Roux new CEO of Saru
30 Jul 2010
Stellenbosch University’s Jurie Roux was appointed as Saru’s CEO on Friday.
Roux, the senior director of finances and asset management at Stellenbosch University, is currently in the final processes of contract negotiations with his new employers. The General Council accepted the recommendation of Roux from an independent interview panel.
According to a statement by Saru, Roux, 39, has considerable experience of rugby administration and is currently vice-president of the Western Province Rugby Union, a director of the board of Western Province Rugby (Pty) Ltd, chairman of the Stellenbosch University Rugby Football Club and chairman of the Varsity Cup (Pty) Ltd. He is a former Maties fullback.
Roux beat 84 applicants for the job. He will take up the position on 1 September.
‘I regard this role as the pinnacle for any professional involved in South African sport. It has major challenges but also many stimulating opportunities,’ said Roux.

His CV and experience looks impressive.

Barely any older than Matfield and Smit.
30 Jul 2010, 13:51 pm
Oh and JC I am going to pull a Tackler on a Friday afternoon.
There were 84 applicants in total, so Roux beat 83 to the job…

Who is he replacing?
30 Jul 2010, 14:10 pm
@YoMama(YoMama)-4: Louis Luyt
30 Jul 2010, 14:10 pm
@YoMama(YoMama)-4: isn’t he replacing Marinos?
30 Jul 2010, 14:12 pm
@stormersboy(stormersboy)-6: He’s the MD.
30 Jul 2010, 14:15 pm
@YoMama(YoMama)-4:
I think the previous oke was Jonathan Stone but he has been gone for a while now I believe.
30 Jul 2010, 14:22 pm
He was the dark horse…interesting. The 2 front runners for the job was Marinos and Barend van Graan. Glad Barend is staying with the Bulls. He has really built up the franchise to one of the best in the rugby playing world.
30 Jul 2010, 14:53 pm
Seems like money is not the only thing involved here,director of the board of WP rugby…mmmhhh,makes one think
30 Jul 2010, 15:07 pm
Being an old matie,I can tell you that the university is run very well,no issues with admin,finance etc so if he does the job as well as stellenbosch runs ,he should be good
30 Jul 2010, 15:45 pm
A good appointment it would seem at the moment..
@Boer in beton(Boer in beton)-9: Moet nou nie laat ons nou nie vir mekaar begin lieg hierso nie – Dinge het eers verander vir die beter met heyneke.
@toe-jam(toe-jam)-10: Doesn’t it always?
30 Jul 2010, 15:56 pm
why does saru need a deputy CEO in Mveleli Ncula?
30 Jul 2010, 16:07 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-13: Cos he is blek.
30 Jul 2010, 16:16 pm
@goyougoodthing2(goyougoodthing2)-14: but after close to 10 yrs on the job, he can’t step up and be CEO?
30 Jul 2010, 16:20 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-15: Don’t know the guy to be honest. Just because you are a PA to the boss doesn’t mean you have what it takes to become the boss.
I think they appointed a good guy, there are bigger problems that this right now.
30 Jul 2010, 18:14 pm
@Johnny7(Johnny7)-12: Are you saying the coach at the time totally transformed the whloe franchise? Nee man, van Graan was in beheer toe Heyneke as coach appoint is en hy is steeds in beheer nou.
WHen a company growths from strenght to strenght yougive credit to the man in charge 1st, then the people who report to him.
30 Jul 2010, 18:30 pm
I look at what is missing in the credentials list: higher education? background?? anc membership??? is he a white???
could be just another ‘ganef’ from the Gravy Train?
30 Jul 2010, 18:45 pm
@Hondo(Hondo)-18:
So, you preferred Johan Prinsloo?
I reckon his credentials look OK. Who cares about his politics or colour, or even his higher education record? I’ve seen too many incompetents with degrees.
30 Jul 2010, 19:09 pm
@Hondo(Hondo)-18:
Apparently he has 5 degrees. I’ve no idea what they are though.
30 Jul 2010, 22:00 pm
@Transformation(Transformation)-15: The answer’s no.
But these seem a bit like sinecure positions anyway. Accountant’s jobs at best. Bean counting. Does the CEO make any key operational decisions, like who coaches the Boks? What does Oregan Hoskins do that this bloke doesn’t, and vice versa?
Lots of people with cool titles, getting fat wages for doing little, if anything.
30 Jul 2010, 22:15 pm
@TheTackler(TheTackler)-21: This bloke helps SA rugby make more money than Stew Toe, which, by the way seems not so difficult as Stew Toe made zilch, nada, nothing last year
30 Jul 2010, 22:28 pm
the title ceo is a bit of a misnomer – chief executive officer carries no liabilities nor accountability in a public company.
a bit like a non-exec director or general manager.
managing directors and financial directors are the guys who carry the can – the rest are just salaried workers.
ask me – the difference is huge
30 Jul 2010, 22:29 pm
@JL1(JL1)-22:
don’t you mean “camel toe”?
30 Jul 2010, 22:34 pm

30 Jul 2010, 22:43 pm
@carol(carol)-26: He is young, but old blokes have loads of hair, only thing, in all the wrong places
30 Jul 2010, 22:43 pm
jl1
Not if it belongs to your sister..,
30 Jul 2010, 22:44 pm
@gunther(gunther)-25:
hey …. been checking on your working girls in greenpoint lately?
i hear the usa press is softening their attitude towards hayward.
when he said the oil spill was a “drop in the ocean” – apparently it was just that.
after all the media and senate/congress hype, the actual amount of oil and coastal damage is far less than the goddam us overreaction.
and tony still has a cushy job at bp.
makes obama look like a bit of a toss?
30 Jul 2010, 22:44 pm
@JL1(JL1)-27
on’t you mean NO camel toe is nice to look at
30 Jul 2010, 22:46 pm

