Sensational Stormers clobber Canes
13 Mar 2010
A physically and tactically superior Stormers side secured the bonus point in their 37-13 spanking of the Hurricanes.
A small sector of the 45 000-strong crowd came to Newlands for what newspaper billboards predicted as a ‘Hurricane warning’. Those South Africans supporting the men in yellow left disappointed, as the Hurricanes never mustered as much as a breeze.
The Stormers were the team that entertained the crowd, but the platform for a spectacular running performance was established through a drive for territory and a clinical forward showing. They cashed in on an early opportunity when the Canes impeded in the first minute, and scored a beautiful try on their next visit to the opposition 22.
The forwards were typically aggressive at the breakdown, and although they didn’t always end up on the right side of referee Steve Walsh, it was their victory at this battle that determined the greater outcome.
Francois Louw made a magnificent steal deep in the Canes’ 22, and the ball was flung as far as outside centre Jaque Fourie. The Springbok fixed his defender before floating the pass to Pietersen, who in turn found Sireli Naqelevuki with the perfect offload.
The big Fijian has been criticised for his relaxed running style, but on this occasion, he could do no wrong. The Canes’ kickers targeted his wing but Naqelevuki often beat the poor kick chase once securing the catch. He was also involved in the Stormers’ second try in the 31st minute when he carried two defenders on his back and handed Pietersen the final pass.
The hosts had ample opportunities which they failed to finish, but they managed to retain possession through their almost masochistic approach to the breakdown and kamikaze-style defence. The visitors made too many errors in Stormers’ territory to build sufficient pressure, and rightly went to the break with a measly three points.
Pietersen missed the first two conversions, but the manner in which the Stormers finished the first half rendered the misses inconsequential.
A lineout on halfway was collected and driven 40m before the ball emerged and travelled towards Bryan Habana’s wing. The Canes’ defence looked to have Habana covered, but a quick recycle saw Dewaldt Duvenage exploiting a massive hole in the flyhalf channel. Duane Vemeulen scored his try unopposed, an atypical score considering how prominently he featured as ground-gaining ball carrier early in the fixture.
The Canes spent the first 10 minutes of the second half camped in the red zone, but determined defence and pressure-enforced errors kept them tryless.
Fourie had an outstanding game as did his centre partner Juan de Jongh. The hard-running youngster got close to scoring in the 53rd minute, as did Brok Harris from the ensuing pick and go. TMO Shaun Veldsman ruled the ball was knocked on, much to the crowd’s annoyance.
But the Stormers stayed hungry, and their territorial and forward dominance continued to irk the out-muscled and out-thought Canes. The visitors failed to collect a loose ball which was hacked and gathered by Peter Grant. Although stopped short, the support arrived in the form of Harris, who wasn’t to be denied a second time.
The score secured the bonus point, and all that remained was for the Stormers to keep the Canes honest in the final quarter. Captain Schalk Burger weighed in with some brutal hits and his team-mates took a cue from his sustained intensity. The Canes continued to blunder, and dangermen like Ma’a Nonu were played out of the game.
David Smith touched down in the 68th minute and Tyson Keats on full-time, tries that cost the Stormers their second consecutive clean sheet. But considering the Canes’ attacking reputation and penchant for pinching tries at the death, the Stormers will be proud to have kept them to two tries. The Stormers also scored their fifth when Fourie ran an angle and powered through the exhausted Canes defence.
The performance is the Stormers’ best to date, and a massive result considering they’ve beaten two traditional giants, the Waratahs and Canes, by a comfortable margin. They’ll be favourites to take the Cheetahs next week, and with that result they’ll head on their Australasian tour with a record of five victories from six matches.
Their attack still isn’t perfect. Ball was spilled in contact and the lineout wobbled on a few occasions, and if synergy is their goal they’ll need to eliminate those errors.
What is a big plus is the Stormers’ defence is still king, as they’ve only conceded four tries in five games. If they can keep the current line-up together, they’re going to be extremely tough to beat.

I’m a lil nervous but I think our boys will pull through.Sireli has to have another big game out wide and hopefully Dewald can put us in good areas of the field. Front 3 go out there and give it to them.
13 Mar 2010, 18:29 pm
Why did Keats go to the Canes just to sit behind Weepu. Maybe he thought they would keep Weepu at 1st five?
13 Mar 2010, 18:33 pm
@Fleckie:
I’m also a bit nervous – as u said the Stormers need to get in the good areas before they start attacking, lets hope their kicking game is up to it.
They cannot afford to make the same handling mistakes as against the Highlanders. These guys will not leave it unpunished.
13 Mar 2010, 19:01 pm
You’re nervous? I think I’m about to puke, I haven’t eaten all day… why’d it have to be the Canes!
13 Mar 2010, 19:06 pm

Good luck to all my stormer mates here.

13 Mar 2010, 19:16 pm
@SpringbokSarah: no need to be nervous, your team does not have Rose playing for the other side.
13 Mar 2010, 19:19 pm
Harris got his head showed up his arse at the last scrum.
13 Mar 2010, 19:19 pm

13 Mar 2010, 19:21 pm
How do you like Sereli now!
13 Mar 2010, 19:22 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Nonu is Mossie’s bunny.
Try Nakalauqu
13 Mar 2010, 19:22 pm

13 Mar 2010, 19:23 pm

13 Mar 2010, 19:23 pm
TRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY STORMERS.
GO STORMERS.
13 Mar 2010, 19:24 pm
Dammit, Joe. Grant should be kicking.
Sireli has upped his work-rate immensely. It was a great pass by Juan, good running by Fourie and fantastic skills by Joe for the final pass to Sireli.
13 Mar 2010, 19:24 pm
@RedLion: Who’s bunny? And I wouldn’t call him a bunny…
13 Mar 2010, 19:24 pm
@Transformation: Yup! Those self-same supporters mocked the Stormers for only winning 33-0
13 Mar 2010, 19:24 pm
@Michael: he just missed one, Peter is recovering from an ankle injury
13 Mar 2010, 19:26 pm

13 Mar 2010, 19:26 pm

@SpringbokSarah: sarah leave the buttcheeks alone
skop loves them
13 Mar 2010, 19:36 pm
Two referee errors right there. Should be a penalty to the Stormers.
13 Mar 2010, 19:37 pm
I swear if Schalk concedes one more penalty, I’m klapping him on Tuesday
@Transformation: I never said I was gonna change it, it was merely an observation… if they wanna show some skin, they should at least have it equal on both sides
13 Mar 2010, 19:39 pm
Harris is giving new meaning to turbo-reversing.
13 Mar 2010, 19:40 pm
anyone provide link for live internet feed please? justin.tv says too much south africans watching the vanillaproject channel
13 Mar 2010, 19:40 pm
#19 Transformation, good point, but why worry about giving up 35 when you’re collecting 50 a game. Still, Stormers must have the stingiest defence in the competition so far. Tonight’s game is a major test.
13 Mar 2010, 19:40 pm
@sglazer: go tell him
Schalk has honestly lost it, all this off the ball rubbish it unnecessary, must be having girl problems
13 Mar 2010, 19:41 pm
harris getting chewed a new one….

roflmao! Sereli you funny man… knock em out
13 Mar 2010, 19:45 pm
Jane concussed himself when he hit the ground at the wrong angle. Great bump-off by Sireli though. I didn’t think the pass was forward?
13 Mar 2010, 19:45 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter: unfortunate i don’t have premium account
13 Mar 2010, 19:46 pm

@Michael: they don’t want to strain it, Joe’s doing just fine.
@chch – welcome back Carter: they gonna fire him too?
13 Mar 2010, 19:52 pm
these box kicks by duvenhage are useless…
Francois Louw throws a k@k pass to habana, Bobby Skinstad tells us he loves the creativity from the stormers *sigh*
13 Mar 2010, 19:55 pm
@Transformation:
bob loves his stormers!
13 Mar 2010, 19:58 pm

Go Stormers.
13 Mar 2010, 20:00 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Sarah, do u feel a bit better now?
13 Mar 2010, 20:00 pm
it’s starting to feel a bit better being a stormers supporter . . . yeah!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:01 pm
3rd try on half time thanks a span for coming
Anyone that says Stormers babes aren’t most beautiful chicka’s in the comp are seriously blind.
Most beautiful cheerleaders I ever seen. And the boys are trying to do them some justice this time.
3 tries in 40 min. 1 more to go and we on track for some real possibilities this year.
13 Mar 2010, 20:01 pm
GO STORMERS!!! Do it for SA! I do not like the Stormers at all. But, damn it, the Bulls need some “friends” at the top of the log!
