Jack is back

Keo.co.za brings you the latest Super 14 news from New Zealand.

Jack is back

Chris Jack is likely to be selected on the bench when the Crusaders host the Lions on Saturday.

The All Blacks lock last played for the Crusaders 34 months ago. He spent two seasons at English club Saracens from 2007 and also had a short stint with Western Province before returning to New Zealand last year.

He is now expected to feature in the second half this weekend, as Brad Thorn has picked up an injury against the Chiefs last Saturday. This should see Isaac Ross and Sam Whitelock start in the second row and Jack selected amongst the reserves.

‘Brad Thorn has a sore sternum and we will probably look to give him a breather for the next match and Chris Jack is fit and available and is likely to be on the bench,’ head coach Todd Blackadder told stuff.co.nz.

McAlister’s injury woes continue

Luke McAlister’s has been ruled out of the Blues’ clash with the Brumbies on Friday.

McAlister suffered a broken nose on Monday as he clashed heads with a team-mate during a contact training session.

The All Blacks’ utility-back has already missed the Blues’ first four Super 14 games because of a calf injury. He was set to make his first appearance for the Blues this weekend as he recovered from his injury last week and impressed in a North Harbour club game last Saturday.