30 Jul 2010, 22:46 pm
@JL1(JL1)-28: No worries for you there yet!!
Nose and ear trimming at least 20 years away for you!
30 Jul 2010, 22:47 pm
@gunther(gunther)-29: You have a way with words!
Hows the Pilates going, do you have a special mat?
30 Jul 2010, 22:48 pm
@carol(carol)-26:
hi carol
having hair doesn’t always indicate age.
look at my profile on superbru – an old bugger with lots of hair!
of course ol’ jl can’t say the same – what a pity!!!!
30 Jul 2010, 22:50 pm
@charo(charo)-35: But is that really you?
(Have to go and look now)!!
30 Jul 2010, 22:50 pm
@gunther(gunther)-29: Eeeeugh!,that is gross
30 Jul 2010, 22:51 pm
@carol(carol)-31: OK seeing that you are here, yes dear, whatever you say dear
30 Jul 2010, 22:52 pm
@gunther(gunther)-32:
yes but taking the russian joint venture.
in tackler’s words….
easy peasy…..
(as long as you keep your partners happy)
30 Jul 2010, 22:54 pm
@charo(charo)-35: You know whats best about superbru!! I am beating you by 10 points!! Heheheheh
Lot’s of hair btw!!!
30 Jul 2010, 23:02 pm
@carol(carol)-40:
whatever turns you on carol
long way to go.
disappointed you are a bulls supporter – especially since your profile is distinctly ……SHARKS!!!!!!
see that even nils has adopted the best known franchise in the world……………..SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
30 Jul 2010, 23:08 pm
@charo(charo)-41: Now tell me what in my profile makes me look like a Sharks Fan!!
My blood is blue!!
30 Jul 2010, 23:09 pm
@JL1(JL1)-38: “Dear”
30 Jul 2010, 23:20 pm
@carol(carol)-42:
why, the dark top, the shades, the blonde hair.
all typically sharks babe..
beach, sun, sand …..
hardly pretoria profile.
must admit …
haven’t checked your profile for some time now.
could be more blue bulls lately
cheap bleach for the hair (about a month old so an inch of auburn shows at the roots).
frazzled edges.
too much make-up and the stench of cheap perfume over-applied.
could go on but you get my drift?
30 Jul 2010, 23:34 pm
@charo(charo)-44: Look, I am trying to be a real Bulls Supporter….attempting to ‘Bulk Up’..develop a taste for brandy and coke….
Did not realise you need bad hair too…that may be a step too far!
Bad perfume gives me a headache!
30 Jul 2010, 23:43 pm
@David(David)-19:
I checked the dude on Sport 24-Rugby, he looks a pedigree, played for Maries at FB 20 years ago.
But it must be a catch here, it goes against the affirmative action grains, one clue might be the Sasol pulling out of SA Rugby, could be that sponsors and TV Networks are alarmed at embezzling of funds at SARU.
Look, it all connected: Hoskins, PdV, Prinsloo, Gideon Sam, Kumpale, the lot, but when the cashier is empty,,,,
30 Jul 2010, 23:44 pm
@carol(carol)-45:
the whole “blue bulls” image will slowly “dawn” on you.
to a cotswolds lady it is a bit like becoming a “geordie girl” all of a sudden.
sorry to be so blunt.
if you want to follow an sa team and keep your class there is only one franchise for you…
SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
…. otherwise you risk your standing and reputation.
even those sad stormers supporters are seen as nothing more than……….GROUPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
see ya – early golf tomorrow
31 Jul 2010, 02:48 am
Very happy Jake White’s back stabber, Harold Verster did not get the job.
31 Jul 2010, 03:45 am
Jurie Roux – well done, please stabilise SARU, oh sorry no one has managed to do that in over 100 years. how fff’d up are we, always in turmoil, the extreme highs and lows are entertaining at least… a coach who’s clearly not up to it and and only keeping his position because he’s not white – before you call me racist – and not based on results – any other administrator in any other country who makes such an arse of himself as ambassador of South Africa on such a regular basis would definitely have been sacked yet here we are entertaining him. why?
31 Jul 2010, 08:06 am
@PissAnt(PissAnt)-3:
Touche old bean!
31 Jul 2010, 14:05 pm
This is an insult
How can the job go to a white person?
This is more prove that SA rugby is run by a bunch of racist ********.
Give the job to Cheeky Watson and make Luke the bok captain.
1 Aug 2010, 14:42 pm
Why cant the job go to a white person?
Now SA rugby is racist cause the job went to a white person,isnt it racist to say the job cant go to a white person?
Isnt Cheeky Watson white?
Luke Watson was good enough just to make the Bok squad,why would he ever be good enough to captain them?
1 Aug 2010, 15:03 pm
I think it was a joke, I think you took the bait.
3 Aug 2010, 08:09 am
Transformation should be scrapped from all levels of rugby in South Africa, including administration, management and coaching. It’s unnecessary and destructive.
3 Aug 2010, 08:12 am
Same old!
3 Aug 2010, 08:17 am
@sglazer(sglazer)-54: Merit appointments only!!!!!
