Rebels risk losing Cipriani

Media reports suggest that England flyhalf Danny Cipriani is disillusioned with rugby and is seeking to cancel his contract with the Melbourne Rebels.

The new-formed Super 15 franchise announced Cipriani as their marquee signing a couple of months ago. However, England’s Daily Mail newspaper reports that a spilt from model girlfriend Kelly Brooke has left the 22-year-old heartbroken and this has affected his drive and desire to continue in rugby.

The paper continues to say that Cipriani has been approached by English Premier League football club Fulham about a trial on 7 July. West Ham United are also said to be interested in Cipriani, who had trials with Queens Park Rangers and Reading as a teenager.

But Rebels coach Rod Macqueen told the Mail: ‘Danny’s a little broken-hearted after breaking up with his girlfriend but, as far as I know, he’s not trying to get out of his contract. A few of us have spoken to him and the situation with the contract is cool.’
