Bangalore roll Rajasthan

The Royal Challengers Bangalore decimated the Rajasthan Royals in the third 10-wicket win in IPL history.

A Praveen Kumar hat-trick and three wickets for Anil Kumble reduced the Royals to 92 in front of an elated Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd.

Rajasthan’s weakened lineup was unable to counter-act Bangalore’s short-pitched bowling plan. The hosts bowled stump-to-stump for the entire innings and conceded only two boundaries in the first five overs.

The run drought of the first five overs resulted in Rajasthan wickets. Jacques Kallis struck with his first delivery, eventually finishing with 2-20, and from then on it was a downhill slide. Kumar and Kumble wrapped up the Rajasthan innings after prolonged pressure.

It should have been worse for the Royals, as Yousef Pathan, the only man to push past 20, was dropped twice before being run out for 26.

In direct contrast Kallis and Manish Pandey held onto their wickets and scored at more than a run a ball to reach 44* and 42* respectively. Pandey pursued the bowlers with intent and Kallis followed suit, elegantly achieving the equilibrium between stability and aggression which eluded Rajasthan for 19.5 overs.

The highlight of the shortened innings was Kallis’s destruction of his South African team-mate Morne Morkel, taking him for 20 in his opening over. The two wrapped up the match in just 10.4 overs.

Bangalore, who move to second on the IPL table, were dominant in all respects. Their only concern ahead of their next clash at home with the Chennai Super Kings may be the lack of time in the middle for Eoin Morgan, Rahul Dravid and Mark Boucher.

Rajasthan Royals 92 (19.5 overs)
Yousaf Pathan 26, Damien Martyn 19
Bangalore 93-0 (10.4 overs)
Jacques Kallis 44*, Manish Pandey 42*, Anil Kumble 3-9
Bangalore won by 10 wickets
