Jean coming home
16 Feb 2010
Munster have announced that Jean de Villiers will return to South Africa at the end of the European season.
The Irish club reported on their website on Monday that De Villiers will leave at the end of May to make himself available for the Springbok World Cup squad next year.
‘I feel this is perhaps my last opportunity to represent my country at the World Cup and after consultation with Saru it has become clear that to qualify for selection players must be playing their rugby in South Africa in the season leading up to the competition,’ De Villiers said in a statement.
‘I’m thoroughly enjoying my time here in Munster and I think it would be fair to say that had the World Cup not been a factor, then I would be remaining for at least the next 2 seasons. I would not rule out returning here after RWC 2011 either, if the opportunity arose.
‘For now though, my entire focus is on the Magners League and European Cup campaigns. There’s a lot of rugby to be played yet in the red shirt and I’m looking forward immensely to continuing my involvement with a great squad.’
Munster chief executive Garrett Fitzgerald added that the club supports De Villiers’ decision.
‘Jean missed the 2003 World Cup through injury and played just 40 minutes in 2007. So his desire to represent his country in the most prestigious rugby competition is totally understandable,’ said Fitzgerald.
‘He made us aware of this scenario before he joined us last September. He has been a hugely positive addition to the squad this season. His influence has grown and continues to grow as he becomes more and more comfortable within the squad.
‘While he will be a major loss, we fully respect his ambition and he will leave us at the end of the season with our very best wishes.’

16 Feb 2010, 06:36 am
wp…please
16 Feb 2010, 06:37 am
Something fishy there,
Both Malfi and Tipoki are truely 2nd grade centres by the Cletic League standards, Keith Earl made a good partnership with Jdv, I am not sure of the reasons given.
16 Feb 2010, 06:40 am
@RedLion: I will hurt ****
Race is on!
16 Feb 2010, 06:43 am
We don’t want Jean, Meisiekind is better
16 Feb 2010, 06:43 am
@Hondo: Does it really matter?
16 Feb 2010, 06:44 am
Bulls can look to buy Mapoe though…
16 Feb 2010, 06:45 am
Seriously, Jean will sort out a captain issue at the Stormers imo…
16 Feb 2010, 06:47 am
I can see the Sharks recruiters rubbing their hands together.
16 Feb 2010, 06:47 am
@Blouste: yes yes, just remind your Coach…
16 Feb 2010, 06:51 am
@SpringbokSarah:
????
Jean was called up by Pd Villiers in November, there is absolutely no reason why they won’t call up him again!
YES, it does matter, staying in Europe keep the guy relative fresh, here he will get injured soon.
My only conceren, JdV has no substitue at Test level right now.
16 Feb 2010, 06:51 am
@Blouste: exactly…. So could you go fetch him for us?
16 Feb 2010, 07:00 am
@Hondo: they can keep an eye on him here, he will be competing against ausie and nz teams before the 3N- beter preperation for 3N? – better preperation for RWC?
16 Feb 2010, 07:06 am
Rassie….dont mess this up….get his signature…..KLAAR!
16 Feb 2010, 07:06 am
And dont forget, he’s getting married
16 Feb 2010, 07:17 am
i see the thread about the scum-ish Sharks supporters has disappeared!!!
Gareth Duncan!!!!!!
16 Feb 2010, 07:19 am
@Blouste: You are kidding! I hope Province get him.
16 Feb 2010, 07:28 am
Best news ever !!!!!
He HAS to go and play for Stormers. It is good for Bok rugby if the bulk of their backline plays together for their provincial side.
We could then have JDV, JF, Habs, and Jantjes all playing together, molding an even stronger relationship.
Truelly excellent news – except if your name is Wynand Olivier
16 Feb 2010, 07:39 am
@Transformation:
I noticed it too, must a ‘politician’ called Keo to ask for its delition?
