Clermont clout Ospreys

Clermont looked to have knocked the Ospreys out of the European Cup with their 27-7 win.

Tommy Bowe scored early for Ricky Januarie’s side, but from there on the hosts took control as they scored two second half tries to deliver a severe blow to the Ospreys’ chances of reaching the play-offs.

Despite Michael Claassens’ try, Bath were knocked out of the competition by Stade Francais as they went down 15-13. Jean de Villiers and Wian du Preez both started in Munster’s 44-7 mauling of Treviso, while BJ Botha’s Ulster also kept their play-off hopes alive with a 21-13 win over Edinburgh.

Cardiff defeated Sale 36-19, while Gloucester beat Biarritz 23-8 and Leicester easily accounted for Viadana 47-8.

    Was actually a good rugby,
On a drier pitch, January was January: slow to pass, inaccurate,a poor excessive box kicking, the usual deal, BUT he almost scored a solo try, pretty similar to his one against the ABs in ’08 at Cairsbrook.
Mike Phillips can relax now, his position is safe

Have you looked at the pool tables, may I ask?

Ospreys still have good chances to qualify, if they beat Leicester, preferably with a bonus. All they need is Northampton or London Irish losing tomorrow and in that case their destiny is enirely in their own hands next week.

I do, and so do many others. And so should you, and many like you, so that it doesn’t come as a big shock when the Northern Hemisphere sides kick Bok butt at the end of year tours. Look and learn. Blinkered bigot!

Ja I agree. I only look for the South African players in the European sides to see how many points they contributed.

    Otherwise vokol interest.

So London Irish have lost and got nothing. It’s all now in Ospreys hands, they may even win without a bonus to qualify and if today Northampton fail as well – simple win vs Leicester will be enough.

@Nils: Leicester are in top form, all the danger men are back. Croft is the only miss.

some of you say you love rugby yet you only watch south african rugby and think you are mr know-it-alls. How myopic.

@Big Hit: While I agree with you about Leicester strenght, it’s not exactly my point, I was merely saying that Ospreys can fully rely on themselves now, not nervously waiting for others to do them a favour. That’s why I disagree with a “looked to have knocked the Ospreys out” and even more after London Irish have fallen behind.

It depends solely on whether Ospreys win or not. Bonus point may be an option, to settle matter once and for all, however I think win will be enough, as I hardly see London Irish putting 4 tries on Leinster.

Of course, whether Ospreys will win, it’s a completely different matter.