13 Mar 2010, 20:01 pm
Its the Storm that creates the Hurricane. Not the Hurricane that creates the Storm.
13 Mar 2010, 20:02 pm
Going to be two saffa sides in the top.
Bulls and Stormers. Maybe Tahs and Saders.
That how it looks to me so far.
Go Stormers just keep the pressure up. Doing very well so far.
13 Mar 2010, 20:03 pm
Western Cape, Brazilian, Italian, Iranian and Maltese women are the most beautiful in the world, imo.
Storming girls make the others look like East German shotputters.
13 Mar 2010, 20:03 pm
@skopskiet: What? The Bulls babes still not back? Haha, they were starting to look too skinny in my opinion, but the Stormers cheer squad at least have some well-build women, not skinny little chicks! Go Stormers!
13 Mar 2010, 20:04 pm
Its the Storm that creates the Hurricane.
13 Mar 2010, 20:05 pm
@skopskiet: Come on Skop, All the Saffa babes are beautiful. All of them, that is something this country is blessed in, is beautiful woman.
13 Mar 2010, 20:05 pm
Stormers have missed 4 tackles compared to the Puffy Wind’s 14.
13 Mar 2010, 20:06 pm
stormers too good for the canes today..
must say Im not a fan of the rolling maul, nothing but legalised obstruction…
13 Mar 2010, 20:06 pm
Come on my boys – keep them tryless.
13 Mar 2010, 20:06 pm
Dewald is having a great match so far.
Jaque F is also getting back into form while Naqualavuki is having a blinder.
They must just not slack off in the 2nd half again.
13 Mar 2010, 20:07 pm
@Michael: Stop that nonsense. All the South African woman are really beautiful. Not only in a little corner of the Cape, all the country. We can have our chests out with that. Our saffa woman are beautiful.
13 Mar 2010, 20:07 pm
Dewaldt is the future of Stormers rugby. His showing all the idiots that doubted him last we, the blue bull scum bags that said he is a cheap version of De Preez
13 Mar 2010, 20:07 pm
@Robzim: you have no idea
I am actually hungry
13 Mar 2010, 20:08 pm
Robzim you still aiming to bring ou doos carthorse Willem De Waal into this team to stuff up all the go forward momentum or some of that sleep slowly starting to get wiped from off your eyes.
Peter Grant is the chief pivotal general and don’t let anyone try tell you otherwise.
Team is clicking so far. Hope it continues into next half and Duvenhage and Grant don’t start skopping it to nowhere again.
Only one still frustrated to hell is poor old Bryan Habana. He should just settle down and ball will come to him, he’s getting far too anxious for my liking.
13 Mar 2010, 20:08 pm
@Michael: our defence has been awesome
@Kondi: aaawww that’s so sweet
13 Mar 2010, 20:09 pm
Anyhow, Gooooooooooooooooo Stormers in the 2nd half. We should have two saffa teams on top of the log after this game.
13 Mar 2010, 20:10 pm
Nothing makes an old loosie’s heart smile as much as a 30m rolling maul.
13 Mar 2010, 20:10 pm
@Puma:
Since yesterday here is even more beauty in the Cape.
Gabriela Sabatini has hit town to do the Argus !!
13 Mar 2010, 20:11 pm
@Puma: Of course SA women are beautiful. The Cape women are merely more so
[And the women that the Bulls have are ugly by comparison]
13 Mar 2010, 20:12 pm
@skopskiet:
#84
I have to admit that Peter is doing OK today so far.
We got to get 5 points today.
13 Mar 2010, 20:12 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Fourie is marshalling our defence superbly.
13 Mar 2010, 20:12 pm
@Robzim: Well enjoy it mate. She is a beauty for sure. Have I got it wrong, was she that great tennis player from Arg? If so she is beautiful.
We have some real beautiful woman in SA though. Something we take pride in here.
13 Mar 2010, 20:13 pm
@Robzim: OOOHHHHHHHH. She is one damn hot woman.
Really annoyed that I can’t fly back home to do the Argus. I raced it for many a year when I was home.
13 Mar 2010, 20:14 pm
Stormers still don’t have a top class front row in spite of what some of us think we getting shoved off the ball by these guys. One blatant weakness that dogs our game. Still need a tight head prop of some magnitude to take up all that pap slack up front.
13 Mar 2010, 20:14 pm
@Michael: it’s not just one dude though
13 Mar 2010, 20:15 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Of course not but you have leaders in the team whose responsibility it is to oversee aspects. Fourie’s responsibility is marshalling the defence.
13 Mar 2010, 20:16 pm
@Michael: You need to see em Flasher Girls from the Sharks
They have been scarce, so few games at the Tank so far, but you will see our beautiful ladies.
Ag, really SA woman are beautiful all of them.
13 Mar 2010, 20:16 pm
@skopskiet: Yup. Harris’ arse is sore.
13 Mar 2010, 20:16 pm
usually when you kick like that it is advantage over from a knock on
13 Mar 2010, 20:17 pm
Okay out of here for now.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STORMERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS JUST DO IT. ONE MORE TRY.
13 Mar 2010, 20:17 pm
@Puma: I’ll keep my eye open for them next time
13 Mar 2010, 20:17 pm
@Puma:
Thats correct Puma, the dark haired Argie.
Hugo Porta is also cycling with her.
Lance A is also here – he cycled with a couple of celebrities the other day, including Makaya Ntini.
Ntini reckoned he is never going to wash his hand again after shooking Lance’s hand
13 Mar 2010, 20:18 pm
where was the advantage then
Steve Walsh has always been a complete idiot … why is he still a top ref
13 Mar 2010, 20:19 pm
When Stormers win this match with the bonus point, South African teams will be 1-2 on the log!! WOW!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:20 pm
@Darquan: And none at 14!! Bigger WOW!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:20 pm
Hahahahahaha. “Thrush” is on. Close legs boys.
13 Mar 2010, 20:21 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter:
#103
According to the 3 women who is watching the game with us he is the most good looking ref in the super 14, so at least he has something going for him
13 Mar 2010, 20:23 pm
dammit Bryan
13 Mar 2010, 20:25 pm
rolling the ball forward on the ground is an offense
you can place it but not push it
13 Mar 2010, 20:25 pm
@Michael: really? thought that would have been Schalk
@Puma:
13 Mar 2010, 20:28 pm
very accurate TMO decision
only Walsh and the commentator said it was a knock on … he pushed it on the ground (as the TMO said)
Walsh can’t even listen to what he is told
13 Mar 2010, 20:30 pm
how many times do the Canes go into touch …. not smart at all
13 Mar 2010, 20:32 pm
BROK HARRIS TRY, BONUS POINT!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:32 pm
Canes need to turn all this pressure into points if they want to win… not looking likely, Stormers defence is awesome..
13 Mar 2010, 20:32 pm
Thank you very much Peter Grant and Brok the frock scoring bonus try between them. Suck it up all you Peter Grant doubters.
13 Mar 2010, 20:33 pm
not a good day with the boot either
the Stormers playing well … game over
13 Mar 2010, 20:33 pm
27-3 Stormers
13 Mar 2010, 20:34 pm
Bonus point provided for Brokkie!
13 Mar 2010, 20:34 pm
Grant is playing damn goed.
13 Mar 2010, 20:35 pm
@skopskiet: aaawww you like Peter too?
13 Mar 2010, 20:35 pm
Stormers bonus point. BRILLIANT. Two saffa sides making us proud this weekend.
13 Mar 2010, 20:35 pm
@Michael: he always does
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
@SpringbokSarah: He is recapturing the form of 2008.
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
Skop, you got it right about Grant, as long as deadn eye joe is kicking above 70%, we don’t need De Waal
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
Grant is playing well today – he owned us that.
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
@poppa69: Poppa, If Canes struggling here mate they sure going to struggle in the altitude. I mean that with honesty. I know Bulls defence was not good tonight but next week they will tighten it up.
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
thats how much my stream is lagging, Only just seeing the stormers try now.. eish, give up watching, has been lagging the whole game…
13 Mar 2010, 20:36 pm
@Puma: to make up for the disgrace we call the Lions?
No offence RedLion
13 Mar 2010, 20:37 pm
Hello all, Stormers lookinh good!
