Mealamu: Blues’ first centurion
Keven Mealamu will make his 100th appearance for the Blues when they host the Brumbies on Friday.
The All Blacks hooker has already made a 100 Super Rugby appearances as he played 11 games for the Chiefs in 2002. But Mealamu will celebrate his centenary Blues match in front of his home crowd in Auckland.
He has beaten former wing Doug Howlett (97) and Lions pivot Carlos Spencer (96) to become the first Blues player to reach the 100-game mark.
‘It’s huge. The Blues are special to him … he’s bred here,’ head coach Pat Lam told stuff.co.nz. ‘He’s the leader because he leads by example and I think this year he has really grown his captaincy and his leadership of the team.
‘I’m sure the boys will want to have a big one for him and more importantly I think Kevy will want to have a big one on this game.’
