Clermont finally ditch chokers tag

Former Bok centre Marius Joubert tasted Top 14 success as Clermont beat Perpignan 19-6 in the final at Stade de France.

It was the first time that Clermont had won France’s domestic decider in 11 attempts.

Right wing Napolioni Nalaga scored Clermont’s only try, while scrumhalf Morgan Parra kicked a conversion and three penalties, and fullback Anthony Floch slotted a drop goal.

For Perpignan, fullback Jerome Porical kicked two penalties, but he missed four other attempts at goal that proved costly.

Meanwhile, the Neath-Swansea Ospreys beat Leinster 17-12 in the Celtic League final.

First-half tries from right wing Tommy Bowe and Man of the Match fullback Lee Byrne gave the Welsh side a 14-3 lead at the break. Flyhalf Dan Biggar kicked both conversions and added a penalty in the second half.

For the Irish club, No 10 Jonathan Sexton kicked four penalties.

    Great to see Clermont winning finally, they not only lost all previous 10 finals, they have lost last 4 years in a row! :)

    I especially liked planetrugby preview which was the only time I have seen them giving not prediction of an outcome but their wish for a sepcific result. “Prediction: Less of a prediction this year than a wish. We’re supposed to be objective, but we’ll be cheering for Clermont to win by any means necessary.” That was nice.

    @Simon The drop goal was by fullback Floch, not by Parra.

    @Nils. They only lost 3 in a row. This was their 4th consecutive final, which they won.

    So happy for Marius and the boys. They’ve worked really hard the last few years. Perpignan and Clermont is my 2 favorite teams in the France. I actually predicted a Perpignan win but very happy that Clermont pulled it through.
    Can’t help to think that Perpignan had some issues before the game.
    Some last minute changes to the team with Philip Burger falling out of the match 22 and Gavin Hume also not 100% fit after breaking his toe. But they still played him.