13 Mar 2010, 20:38 pm
Ripia didn’t go that well today
13 Mar 2010, 20:38 pm
@Puma: a weeks a long time in Super rugby Puma, anything can happen, perhaps a neutral ref at Loftus for a change? Highlanders were ripped of and bulls lucky to be awarded 14 popints, landers should have lost by one …
13 Mar 2010, 20:39 pm
Canes have run out of ideas, stormers defence too good!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:39 pm
going to drop about 50 kajillion places in superbru now, keep going stormers, more tries means less get the margin point…
13 Mar 2010, 20:40 pm
i thought that no try was penalty canes. but veldsman’s never been the best tv ref.
not as bad as the other guy whose name i forget.
13 Mar 2010, 20:40 pm
Bonus point whoohoo!I can go to bed now, had a horrible day playing cricket in unbelievable heat. Good luck Stormers, close this one out for me (even though I dislike you hehe)
13 Mar 2010, 20:41 pm
and here I thought this was going to be a good close game… Canes are rubbish, only NZ team with a realistic chance is the Saders now IMO…
meanwhile, Eng struggling to put the scots away, bet Big Hit goes missing for a few weeks if they dont beat the kilted clan…
13 Mar 2010, 20:43 pm
buggers
13 Mar 2010, 20:44 pm
Januarie has left his head at home
13 Mar 2010, 20:44 pm
I think Vita thought he was placing the ball over the try line :0
13 Mar 2010, 20:46 pm
Peter Louw also has a SKULLET…hahahaha
like Andy Goode
13 Mar 2010, 20:47 pm
Stormers just having fun here now
13 Mar 2010, 20:48 pm
The Hurricanes are cleaner today, but they still have that dirty edge about them
13 Mar 2010, 20:48 pm
aaawww why they wanna shoulder charge Peter?
13 Mar 2010, 20:48 pm
@poppa69: @poppa69: The money we got from selling Habana, we use to bribe the refs. Brilliant strategy dont you think? Always 1 ahead of you sorry lot.
13 Mar 2010, 20:49 pm
not so smart from Nonu. he may think it is funny but he will be watched next week
13 Mar 2010, 20:49 pm
In a few years time, Andries Bekker is going to be an awesome lock
13 Mar 2010, 20:49 pm
Canes just love this side line
13 Mar 2010, 20:50 pm
nonu has been non-existent, and Soialo is past his use by date too…
13 Mar 2010, 20:50 pm
@Transformation: and a giant mole… when I 1st met him I had an Austin Powers flashback
13 Mar 2010, 20:51 pm
@sglazer: what you mean few years? He’s awesome now, in a few years he will be the best in the world
13 Mar 2010, 20:51 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter: what else must they do?
13 Mar 2010, 20:52 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
I think he’s developing into an awesome lock
13 Mar 2010, 20:52 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter:
and again
13 Mar 2010, 20:53 pm
@Senga: nice, always love a gracious winner… well done…
13 Mar 2010, 20:54 pm
That penalty has been a long time coming. The Hurricanes have been slowing the ball down much of the time.
13 Mar 2010, 20:54 pm
Senga, take a look at the last two Sharks game threads, see the outrage there about refs, cant handle it when its given back huh… bye now..
13 Mar 2010, 20:55 pm
aawww Deon looks so tiny next to Beks
13 Mar 2010, 20:55 pm
Good game by stormers, they are looking good. Nakelevuki is really playing well. Schalk has another good game.
13 Mar 2010, 20:56 pm
Hahahahahahahaha Tamati Ellison is the worst player I’ve ever seen in my life! This Hurricanes team are a real bunch of retards! Well done Stormers!
I hate the SA commentators sooooo much. They are so afraid to express their feelings and they never make jokes or anything. We got Stransky with his little fairy voice, Hugh Bladen who just loves stating the obvious, Bob Skinstad who is so optimistic all the time it makes me want to vomit and Matt Pierce who is seemingly incapable of cracking a smile. The Australian commentators always make me laugh and they always speak out about their opinions. In this game at one time Bob Skinstad said “I might be in trouble there” when he disagreed with the ref on something….Get over yourself Bob! Seriously! Are we not allowed to have different views to the ref now? The SA commentators really are lame.
13 Mar 2010, 20:56 pm
Second week in a row only 1 win by the allblack sides and only in a derby.
13 Mar 2010, 20:56 pm
Try
13 Mar 2010, 20:56 pm
looks like another try
big win here, Stormers look top 4 material
13 Mar 2010, 20:57 pm
@sglazer: but he is so awesome already! Pace, fierce in the tackle, knows his way to the tryline… step aside Matfield!
13 Mar 2010, 20:57 pm
And the Hurricanes return home after their grueling two week tour of the Republic
13 Mar 2010, 20:57 pm
Go Jaque!
13 Mar 2010, 20:58 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
13 Mar 2010, 20:58 pm
Cheers Jaque, great game!!
13 Mar 2010, 20:58 pm
@timo: yep, considering most of them travelled though, yet Saffa sides that travelled havent done too well either, home advantage really is a lot in S14…
13 Mar 2010, 20:59 pm
Those Stormers players can’t contain their joy. They’ve been in the grave for so long, it’s nice to feel the sun.
13 Mar 2010, 20:59 pm
try to Canterbury …. I mean Keats
13 Mar 2010, 20:59 pm
@sglazer: they play the bulls at roftus, in what is it, their 4th home game in a row now? probably with another Saffa ref too
13 Mar 2010, 20:59 pm
@poppa69: Stormers tend to play better away from home in the past… dying to see what’s happening this year
13 Mar 2010, 21:00 pm
Kaap naai!!!
13 Mar 2010, 21:00 pm
meanwhile, Eng draw with the Scots…
13 Mar 2010, 21:01 pm
Dis lekka om te Stormer te is!
13 Mar 2010, 21:01 pm
Well done stormers!
13 Mar 2010, 21:02 pm
“Sensational Stormers clobber Canes”
Best headline ever.
13 Mar 2010, 21:02 pm
totally outplayed the Canes, well done Stormers, deserve 2nd on the log..
13 Mar 2010, 21:02 pm
congrats again to the Stormers
the Reds should clean up against the Farce
Looks like the Bulls are top 4 definite
Stormers and Saders are top 4 probable
13 Mar 2010, 21:03 pm
Well done Stormers, very good victory, pity about letting that last try in though.
13 Mar 2010, 21:03 pm
@sglazer: exactly! You should have seen the changing room last week!
13 Mar 2010, 21:03 pm
@poppa69: In the past they won though poppa i mean look at the hurricanes and highlanders record against the stormers bulls etc. Then again our two teams travelling are not doing great either but at least the sharks are in it at the end. Stormers have been thrashing these last two weeks.
13 Mar 2010, 21:04 pm
Well Done Stormers. Very good win.
Two our two best sides.
Go the Bullssssssssssssssssssss
Go the Stormersssssssssssssssss
To Scotland to draw with England. WELL DONE SCOTLAND. They not a good side but to draw with England is great.
Go my Scottish friends and celebrate. England are pure rubbish this year. Need a new coach for sure.
13 Mar 2010, 21:04 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter: @poppa69: Gents, thanks for your display of good sportsmanship. Better luck next time.
13 Mar 2010, 21:05 pm
Two saffa teams top the log. I am proud.
Cheers all.
13 Mar 2010, 21:06 pm
2 Saffa teams at top of the log – cool!
13 Mar 2010, 21:06 pm
@poppa69:
yep kieran read there to stay for ABs. soialo only good on bench as he covers all 3 positions.
13 Mar 2010, 21:06 pm
Now the reds need to beat the force for my superbru as well as to keep a non saffa side firmly rooted to the bottom of the log. The lions it does appear is going to put up a helluva fight for their spot so the force better be looking out for them.
13 Mar 2010, 21:07 pm
South Africa are gonna absolutely kill in the tri-nations. All the Aus and NZ teams seem to not be capable of catching the ball
13 Mar 2010, 21:08 pm
@rugbywriter: i agree, the aussie commentators are the best!! I enjoy them immensely!
13 Mar 2010, 21:09 pm
stormers owned the canes.. pity we let x2 soft tries in! well done stormers
13 Mar 2010, 21:10 pm
Sereli MoM. – well done, great comeback after taking a lot of abuse from the local fans.
Respect.
13 Mar 2010, 21:11 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter: aaawww thanks man, appreciate it
13 Mar 2010, 21:12 pm
@timo: full credit to the two teams at the top of the log, they are playing awesome rugby that is a joy to watch… rugby fan first and foremost…
Stormers are building the momentum of their sterling defence, one try in 160 minutes is credit to that…gives you confidence which they seem full of at the moment..
