Toulon take down Castres

Joe van Niekerk led Toulon to a 19-6 win over log leaders Castres in a Top 14 match on Friday.

Van Niekerk and former Stormers team mate Ross Skeate started for Toulon while Cheetahs utility forward Darron Nell was on the Castres bench. In another upset, Sam Gerber scored in Bayonne’s 22-13 victory over Clermont. Willie Wepener started for Clermont and Brent Russell came on in the second half.

Shaun Sowerby and Daan Human again contributed in Toulouse’s 34-3 hammering of Montpellier, while Gerhard Vosloo and Pat Barnard featured in Brive’s 26-14 win over the hapless Stade Francais.

In other Top 14 matches, Perpignan, who had Gerrie Britz and Gavin Hume at their disposal, edged Biarritz 19-14. Bourgoin beat Albi 17-7.