I thought it’s a sensitive issue when I watched the replay: there is no doubt about who threw the ‘jugs’, whatever it means
16 Feb 2010, 07:43 am
talk is that he’ll go to the Sharks … Brussouw is also on his way to Durban next year
16 Feb 2010, 07:43 am
but thats old news
16 Feb 2010, 07:43 am
His agent said recently that WP would have ‘first choice’ when it comes to negotiations.
If WP do not sign him then I’ll eat my hat!!
16 Feb 2010, 07:45 am
@ekisibok:
Your source???
16 Feb 2010, 07:46 am
sharks will try and line up Brussow,BJ and JDV….for sure.
16 Feb 2010, 07:56 am
There was always just a small group of players that i’ve alwas rated in the Stormers/Wp team….. ok… not even a handfull
but JdV is a Monster…
This guy has all my respect as a centre…
seen him do things of legendary status…. from Wp u/20 to the bok jumper…..
16 Feb 2010, 07:56 am
Come back home Jean…that is back to Cape Town! Amagine! JDV, JF and HB! Stormers will have the most killer backline in S14!
16 Feb 2010, 08:08 am
@Breakdown Boy: indeed and then they will all leave post RWC.
16 Feb 2010, 08:18 am
@Transformation:
Censorship is an ugly thing…
16 Feb 2010, 08:18 am
I dont know what the debate is all about…. of course he will return back to Cape Town.
Lets be serious about this, if you were offered to live in either Cape Town or Durban, on top of that a choice between Jaques Fourie or Waylon Murray at 13 next to you, then the even greater option of Peter Grant or Monty Whatever at 10 inside you…… Fait accompli
I am not really surprised that he never really made it in the South of Ireland. I was at the Leinster/Munster derby in September last year when O Driscoll made Jean look decidedly stupid in the 34 zip hammering Munster took. Watching his performance in the freezing cold rain, I realised as early as then that is was only a matter of time before the lure of greatest city in the world beckoned again…
16 Feb 2010, 08:23 am
@Transformation:
It’s still cached though – I’ve retrieved it:
“Stephen Donald says he was nearly hit by a beer jug thrown by the crowd after the Chiefs’ 19-18 win over the Sharks in Durban last weekend.
Chiefs pivot Donald, who scored the match-clinching penalty in the last minute of the match, was almost the victim of shameful crowd behaviour as a beer jug and other objects were thrown on to the field after the match at Kings Park.
Donald said this was the first time he experienced an incident of this manner, but believes New Zealand match official Keith Brown was the main target of the attack.
Brown was criticised after the game for his poor refereeing as he missed a number of knock-ons, obstructions and fouls.
‘I don’t know what their [the crowd's] problem was, but I think it was meant to hit the referee,’ Donald told rugbyheaven.com.au. ‘It’s the first time things have gone a little bit pear-shaped for me as far as kicking and the crowds … they started to lose the plot. The jug got close but I had a pretty big tee boy today in [teammate] Sione Lauaki, so I felt pretty safe.’ “
16 Feb 2010, 08:28 am
I will personally fire Rassie if he doesn’t sign JdV!!!
16 Feb 2010, 08:29 am
@WP Till I Die: #31
big tee boy … is he allowed to say that… maybe it was cenored cause of that?
16 Feb 2010, 08:30 am
For years now Newlands and Loftus have taken the brunt of criticism about the behaviour of the crowds…so I feel fully justified in publishing some more other news reports on this issue!
From iAfrica:
“Durban once again showed off the worst side of South African spectators, after beer-drinking louts pelted Chiefs flyhalf Stephen Donald with missiles to show their displeasure in the outcome of the match in which the Sharks lost 18-19 to a last-minute penalty.
The disgraceful sight of Sharks fans throwing missiles at Donald on two occasions – once while lining up a conversion attempt and then also during the last-minute penalty that earned the visitors a dramatic one-point win – reminded of another forgetful moment.