Bulls have been blitzing teams, either coming home strongly or starting on fire… defence is not an issue when you are scoring 50 consistently, and they havent really been tested, Tahs perhaps come the closest to doing that…
Sharks are getting their slowly, I think they will register their first win next week, and with all their bonus points are still not out of the competition yet…
13 Mar 2010, 21:12 pm
They should keep Januarie out of the team. We should bring back Delport.
13 Mar 2010, 21:13 pm
@rugbywriter: putting the cart before the horse there, but continue… we kiwi fans know what the crash is like
13 Mar 2010, 21:14 pm
@Robzim: and when I said he was a good player I got laughed at… can’t keep a good man down…
who is nexy on Sereli’s hit list?
13 Mar 2010, 21:14 pm
@Robzim: Sireli owes us Stormer/WP fans big time after the high tackle in the semi final last year, it seems like he intends making amends
13 Mar 2010, 21:14 pm
@munkiboi: Read has been playing well, very mobile and gets through a lot of work for a number 8… I still think our biggest mistake was letting Deans go, that is going to come back and haunt us I believe…
13 Mar 2010, 21:16 pm
Stormer looking better than ever before. Really impressed with the way they played tonight. They took apart the Canes with ease and never looked like they had to get out of 2nd gear to win. Very comfortable win for them. No areas of major concern or weaknesses I can see. If Stormers keep this up they could go all the way.
13 Mar 2010, 21:17 pm
@poppa69: Sharks are dead and buried my friend.
13 Mar 2010, 21:18 pm
Kyk Skoppie weet F’all van rugby
Always critisizing the Duchmen in the team, Fourie is/will be class for a long time
13 Mar 2010, 21:18 pm
@poppa69:
deans was great with the saders. but even blackadder is showing all you need is mccaw and carter to succeed.
ABs have 3 very good coaches. perhaps a case of too many cooks?
13 Mar 2010, 21:19 pm
@munkiboi: If the ABs are feeling generous they could send one of their coaches to Durban.
13 Mar 2010, 21:19 pm
am chuffed with stormers form this season. but they have dropped points at home to brumbies and still have to go to oz.
thats said, only a 4 match tour this year – min 8 points required from those!
13 Mar 2010, 21:19 pm
@modawg:
13 Mar 2010, 21:20 pm
May 15 at Newlands – Last S14 game of the season. Stormers vs Bulls. Gonna be 1 moerse battle.
13 Mar 2010, 21:20 pm
@munkiboi:
For the team the Crusaders have on paper this year things should be going a lot more smoothly though
The only worry prior to the start of season was 12 and 13 but Crotty and Fruen are going well
13 Mar 2010, 21:21 pm
SpringBokSarah 4 a chick u seem 2 no quite abit bout rugby. Everyone look at that first posting, I was Right,Sireli had a huge game and even won man of the match,9 put us in great areas and our scrum was decent. Bekker is beta than Vic
13 Mar 2010, 21:22 pm
@Senga: That’s gonna be one hell of a game!
13 Mar 2010, 21:23 pm
@Senga: ****… we’re screwed
@Fleckie: there are a lot of girls who know and love rugby
13 Mar 2010, 21:24 pm
@munkiboi: Ja if the Stormers can win at least 2 out of 4 and win the rest of their home games they should be able to book a place in the final 4 but if they want a home-semi they should be targetting 3 out of 4.
Two Saffa teams at the top of the log. Lovely to see!
13 Mar 2010, 21:24 pm
Look Jake White said that AC should be Bok coach
13 Mar 2010, 21:25 pm
@munkiboi: I just think 7 or 8 years at the helm of an international rugby team is too long… You need that fresh injection of ideas to continue to move forward as a team…
I also think Deans is a much better man manager, and seems to be able to get his players to lift…
Meyer at the Bulls a little different, he basically built them up from scratch, so he is now reaping the benefits of the great structures he has implemented..
13 Mar 2010, 21:25 pm
It is along shot but after the Cheetahs lose to the Stormers next week. The Cheetahs might have a chance of get to the semi-finals.
13 Mar 2010, 21:27 pm
@JL1: he’s not going anywhere until I have both the Super 14 and the Currie Cup
13 Mar 2010, 21:28 pm
@Fleckie: “SpringBokSarah 4 a chick u seem 2 no quite abit bout rugby.”
Dude, is that your idea of a compliment? What century are you from?
13 Mar 2010, 21:28 pm
Stormers have a great opportunity to make a home semi from here.
Next week Cheetahs at home – they will try and spoil but the Stormers should take at least 4 points.
Then a week break before the tour – starting at Perth, which is a good place to start and gain momentum – it is not such a long hop from home and the Force is struggling.
At least 9-10 points out of 20 at tour should set us up nicely for a home semi.
13 Mar 2010, 21:28 pm
@Kondi:
You would have to say that the Blues and Cheetahs are still in this as outside chances.
13 Mar 2010, 21:28 pm
Time for me to leave work, to the victors go the spoils..
cheers
13 Mar 2010, 21:29 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Just be patient, girl
13 Mar 2010, 21:30 pm
@poppa69: bye bye
13 Mar 2010, 21:31 pm
@JL1: not my strongest point
good things come to those who wait, greatness you’ve got to go fetch yourself
13 Mar 2010, 21:33 pm
@chch – welcome back Carter:
The Cheetahs do not have much of a chance – they have never won a match on tour (in their history) and I doubt whether they will win more than one (at the most) this time either.
13 Mar 2010, 21:36 pm
The Bulls vs Stormers match is gonna be awesome. The best attack in the comp against the best defence. Although I think the kiwi teams and the brumbies haven’t hit their stride yet. So you never know what kind of form reversals could happen by the end of the season. Plus neither the bulls nor the stormers have played away from home yet. But when they do they’ll have huge momentum and confidence.
Good game Stormers — the Hurricanes really can’t complain about that one. They were well beaten.
13 Mar 2010, 21:37 pm
@Kondi:
13 Mar 2010, 21:38 pm
I have still 2 months to stress about the Bulls and Stormers games
13 Mar 2010, 21:42 pm
No ****…
13 Mar 2010, 21:44 pm
I have to admit, I had to laugh towards the end! The Hurricanes was completely bereft of ideas, totally decimated! What an awesome defense the Stormers have!!! And with the Hurricanes resorting to argie-bargie, it just shows once again what sore losers Kiwi’s are. No reason why the Stormers can’t win at least a couple overseas.
13 Mar 2010, 21:44 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Yeah, it will be payback time at Newlands in 2 months time.
We will make them suffer,u will see.
13 Mar 2010, 21:46 pm
@Robzim: how do you have so much confidence?
13 Mar 2010, 21:49 pm
@BokiNZ:
Stormers can beat The Force, The Blues (tight), The Reds (tricky but can be done)and even the Chiefs.
The no **** Stormers.
13 Mar 2010, 21:50 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Remember I was around at the time when we won the Currie cup 5 times in a row.
It made me strong.
13 Mar 2010, 21:52 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: we’re looking good
13 Mar 2010, 21:52 pm
@Robzim: the unfairness of it all
13 Mar 2010, 21:53 pm
Well well well – From Stuttering Stormers to Sensational Stormers…in one week! I suppose that just”perspective” or what?
13 Mar 2010, 21:53 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: All they need to do is make sure they pack in their tight defensive line and put the tight5 grunt in their carry-on luggage and it’s overs!!!! I see the Reds as their toughest assignment.
13 Mar 2010, 21:53 pm
every team needs a hardman – Vermeulen is it for the Stormers
13 Mar 2010, 21:54 pm
KONDI you see the blood! I make example!! STOMERS Jou lekker ding!
13 Mar 2010, 21:55 pm
I’m starving… brb
13 Mar 2010, 21:55 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!:
Yeah, the Force are fairly useless, the Reds have no depth and always fade during the second half of the tourno, the Blues are erratic and the Lions scored nearly 50 points against the Chiefs.
The Stormers should expect to win at least 3/4.
13 Mar 2010, 21:57 pm
@PLAYA23: PLAYA23 I will make you face.
13 Mar 2010, 21:58 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
We are…but we’ll keep our cool. Hang tough and take the prize every week and shine with that Cape wizardry. It’s time we stood up and made every move count.
13 Mar 2010, 21:59 pm
@SpringbokSarah: I think the Stormers good defence is the key to beating the Bulls
13 Mar 2010, 21:59 pm
I’ll punch you through this screen. Seriously!
13 Mar 2010, 21:59 pm
@BokiNZ:
I agree.
13 Mar 2010, 22:00 pm
@BokiNZ: The Chiefs are also a tricky one.
