Poms edge through to Super 8s
4 May 2010
England only managed 120-8 off their 20 overs against Ireland but still advanced to the next round as rain stopped play in Providence.
Halfway through their innings, the Poms were struggling at 49-4 as the Irish bowlers took control. However, in-form batsman Eoin Morgan steered England to a modest total after scoring 45 off 37 balls.
Rain delayed play again and Ireland were set a target of 61 in nine overs. They reached 14-1 by the middle of the fourth over when rain started to pour again and ended the match.
Despite the match being abandoned, England finish second above Ireland in their group because of a superior net run-rate.
England 120-8 (20 overs)
Eoin Morgan 45, Trent Johnston 4-14.
Ireland 14-1 (3.3 overs)
Match abandoned

What – no outcry about the unfairness of it all? Typical Poms.
