Leinster clout Scarlets
20 Dec 2009
Rob Kearney, Gordon D’Arcy and Brian O’Driscoll each scored a brace as Leinster convincingly defeated the Scarlets 39-7 in Dublin.
The result means the defending champions, who had CJ van der Linde starting at tighthead, keep abreast with London Irish. The two teams both have 15 points with two matches left, and a potential group decider will be played at the Madejski Stadium next month.
The Exiles also had a good 34-13 win over Brive, but had to wait until a last minute Delon Armitage try handed them the crucial bonus point. Danie Coetzee came off the bench and Faan Rautenbach was an unused substitute, while for Brive Scott Spedding capped off an unhappy afternoon as he became the fourth player to be sin-binned for the French club.
Leicester kept their play-off hopes alive with a 20-15 win over Clermont at Welford Road, but the visitors will be content with their losing bonus point. Brent Russell and Willie Wepener were unused substitutes.
Juandre Kruger started in Northampton’s 21-18 win over Treviso and Brian Mujati came on for the last 15 minutes. Marius Goosen and Tobie Botes kicked points for Franco Smith-coached Treviso.
Ricky Januarie played 72 minutes in the Ospreys’ 45-19 win over Viadana, who had Gareth Krause starting.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on CJ making it back to SA for the World Cup – he’s played, what, 15 games for Leinster in 2 seasons? His toe problem keeps getting compounded by more minor leg injuries, probably because he’s over-compensating.
Have your say