13 Mar 2010, 22:01 pm
@PLAYA23: I will tell the 27s to take care of you.
13 Mar 2010, 22:02 pm
I’n very stoked that Sireli had a good game. Sharp-sharp my larney!!
13 Mar 2010, 22:03 pm
Anyone read about the Australian journalists who tested the security at Christchurch by pretending to be terrorists?
13 Mar 2010, 22:03 pm
I can’t believe what a kind draw the Stormers and Bulls have this season. The only team with possibly a better one is the chiefs, not that it’ll do them any good.
Hopefully it’ll lull your players into a false sense of security so the Aus teams can swoop next season and enter the WC with unstoppable momentum.
I’m willing to write off this season to that end.
13 Mar 2010, 22:08 pm
@PLAYA23:
I thought all Aussies were terrorists.
13 Mar 2010, 22:08 pm
@Kondi: Maybe, but a confused Shark team with a toothless attack and injury ravaged Force should’ve given them 2nd thoughts. The Lions effort should’ve realy set the alarm bells ringing. And then of course their was the Reds and Crusaders games…You gys should realy not believe everything the Sky commentators tell you (nxt time have a listen how they hype-up Carter, even with dead ordinary play!
) Chiefs is not that good, Stormers is better!
13 Mar 2010, 22:09 pm
Anybody for pizza?
13 Mar 2010, 22:12 pm
@SJonesIsAGit: Dangerous game to play tho. Go and ask Graham Henry. 2007 S14 gave us huge momentum and you know how that yr ended, don’t you?
13 Mar 2010, 22:14 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: omg that’s what I’m eating
13 Mar 2010, 22:14 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!:
13 Mar 2010, 22:15 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: Yeah and I guess their refs are the instructers!
13 Mar 2010, 22:16 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
From Col’cacchio…the best pizzas in the west.
13 Mar 2010, 22:17 pm
@PLAYA23:
13 Mar 2010, 22:20 pm
So, now the Bulls and the Stormers head off Down Under as the golden summer ends and the wet cold winter chill sets in and they get their beans as usual and they see their big-brag title hopes tank.
Missing their mommies. And whining and weeping and bleating about their phantom and imaginary “travel disadvantage”? Boo hoo hoo.
Same old, same old, hey?
The tournament starts moving, inexorably, to the business end. The point where the finisher overtakes the flash-harry.
13 Mar 2010, 22:23 pm
@TheTackler: And which team do you support?
13 Mar 2010, 22:23 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: it is the best, Jean’s fave restaurant
@TheTackler: What? Bulls are screwed… watch the Stormers sore!
13 Mar 2010, 22:24 pm
@TheTackler:
The Stormers traditionally tour well.
The Bullies also surprised many last year overseas.
Things are looking good for 2 teams in the semi’s.
13 Mar 2010, 22:25 pm
@TheTackler: Uhhm… ja swaer! Bulls got 4/5 lst yr. Who is their toughest opponents? The “Mighty” Chiefs with the “Dangerous” Kahui? At the mo they’re playing like the little wanna-be indians they are, let alone “chiefs”! Gmmff! Once again you’ve shown your lost touch with reality!
13 Mar 2010, 22:25 pm
@TheTackler: Your beloved Hurricanes missed something today, not sure what though
13 Mar 2010, 22:27 pm
@SpringbokSarah: wait I think that’s the wrong sore
13 Mar 2010, 22:27 pm
@JL1: I think it was a game plan.
13 Mar 2010, 22:29 pm
I have to say that the Kiwis side are really battling now that they have lost so many players to the NH and had to pick more Islanders from around them
13 Mar 2010, 22:29 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
De Jongh or De Vlliers?
13 Mar 2010, 22:30 pm
@PLAYA23: roflmao
13 Mar 2010, 22:31 pm
@The return of the killer instinct…Go Stormers!: Jean not Juan
13 Mar 2010, 22:31 pm
@BokiNZ: That’s what I’m saying. We let you have this season and make next season our own. The draw next season can’t be worse than the draw this season for the Brumbies and Waratahs. Getting the Stormers and Bulls back-to-back so early in the season, away from home and with both teams still adjusting to new players in key positions was brutal. Those kind of games you need to be in reasonable form for, which neither were imo.
Not making excuses — just suggesting both teams would probably have acquitted themselves better if they had a few more matches under their belts. Especially the Brumbies, who are carrying an uncharacteristically anonymous Giteau at the moment.
13 Mar 2010, 22:31 pm
@PLAYA23: bwhahahaha!
Try that sht with the Bulls next weekend and they will make you feel like you stuck in the Bangkok Hilton
13 Mar 2010, 22:31 pm
@TheTackler: People like you should shut up if you got nothing intelligent to say.
13 Mar 2010, 22:32 pm
@SJonesIsAGit: Those Aussies teams are just making up the numbers anyhow
13 Mar 2010, 22:32 pm
Still think Ricky should get the lionshare of the gametime. No way Duvenhage is gonna make Boks, AC not helping out here! A fit and in form January is my pick to start against the AB’s any day of the week! Showed again tonite. He was in their faces, the minute he came on!!! :grrr:
13 Mar 2010, 22:33 pm
@PLAYA23:
Yeah, they looked pretty grey today.
13 Mar 2010, 22:36 pm
@SJonesIsAGit: Well, we might have something to say about that. Hoepfully the Sharks will also decide to play footy again. But I noticed…what’s up with Gitz? Mortlock too I suspect?
13 Mar 2010, 22:38 pm
@BokiNZ: who cares about the Boks now… who’s helping the Stormers more? Duvies. Therefore he needs more game time… Ricky can go play Vodacom Cup
13 Mar 2010, 22:39 pm
@BokiNZ: @229 “it just shows once again what sore losers Kiwi’s are. ”
if you look back over this thread, the kiwis have actually congratulated the saffa sides for the way they play, so not sure where the sore loser part comes in… I dare say you wouldnt see the same sportsmanship from many Saffas here… blaming some poor excuse like a conspiracy…
good to see you are so arrogant 5 rounds into the competition…
13 Mar 2010, 22:40 pm
@poppa69: didn’t you go work? or am I confused?
13 Mar 2010, 22:42 pm
The Bulls have to lose sooner or later… against who though?
13 Mar 2010, 22:43 pm
@SpringbokSarah: I left work to come home.. 40 minute walk… going to bed shortly
13 Mar 2010, 22:45 pm
With JF in the backline, stormers don’t need a defence coach. I think thats the reason for being the best defence this season. Just looking for something to get the backline ticking
13 Mar 2010, 22:45 pm
@poppa69: ooooooooohhhh!
13 Mar 2010, 22:45 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Now listen here young lady (hopefully I’m not presuming too much
), Bokke always, ALWAYS first! And you’re assuming playing Ricky, Stormers lose something in their attack. What I like about Duvenhageis his speed and accuracy at the ruck. No knock-ons. But Ricky is a million-kmh-man, it is was makes him great. So he makes the odd error, but that defense!!
13 Mar 2010, 22:46 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Juan did well today – much improved display – he tackled very well and his distribution was also much better than last week – Jean is still tops but Juan is getting there.
13 Mar 2010, 22:46 pm
@liefling: no no no. We need him. Don’t put ideas like that in their head
13 Mar 2010, 22:46 pm
@Kondi: Practise what you preach.
13 Mar 2010, 22:50 pm
@BokiNZ: No idea what Git’s problem is. Apart from 2 decent games (for the baa-baas and vs wales) he’s been terrible ever since Tuqiri got the sack. Hopefully the timing is coincidental. I guess he’s only been back from injury for a few weeks though. He doesn’t look 100%.
As for Morty, sadly he’s on his last legs. We’ll keep him around though so we can bring him out to terrify the kiwis if we play them in the WC. The very sight of him in gold makes them go to pieces.
13 Mar 2010, 22:50 pm
@BokiNZ: well I’m Sarah, a girl, who is 16… nope you hit the nail on the head
lol not from Feb-May… my team hasn’t won anything since I was in grade 2… I’d like to see them get something before I leave school. Ricky is not up to scratch… he can join the team again when he is, that means dieting, extra gym time and unsupervised training
@Robzim: er I was talking about Col’cacchio’s being JEAN’S favourite restaurant but yes I am a Juan fan
13 Mar 2010, 22:51 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Sarah, how are u doing on superbru?
I managed to draw equal to Carol today – the poor girl backed the Canes to win – you need to do some more “teaching” on her!
Tell her there is life after Percy.
