Wales drop Jones

Stephen Jones is struggling with a hand injury and will sit on the bench for Wales’ second Test against the All Blacks this Saturday.

The pivot picked up the injury in the 42-9 first Test defeat against the All Blacks last weekend and will be replaced by Dan Biggar in the No 10 jersey. If Jones fails a late fitness test, head coach Warren Gatland will opt for a five forward/two backs split on the bench as scrumhalf Mike Phillips will provide centre cover.

Outside centre Andrew Bishop is sidelined with a broken hand which sees Jonathan Davies promoted to the run-on side. There are also three changes to the bench as wing Will Harries, scrumhalf Richie Rees and prop Craig Mitchell feature amongst the reserves for the clash in Hamilton.

Wales – 15 Lee Byrne, 14 Leigh Halfpenny, 13 Jonathan Davies, 12 Jamie Roberts, 11 Tom Prydie, 10 Dan Biggar, 9 Mike Phillips, 8 Ryan Jones (c), 7 Gavin Thomas, 6 Jonathan Thomas, 5 Alun Wyn Jones, 4 Bradley Davies, 3 Adam Jones, 2 Matthew Rees, 1 Paul James.
Subs: 16 Huw Bennett, 17 Craig Mitchell, 18 Deiniol Jones, 19 Rob McCusker, 20 Richard Rees, 21 Stephen Jones, 22 Will Harries.

Couldn’t agree more, gotta love the Welsh though, they always talk themselves up before a tour, for no apparent reason and then fall into despair when reality kicks in.

Only to be forgotten completely until the next tour, the following year, where it happens all over again.

Surely if you are injured you are not dropped?? You become unavailable for selection?
