Stegmann back
16 Mar 2010
Deon Stegmann returns as the only change to the Bulls side to face the Hurricanes on Friday.
The openside flanker sat out the past two matches with Derick Kuun starting due to rotation, but coach Frans Ludeke has reverted back to Stegmann. Prop Bees Roux, who sat out last week due a gash on the head, is expected to return to the bench.
‘We will have a look how Bees shapes up during the scrumming session,’ said Ludeke. ‘If he is OK, he will take his place. If not, Rossouw will slot in again.’
Meanwhile, reserve scrumhalf Heini Adams will miss the Bulls’ overseas tour due a rib injury incurred in Vodacom Cup action against the Lions last weekend. He is out for four weeks as the Bulls leave for Perth on Tuesday.
Bulls – Zane Kirchner; Gerhard van der Heever, Stephan Dippenaar, Wynand Olivier, Francois Hougaard; Morné Steyn, Fourie du Preez; Pierre Spies, Dewald Potgieter, Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (c), Danie Rossouw, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha, Gurthrö Steenkamp.
Subs: Bandise Maku, Bees Roux/Rossouw de Klerk, Flip van der Merwe, Derick Kuün, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Jaco van der Westhuyzen, Pedrie Wannenburg.

Good team, think we’ll see a better one from the Bulls this weekend
16 Mar 2010, 16:09 pm
Like this team.
16 Mar 2010, 16:10 pm
the defence will be better too…
16 Mar 2010, 16:15 pm
Glad Pedrie is not starting, although is it necessary to have both him and Kuun on the bench?
16 Mar 2010, 16:23 pm
@Taciturn: Agree. The one change obviously would be for Pretorius in for Dippies, although Dippies is making name big time at the mo.
Possible starting 15 if we reach the semis?
However, I would like to know where all those okes are that hated on me when I said Gary Botha would make our front row and therefore our scrum more steady? I mentioned this before the first game and I was beat down by people saying that he wasn’t a ‘scrumming’ hooker. So please speak up.

Kuun should go join the lions, he’ll fit in nicely there
16 Mar 2010, 16:29 pm
@st.a.t.w: What is the point of such a comment, or are you trying to stir?
16 Mar 2010, 16:31 pm
@st.a.t.w: No thanks. Kuun is a good player.
16 Mar 2010, 16:32 pm
@WOLFMAN21:
Maybe he’s saying they’re desparate for a quality hooker?
16 Mar 2010, 16:33 pm
@st.a.t.w:
i could care less what they do with him at least he’ll be starting every week then again the current lions flankers are betterr then him
16 Mar 2010, 16:34 pm
@Agile ***-Tyrant: Based on the opinions he has expressed towards the Bulls, and the fact that Kuun is now a flanker again, suggests that this may not be the case.
16 Mar 2010, 16:37 pm
@st.a.t.w:
Don’t know, only make a couple of tackles and you are the standout player in that circus!
16 Mar 2010, 16:37 pm
@WOLFMAN21:
I’m pulling STATWs leg.
16 Mar 2010, 16:40 pm
@Agile ***-Tyrant:
You are right, they are desperately looking for a quality hooker. They are also on the lookout for decent locks, loose forwards, a scrummie, flyhalve, centres and wings. They are happy with the current full back’s form.
16 Mar 2010, 16:40 pm
@Wez…I used to be a Lion:
imagine if he scores a couple tries
16 Mar 2010, 16:41 pm
@Agile ***-Tyrant: Fair enough!
It must be terrible for the Lions though in all seriousness. I can’t see many players wanting to go there in the future, and would imagine players like Jano Vermaak will be trying to leave as soon as possible.
It must be awkward for a guy like Burton Francis.
16 Mar 2010, 16:43 pm
@WOLFMAN21: No Wolfman, it’s been terrible for the last 10 years!
That’s why they can only buy has-beens.
16 Mar 2010, 16:46 pm
@Wez…I used to be a Lion: This is true, but I think after this season has gone so terribly wrong after the great hope at the begining of the season, the Lions are in an even worse position than in the past.
16 Mar 2010, 16:50 pm
@Wez…I used to be a Lion:
Jaaaaaa, ou Rosie posie.
ER=Emaciated Roadkill.:lol:
16 Mar 2010, 16:52 pm
.:lol: =
16 Mar 2010, 16:52 pm
@WOLFMAN21: Definitely, and that’s why they are losing loyal supporters. Of my immedidate friends, 4 of us moved to other teams. 2 to the Bulls and 2 to the Stormers.
Could they afford to loose the couple thousand supporters they had left?
I think not!
16 Mar 2010, 16:54 pm
@WOLFMAN21:
Who wants to play in JHB in anyway, terrible rugby atmosphere and crime-ridden, the only good thing is their junior imports (coming in for Uni for eg.), and they get going as soon as they can
16 Mar 2010, 16:56 pm
@st.a.t.w: You are a moron. Kuun has been a servent of Bulls rugby for a long time now. They are giving him the game time that he wants. Just stfu up please.
@Wez…I used to be a Lion: Hahaha, true that.
16 Mar 2010, 16:56 pm
@Wez…I used to be a Lion: Too be honest, they should just disband the Lions and give the franchise to the Eastern Cape Dragons. At least they will have fresh ideas and won’t be held back by the burdens of the past, a weak administration and a lack of quality players wanting to join the team.