13 Mar 2010, 22:53 pm
@Robzim: er haven’t been making picks at all… lol oops, I’m aiming for the wooden spoon like Force and Lions… and Sharkies for that matter
13 Mar 2010, 22:54 pm
@Robzim: She backed the Canes! sies… well that ought to teach her
13 Mar 2010, 22:56 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Ricky can relax and have another pie tonight.
The Canes scrumhalf is fatter than him.
Did u notice?
13 Mar 2010, 22:59 pm
@Robzim: But the Canes lost… so this cannot be a good thing
Nothing but salads, soup, fruit and water!
13 Mar 2010, 23:02 pm
@poppa69: Then you should talk to your fellow compatriots I work with everyday! Let me break it down for you…
Tommorrow we will be talking rugby? No! ‘Cause the only winning Kiwi team won a local derby. Maybe we’ll talk cricket and the Black CRAPS? HELL NO! Aussies handed it back to them on a plate. How’s Danny Lee going? F@cked if I know, don’t even know if he’s still alive. So that’s out then! What else…what else? Uhhmm…how about the yachting? Yeah!! Team NZ won again! Nevermind if I know about yachting as little as what is going on inside their heads, nor do I care to! But I assure you, that is what will dominate the discussion tommorow.
Now the flip side to that is, as per illustration, Rnd 3, where the Kiwi’s had an unbelievable week with all 5 teams winning! I couldn’t get a single word in! Couldn’t even resort to the favorite and EXCLUSIVELY Saffa passtime of blaming the ref!!
I don’t mind realy, ’cause results of late went my way. Did I rub it in? At first, you bet I did!! But noticing the effect, where your mates take the long route just to avoid you, or staying out of the office ALL DAY
I don’t know, I’m sure there’s more I can dig up but in the end, what’s the point. I’m pretty sure it’s a national thing though. I’ve been here long enough to know! You’re a nation with good people, most of them. Really! Not just when you’re losing!
13 Mar 2010, 23:03 pm
Weepu is oficially the fattest scrumhalf in the super 14.
He beats Ricky by half a kilo and he is a centimeter shorter.
4 laps in a rubber suit for him.
And the salads and water as prescribed by Sarah
13 Mar 2010, 23:04 pm
I’m far more concerned about Cheetah’s next week than I am about Bulls further down the line. Bulls are big softies. Cheetahs are going to come at us with everything they got.
Stormers came up against a disspirited Canes side today on the slide. Different kettle of fish the Cheetahs will be. We going to have to be extremely primed up.
2 best scrummies in the comp up against each other too Duvenhage vs Pretorius going to be a real humdinger.
13 Mar 2010, 23:04 pm
You’ve got to laugh at all those expert comments knocking Jaque Fourie last week. He’s got to be the best defensive centre in the world. He even says so himself.
The Stormers have the best points differnce so far in the tournament at plus 89 and better than the Bulls 60.
They have only let through 4 tries compared to Bulls 15.
Defence is going to win this Super 14. But Bulls and Stormers travel well.
Can’t wait for that match.
13 Mar 2010, 23:07 pm
@Robzim: roflmao
13 Mar 2010, 23:09 pm
and I would be very weary about getting all **** a hoop if I’m Stormers coaches and players. We got easy beat teams so far except for Brumbies who we should have put away if some our early breaks came off.
Suddenly it started to click tonight with Duvenhage and Grant running the show.
Its a great team. Thank the good Lord above nobody went and got chicken feet and played De Waal instead of Grant when all these doubters were calling for his head.
13 Mar 2010, 23:09 pm
@BokiNZ: fair enough, nice to know youve tarred us all with the same brush… your prerogative I guess..
like I imagine Saffas would be in SA with a kiwi working with them and NZ had a good weekend… or am I mistaken there? serious question?
13 Mar 2010, 23:09 pm
@I am a stormer: are you on the Stormers blog?
13 Mar 2010, 23:09 pm
@Robzim: We spoke yesterday about you preferring an intelligent thinking 7. I don’t know whether you watched the Bulls game? What did you think of our own version of “le blonde guilotine?” Talk about workrate, talk about support play, talk about defence, talk about keeping the pressure on the opponents, but most of all talk about vision and keeping the continuity going with brilliant vision, anticipation and good hands, and I have not seen that kind of quality play by any other 7- not even Juan Smith, because he lacks the finesse. I believe this guy is the real deal and the future for the Boks in his position if PDivvy wants to play that type of game. And to think Potties has just come back from injury and is able to deliver this kind of form.
13 Mar 2010, 23:10 pm
@SpringbokSarah: I wasn’t refering to your age. I believe Ricky is close to his best. He’s a terrier around defensive ruck and his tempo went up considerably from what I can remember the last time I saw him!
13 Mar 2010, 23:11 pm
@skopskiet: we can beat them
13 Mar 2010, 23:12 pm
@BokiNZ: no doubt he’s getting better… he’s just not there yet… and what with Dewaldt putting in massive performances over the past 2 weeks… well more options of Allister
13 Mar 2010, 23:15 pm
@skopskiet:
The Cheetahs are not nearly in the class of the Stormers (there are not more than 3-4 in their team who will even get a contract at the Stormers) but they will step up as it is a local derby.
The Stormers should still win however- Rassie knows how to play against them.
I expect them to spoil and frustrate the Stormers – but it won’t be enough.
13 Mar 2010, 23:18 pm
Grant and Duvenhage ran the show brilliantly tonight just like I always knew they had it in them to ask the big questions round the advantage line. And how you like the big monster Fiji takes 4 guys to even get half a handle on the guy. Move over Jonah Lomu there’s a new gentle giant in town and he ain’t taking no prisoners seems like this year.
13 Mar 2010, 23:21 pm
@catleya:
Pottie was great – could be the future bok captain.
Personally I would like Luke Watson to be the next bok captain, but, as u know, there are many complications and issues.
Pottie is my second choice – great and intelligent all round player.
13 Mar 2010, 23:22 pm
@I am a stormer: My only concern for the Stormers is if Jaque Fourie gets injured. Who will then manage that backline? Their S14 could hinge on that.
Points difference won’t win the S14, neither will defence. It is quite simply the team that scores the most points plus 4 tries for a bonus point in every match, and then you have to win your semi and the final.
The Bulls have learnt this little secret. The four try bonus point plus at least an 8 point winning margin is the ideal. Anything less is not good enough and anything more doesn’t earn you any more points.
But congratulations. Your team did very well today.
13 Mar 2010, 23:26 pm
@poppa69: Well, I can’t say. Haven’t been unfortunate enough to work with a Kiwi in the motherland. Maybe, but I’ll tell you this though…SARUGBY and the Boks went thru deep, deep waters and taking their supporters with them! Do I take it for granted that we’ll win our games in this 3N’s. No, maybe just our homegames! That is non-negotiable but in the end I’m just happy if we win. How we win, I couldn’t give a rat’s arse, as long as we win! So, if it taught me and I guess us as Bok-supporters, one thing is to never take a win for granted. Kiwi teams are expected to win. No matter where they play. Ahh…let me just tell you this one to see what you make of it! The other day, one of the braver ones actually decided to face the music, last week with just the Crusaders winning. You know how it goes… one thing into another and he reckons…”in the end it all comes down to size of the population. NZ and the AB’s have been punching above their weight for yrs!!!
What!
I’m listening…can’t wait!
13 Mar 2010, 23:27 pm
Well done to the Bulls and Stormers. Bulls need to work on their defence big time, but hey, 50X4 – who can complain. I was not so sure about the Stormers untill this game. If they can keep this up, they’ll be dificult to beat. So SA 1 and 2! Keep it their boys!
13 Mar 2010, 23:31 pm
@catleya: we have Frikkie and Morgs
13 Mar 2010, 23:32 pm
@Robzim:
Robbo, in view of the performances and the # of tries scored in the last two weeks(4 & 5) are you prepared to now revisit the issue of Grant for fly-half?
13 Mar 2010, 23:33 pm
@Robzim: I concur with you on Luke. He is a great 6 with great skills and leadership, but I don’t quite know whether he is on par with Potties on the vision stakes, and we all know he will experience huge problems when it comes to acceptance from certain quarters. I’m just so glad Potties had a chance to showcase what I’ve seen in him all along- I hazard he has created a few new believers.
13 Mar 2010, 23:34 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Frikkie is very underrated.
Another brilliant buy by Rassie (the saviour of Cape rugby)
13 Mar 2010, 23:36 pm
@Robzim: please don’t start… it’s late…
@Robzim: Why yes he is! Best thing they could have done
13 Mar 2010, 23:37 pm
@catleya: I take your point. Got to make it through to the semis first. At this stage, don’t want to think about injuries especially on the away leg.