Back in 2002 spectator Piet van Zyl ran onto the field in a state of inebriation and tackled Irish referee Dave McHugh to the ground in a Test between the Springboks and All Blacks. The incident sparked an international outcry and landed Van Zyl in court.
Just like McHugh all those years ago, New Zealand referee Keith Brown – who awarded the Chiefs, last year’s Super 14 finalists, 16 penalties to the Sharks’ eight – earned himself the ire of local spectators in a display that saw Springbok and Sharks captain John Smit repeatedly question his calls.
While the Sharks, and their vocal fans, showed their disapproval with numerous of the rulings of the Kiwi match official, Brown, the Chiefs flyhalf seemed unperturbed by the flying missiles.
Donald kept his cool to slot two crucial kicks, the conversion 10 metres in from touch and the penalty in the dying second to seal the victory for the team from Hamilton.
“It’s the first time things have gone a little bit pear-shaped for me so far as kicking and the crowd starting to lose the plot,” Donald told NZPA.
“It [a beer jug] got close, but I had a pretty big tee boy in [teammate] Sione Lauaki so I felt pretty safe.”
Donald said he suspected the alcohol-laden missile wasn’t intended for him.
“I don’t know what their problem was. I think it was supposed to hit the referee more than me.” “
16 Feb 2010, 08:33 am
@Staal:
Hehehehehe…it appears colonialism is still entrenched on the South Island
Stephen Donald the pakeha has Sione Lauaki the Pacific Islander as his tee boy!
16 Feb 2010, 08:33 am
More importantly, why is Stephen Donald’s nickname “Beaver”?
16 Feb 2010, 08:36 am
@WP Till I Die: I am amazed that anyone even refers to this as a “crowd”. Watching it on the ol’ TV it looked more like a scatterling of a few people to me…
Any idea on the official attendance??
16 Feb 2010, 08:40 am
Jean’s agent said he would give WP the first bite of the cherry… so unless Rassie is in a coma… Jean should be coming back to Cape Town…
however… if Wynand Olivier keeps performing like he did on Friday then Jean is going to have a fight on his hands to make the starting spot… which is great for the Boks…
@WP Till I Die: @ 34
Quite right WPTID…
you’d think the Sharks fans who knocked us for the booing at Newlands would come out extremely hard on missile throwing at the Tank…??? makes you think…
also Skinstadt said “they are throwing things (plural) on the field…”
saying they were plastic cups is nonsense… who has ever tried to throw a plastic cup before… it won’t go five metres… let alone nearly hit someone on a rugby field from the stands…
16 Feb 2010, 08:43 am
@Bod:
Official figure: 27,296 (52% capacity)
16 Feb 2010, 08:45 am
@ufo: # 38
Yip logically Jean will go to the Stormers/Wp…
but taking into account how many games he will play for them, (resting of boks)…
as well as the current finances of WP/Stormers…. maybe it is no so certain?
time will tell..
16 Feb 2010, 08:47 am
@WTF?!?:
Jean wont go to any other Province than WP, Rassie doesn’t have contact him, he will contact Rassie.
It is a known fact that him and Schalk are joined by the hip, been room mates for 8 years!
Feels sorry for De Jong he will have to warm the bench ones JDV is back.
16 Feb 2010, 08:49 am
@groenie: hehehehehe… Habs & the Bulls were also joined at the hip…
16 Feb 2010, 08:50 am
@Staal:
time will tell for sure…
but he will be rested whichever team he joins… and I don’t think WP will struggle to pay him… he was on the payroll a few month’s ago… any other team is going to have to come up with ‘new’ cash to pay him..
I will be gutted if he joins another province…
16 Feb 2010, 08:53 am
@WP Till I Die: So many?? It looked more like 7, 296 to me, which would be more indicative of the **** rugby that the Sharks are dishing up.
