Saru to hear Lions’ complaint

The Willem Alberts/ Louis Ludik saga could come to a head on Wednesday when Saru determine whether the Sharks are guilty of a breach in protocol.
Saru has confirmed that a hearing, adjudicated by Koos Basson, will be held on Wednesday. A complaint concerning Willem Alberts and Lousi Ludik, who are currently with the Sharks, was brought by the Golden Lions Rugby Union who alleged that the Sharks had not secured the necessary clearance certificates required before contracting the players.
The Lions also charged that the two players remained under contract to them.
The Lions allege that this constituted a breach of Saru regulations relating to the Movement of Players and asked Saru to investigate the complaint. The complaint will be heard at Saru headquarters in Cape Town on Wednesday morning.

Yes it is about that those ******* at SARU do their job. Just get a cheque from the Sharks and get it over with.

SARU is to blame for this their slack *** approach has resulted in this situation…ffs, first they are fkg up CC, and now they can’t even perform basic admin functions promptly and efficiently, too busy on the golf course?

think the sharks will get these players cos SA rugby will grab the checkbook and make this whole embarasing sutuation dissapear.

@rangerman: That’s not squealing. Listen to your pal, Brian van Zyl, when he is slapped with a monster fine AND prevented from playing Ludik and Alberts AND prevented from signing new players AND instructed to pay the GLRU the value of their contracts. I can guarantee you, that will be prime squealing.

but if the sharks are in the wrong then a decent transfer fee should be agreed by all so the squealing from up north can stop giving me migraines.

The Lions are a joke. They dont deserve to play Super rugby based on their poor performances over the years as well as their inept administrators…

i see the sharks poachers are scrambling for the moral high ground already, talking about it is time for rugby now meanwhile they started this k@k with their windgat president who is a so-called labour law expert.
Let us see them extricate themselves out of it and then we can continue with the rugby.

@wpw: Okay, so how many times did the Stormers win the S10/S12/S14? The Lions = good joke. Stormers = sick joke. Of all the SA teams only the Bulls and Lions have Super titles to their names. The rest can show buggerall for their efforts.

If Alberts and Ludik have the same contract as JF why not go for arbitration Sharks? Why resisit arbitration if it’s a clear case as claimed? Something tells me the Sharks gambled here.

@WPW some facts? Not deserving? Yes the Lions structures haven’t been the best they have lost great players in recent times to other teams. Habana, Fourie just two examples of players that will play against the team they started their careers with, this upcoming weekend when the Lions play WP.
As for not playing S14? the Cheetahs’ 2009 Super 14 campaign started with 7 consecutive defeats and finished last, seven log points behind the 13th-placed Reds.
I know Lions fans have to go through this “buidling a team”, “going to be a better team, “making changes” stories every year. Putting up a fight against players and other unions not honouring contracts is a start. I hope the Lions can have a moral victory with this one, remeber when Luke Watson was sidelined due to a similar contractual issue when moving to WP?

Yesterday, the hearing was going to be today – today, the hearing is tomorrow.
I think its becoming patently clear that the Lions are just trying to do the maximum damage possible now. Its 3 days before the start of the Super 14, and so highly unlikely Alberts or Ludik will be able to play against the Chiefs.

In addition to the penalties mooted by Katman, how about a deduction of 50% of the league points at the end of the Super 14. No team should be allowed to profit from underhand methods.