But on average, 41 log points over the last 5 years can be enough to make to semis.
But the tries are going to come soon and in abundance.
Brian Habana now knows every blade of grass on the Newlands pitch.
13 Mar 2010, 23:39 pm
Since Erasmus’ arrival this is the first real extended period of about 7/8 or so consecutive games that Grant has had at F-H since 2008 and now he is being allowed to play his own game and not someone else’s game, as when Rassie in the S14 season of 2008 tried to convert him to a De Waal type player with instructions to kick for position and distance.
13 Mar 2010, 23:41 pm
@SpringbokSarah:
Not quite the real McCoy, either of them, which is why Rassie has rope Jaque in. Must say, I would rather move Juan de Jongh to 13 in that case, but then it just shifts the problem. Moving Grant isn’t the answer, because then you just move it again. And in any case, it would just be a stopgap solution.
13 Mar 2010, 23:41 pm
@ET:
Hi,
Yes, I will give him a chance
He was good today – I cannot deny it – de Jongh also distributed much better than last week.
Things are looking good – we have a relatively easy tour – if the guys can stay injury free we could be in with a shot!
13 Mar 2010, 23:45 pm
@catleya: they can keep it together, Frikkie was awesome in the CC last year
13 Mar 2010, 23:47 pm
@Robzim:
This game today was the first Stormer I are have seen live and in real time this season. I have been severely punished by having to see 4 of the 5 Sharks games and they played extremely poorly and lost them all. Here in the States we only see 3 S14 games per week and I have been forced to watch the Sharks(X 4), Lions, Cheetahs and Bulls and of those only the Bulls won the games I was forced to watch or see nothing.
13 Mar 2010, 23:49 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Hey Sarah you better get to bed otherwise Sher is going to hunt you roflmao
13 Mar 2010, 23:49 pm
@Karen: roflmao! Sher is a confused soul
13 Mar 2010, 23:53 pm
@Robzim:
Their defence has been the hallmark of their game this S14 and they have essentially suffocated the opposition into making many uncharacteristic mistakes whilst themselves being able to score of many of these opposition errors.
If they can similarly suffocate the Bulls then they stand an excellent chance of beating them this year.
Also saw the Bulls game live today so for me it was a good day of attacking rugby.
13 Mar 2010, 23:54 pm
@Springboksarah: Peter Grant has got to be the most underrated Flyhalf in the country. Morne Steyn is king – he’s no. 1. But looking at Ruan Pienaar as a FH. What is Peter de Villiers thinking.
Not much gets past Grant or De Jongh in that channel.
13 Mar 2010, 23:58 pm
@SpringbokSarah: Lol I told her and gill to stop calling each other names hahaha and be civilised – they are going to need a miracle like the Canes are going to need one against the Bulls on Saturday
13 Mar 2010, 23:59 pm
@I am a stormer: Even as little as 36 points usually sees teams through.
What has happened at the Bulls is that Pieter Rossouw is busy unlocking our backline, bringing in a style of expansive play that probably makes most Bulls purists of yesteryear turn over in their graves.
During this introductory phase you are bound to spill the ball a couple of times in the match and if you are unlucky it ends up as a score against you. But there comes a time when practicing against the tackle bags is no longer good enough, and you have to do it ‘live.’
So they tend to use the plays they have on pat up front to get ahead and build a buffer before trying the more difficult stuff, or taking their foot off the gas, and have the ability to react if the opponents score, just to squeeze enough to keep that two try differential intact.
Last year they tried to take the Landers on at the latters strength which is up front, and got burnt. This year we have opted to speed things up and make the game loose, and it worked for us.
14 Mar 2010, 00:02 am
@Karen: bwa ha ha ha ha! What she say? I stopped looking
@I am a stormer: It’s like you know me!
14 Mar 2010, 00:04 am
@ET:
Yip, the Bulls seem to be the new “running” team of SA rugby.
It is all a bit confusing, maybe it is Pieter Rossouw’s influence or maybe it is a strategy only to be used against overseas teams not used to play at high altitude?
The Bulls/ Stormers game at Newlands in 2 months time will probably have a huge influence on who plays whom and where in the semi’s.
In the meantime, I will enjoy the win of today.
How are things going with the soccer team that you and Soda seem to be the only supporters of?
14 Mar 2010, 00:05 am
omw Karen somebody asked me if I was a Stormers cheerleader! I felt so offended
14 Mar 2010, 00:07 am
@catleya: I just love it when you have a former Stormer teaching the Bulle how to play rugby!!
14 Mar 2010, 00:07 am
@SpringbokSarah: Hahahaha say yes and sell your autograph for huges amounts of money
Gill is Gill and will never change and the other one is the same lol
14 Mar 2010, 00:07 am
@SpringbokSarah:
Who is Sher.
I only know of a a Cher. She used to be married to Sonny and made a lot of money in the music and movie business.
14 Mar 2010, 00:07 am
@Robzim:
@SpringbokSarah:
He comes from us so I know his game and though he is underrated by most, he is a far sight from Jaque, but you’re right, he would be your best option if Jaque is injured.
That’s it- to bed with me. It’s been a long day of rugby.
14 Mar 2010, 00:09 am
@Robzim: Hahaha unfortunately not that Sher
14 Mar 2010, 00:09 am
@I am a stormer: Yep, and he is brilliant. I bet there are some red faces down there for allowing him to fly the coup.
14 Mar 2010, 00:10 am
the bulls still look a better side when they pump the opposition up front for 30 minutes before moving wide.
finding the blend of when to use your backs and when to truck it up has always been the Holy Grail of modern day rugby.
14 Mar 2010, 00:11 am
@Karen: roflmao! lol ja cos I totally look like the Vodababes
14 Mar 2010, 00:11 am
@Karen:
I thought so.
That one was a bit before the time of our SpringbokSarah
14 Mar 2010, 00:12 am
@SpringbokSarah: Well you could use the money to help fund our marketing strategy
14 Mar 2010, 00:13 am
@Robzim: Lol also true because she was cannot remember the “We are the Stormers” song from 1999 (sorry Sarah
14 Mar 2010, 00:13 am
@Robzim: lol not quite
@catleya: cheers
14 Mar 2010, 00:15 am
@Karen: what marketing strategy?
@Robzim: no kidding! ABBA and all that nonsense
14 Mar 2010, 00:15 am
@SpringbokSarah: Hahaha Sarah maybe the Stormers can use Sher as a tackle bag this week
14 Mar 2010, 00:16 am
@Karen: lol no prob
14 Mar 2010, 00:17 am
@SpringbokSarah: Geez never knew you were blonde
You will be working your *** off this week wrt the song and other things – no time for playing this week
14 Mar 2010, 00:18 am
@Karen: what am I playing?
14 Mar 2010, 00:19 am
@ Brigadier van Zyl: Where’ve you been all day? Over stayed your welcome at Loftus?
14 Mar 2010, 00:20 am
@Robzim:
Agree with you it is all damn confusing and it definitely has all to do with Slap Roussouw as the other 2 senior coaches are both forward orientated okes.
That team of ours (Soda and I) is given me some grey hairs presently and lost today to a good Southampton team. As long as they can hold on to 2nd they will be promoted. The Eater week-end will as usual decide who goes up and down, so i am just hanging on.
How do you like my punishment of mostly, by far, Shark rugby games?
BTW, don’t sell our Paradise short by saying, as you once recently did ,that ” you think it is Paradise”. IT IS PARADISE. Be aware I always silently read your posts despite being very busy.
OH! as far as “kreefing goes, Kommetjie corner is defintely the place. One Christmas Eve a friend and I pulled out 24 of size with ring nets in that kelp and traded some just undefsized one for quarts of beer at that camping site at that time.Even then we were only allowed a specific # per permit so we left after dark and with some hidden under our sailor caps to get them out of the reserve. I promise it only happened that cheating way once,knowing your concern for conservation.
14 Mar 2010, 00:21 am
nope,had to go and work after the bulls game. Pretty kak game actually.
14 Mar 2010, 00:21 am
@SpringbokSarah: mmm there is Flo, Peter, Joe, Schalk and a few others that I could mention
No playing at the rugby field this week
14 Mar 2010, 00:23 am
@Karen: roflmao! Not Schalk but you got my top 3 spot on… lol playing at the rugby field, marketing… more or less the same thing for me
14 Mar 2010, 00:25 am
@SpringbokSarah: Shame poor Schalk will be sad
I am out of here – a good win for our team
14 Mar 2010, 00:36 am
@Karen: Cheers Karen
14 Mar 2010, 00:38 am
@ET:
Even although I do not know much about them I hope your team hold out and make it – for your and Sodas sake!
