Hougaard miss costs Sarries

Keo.co.za brings you the latest on South African players in Europe.
Derick Hougaard had the opportunity to win a closely-fought contest between Saracens and Bath on Sunday, but his last-minute miss meant the Michael Claassens-led Bath took the spoils 16-14. Saracens flanker Wikus van Heerden scored the only try of the match, and Hougaard kicked three penalties in all, but in the end they were still short.
This game saw a number of South Africans competing, with Brad Barritt, Neil de Kock, Ettienne Reynecke, Mouritz Botha and Ernst Joubert starting for the north Londoners. Schalk Brits came on in the second half.
Bath are still without Springbok flyhalf Butch James but former Stormers forwards Luke Watson and Pieter Dixon featured for the visitors.
Faan Rautenbach started in London Irish’s 29-14 win over Harlequins while another Saffa in Marco Wentzel helped his Leeds side to a 26-10 victory over Wasps on Sunday.
Two more South Africans, Brian Mujati and Juandre Kruger played a big part in Northampton’s 19-3 win over Leicester. Gcobani Bobo‘s contribution was less positive as Newcastle went down 13-0 to Worcester.

If Wickus and Big Joe came back into the Bok squad in time for the RWC I reckon we would have the most balanced set of loosies in our squad in the world…

If you look at our depth, we actually have some fantastic players in most positions abroad who will add value if they return.

@BULLET: ha good point, it was in the newsoftheworld so it could be b/s but it said he’d signed a 15 game deal, who knows but I doubt skop will be happy if it’s true

WORLD CUP winner Ben Kay has agreed to join Jonny Wilkinson at French high-rollers Toulon.
The 32-year-old Leicester second-row has struggled to get a start at Welford Road this season but has bagged a two-year deal that will see him finish his career in France.
The big-spending Top 14 outfit are also targeting Wales’ former World Player of the Year, winger Shane Williams.
England centre Riki Flutey is weighing up offers from Munster, Wasps and Leicester after failing to settle in Brive.
And Bath are resigned to losing fly-half Butch James after he agreed a deal with South Arica’s Stormers to play in next year’s Super 15.

@BULLET: That backline is 3 years past their prime. The Stormers can have them all.

Can’t believe super sport didn’t broadcast the match… We should have a rule… If there is 2/3 Saffa’s playing, they should broadcast it

@Big Hit: going crazy? He’s always went crazy when his team scored and when they won
@Big Hit: doubt it’s true… What are we supposed to do with 4 flyhalves? Sharks should go after him

Joe’s miss for the Stormers was worse…….eish.
Also that young gun namesake of Liefling needs to learn put the ball under the sticks rather than the big dive in the corner!
Help your kicker FFS…….but I suppose some will say Morne pops them over from all corners…..
Have your say
