Bok to make another move

The Springbok emblem will appear on the left sleeve of the jersey for the World Cup in New Zealand.

This follows the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee’s (Sascoc) rejection of the Springbok Women’s jersey for the current Women’s World Cup that had the Bok emblem above the Protea emblem on the right (over the heart), with the IRB’s World Cup logo on the left, where the Bok usually is.

The Bok was last year moved from the left to the right of the jersey in order to accomodate the Protea, which is the official emblem of all South African national sides.

Ridiculous. The Wallabies have the same situation as us with the Wallaby on the one side and the national crest on the other but you can guarantee they won’t move it to the shoulder.

This is just another pathetic attempt to wipe the Bok away forever.

‘uck ‘em i say , we’ll wear our heart on our sleeves .

quite a simple solution here…..for RWC the organisers (RWC) should have their logo on the sleeve…that way the springbok logo can stay where it is.

I am so happy I left South Afica 15 years ago…slowly but surely everything is being taken away and one day I will be able to justify supporting another team…

I wish I was a memeber of Sascoc.

I want to make my livelihood by sitting around deciding on which patch of cloth between 10 inches an emblem would be woven- since it is a matter of national security, you know.

I have always considered the Springbok to be our national symbol for all sports as it used to be. I have reluctantly accepted the Protea for other sports, but rugby got the dispensation from Madiba himself to use the Springbok. If anything must be moved to the sleeve, let it be the Protea.
I want to say that I have no disrespect for the Protea, but the South African rugby team has always been known as the Springboks, and should be viewed as such.Once again politics has reared its ugly head in sports.

    so what?

we just lucky its even there imo….

it has been seen as a symbol of seperation by millions of saffas?

FFS why even make it an issue?

The springbok has a white belly, brown body and black stripe.

very representative in my opinion :)

    @grant10(grant10)-9:

    still? after so many years?

Who has it seperated in the last 10 years for instance?

Shame – its just a little buck – poor thing

    The Incredible Disappearing Emblem!

Why not have it in the centre, just below the neckline?

what people tend to forget is that mandela managed to convince, a bunch of anc heads who had already decided to scrap the bok emblem, to give the animal a reprieve in the interest of ‘reconciliation’ in the country. He paraded @ the ’95 world cup final, waved and shook hands – like the brilliant politician he was.

Yet when the same mandela mandated that sarfu become transparent to the same supposed ‘reconciled’ nation, louis luyt frog marched the then president of the country to a court of law and accused him of being a liar and of interfering in a ‘private entity’!

I personally don’t care whether the animal
is on the bum or the heart, i just want to watch rugby finish & klaar.

@Transformation(Transformation)-12: Louis Luyt was right in suing Mandela for interference. Good on Big Louis! When will such an outstanding rugby administrator be in charge of SARU again?

The ******** can do what they want, will allways be the Springboks. If moving it helps them cling to their branches at night then good luck to them. I don’t give a ****, springboks they will always be

You wish Mr Luyt to come lurching back into SA rugby like some grotesque undead zombie who refuses to remain six feet under after having a dozen wooden stakes thrust into his inhuman heart?

He is the chap who as SA rugby president at the official function after the 1995 world cup final presented Welsh referee Derek Bevan with a £1000 gold watch, calling him ‘the most wonderful referee in the world’.

Bevan refereed the semi against France which SA won 19-15 after he controversially denied the French a last-minute try which would have knocked the Bokke out of the tournament.

Remember — with Mr Luyt back it may be extremely difficult for the Bokke to claim ref conspiracies against them any more, it may be other teams arguing that. :)

I think it is better if Louis remains consigned to the history books. The man is an embarrasment.

@ossewa(ossewa)-6: South Africa is a better place because of your leaving. We so glad not to have ilk amongst our wonderfull nation. We have our flaws and our Malemas, but one thing we wont do is run like the spineless coward you are. You know why is that? Its because we know that we have more good than bad, and we know no one will fix this land but ourselves. Please stay whereva you are and go around boasting your roots everytime we achieve as a nation just like we did this past June. Please never come back. Proudly South African.

Move the springbok emblem to the butt and **** it eventually, its a symbol of racism.

  • 21.goyougoodthing2: Reply to this comment

As long as the clowns at SARU keep Div and his kind in the mix I’d actually prefer if we could get rid of the Bok emblem all together.

These chumps are not worthy of the emblem, let it rest in peace.

who gives a **** where it is!!! they will always be known as the springboks!! no matter where they put the symbol, the all blacks are the all blacks and not the silver ferns, so if they want to put it on the socks!! go ahead, its our rugby we need to concerntrate on not our outfits, soon we will blaming our outfits for our shoddy performances!! come on bokke, win some games for us!! bring back the pride!!

Yeah, why don’t we exterminate the springbok as well. This site’s going the same way as our rugby, with most of the quality posters long gone.

I have been thinking why not have a large springbok head on the whole front of the jersey, and have all the other little badges where they want them.

Be honest, this is an embarrassment and a slow way of breaking everything of value down, mis management and poor performance off and on the field, nothing to be proud of