I am not the biggest soccer fan in the world but still enjoy the occasional game – as far as British soccer is concerned I support Liverpool – from the days of Kevin Keegan.
World cup? Lets hope and pray – one world class player (Steven Pienaar) might not be enough, but maybe we can pull of a surprise and make the second round.
Re the Rock Lobster – ag, u know we have all “stolen” a few in our time – as long as we do not do it for commercial gain it is not so bad.
Do u plan to stay in the USA for good?
14 Mar 2010, 00:45 am
@ET:
The Sharks suck – sorry for the punishment.
Imo it is time for John to call it quits and to give the new guys a chance.
He should have retired after the 2009 success and is currently only destroying his legacy.
It’s quite sad, he seems to be unfit and overweight and I do not know why he is soldering on.
Money maybe?
14 Mar 2010, 00:50 am
@Robzim:
Robbo, definitelly not.
We have no such intentions of staying here permanently even though it will be very easy for my wife and I to get green cards because of the shortage of expertise in our respective fields. The demand in both our fields is so great that I can, if I choose, work for 3 seprate bosses but will then be dead on my feet and have no time to enjoy that money.
Our children do not want to leave S.A and esp. Cape Town and as long as you sell C.T. to the outside world you will nostalgically remind me of the huge sacrifice I am making by working here.
We still own our house about not more than 2 miles from the Newlands stadia and close to Red X hospital.
14 Mar 2010, 00:57 am
That team of ours(Soda & I) we will never be able to ditch because it has such a phenonmenal history. And the only reason they are so low(after being so high and mighty) is because one big crook(skelm is a better word) cheated them, not so long ago, of close to 100million pounds through very poor business deals.. So top class players like Rio Ferdinand and others all had to be sold.
Hey! I know it is late for you and the sun is still in the heavens for me so feel free to tell me to shut up as tomorow is another day.
14 Mar 2010, 01:01 am
@ET:
Great stuff man, This place is still the best.
I also have work and family connections in Australia – it’s a great place but imo it is still much better here in CT, so I will stay here.
We must make a plan to meet and have a red wine or 2 when u come to CT again.
Nice chatting – see u later – it’s past bed time here.
14 Mar 2010, 01:03 am
@Robzim:
Smit has played extremely poorly this year and I gave him a scathing report in that first game in the Antipodes. There was not one decent scrum with him that day. And he was poor again yesterday.
He defintely needs to do the honourable thing. He is part of the precarious state the Sharks find themselves in.
I cannot understand the hold that he and others have on PdV.
Actually, I do, and it is not too disimilar to your notion.
14 Mar 2010, 01:08 am
@Robzim: @Robzim:
@363
Hey! I know all that and the fact that your trip there took you off here for some time.I tell you I do read you and thus read you like a book.
It was really great comparing notes again in a very quiet and always civil atmosphere.
go well.
14 Mar 2010, 01:28 am
Rodney and Ma’a up to there usual off the ball dirt I see.
Good one Stormers, hope we can win away from home as well!
14 Mar 2010, 01:28 am
@Robzim:
333
More than likely, it designed to give the rookies backs plenty minutes of 1st class running rugby to build up their confidence, on the road they will be more structured.
3 of the Bulls back line are Boks first choice, it is no co incidence
14 Mar 2010, 02:15 am
Oh no! What’s happening to the Caaaaaanes? Two losses in a row, ‘aye?
I told you, the Chiefs and the ‘Canes’ are pretenders. Some tried to deny me, I told you though. I told you.
The Stormers made them look one dimensional, Jaque Fourie showed why he’s the best outside center in the world.
Oh my word, my two teams roll on.
14 Mar 2010, 09:33 am
@I am a stormer: 335 Yes and a former Bull teaching the Stormers how to scrum!
14 Mar 2010, 09:38 am
@catleya: He was at the PUK institute of rugby in 2005 -2008 so that does not make him a former bull
14 Mar 2010, 10:06 am
Gee…I always seem to come in too late after all that’s already been said on this forum. But I think that too little has been mentioned about the technical side of the Stormers game. It is undeniable that the Cane’s weakness is at their flyhalf. If they don’t shange him after this game they can call it quits for the S14.
Their forwards didn’t do to badly in the scrums, but then again, they have some AB’s in there.
I think the Stormers coaching team must have read what I said in the forum last week, coz Jaque Fourie really came to the party. Maybe he wasn’t really match fit last week.
Peter Grant was also solid and his distribution was flawless. He even attemted to break the defensive line a few times, which is usually his weakness. Luckily he had Fourie to run at the defence to create some space.
Dewaldt Duvenage only made one mistake in the game, and gee, did he look disappointed. The game changed when he left the field and Ricky came on. Why don’t they just kick Januarie off the field?
The Stormers defence seems to be their main strength this year, but they’re were rushing it a bit in the second half, especially Bryan Habana. In fact, the second Canes try came from gaps created due to rush defense. Be patient boys.
Joe Piersen was once again in top notch form. This guy can just do no wrong.
It was the first weekend I was glad they had a right-wing that can’t kick a ball. Otherwise they would’ve given away too much possession, which was the one area the Stormers stood out.
And lastly, the Stormers’ star winger was back this weekend…no, I’m not talking about Sireli. Welcome back Tian. lol!
14 Mar 2010, 10:18 am
sorry for some of the typo’s in my above comment.
14 Mar 2010, 13:22 pm
@Karen: He played for the Bulls Karen- ask him personally if you don’t believe me!
14 Mar 2010, 13:37 pm
@catleya: Ok I checked he played in the late 90′s but they were called Northern Transvaal and not the Bulls.
14 Mar 2010, 13:38 pm
@boeta_A: Joe was great,just needs to work on the place kicking imo…
14 Mar 2010, 13:39 pm
@catleya: And the Bulls have a Stormer coaching their back-line – welcome to professional rugby
14 Mar 2010, 15:05 pm
@Karen: Quite! Catch my posts 331 and 340.
And for what it’s worth I wasn’t aware you guys distinguish between Northern Tvl and the Bulls. The sting of your sarcasm feels the same, but my blood stays blue.
14 Mar 2010, 15:18 pm
@catleya: Lol sorry I won’t keep quiet because you say so. Northern Transvaal was a CC team
and at one stage the Stormers were called the Western Stormers – lots have changed. As for your blood being blue – geez then you need to see a doctor because all human beings blood is suppose to be red
And you know what you need to get a sense of humour which you are seriously lacking
14 Mar 2010, 15:19 pm
Catleya – sorry misread your post as quiet and not quite – my apologies for that error but then you would probably not accept it
14 Mar 2010, 15:20 pm
But if you actually meant quiet then I retract my apology
14 Mar 2010, 15:38 pm
@Karen: Apology accepted, so I guess I have a sense of humor after all. I’m just sitting here wondering what I did wrong to arouse your chagrin. Must’ve been something terrible!
14 Mar 2010, 15:46 pm
@catleya: Hey I am definitely not upset with you
That is why I apologised when I saw I misread your post. Peace
And the part about the blood – hey that is tongue in the cheek (some Stormers supporters do have a sense of humour) and kudo’s to you for having a sense of humour
Have a great afternoon and I will see you on the blog sometime soon (just go have your blood checked out at the doctor – very worried about the colour of it
14 Mar 2010, 15:51 pm
@Karen: Where do you scratch out these oopbek Smileys? Or are they just reserved for Stormers supporters this morning?
14 Mar 2010, 15:55 pm
@catleya: Would you rather prefer an evil smiley ???
14 Mar 2010, 15:57 pm
to have blue blood must mean you are an alien from outa space, ok no wonder those obese nose ringed rhinocerous looking behemoths look somewhat sub human. Maybe David Icke has a point, maybe all blue blooded blou Bulls supporters are in fact extra terrestrial beings not from this planet. With cold blooded blue liquid coursing through their veins.
14 Mar 2010, 16:05 pm
@skopskiet: Or maybe the connotations should be a little more figuratively, which would tend to imply “royalty”. Use it, don’t use it. Come to think of it, in that case we probably deserve a little mor erespect than is being shown us here!
14 Mar 2010, 16:24 pm
@Karen: Hell no, the evil bit comes through strong enough in the words Anything more would just be an overkill, don’t you think?
14 Mar 2010, 17:55 pm
well done Stormers excellent game!!
Have your say