On the subject of booing, I had the priviledge of attending the Bok/Irish game at Croke Park last year and my lingering memory of an extremely dissapointing day results wise, was the behaviour of the 79,000 odd Irish fans every time Morne Steyn lined up a kick at posts. You could hear a pin drop and that is no exaggeration at all. The only people to make any attempy at a noise was the odd yobo, pathetic, dronk, plank so-called Bok supporter. Even the frikking Irish were trying to shut them up. It was a damned fine experience…
16 Feb 2010, 08:56 am
without luke, JDV will surely come back.
16 Feb 2010, 09:01 am
@Bod:
Would love to go and see a game in Ireland
Admire the respect they show towards the place kickers!
South Africans are a bunch of hooligans, bloody dutchmen!
16 Feb 2010, 09:04 am
From the Sydney Morning Herald…
“DURBAN was again the venue for disgraceful crowd behaviour when Chiefs five-eighth Stephen Donald was twice pelted with missiles during their dramatic 19-18 win over the Sharks early yesterday.
The All Blacks five-eighth was forced to dodge a beer jug when converting the only try of the match, and objects were also thrown at him when kicking the final-minute penalty that won them the match.
Donald said after the game that he was probably not the target of the spectators’ ire, and the objects might have been aimed at the referee, New Zealander Keith Brown, who made some contentious decisions during the Chiefs’ late comeback.”
16 Feb 2010, 09:04 am
heheheehe WP dont have any money left after the Fourie & Habanna purchase…… maybe Jean will do it for the love of the game!
16 Feb 2010, 09:05 am
JDV should’ve picked a less demanding club for his NH trip, the standards at Munster are high and you have to play well every week or face criticism. I think the guy could do with a rest, he hasn’t looked the same player since he returned from injury just before the Lions series.
16 Feb 2010, 09:07 am
And Sir Brian van Zyl himself speaks:
“Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl expressed his disappointment on Sunday at the “distasteful” behaviour of a few fans who threw plastic missiles at officials and players during the Sharks versus Chiefs Super 14 match in Durban on Saturday.
The first incident occurred when Chiefs’ flyhalf Stephen Donald was taking a kick and later when missiles were thrown at New Zealand referee Keith Brown at the end of the match, which was won 19-18 by the team from Waikato.
“You could sense a lot of frustration in the stadium after the Sharks lost in injury time to a penalty awarded to the Chiefs, but we in no way condone the way some people reacted. It was not behaviour becoming of Sharks fans,” Van Zyl said.
“The last time I can recall fans behaving in that manner was in 1974 when there was a punch-up in the British Lions tour match against Natal (Lions fullback JPR Williams got stuck into Natal captain Tommy Bedford, incurring the wrath of the locals),” Van Zyl said.
“Obviously we don’t want this behaviour in our stadium.”"
16 Feb 2010, 09:11 am
“The last time I can recall fans behaving in that manner was in 1974 when there was a punch-up in the British Lions tour match against Natal……
Brian…. ever watched a club game in the Wes-Kaap or in Petoria?????
16 Feb 2010, 09:11 am
I hope JDV comes back to WP!
There is 1 centre combination I enjoy watching more than any other, and it is that of JDV and JF!
Also, Jean will have to come back on top form to fight for the Bok 12 jersey… Olivier is playing great rugby at the moment…
Centres for RWC 2011:-
JDV / Olivier / De Jongh / JF
I also hope Robert Ebersohn can step up to challenge the above players!
16 Feb 2010, 09:12 am
@Bod: seems all saffas are the same…jeesh
16 Feb 2010, 09:13 am
@Gambit25: people often say that about the JDV/JF combo and I can never understand why as they never pass to each other, they’re both strike runners.
16 Feb 2010, 09:16 am
@Big Hit: I can think of a number of times that JF has scored off a JDV pass!
16 Feb 2010, 09:18 am
@Bod: rugby in the UK/Ire isn’t the game of the people and you tend to get mostly middle class educated folks who follow the game who don’t partake in all the booing etc, that behaviour is left to the football fans. The exception is Wales where rugby is the first sport, they have no qualms about whistling the kicker etc.
