Aussies pummel Sri Lanka
9 May 2010
A convincing bowling display saw Australia cruise to a 81-run victory against Sri Lanka in Bridgetown on Sunday.
Sri Lanka had a strong start to the match as Suraj Randiv and Angelo Mathews ripped through Australia’s top order as the latter slumped to 40-5 in the fifth over. However, Cameron White (85* off 49 balls) and Michael Hussey 39* of 26 balls) steered Australia to a competitive total of 168-5 off their 20 overs.
Australia’s bowling attack then continued the onslaught as Sri Lanka struggled during the run chase. Tillakaratne Dilshan top-scored with 20 as the Sri Lankans ended on a disappointing 87 all-out, handing the Australians a victory that should secure their place in the play-offs.
Australia 168-5 (20 overs)
Cameron White 85*, Michael Hussey 39*, Suraj Randiv 20-3.
Sri Lanka 87 (16.2 overs)
Tillakaratne Dilshan 20, L Chandimal 19, Mitchell Johnson 3-15.
