Roux new CEO of Saru

Stellenbosch University’s Jurie Roux was appointed as Saru’s CEO on Friday.

Roux, the senior director of finances and asset management at Stellenbosch University, is currently in the final processes of contract negotiations with his new employers. The General Council accepted the recommendation of Roux from an independent interview panel.

According to a statement by Saru, Roux, 39, has considerable experience of rugby administration and is currently vice-president of the Western Province Rugby Union, a director of the board of Western Province Rugby (Pty) Ltd, chairman of the Stellenbosch University Rugby Football Club and chairman of the Varsity Cup (Pty) Ltd. He is a former Maties fullback.

Roux beat 84 applicants for the job. He will take up the position on 1 September.

‘I regard this role as the pinnacle for any professional involved in South African sport. It has major challenges but also many stimulating opportunities,’ said Roux.

Oh and JC I am going to pull a Tackler on a Friday afternoon.

There were 84 applicants in total, so Roux beat 83 to the job… ;)

I think the previous oke was Jonathan Stone but he has been gone for a while now I believe.

He was the dark horse…interesting. The 2 front runners for the job was Marinos and Barend van Graan. Glad Barend is staying with the Bulls. He has really built up the franchise to one of the best in the rugby playing world.

Being an old matie,I can tell you that the university is run very well,no issues with admin, finance etc so if he does the job as well as stellenbosch runs ,he should be good

@Transformation(Transformation)-15: Don’t know the guy to be honest. Just because you are a PA to the boss doesn’t mean you have what it takes to become the boss.

I think they appointed a good guy, there are bigger problems that this right now.

@Johnny7(Johnny7)-12: Are you saying the coach at the time totally transformed the whloe franchise? Nee man, van Graan was in beheer toe Heyneke as coach appoint is en hy is steeds in beheer nou.

WHen a company growths from strenght to strenght yougive credit to the man in charge 1st, then the people who report to him.

I look at what is missing in the credentials list: higher education? background?? anc membership??? is he a white???
could be just another ‘ganef’ from the Gravy Train?

    So, you preferred Johan Prinsloo?
I reckon his credentials look OK. Who cares about his politics or colour, or even his higher education record? I’ve seen too many incompetents with degrees.

    @Hondo(Hondo)-18:
Apparently he has 5 degrees. I’ve no idea what they are though.

    @Transformation(Transformation)-15: The answer’s no.

But these seem a bit like sinecure positions anyway. Accountant’s jobs at best. Bean counting. Does the CEO make any key operational decisions, like who coaches the Boks? What does Oregan Hoskins do that this bloke doesn’t, and vice versa?

Lots of people with cool titles, getting fat wages for doing little, if anything.

@TheTackler(TheTackler)-21: This bloke helps SA rugby make more money than Stew Toe, which, by the way seems not so difficult as Stew Toe made zilch, nada, nothing last year

  • 23.charo: Reply to this comment

the title ceo is a bit of a misnomer – chief executive officer carries no liabilities nor accountability in a public company.

a bit like a non-exec director or general manager.

managing directors and financial directors are the guys who carry the can – the rest are just salaried workers.

ask me – the difference is huge

when he said the oil spill was a “drop in the ocean” – apparently it was just that.

after all the media and senate/congress hype, the actual amount of oil and coastal damage is far less than the goddam us overreaction.

and tony still has a cushy job at bp.

cheap bleach for the hair (about a month old so an inch of auburn shows at the roots).
    frazzled edges.
too much make-up and the stench of cheap perfume over-applied.

I checked the dude on Sport 24-Rugby, he looks a pedigree, played for Maries at FB 20 years ago.
But it must be a catch here, it goes against the affirmative action grains, one clue might be the Sasol pulling out of SA Rugby, could be that sponsors and TV Networks are alarmed at embezzling of funds at SARU.
Look, it all connected: Hoskins, PdV, Prinsloo, Gideon Sam, Kumpale, the lot, but when the cashier is empty,,,,

    sorry to be so blunt.

if you want to follow an sa team and keep your class there is only one franchise for you…

    SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

…. otherwise you risk your standing and reputation.

even those sad stormers supporters are seen as nothing more than……….GROUPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 49.Eish: Reply to this comment

Jurie Roux – well done, please stabilise SARU, oh sorry no one has managed to do that in over 100 years. how fff’d up are we, always in turmoil, the extreme highs and lows are entertaining at least… a coach who’s clearly not up to it and and only keeping his position because he’s not white – before you call me racist – and not based on results – any other administrator in any other country who makes such an arse of himself as ambassador of South Africa on such a regular basis would definitely have been sacked yet here we are entertaining him. why?

    This is an insult

How can the job go to a white person?

This is more prove that SA rugby is run by a bunch of racist ********.

Give the job to Cheeky Watson and make Luke the bok captain.

  • 52.DeeB: Reply to this comment

Why cant the job go to a white person?

Now SA rugby is racist cause the job went to a white person, isnt it racist to say the job cant go to a white person?

    Isnt Cheeky Watson white?

Luke Watson was good enough just to make the Bok squad, why would he ever be good enough to captain them?

Transformation should be scrapped from all levels of rugby in South Africa, including administration, management and coaching. It’s unnecessary and destructive.