16 Feb 2010, 09:19 am
@groenie: It was an unbelievable experience. The stadium, the passion, the singing and the amazing humility of the Irish fans. They were so humble in victory and had nothing but compliments to pay us.
Hell, my better half and I somehow managed to be grossly underdressed in our Bok shirts and F… all else in the -3 degs, sleet, mist, rain et al weather. As we shiveringly took to our seats, the Irishman in the seat next to us took off his gloves and coat and handed them to my better half (No such luck for me) and then the guy next to him hauled out is pewter of Jamesons and proceeded to share its contents with us…
I hate the Boks losing, but if theres one side I can more or less stomach losing to, its the Irish… thanks to their fans behavior.
I havent started on true Irish Guinness yet…
16 Feb 2010, 09:20 am
@Big Hit:
I said this 4 years ago – there is one moer of a difference between a play-maker, and game-breaker…
For my money both JDV and Fourie are game-breakers…
16 Feb 2010, 09:21 am
@Gambit25: maybe I haven’t seen enough of them together but I didn’t see too much in the way of creativity from them during the 3N, bar some Muir-inspired strike moves and good defence the Bok backs were disappointing. If the NZ team had the amount of possession and quick ball SA had during the 3N they would’ve been running up 50 point scores. Definitely a lot to work on for PDV, maybe Pienaar can step up and offer something different this year.
16 Feb 2010, 09:25 am
@Big Hit:
That is true BH.
DeVilliers has a slightly wider skills set but his FIRST OPTION is run then pass.He uses his deceptive changes of speed to open gaps rather than the ability to off load in tackle or put others into space with sublime timed passes etc.
Fourie is a strike runner,a wing at 13.He rarely ever passes to anybody.He is effective,highly effective when he gets it right because he is big,strong and runs great lines.But if one doesnt make space from him,he cant make it for himself nor others.Therein sometimes lies the problem when they are man marked.
Lack variety.
Thats why I liked the JdV/Jacobs patnership in 2008 so much.They were almost impossible to mark because they would interchange roles with ease.Jacobs at top form has the ability to create space and be strike runner with his injection of speed.has a lovely pair of hands too.Even BP/Poppa69 stated he plays like a Maori creative 12 ala Walter Little.
(PS-Im not advocating that Jacons should be playing ahead of Fourie at this moment as he has been of form since B&I series-Im just stating playing stylr preference/variety/interchangability)
16 Feb 2010, 09:29 am
@mshiniwami: JDV/Jacobs were an excellent combo in ’08 but I think both were burnt out and perhaps carrying injuries too in ’09, didn’t have the same fizz
16 Feb 2010, 09:30 am
@Big Hit: I hear you!
JDV and JF are similar in that they are strike-runners but in my mind, JDV has that ability to create opportunities for those around him …
16 Feb 2010, 09:43 am
brian van zyl: the sharks fans you are referring to are they the same ones that boo-ed fancois steyn for attempting a drop kick?
16 Feb 2010, 09:57 am
@mshiniwami: @Big Hit: So for JDV to move to The Sharks won’t be such a bad choice at all
16 Feb 2010, 10:09 am
I can tell all and sundry that, Juan De Jong has his eyes firmly set on making the World Cup squad,I hope JDV is aware of that.
16 Feb 2010, 10:09 am
@Charlie:
Nope not at all
16 Feb 2010, 10:18 am
Jean should sign with the Bulls. They would welcome some depth at centre and he would be worthy understudy to Meisiekind. He could also improve his game under the expert tutelage of Meisiekindand the coaches. I’m sure he could adapt to the winning culture found at the Bulls if he works hard and put his mind to it.
16 Feb 2010, 10:22 am
Bwahahahahaha
Meisiekind is a decent S14 player but he has done absolutely nothing at test level.