We’re getting to that time when we start to talk players right into the Bok squad….. Here’s my two cents then; Stegman is Brossouw’s readily replacement, and continuity insurance for PDivvie….
16 Mar 2010, 17:11 pm
@Pot Blou Gevaar:
Exectly, hoe kan mense dit nie sien nie? Just look at the stats.
16 Mar 2010, 17:12 pm
@Pot Blou Gevaar:
His ruck attendace is head and shoulders above ANYONE elses.
And very strong tackles and assists.
16 Mar 2010, 17:16 pm
@Agile ***-Tyrant: Cannot agree more, absolute monster on the deck Steggers is….. And given the Bulls application at the tackle point, there’s life yet for specialist scavengers. All about application under new interpretations
16 Mar 2010, 17:24 pm
@Pot Blou Gevaar:
Missed only 3 tackles or something like that in the season so far- primary responibility!
Front rowers are assigned to gang up on 2nd+ phase, and Stegmann comes in for a quickie
BTW, Stegmann/Brussow’s shortness helps them to get to their feet quicker.
One thing is for sure, Stegmann focusing ALOT more on defense than Brussow was…we have Spies remember, Spies carries something like 10X more than closest contender!!!
16 Mar 2010, 17:28 pm
@Agile ***-Tyrant:
And BTW with these stats, if you lay your hands on an attacker, and you see how the situation pans out- you might get “missed” tackle and no assist etc.

Kuun is a very good football player. He needs Wannenburg to leave the Bulls asap. Very underrated player is Kuun. Wannenburg on the other hand is over the wall and should leave the bulls…he can’t give them what he gave them 4 or 5 years ago. Gary Botha is looking good at 2. Bulls scrum is looking good.
16 Mar 2010, 19:08 pm
I hope stegmannplays most of the games at flank as he is a better flanker than kuun and i am sure if it were not for brussouw`s form i think he would be a bok already as i think our loose trio spies,potgetier,and stegmann is the best in SA rugby.I wholly agree with BLUEBLOOD that gary botha has made a big difference to the bulls scrum,i have already stated in previous posts his return has already made helped the two props steenkamp and kruger scrum better especialy kruger and our lineouts have really improved,and all credit to botha.Keep up the good work bulls.
16 Mar 2010, 19:09 pm
@Ned:
Ja that Alan Solomons said something like he can’t believe Kuun is not a bok yet etc. And Stegmann is even better. I’mnot sure about P3, give him till the 3rd stretch, then we’ll see.
17 Mar 2010, 01:20 am
Finally they’re putting on the best loose trio.
17 Mar 2010, 05:24 am
on that lineup it looks like P3 is down as a back substitute. is he a winger or midfield back?
17 Mar 2010, 07:24 am
@Tomsta: As far as I understand he is covering 13, 14 and 15. They like his turn of pace and attacking passing game – believe he cold be a real asset.
Have your say
