Poms call on Cole

Tighthead Dan Cole will make his starting debut for England against Italy in Rome on Sunday.

Cole won his first cap off the bench in last week’s win over Wales, and is one of two changes made by Martin Johnson to the starting team as David Wilson is dropped.

Riki Flutey has recovered from a knock to the thigh which meant he was a late withdrawal for last week’s Test, and he replaces Toby Flood.

Johnson has not yet named his replacements.

England – Delon Armitage (London Irish); Mark Cueto (Sale), Mathew Tait (Sale), Riki Flutey (Brive), Ugo Monye (Harlequins); Jonny Wilkinson (Toulon), Danny Care (Harlequins); Tim Payne (Wasps), Dylan Hartley (Northampton), Dan Cole (Leicester), Simon Shaw (Wasps), Steve Borthwick (Saracens, captain), James Haskell (Stade Francais), Lewis Moody (Leicester), Nick Easter (Harlequins).

Enforced changes for France

Marc Lievremont has remained consistent in his selection policy and has made just two injury-enforced changes to his starting team to play Ireland in Paris.

Both wingers, Aurelien Rougerie and Benjamin Fall, sustained injuries in the 18-9 win over Scotland, and have been replaced by Vincent Clerc and Alexis Palisson. Julien Malzieu is elevated to the bench, while experienced prop Sylvain Marconnet has been brought into Saturday’s squad for injured Luc Ducalcon.

France – 15 Clement Poitrenaud, 14 Vincent Clerc, 13 Mathieu Bastareaud, 12 Yannick Jauzion, 11 Alexis Palisson, 10 François Trinh-Duc, 9 Morgan Parra, 8 Imanol Harinordoquy, 7 Fulgence Ouedraogo, 6 Thierry Dusautoir (c), 5 Pascal Pape, 4 Lionel Nallet, 3 Nicolas Mas, 2 William Servat, 1 Thomas Domingo.
Subs: 16 Dimitri Szarzewski, 17 Sylvain Marconnet, 18 Julien Pierre, 19 Julien Bonnaire, 20 Frederic Michalak, 21 David Marty, 22 Julien Malzieu.

French will take the Irish I think.

If only they come to the party…

History tends to show that Ireland either scrape home in this fixture or that France flails them to high heavens. Match of the year I hope!

Cole is a good option but a big challenge lies ahead, the Eyetie scrum is no joke for a 22 yr old newbie, albeit a 6ft 3 19st newbie.

Ireland win pretty rarely in France.