And its not like he hasnt had opportunities.
Jean is a much better player than Wynand!!
16 Feb 2010, 10:24 am
@Duffman:
What?
16 Feb 2010, 10:25 am
francois steyn’s preferred position is 12. I thought i should just throw this in there nje…
16 Feb 2010, 10:25 am
@Duffman:
Change your nic to Dofman.
16 Feb 2010, 10:26 am
@wpw:
It is sad that such petty provincialism would not allow you to see Meisiekind for the superior player he is.
16 Feb 2010, 10:27 am
Good, the Irish don’t deserve the service of such a great player.
Welcome back to the winners circle, Jean.
16 Feb 2010, 10:28 am
@wpw:
16 Feb 2010, 10:29 am
@Dawn:
Are ad hominems the only tactic you have to counter my well reasoned argument?
16 Feb 2010, 10:30 am
@Duffman:
Your argument is anything but well reasoned!
Jean to move to Bulls and LEARN and the feet of Meisiekind?
16 Feb 2010, 10:34 am
@Dawn:
Why would you not want Jean to improve his game? We should not let expertise of world class players like Meisiekind be kept with so few players. You should not be so selfish.
16 Feb 2010, 10:36 am
@PissAnt: @ 58
straight up…!!
16 Feb 2010, 10:41 am
DUFFMAN: I’ve said it many times: In the Super 14 the Bulls got a world class combination in FdP, MS and WO. They play very well off each other. This Friday against the Cheetahs they were brilliant(WO especially!) But unfortunately, the Super 14 is where it stays for WO – maybe he needs more chance in Springbok colors, but he has never been able to emulate his Super 14 form in Internationals. And I don’t think he will ever achieve that.
16 Feb 2010, 10:45 am
@Boss:
As I understand it Meisiekind are simply being rested for the RWC, meanwhile lesser player like Jean are being given chances with the Boks to develop.
16 Feb 2010, 10:48 am
Another chance!!! for WO at bok level, surely, you guys gotta be kidding.
16 Feb 2010, 10:50 am
@Duffman:
Do you also use Timotei shampoo?
16 Feb 2010, 10:50 am
@XhosaKid:
Agree! Another chance to see one of the best centres ever playing for the Boks. Truly we are a blessed nation.
16 Feb 2010, 10:51 am
Ok DUFFMAN, you know you are dreaming right? What is even worse is that you are dreaming of Meisiekind, LOL!!!
16 Feb 2010, 10:52 am
@Dawn:
I would if I could afford it. I guess that is one of the perks being one of the best players in rugby mad country such as ours.
16 Feb 2010, 10:55 am
@Boss:
I am man enough and secure in my sexuality to admit that I occasionally dream of Meisiekind. Do you have the courage?
16 Feb 2010, 11:01 am
@XhosaKid:
16 Feb 2010, 11:01 am
Lol! I will admit to truth, not fiction! But thanks for being so honest, it is a rare quality indeed!
16 Feb 2010, 11:02 am
@Duffman: At least something good happened because of this, you came out of the closet
16 Feb 2010, 11:03 am
Duffman is taking the piss. Dont take him seriously.
WO has what, 20 odd test caps. Jean has over 50 caps and has been our 1st choice inside centre since 2005.
Case closed.
16 Feb 2010, 11:04 am
@Boss: #84 lmao @ “dreaming about meisikind”…
16 Feb 2010, 11:06 am
@Charlie:
It was only once at university and I was drunk!! :angry:
My dominee prayed for me and I was cured since then.
Anyway this discussion is about the great player Meisiekind and how dreamy he look…
16 Feb 2010, 11:08 am
Jean come to the Sharks, we will teach you to play flyhalf. We promise!!
16 Feb 2010, 11:09 am
@Sonito: oh dear… now he’s definitely not gonna go…
16 Feb 2010, 11:10 am
@wpw:
Number of caps is no indication of the quality of a player. Jean got his caps as a place holder while we were waiting for someone better, and that someone better his Mesiekind!
16 Feb 2010, 11:12 am
JdV should go back to WeePee!
Juan de Jongh never passes the ball.
He passed once against the lions and thn Mossie scored a try.
Give Mossie the ball so that he and Dash can show the world why they are regarded as the best!
16 Feb 2010, 11:13 am
@Sonito:
That is a good idea. Jean also played a lot of games at wing. If he add flyhalf to his repertoire he could good become a useful utility player and earn a spot on the bench for the boks.
16 Feb 2010, 11:26 am
If Juan gets another year under Jean and Jaque, all the better for the man who will go on to play many Springbok tests
16 Feb 2010, 11:33 am
@groenie: Groenie, dont show yourself to be as big an @rsehole as those fans are. Why is it always “dutchmen”?
How many “dutchmen” support the Sharks do you think? How many live in Durbs and were there at the Chiefs game?
Ive seen English and Afrikaans Bok “fans” behave just as cringingly bad as each other.
Poephol
16 Feb 2010, 11:36 am
As I intimated last night I wish this guy all the best. He bought into the Munster ethos and wore the jersey with the pride it merits, even when he was out of favour.
Under normal circumstances it would be frustrating to see someone up sticks and leave so soon with the euros but De Villiers did himself and South African rugby proud with his conduct on and off the field.
16 Feb 2010, 12:29 pm
@Duffman: Fourie Du Preez also looked dreamy just after kick-off
16 Feb 2010, 12:46 pm
Lights out: Since the days of Rassie Erasmus’ disco lights the Cheetahs have always been at the forefront of technology as they look to give their team an on-field advantage. We are reliably informed that their latest defensive manoeuvre, dramatically put on display last Friday, is called “The Tripswitch”.
16 Feb 2010, 12:54 pm
Awesome Awesome news. Welcome home Jean!
Can’t wait to see you back in a Bok jumper!
16 Feb 2010, 13:02 pm
Hope JDV doesn’t go back to the Storm Hers.
16 Feb 2010, 13:36 pm
We want all the best players in NZ at the Greatest Rugby Show on Earth, in 2011, so this is great news.
16 Feb 2010, 13:40 pm
Jean’s cousin once visited Durban so he has Shark written all over him.
16 Feb 2010, 13:42 pm
9 Januarie
10 Grant
11 Habana
12 de Villers
13 Fourie
14 Pietersen
15 Jantjes
Next season. Wow.
16 Feb 2010, 13:47 pm

I don’t know what the fuss is… the guy will play 1 super 14 to be local for the world cup and then will move to france afterwards…for a team looking to build for the future is that ideal?
however for a desperate team he will be very attractive…
expect the lions and sharks to push hard for him..

WP should spend their money on a decent flyhalf. They have some quality centre backup.

@Oubaas2009:
That is what we did in the off season.
We signed the SA U20 Player of the Year = Lionel Cronje

@Dawn:
every great stage needs its greatest actors
For 2011, we want every single star player and team at full-strength and peak physical condition. We want referees whistling the same tune. We want attacking rugby rewarded. We want supporters feeling welcome and safe.
can you hear the drums ?

Well he’s a world class player to lead the star studded backline now isn’t he.

@Black Panther:
Do you want the best team to win aswell ?
Can you deal with SA winning another WC…in NZ nogals…

@Black Panther:
You have drums there?

@Oubaas2009:
That what I’ve been saying but lot of people seem to be fixated with this Jean fella.

@Blouste:
Of course, the best team winning is THE most favourable option.
If that is SA then so be it, the tournament would have been a success.
Lets hope its not the luckiest team, nor the last team standing through injuries or health, nor the team benefitting most from referee errors.
The 2 Best Teams in the Final and the whichever team plays the Best rugby, wins.
That would be the ultimate RWC.
