, but not in the 1 everybody else is seeing… and neither is John Smit with the signed team watson t-shirt
22 Dec 2009, 20:01 pm
@SpringbokSarah: ok cool, thought the ‘we’ve got your back’ on the back was a funny touch.
22 Dec 2009, 20:03 pm
where can one view these pics sarah?
22 Dec 2009, 20:27 pm
@superBul:
I took a short snapshot at the OTHER site, it looks like a good old Keo site we had here few years back before the new comers turned legitimate rugby arguments into a 3rd world rhetoric.
Quite impressive site actually over there
22 Dec 2009, 20:47 pm
@Hondo: yes all full of racist braai talk… He he
22 Dec 2009, 21:04 pm
@Pearl Rose:
Yes those white boys sure can talk a lot of rubbish at those braais. I wonder how many times they talked about exterminating us brothers. It’s terrible.
I can tell you for myself, us brothers never talk about such things at our bull slaughtering functions. Conversation is about rugby, girls and ow to avoid AIDS by using the correct Lifebuoy soap. We never waste our precious time on such subjects of bigotry. It never crosses my mind once…never…no really..not ever…no seriously…I’m telling you…you better believe me okay. I demand that you beleive me and if you don’t then I demand an apology.
22 Dec 2009, 21:47 pm
@Malema:
Doos!
@Pearl Rose:
Doosette!
22 Dec 2009, 21:57 pm
@whatever:
Pretty much to the point
lol
22 Dec 2009, 22:28 pm
@whatever:hello
@Malema: 1stly i’m not ur brother and don’t assume you anything in common with me.
22 Dec 2009, 23:31 pm
@Pearl Rose: 85 – There is a policy of non racial blogging on Rugby-Talk.com infact we know when we sign up it is not tolerated, so I would be very interested if you could provide me with an instance of racist talk on that site…
Please, the ball is in your court name a thread, date and post number that is racially offensive!!!
I know you do keep certain posts up your sleeve to produce when you feel the need to emphasise a point!
23 Dec 2009, 00:12 am
@carol: lol…you are funny. Well keo had a big red message hear that was later removed deploring racism that never stopped any of the guys from posting racially charged opinions.
I’m sure you have never witnessed anyone on that blog badmouth any of the bloggers on this site, because they are all decent bloggers i suppose.
Does the phrase “lastige liberalis” mean anything to you?
23 Dec 2009, 00:32 am
@Pearl Rose: So, you could not find an offensive post….
That is good, thanks for confirming that.
Goodnight…
23 Dec 2009, 07:43 am
@carol: in your right mind do yo think i am going to go comb that blog for racially offensive posts, how bored do you think i am?
1stly you have a 1st graders’ comprehension of afrikaans which is the dominant language on that blog yet you think you can claim to understand the undercurrents, you are way out of your depth.
23 Dec 2009, 07:56 am
@Pearl Rose:
mmmmmm, so you make an assumption?? Classic! Almost like only whites can be racist? Ne?
23 Dec 2009, 07:59 am
@carol: i have confirmed nothing. Why would a blog of “decent” bloggers need an enforced policy of non-racial blogging as you put it? to curb its members’ proclivity to sprout racially charged garbage, maybe?
You always claim not to have any idea of the inherent prejudices that a rife in south africa yet now you are acting as the defender-in-chief of that blog, your bff gbs must be so proud of you.
23 Dec 2009, 08:08 am
@whatever: you must be joking! lol…do you blog on that rugby site?
23 Dec 2009, 08:54 am
@Pearl Rose:
Do not be cheeky brother. I will send comrades to your house to seek retribution the Township way. Be respectful of the leadership.
23 Dec 2009, 08:58 am
@Malema:
AAAh I see another white dude pretending to be a black guy to sprout racist talk. What type of a ****** feels the need to do that? What are you like 4 years old?
23 Dec 2009, 09:03 am
@Sonito:
Do not instigate the party comrade. Be respectful.
23 Dec 2009, 09:06 am
@Sonito:you took the words right out of my mouth sonito, i also have no idea what kind of psychosis this kind of person suffers from. It could be a reaction to the God-complex of the owner of the other site.
@Malema: i’m not Cheeky, he lives in cape town & is the president of EP Rugby and again i am not your brother. Do you think all people of colour go around calling each other brother?
23 Dec 2009, 09:08 am
@Malema: Pietman…have you no shame??
23 Dec 2009, 09:20 am
@Malema: what is an idiot in siPedi?
23 Dec 2009, 09:25 am
You guys are realy going on about nothing….
23 Dec 2009, 09:26 am
I am a proud Zulu like my leader.
23 Dec 2009, 09:28 am
@Blouste:
Affirmative.
23 Dec 2009, 09:29 am
@Malema:
Thats just great…
Suppose you are referring to president Zuma, because you’re name sake is a bit of his rocket….
23 Dec 2009, 09:33 am
He is a glowing example of a true Zulu warrior. Girls are there to be bedded and this is testament to our manhood. HIV is the white man’s evil. We do not trust their nonsense.
23 Dec 2009, 09:35 am
@Malema:
